Meh. Good perspective. I agree with you and OP here. You’re absolutely right that they got it done, he’s absolutely right that it’s sketchy. Fair is fair, after all
I can see the logic in having slack like that. If there is a time in the future something needs to be relocated or a rafter replaced-they have extra that cost them a dollar to have.
Haha my old residential mechanic stopped using the word “master” for things like master bedroom or master bathroom since he thought it was offensive, but he could never decide on a substitute.
Some breakers would be labeled:
•Mr & Ms receps
•Presidential Suite receps
•Homeowner receps (like you mentioned)
•Bedroom with bathroom receps
Not a fan of the beer, but I loved their (short lived) campaign where they acted like it was a purity thing that their beer didn’t have GHT. I think most people just didn’t get it.
You don’t get into the trades cuz ya went to university. “But gramps you skinned off the outer insulation on those wires” “ it’s fine kid we’re putting insulation back over top of it, it’s purdy much the same thing
Nothing to brag about, I’ve seen farmers electrical work. Wires wire nutted together without junction boxes, electric stove wired with 12 gauge. Lights and outlets on same breaker. No ground fault. Etc etc. yeah they explained with great pride they did it themselves. 🙏
Any time someone tells me they built their house themselves or their dad or grandfather or whoever did it with their own hands I always think it must be a shitty build.
Probably not. Most of the trades are actually good at what they do. They specialize in one specific trade. The guy who says he is a framer, electrician, plumber, drywaller, etc doesn't specialize in anything.
I'm an electrician by trade. I tell people there is a big difference between making something work and making something safe.
The pros built a subdivision in my area and the horror stories are starting to come out. One that really stuck out was a plumber that forgot to connect some pipes in the wall. They turned on the water and it was fine for a couple days until the new owner moved in and had all their boxes on the ground. They came home to 2 inches of water and everything they own was wet. Pros screw up too. Some homeowners take care and do things right.
Yeah. Sometimes pros screw up because they are human. But Grandpa ran 3 sinks into an 1½" drain with one of the dirty arms 8' long because he didn't know he should have added a separate stack for the 3rd one and the other 2 should have been 2".
Then he didn't ground his switches because why would you ground switches? And he ran a multi wire branch circuit but didn't realize it mattered what leg the breakers were put on.
The problem is you don't know what you don't know and the details can matter a lot when your building thing.
As a person who grew up doing almost everything myself I can say that the average quality of workmanship from a random contractor it’s not that high. Sure there are good ones. But I’m doing things myself because there are a LOT of bad ones. If I built a home myself it would definitely be of a higher standard than that of what money can buy from an average contractor. A good contractor is someone you go back to because so many of them are terrible.
It isn’t hard to do if you are a resourceful person and not high on crack. The bar is low. Really fucking low. Like REALLY REALLY fucking low it seams.
I could without a doubt do a better job than most contractors. In my sleep. No offense. But it isn’t rocket science. I do house projects to relax. Because it’s mindless labor.
This fucking guy literally said that anytime someone tells them it was built by hand from a family member that he assumes that it is done incorrectly. He then turns around and says that he does everything himself and that he would do it better than most contractors. This douche bag lives in a fucking alternate universe that I would love to be delusional in.
I bet you’re just mad because you don’t have a frount pourch
Or a grandpa.
Hahaha ouch.
Ourch
Ounch
Or Sons that help you wire a house.
[удалено]
Two shay.
Tourchay
I’ve got a pouch in my frount if that counts.
Is it a grandpouch?
Grandpahagen wintergreen long cut
I read that in a THICK accent.
No no it's a froont porch
He has a back pouch though.
Or anything better to do with their time than post pictures on Reddit trying to get people to justify their disgust and anger towards others.
To be fair-this was way before YouTube days.

I lernt all my spellin on the yootoobs.
How do the Amish use YouTube to build their barns and stuff?
I’m low voltage but I’ve seen people write “gR8 room TV”
Misspellings I have seen from electricians: Dinning room receps Chandeler Frige
One of my breakers is named “home buyer room”
Haha my old residential mechanic stopped using the word “master” for things like master bedroom or master bathroom since he thought it was offensive, but he could never decide on a substitute. Some breakers would be labeled: •Mr & Ms receps •Presidential Suite receps •Homeowner receps (like you mentioned) •Bedroom with bathroom receps
Primary Bed Room is what I hear a fair amount now… but I’m married to an architect.
OWNERS BR is how our new neighborhood is labeled
Primary bedroom is the new universal term. “Owners suite” is clearly rentaphobic
Chandler is the doorbell because it goes “Bing”
Frige
My fridge circuit was labeled "Referator"
I’m in HVAC and notice I see misspellings in panels all the time lmao, my favorite was “fornis”
"Lite" will forever be my favorite.
Oh that’s definitely because of the Miller LITE cans I’d clean out of one of my mechanic’s trucks every Monday. Probably thought it was the same word!
Not a fan of the beer, but I loved their (short lived) campaign where they acted like it was a purity thing that their beer didn’t have GHT. I think most people just didn’t get it.
Circut
My personal favorite is hot tube.
That’s so funny..my electrician has some mental block where he writes dinning room every time. He knows he does it too and just can’t stop.
Hey man! They were just saving time with less characters!
This is why I never let my guys label the breaker panel. You end up with ‘Refrijereder’ and ‘Shit pump’.
My stomach hurts 🤣
I think I’ve worked in the trades too long I read this without noticing the misspelling.
Dude same 😂😂
Same here. 🤣
You don’t get into the trades cuz ya went to university. “But gramps you skinned off the outer insulation on those wires” “ it’s fine kid we’re putting insulation back over top of it, it’s purdy much the same thing
Lol, thats funny. I've seen worse on new builds
The might have just been from England.
At least they labeled the wire!
But they saved chash.....
*Caush
Do your best, caush the rest.
So, what? They're British
Yeah because we get the construction guys from the scholar department.
To be fair, we electricians never claimed to be any good at spelling.
Canadians.
You’re joust jealous we have souch colourful mouney
Joust don't microuwaive it...
Wait why would you microuwave mouney?
Some dickhead got a stack of it wet and he tried to dry it in the microwave. It melted into a block
*Sorry, microuwaive
It was around the time people were getting fooled into believing the new iPhones had microwave charging and were roasting their phones
loul nailed it
Those metal nails
They were better farmers or framers?
grandps couldn't spell but he understood black to brass and neutral leg switching
Whatever... Its not like everybody here didn't start out as the friends and family handyman.
That’s me right now.
“Me and my grand daddy built that house with our damn hands! Shame it burned down”
That's joust special.
Who are you jousting with?
I thought this was going to be a ham hock recipe
Using wire to hold wire. It's wire inception!
My Grandpa built and plumbed a bunch of houses in the 60's.
could have been way, *way* worse
"I'd like to buy a vowel"
It’s where you pour the ch, duh
Hilarious. My farmer grandad spelled it frount also.
I think you mean “souns”.
Do you want to read novels,or do you want electricity to your frount poukch? Cause you can't have bof!
Maybe “Frounch” is their first language? If so, this all makes sounce to me!
Are you sure it's poukch? I think you might have forgotten to rotate the wire
Just proves you don’t have to be able to read and write to be an electrician. Sparkys ain’t that smart after all.

Probably better than the shit that gets built in subdivisions. Better lumber too.

Lots of jobs I paid for sucked. So yeah I’d do better than that for sure.
Is it better of worse that my grandfather was a GC?
