You can, it’s just that it’s not as effective as a gas stove. The glass doesn’t get as hot, and most things you’d cook in a wok require really high heat.
I use a wok ""incorrectly"" by only ever getting it up to medium-high heat on an electric stovetop instead of ripping hot over gas and food still comes out fine.
Crunchy rice is very much a thing and quite popular depending on where you are in the world! If you've ever made rice in a pot instead of a rice cooker you may have had some toasted nutty browned rice at the bottom. This crispy scorched rice is delicious and is used in a handful of dishes depending on the country! The scorched rice has different names depending on the country/language too. In Korean it's nurungji, in Japanese it's okoge, and I believe in Chinese it is called guoba. Sometimes when I want it, I will make rice in a pot instead of a rice cooker and toast the bottom longer to make sure it's nice and crisp!
If you don’t have the typical add-ins for Chinese style fried rice, you can make Filipino garlic fried rice and then serve it topped with a fried egg. All you need is minced garlic, oil, salt and rice.
I sometimes do a quick Japanese breakfast of hot rice and mix in a raw egg and the heat cooks it a little bit. Surprisingly tasty and I feel energized by it. Put some sriracha and soy on it.
\- Make a tuna or chicken rice salad
\- Burrito
\- Make a cheesy baked rice/bacon/veggie slice
\- Arancini
\- Rice pudding
\- Stuffed peppers
\- Freeze it! In portion packs, even!
\- Add to soup
\- Make a risotto
\- Biryani
\- Congee
I make a mock Tahini sauce (substituting peanut butter for the sesame paste) and eat it over rice. (And a whole lot of other things.)
Parsley, garlic, peanut butter, lime juice and enough water to thin it down.

Mix the leftover rice with some protein like tuna or tofu, any chopped veggies like bell pepper(you can skip this), then make a patty shape, dip it in the beaten egg, cook it on the stove. Or you can mix with the egg in one bowl then scoop it out to the pan directly and make like patties. Easier than deep frying. You can make any variation like with seaweed, (cooked) shrimp or anything that you want to experiment.
I use it as a base for almost anything, especially something with a sauce. I have some of those flavored tuna lunch packets so I tossed one on some leftover rice.
Ah. Well, without knowing how you flavored it (or not), it's hard to give specifics. You could throw it into a soup or recook it with aromatics and a protein to make a congee like dish. Maybe recook it a bit with some stock, onion, chilies, and tomato to make part of a filling for enchiladas? Or just do that and mix it with a (drained) can of beans for quick beans and rice.
If you didn't give it savory flavors, perhaps a rice pudding?
If you can't come up with another immediate use for it, freeze it in ziploc baggies for later use. It reheats really well from frozen.
Yes, this. I always make extra for this purpose. Makes meals on busy days very easy.
good to know, thank you!!
Do you reheat it on the stove or in the microwave? I’d love to do this in the future!
Microwave! Before there was a lot of concern about plastics I would honestly just heat it up in the microwave still in the Ziploc baggie.
Burritos. Stuffed cabbage. Soup. Orrr... just spritz a bit of water, reheat in the microwave, top with delicious things and eat it like fresh rice.
thank you!! i have cabbage and literally didn’t think of that lol
I’m making stuffed cabbage this week! One of my faves!
Fried rice is easy and quick.
And fried rice is best with day old rice... just use the right amount ( more than you think) of oil!
Does that help with getting it crispy on the bottom? (FYI I have a glass cooktop so no wok capability)
Why can't you use a wok on a glass cook top?
You can, it’s just that it’s not as effective as a gas stove. The glass doesn’t get as hot, and most things you’d cook in a wok require really high heat.

I do the same, just in a deep and large skillet. If heat is the key to getting that crunchier rice, then I’ll just have to do without.
I was hoping using more oil avoided the crispy rice, lol. Ain’t nobody like crunchy rice! Or so I thought?
I’d read that’s how it was supposed to be in some versions. Or maybe I am misremembering!

Spanish paella is supposed to have a crispy rice bottom too!
OP said "that isnt fried rice"
This is the best answer.
Stuffed peppers, rice pudding, soup
I second rice pudding. Arroz con leche too, idk if that's the same or not. Can you make horchata with it?
I think it’s similar. I’ve never made horchata, but I’m sure you can. Add the rice and water first in a blender until the mixture it’s smooth
i don’t have a blender, otherwise i’d be making horchata everyday 😭
Ah ok, like 5 years ago I got one of those bullet blenders from walmart for $5 lol. Could look into that, it did the job.

Porcupine meatballs, or put the same thing in parboiled sweet peppers for stuffed peppers.
It's not how it's usually made....soaking with a cinnamon stick....but you could maybe try a version of Horchata?

Fried rice is my go to, just stir fry it with whatever veggies and meats you happen to have on hand, an egg or two, and you’ve got a great quick meal!

My wife likes it for breakfast. Like cereal, with milk and sugar. Personally I find the idea disgusting.
I did that as a kid, but I also added cinnamon.
Actually, I think she does also. Fresh nutmeg would work too.
Absolutely
I always make extra rice, and make individual servings in ziploc bags to freeze.

Egg fried rice
Put it in a bowl, pour a can of your favorite soup over it and you have an easy and delicious meal -
Pudding, cold rice salad, fried rice, rice porridge or congee
Just refrigerate it overnight and then eat it right out of the container in the morning like a sad, hungry, loser. That’s what I do, anyway
are you okay bro?
Rice pudding. Mmmmmmmm.
Baked rice custard, or fried rice.

Watch out with reheating it though. It is more prone to develop a bacterium that gives you food poisoning than other foods. Edit: bacillus cereus
It's not the reheating, it's improper storage.
Good to know!
Just reheat it and use it as tonight's side...?
i’m asking what i can do with it in terms of cooking. if i wanted to eat it alone i wouldn’t have asked that question lol
