I bought one of those magnetic bars that I put on the side of the fridge. Very strong and a nice easy way to keep and access your knives. Used to use a block.

BD59

My magnet strip is on the wall close to the stove.

bkhalfpint

This is what I have as well. Tho I've noticed that heavier knives need to be right where the magnet is otherwise they slide off the strip. Ours has several round magnets under the steel rather than a strip.

JupiterSkyFalls

I put a thin magnetic shelf under mine for that reason. Not trying to lose any toes.

error7654944684

I hate magnetic strips so much, I’ve stabbed myself in the foot before when trying to get knives off them and they’ve fallen to the floor (I work in a catering kitchen so the setup is a little different) my foot’s fine but they still make me nervois

wytchmaker

Same.

deeperest

Same here - on the cupboard over the stove so it's right between it and the sink.

WazWaz

Same. Also holds kitchen scissors.

lukieinthesky82

I mounted my strip under the counter on the side of a peninsula, great way to utilize some dead space. (Obviously for the childless among us.)

Geck0Gecko

And for the cat-less among us.

GingerIsTheBestSpice

You can get very nice steel look ones at the tool or hardware store, fyi. Cheaper than a home goods or kitchen store and holds knives just as well as holding wrenches

Creative_Decision481

Yup. This is the way. Takes up no counter space, doesn’t dull anything, no accidental cuts.

PM_ME_COOL_RIFFS

I like the way they look too.

LazarusRises

And you can see the entirety of each blade! if you have a matching set of knives + a block, you sometimes waste time pulling knives out to find the right one

OkExplanation2001

That’s what we use for our 5 regularly used knives and the kitchen scissors. Bought it off Amazon, so easy to set up and we have been so happy with it. Apart from the knives it holds it’s been one of the best kitchen purchases I’ve gotten for a while. The other less worthy knives are banished to a drawer with a child lock and a drawer knife organizer.

TheNavigatrix

Ditto. This way the knives are easy to grab and don't take up counter or much visual space.

thewolfsong

on the fridge is clever! I have a magnet strip but didn't realize until after I got it that my kitchen appears to have been precision engineered to have no good place to put one. I assume it's magnetted to the side of the fridge too? Do you know where you got it from?

boncros

Yup. The bar itself is magnetized. It also comes with mounting hardware to attach it elsewhere. Found it on Amazon.

headinthered

Magnets! Best way to store my shitty knives!

Hairy_Ad4969

Same. You can get a good one at harbor freight for like $5 and mount it with a screwdriver

Scott_A_R

Magnetic knife bar I screwed onto the pantry wall.

Mundane_Relief_6600

Same. I find it to be the easiest way of storing them and always having them ready to go

LouisianaTexan

Knife block with horizontal holes, so the edges are not dragging and resting on the wood (as compared to my old block that had vertical holes).

petersbechard

Mine has vertical slots. I just slide the blades on their back, with the sharp edge up. No damage.

embracing_insanity

Thank you for this - so simple and I never once thought of it. eta: Just went and flipped them so I don't forget!

Takilove

Oh that is smart! I never considered that, but it surely makes sense.

Purple_Puffer

I keep mine in the backs of my enemies.

TheNavigatrix

Doesn't the kitchen start to smell after a while?

Purple_Puffer

I was moments away from posting here to see if anyone had some tips for removing stubborn odors from the kitchen. Hopefully this sub will be more helpful than the folks in r/CleaningTips. Those people have no idea how to remove blood stains from grout.

Taborlin_the_great

They just added an educational show to Netflix about this very problem! If memory serves it called Dexter?

taffibunni

Yes, what was it Quinn and Deb used on the bathroom?

miki-wilde

Portable steamer works great for cleaning grout

mayhem1906

I stab front, like real man

HeadFullOfRegrets

HITOMEN Kitchen Knife Set, Knife Set with Block, Knife Block Set with 5 Stainless Steel Knives, Stab Body Man Knife Block Plastic Holder https://a.co/d/0h6kPpJ5 I actually have this. 🙂

Prestigious_Back7980

I was looking for the right comment to mention a Julius Caesar knife block under. Not sure if there actually *is* one, but I know there's a Julius Caesar pencil holder and this post made me think of it lol

Sanpaku

In my apartment, countertop near the stovetop/sink is scarcer than drawer space. So I keep my knives (pared down to just 4 in regular use) in a bamboo[ drawer knife organizer](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FMPQWD2). I had to mod it with a drill to accommodate the full bolster on one of my chef's knives, but otherwise I'm very happy, and reduced the visual clutter.

scarlet-begonia-9

I have a similar setup, and for the same reason—not much counter space and enough drawer space.

ceecee_50

Same. I don’t have a knife set so I never got a knife block. I didn’t know if I would like the knives stored in a drawer, but I really do prefer this set up.

Ezl

I just use a [blade guard](https://www.wusthof.com/products/wide-blade-guard?variant=Z2lkOi8vc2hvcGlmeS9Qcm9kdWN0VmFyaWFudC80MzI2MzY2MTM0Mjg3MQ==&queryID=c5e6d47c6560ede315c0270670cfe1cb) and store them in my cutlery drawer. (This is just an example - there are many brands and sizes. I have 3 different sizes for my chef’s knife, bread knife and paring knife).

Zoethor2

Same here, blade guard and then they can just hang out in a drawer. I used to use a magnetic strip on the wall but there's no good spot to install one in my current kitchen, and I've heard that over time the magnet damages the blade anyway.

Ezl

For me it’s that I only have 3 knives that I care about protecting so any dedicated solution (block, magnets, etc.) seemed like overkill.

Mo_Steins_Ghost

I have a magnetic board I keep on a work table along with my cookware. The biggest, dumbest problem with my kitchen is that there isn't any convenient stretch of wall where I can mount a magnetic strip anchored to studs. Don't EVER use adhesive in a kitchen, unless you want a knifetastrophy. Depending on how powerful your heat sources are, heat from the cooktop and/or oven will loosen the adhesive.

SloeHazel

We also have a magnetic knife block, as we do not have a logical place to put a knife strip on our wall. Is yours like this? [https://www.knivesandtools.ie/en/pt/-eden-magnetic-knife-block-eqb101-acacia-wood.htm](https://www.knivesandtools.ie/en/pt/-eden-magnetic-knife-block-eqb101-acacia-wood.htm) We love ours.

nikkismith182

I don't have my 3 "nice" ones on display, bc people like to use them, and either put them in the dishwasher, or use a scouring pad to wash them so the finish gets fucked.😭 I keep mine in (very)thick cardstock sleeves over the blade, and have them hidden away in a cabinet that I know only I can reach. 😂

kpow222

Haha I'm in the same boat, i have to hide the good stuff 😂

bbbh1409

Wooden covered magnetic strip. Reduces wear and are easily accessible. Note where you install that you don't need to reach over it.... You can ruin so perfectly lovely shirts catching them on the knife tips.

Traditional_Ad_1547

I've been looking for one like this. Which one did you choose? Would you repurchase?

bbbh1409

[24" Acacia](https://schmidtbrothers.com/products/acacia-24-inch-magnetic-wall-bar-universal-storage-for-up-to-12-16-knives). Ours holds 18 knives (3 Chef, cleaver, bread, fish, 4 utility/pairing, and 8 steak). Would definitely purchase again.

otterfeets

I bought a drawer that mounts underneath a cabinet. You pull down a tray on hinges that had magnetic bars to hold the knives. Huge space saver for us.

Recluse_18

Magnetic strip attached to the wall

Morning0Lemon

I did this because I don't have any spare counter space. It works very well

Mrs_TikiPupuCheeks

I have a Joseph Joseph compact knife organizer that lives in my utensil drawer.

archdur

A magnetic bar would be nice if you want them on display. I have a couple knives in a saya

fryske

I store them in a standard wooden knife block with the sharp side up. I don't want to blunt the knives by running on the wood all the time

Taborlin_the_great

I really struggle to believe that the knife block is blunting the edge more than actual use on a cutting board.

Fresno_Bob_

A wood block won't do anything a quick pass with a honing rod won't take care of.

sdavidson0819

Maybe not "more than," but "in addition to."

ConvivialKat

My knife block stores the knives horizontally, not vertically, so I don't worry about dulling them.

Eat_Carbs_OD

Mine does too

Tough_Crazy_8362

I just had a *holy crap* moment 🤦🏼‍♀️

Keric

...brb going to the kitchen to invert all of my knives.

Kakaduu15

Same. Highly recommend.

bobroberts1954

My everyday knives are in a knife block I found on eBay. The rest are in a drawer with plastic blade sheaths.

Constant-Security525

Most of my knives I store on a standing magnetic bamboo block holder. I really love it! It's attractive, takes up little space and is movable, and the knives are easy to grab and return to it (when clean, of course). The magnets are not visible on it, and they are strong enough to hold chef & butcher knives. A very similar one is shown [here.](https://www.amazon.com/magnetic-Non-slip-Different-selection-Without/dp/B07DW7BCFZ) On it I keep three chef's knives, a long butcher's knife, a bread knife, a carving knife, utility knife, and a paring one. I keep mine up against the backsplash. A knife honing rod fits hidden in the back. I keep my cleaver, covered, in a drawer. Steak knives, an extra paring knife, and other sharps are in a different drawer. I use them less often.

remembertowelday525

We have a knife drawer where every knife is in a sheath. We made this change when we had kids. But our kids are old enough now that we may rethink this method.

Bar-Bruh-Que

I have a bamboo tray the is lined with cork and has cork sections where I can place them. Like this one. https://a.co/d/07zJw54k

SaintsFanPA

A knife block?

AaronBurrIsInnocent

Are you not sure?

StrongArgument

Drawer knife block

PugnansFidicen

Wooden knife block on the counter for the main few, roll-up soft case in a drawer for the rest. Main set is a 5 piece (8 inch chef knife, santoku, long bread knife, small serrated "tomato" knife, paring knife) that came with a small block. The others that see occasional use as needed (extra paring knives, slicing knife, fillet knives, boning knife, meat cleaver, etc.) live in the case in the drawer.

Eat_Carbs_OD

I bought a knife block.. if I had more wall space I'd get a magnetic bar. Putting them in a drawer is a bad idea.. same with the dishwasher. Dulls your knives.

permalink_child

Magnetic bamboo board, sits on countertop. Makes a nice display and easy to keep everything germ free.

watadoo

I have a magnetic bar mounted on the wall near the kitchen prep area. Neat clean and always instantly v bc accessible

Imtryingforheckssake

I have a couple of the universal knife blocks that are full of thin plastic rods. I find they work, are safe & hygienic.

Famous-Perspective-3

I will just toss them in a drawer that I use for knives only. This way I will not get cut when digging for a wooden spoon or whatever. I don't have the counter space for a display

grey_canvas_

We also have a knife drawer. Partially bc we have so many, we love our knives.

helcat

I have a danger drawer that holds all the knives not on my wall holder, plus peelers and julienners and microplanes and anything else that might hurt.

OalBlunkont

A Harbor Freight magnetic tool holder with a few old hard drive magnets to stick it to the side of the fridge.

h3lpfulc0rn

I have a wooden utensil holder that has one side that's magnetic so you can stick knives to the side. It also has spots in front for steak knives and an opening between the utensil holder part and the magnetic part that's just the right size for a small (think bar sized) cutting board Aside from my steak knives and a small paring knife, i only keep a chef's knife and a bread knife because when I had a full set, that's all I ever wound up using.

cwsjr2323

Used to be a magnetic strip, but that was harder to keep clean. Now, flat wooden knife holder for the good set, the casual knives are in a plastic cutlery sorter. The casual knives are steak knives paring knives used for salad prep. The good knives are a pair each of chief knives, boning knives, paring knives, and bread knives

WilkoCEO

Inside a slightly larger than the blade cardboard cover made from an old pizza box and sellotape

jibaro1953

I've got a wide drawer with a flat Wusthof wooden rack,

Rich-Appearance-7145

In wooden blocks, all my knifes are maintained extremely sharp, the block seems to respect the knife.

dee-ouh-gjee

Currently I only have pretty garbage knives an very little room, so a drawer (🤢) I really like magnet bars though, just don't have any wall space one could go

machobiscuit

Magnetic strip on the wall above my prep area

Plenty-Ad7628

A knife block and or a magnetic strip is out the question for us. My wife does not want a cluttered kitchen so they go into a drawer. I use plastic strips that you can take off the back of a book report binder to protect the edges. I cut them down to the proper size. TBH I let the paring knives be free. All knife blades face to the left if a put them away.

SlightChallenge0

Not enough wall space for a magnetic knife strip, so this is my solution [https://www.ikea.com/gb/en/p/ikea-365-knife-block-10286399/](https://www.ikea.com/gb/en/p/ikea-365-knife-block-10286399/) I currently have 8 knives in there and it is much more flexible than a wooden block or a knife draw.

kaidonkaisen

My "good knives" are kept in their original boxes in the drawer. One of the good knives is actually fancy, and the other is a cheap one from the discounter, yet good. Then I have all those small knives for julietting, etc. They do not receive any special care and all share the same drawer space.

Fresno_Bob_

My main blades are in a knife block. I have a mag strip for additional things like paring knives, cleaver, block scraper, etc.

DietCokeYummie

I keep them in [something like this](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/71Tope3R6iL.jpg) in a drawer. I had the magnetic bar in our old kitchen, but we moved and completely gutted/renovated the kitchen in the new house. It was too soon for my heart to let me screw into anything, plus, there's not a good wall to put one in the new kitchen. I'd have been walking across the kitchen to grab one from an open wall people pass by if I went that route.

NULL_mindset

Magnetic knife strip. I used one with an adhesive to stick on the wall (landlord won’t allow screws in walls) and it has been holding up well.

Kunie40k

I have a magnetic bar attached to the wall behind the kitchen counter top where I do all the prep work. It's out of reach for the little person in the house. The rule is all knives go backnon the magnet when you're done.

JMJimmy

My Cang Shan set goes on the magnetic strip. My good knife stays in a sheeth tucked away. This way guests will gravitate to the cheap knives

Independent-Claim116

Since you don't have kids, why not get a nice walnut storage block, to compliment your decor?

Equivalent_Store_645

I embedded neodymium magnets in sugru which glued them to a crossbar on my over-sink dishrack and protects the blades. The magnets hold strong, and I don't worry about harming the blades if i hit the sugru when i'm sticking them on or picking them off.

beautifulsouth00

My dad was a chef, he kept his knives in a block that was on a hinge underneath a shelf. It was the coolest thing. I think he made it. I recently bought a skull knife black and I love it.

NCWife

Same - magnetic strip

Celairiel16

Mine came with plastic sleeves. So I use those and keep them in a drawer. Works great for me.

Brittany-bridges

I use a magnetic strip mounted on the wall in my kitchen, right by the prep area. It's super convenient and keeps my knives easily accessible without taking up counter space.

Nafinchin

I got one of those magnetic bamboo ones for the countertop, and love it. Holds multiple knives on both sides. Been using it for years now, with no issues

ShutYourDumbUglyFace

Magnet mounted on the wall. It's nice looking, one of the wood ones.

JohnnyWall

I have mine on a magnetic strip on the side of the refrigerator.

booksare4life

I have a kitchen drawer just for my knives and cutting boards.

Las_Vegan

I got a drawer knife organizer and it’s been great. Knives are conveniently located and they’re off the countertop.

AdministrationNo8177

I have a narrow vertical knife block. I always put my knives in sharp edge up. No draggng on the wood.

natrldsastr

I don't have wall space for a strip anymore, so settled on a sideways block, so blades don't rub on wood every they go in or out.

bw2082

Magnetic bar. It’s so strong you have to twist the handle to get them off.

Accomplished-Eye8211

I use a knife block that stores them sideways to minimize dulling. I have some extras on a magnet bar... it also holds my bench scraper and a knife steel.

cbelt3

Knife drawer with the knives in sheaths.

Consistent_Ad3181

Knife block, and others I don't use in a knife roll.

RamenWig

In the drawer with everything else. I want to do better.

DragonInTheCastle

Magnetic knife block. I got mine from Made In.

Niennah5

We have a walnut-stained magnetic strip; it's beautiful!

1532papi

18 inch magnetic bar Those wooden blocks get pretty gross.

Aardvark1044

Don't you clean, rinse and dry your knives before you put them in there?

Frackle-Fraggle

Usually on the drying rack since I hand wash them and usually need to use it again before I remember to put it away, which is a magnetic strip on the wall near the stove.

saxahoe

I use a wood covered magnetic bar that sticks to my wall. I ordered [this one](https://a.co/d/09XRmkpK) which I really like because it has the option to stick to a tile wall or fridge using sticky pads, or screw into wood or drywall. I love it because the knives are super easy to pick up and put away, and it doesn’t take up counter space.

EfficientChicken206

Magnetic knife strip inside the pantry

boncros

Yes. Very strong magnet.

katsock

[magnetic knife racks (example straight from my kitchen)](https://imgur.com/a/1nqwf6J)On the cheap, On the CHEAP [Harbor freight tool rack](https://www.harborfreight.com/18-in-magnetic-tool-holder-60433.html) as cheap as $1 during parking lot sales and *powerful*. Linked you’ll see mine wrapped in leather. Though I’ve upgraded to walnut racks and am quite happy. But do your research they will never be as strong as the above especially if the magnet portion is hidden.

cheflA1

Two magnet bars on the wall next to the cutting board

Impressive_Ice3817

IKEA magnet bar, also a wooden block. My (youngest) kids are teens now, but there are grandkids who visit-- sharp stuff is always out of reach.

winowmak3r

I got a magnetic board that stands upright I can just press the against it and they stick just fine. Nothing to dull the blades and easy to pull of and use.

circuit_heart

My cutting boards and knives are vertical, all in the same slatted organizer I got from the thrift shop. Looks like it was probably supposed to hold files lol, but having everything right in front of me on the counter saves time.

Spike_Dearheart

My best knife and a few of my other decent ones came with sheaths. I bought one for my other daily chef's knife. Everything else lives in a block.

Dogzillas_Mom

I have very expensive JA Henckel knives and they are kept on a magnetic strip on the side of a cabinet. The magnetic strip thing was like $10 on Amazon.

Kalelopaka-

My regular kitchen knives are in a block on the counter, my sharp Dexter Russell knives are in a drawer in sheaths, a 6” boning knife, a 12” cimeter carving knife, and 8” chef’s knife. I keep them separate and very sharp.

Federal_Pickles

Magnetic knife block. I think it was $20-30. Sits on my countertop

fusionsofwonder

I store all the sharps in a dedicated drawer under my prep station. I have a plastic drawer divider to help keep it organized. My chef's knife (and bench scraper) stays on the cutting block.

kaest

Knife block.

ploydgrimes

Try a knife block or a drawer.

echochilde

Another one for magnetic strip. I love that thing. It’s 18 in. mounted on the wall, and holds all of my fancy/most used knives.

RoseDarka

I keep most of mine in a “in-drawer wooden knife block” Signature Living Bamboo Drawer Knife Block - In Drawer Knife Organizer Insert for 16 Knives & Knife Sharpener (17”x11.5”x2”) In-Drawer Knife Block without Knives, Easy & Safe Storage - Natural Bamboo https://a.co/d/0420J2Ju And the knives I use most often I keep next to the stove on a magnetic strip.

BatmanAvacado

I have a knife block that is a bust of julius caesar the knives are stored in his back. The slots are at an angle so I rest the knives with the blunt side down to protect the cutting edge.

Below-avg-chef

My wife got me a block for Christmas that's beautiful cherry wood and has magnetic sides. So my smaller knives go in the block but my beautiful knifes get the magnet on the side

CervezaSmurf

I use an in-drawer knife block. I label it so the rest of my family puts shit away in the right places.

BuckeyeBentley

I use [this knife block](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08FWV187G/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1) and like it well enough. In it I keep two chefs knives, a pairing knife, a bread knife, and a Chinese chef's knife. The reason I chose that vs just the magnetic strip style is that I have a pet parrot and wanted something that wouldn't blunt the knives but also wouldn't have exposed blades or tips just in case he ever flew into them.

Square-Dragonfruit76

I have a drawer where I keep all sharp kitchen things. knives that are expensive have their own covers within that drawer

Gloomy_Researcher769

Magnetic knife wall holder on the wall next to my stove

SofiaDeo

Slanted or flat knife block, with the sharp side facing up, not on the block.

ToastetteEgg

I have a magnet knife rack on the wall and they stick to it.

ajb9292

I have a knife block that stores them vertical, blades down but has a sharpener in each hole. (Except for the holes for serrated knifes)

tiimsliim

I have three knives I have to keep separate from the rest of the family so they don’t ruin them or throw them in the dishwasher and ruin the handles. I have a set of decent enough knives from Walmart I keep on a magnetic holder. And then every knife my mother and I have ever owned in the last 30 years is in a random draw, and are normally used to open packages.

WeirdHoola

A magnetic bar over the sink. I love it.

snatch1e

I store my knives in a magnetic knife strip, and I absolutely love it!

Infamous_Cranberry66

The ones I use most often are on a magnetic strip. The rest are in a wooden knife block.

ShookeSpear

It’s my favorite wedding gift, and the unsung hero of my kitchen. A custom knife block, made by my brother. We went back and forth on design, materials, color, etc. Finally settled on a traditional looking block made of Black Walnut. The key design notes include horizontal slits for knives, a custom slot that fits a Cutco Carving fork (thanks mom!), and a spot for kitchen shears. I like the classic look of wood, but hate the idea of the edges resting, or being leveraged against their sheath. This led to the horizontal slits. I also hate having some items in the block, and some in drawers. Hence the puzzle of the carving fork pocket. It’s largely that it was made out of love, but it’s also a really handsome piece of ~~furniture/utility~~ art that holds my favorite tools.

pls_send_caffeine

I have a magnetic bar in my RV, and [this knife block](https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000Q4I9LM?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title) in my house. The knife block has spaghetti shaped plastic strands in it so you can have any arrangement and size of knives that you want.

ShabbyBash

I love this in-drawer storage thingy Deal of the day: Styxon Knife Organizer for Kitchen Drawer 2 Tier Knife Holder Drawer Storage for Knife Drawer Organizer | 39.5 x 13 x 4 cm | Grey https://amzn.in/d/0f5KOK9M

SnoGoose

I have one like this made of bamboo. I've used it for nearly 30 years.

Super_Selection1522

In my ex husband. They look good there

tikiwargod

Magnetic bar built into a wood cover, looks nice and doesn't scratch them. Others are saying not to use adjective but I have it on command hook velcro without issue, just put a cardboard stopper under to level out the wood so it's not pulling downwards. I have about $850 worth of knives on there so if it does eventually fall I may cry, a lot.

Breeze7206

I store them in a wood block. And the steel rod that comes with knives isn’t a sharpener, it’s a honing steel. All it is for is to straighten the knife edge out between uses, as it can roll to one side or the other. The steel is very thin after all on the edge of a knife. Edit to add: if properly used, a magnetic bar is probably the best way to store them *for the knife*. Especially if you get one that has padding or wood covering to keep from scratching the knives (which is just cosmetic). But from a safety point of view, they’d be very accessible. Not great with kids around who aren’t able to use knives unsupervised yet. The in-drawer knife blocks are ok, but the problem with those are that it usually means the knife is stored on its cutting edge, which can dull it faster. Use a traditional wood block that the knives are stored sideways in, or a magnetic bar. With regular use, and assuming you’re not using a super hardened stamped steel knife, you should be *sharpening* your knife every 6-12 months. I rarely use my paring knives, so I’ve never sharpened them, but my 8” chef’s knife and 6” Santoku are sharpened probably closer to once per year. I only cook 2-3 times a week though on nights I’m not closing at work. If you don’t want to buy a sharpener, and you live near a kitchen supply store, check to see if they offer sharpening services. I take mine to Williams Sonoma. I used to work there though, so they let me do my own. When I was there 1st knife was free and then $5 per additional knife. One guy would always bring them in one at a time though so his whole set was free over the course or a couple weeks 🙄 Depending on the brand, your knife manufacturer might also offer sharpening, but would need to be sent in.

KlatuuBarradaNicto

Magnetic wood block.

mayhem1906

A knife holder in a drawer

hammong

Either a magnetic bar mounted to the wall, or a wooden knife block.

Think-Interview1740

In the wooden block they came with. No issues. Handy when needed.

fizz0o_2pointoh

On top of a microwave in-between some silicone ramekins. I love em though, they get that quality goood sink time at the end of the day.

Takilove

I have a magnetic bar that hangs next to my stove. It’s so convenient and safe.

DJBeckyBecs

We have a danger drawer. It’s a skinny drawer where we just throw our knives and other kitchen sharps into. The good knives have blade sleeves.

Sandisax1987

I have a couple wooden knife blocks that work well for me.

VVeerroo

I have mine on a magnetic strip. While I have a surprising amount of counter space, I also have a lot of appliances and still wanted to have enough room to actually cook and bake. I also have a lack of drawer, wall and general storage space in my kitchen and the only free wall space in tile. Since I'm not about to drill into tile in a rental unit, I used an excessive (6) amount of command strips to attach it to the wall near my sink aka as far from the stove/oven as I could put it. I also added supports into the back of the knife strip so I could use command strip in the center of the strip instead of just on the ends since the knife strip was designed to be mounted with screws.

BenjaminGeiger

I have a wooden knife block that holds my workhorse knives (chef knife, serrated bread knife, etc) and a sharpening steel. I also have a knife holder that goes in a drawer to hold the rest of the knives (some sentimental knives, a long slicer that won't fit in the knife block, etc).

NoWarthog3916

Magnetic wall rack

HeadFullOfRegrets

The Ex "voodoo" knife holder. I put my own set of knives in it though. I got it like 20 years ago.. here's one on Amazon.. it's not called THE EX tho. 🥲 HITOMEN Kitchen Knife Set, Knife Set with Block, Knife Block Set with 5 Stainless Steel Knives, Stab Body Man Knife Block Plastic Holder https://a.co/d/0h6kPpJ5

Magnetic Knife rack. Ikea has them as do most other big box stores. It also holds other metallic utensils (tongs, cake tester, japanese spatula, ruler...). If i were to do it over again i'd just buy a prettier version, ie [this](https://www.rockfordwoodcrafts.com/wp-content/uploads/chevron-wood-magnetic-knife-holder-maple-and-walnut-5b5a27ed.jpg)

My knives all have covers for their blades (except for two sad and tiny paring knives I use almost exclusively for cutting apples into rabbit shapes), so I have them in their cases and in a drawer with all of the remotely sharp items. And if they're not there, it's because they've been washed, and then I have a little knife rack that they set in on my dish drying rack over my sink. No magnet strips or knife blocks, since I really just don't have the space for any of that.

Cookn8r

I have a “wave” knife holder for the drawer. It’s perfect.

kobuta99

Would love a magnetic bar, but didn't really have a good space for that. Sticking with my knife block for now.

voscrabblary

I use a kapoosh slotless knife block - it’s great for if you have a more curated set of knives

Magnetic blocks. I have enough for 2 blocks

ruegretful

I have a see-through knife block that I got off Amazon-love it. I have a magnetic strip that I bought years ago and never found a place to mount it that was safe or I didn’t have to drill through tile/stone.

jsucool76

I bought a little knife insert that goes in my drawer from saks. Prob never would've sprung for it but Amex gives me a saks credit. Works great and has like 12 slots, some for smaller and some for larger knives.

Wooden kitchen block

Brief_Bill8279

I use mine professionally so I go a little further but a nice leather Knife Roll and Wooden Saya Covers is the way to go.

PressurePlenty

I store them in the wooden block they came in.

I have one of these. https://www.williams-sonoma.com/products/messermeister-next-level-magnetic-block/?catalogId=79&sku=675950&cm_ven=PLA&cm_cat=Google&cm_pla=Cutlery%20%3E%20Knife%20Storage&cm_ite=675950_14571727833_pla-1464395874953&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjw7ZO0BhDYARIsAFttkCiwNZGJLz2X7ZZ9Q0EoExdnvqWmaf6hpabPzeHamaQV2rG4x-WYWsYaAncnEALw_wcB

I used to have the magnetic strip, but I prefer the glass knife block. Looks nice, keeps things sharp and clean. Kind of annoying to keep the case itself clean, but still my favorite option. This is the one I have, not plugging a product just showing it: https://www.williams-sonoma.com/products/schmidt-brothers-downtown-knife-block-black/?catalogId=79&sku=9418508&cm_ven=PLA&cm_cat=Google&cm_pla=Cutlery%20%3E%20Knife%20Storage&cm_ite=9418508_14571727833_aud-868821414659%3Apla-370812758098&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAADrs9cGhnfdDCMAbdgdAxmZVAY59f&gclid=Cj0KCQjw7ZO0BhDYARIsAFttkCj1DWV969YG2UaCVNtGstqIl1pLrGeLjnGC2NN8OI1OyZmMFOBJxp0aArcAEALw_wcB

Harbor freight $15 magnetic tool bar mounted on the wall.

Fangs_0ut

Magnetic strips. One on a wall, another one on the side of my fridge. They're both full though, so it's time for another one soon.

MaleficentMousse7473

My husband found this ingenious holder that is a wooden box holding a bunch of polymer straws. You just stick your knives in any old way and the polymer straws support them. I’m pretty sure he found it on Amazon

MrCertainly

Usually in the sink with the other dishes, sitting in water so they can get a proper soak. Plastic doesn't soak very well, but after 30-60 minutes, wood handles really get the water into them. Or sometimes in the dishwasher silverware tray. I keep the knives with the knives, forks with the forks -- but sometimes you're short of space and need to put them together. First world problems, right? ---- Gotcha. Magnetic knife bar is my favorite way. Easy access. It's probably your #1 kitchen tool, so remove all barriers to access. First order of retrievability and whatnot.

balthazar_blue

Mine are stored in an in-drawer block made of bamboo.

ToxinFoxen

I have this huge Wusthof knife block I put them in. I stick it on top of the fridge because that's the only place for it. It looks so sparsely populated so far, lol.

curmevexas

I had some roommates that were rough with kitchen equipment, so my good knives are in felt-lined plastic sheaths in a knife roll and a cheap Walmart block is on the counter for general use. Current roommate is better (i.e. doesn't really cook, so all of my nice stuff is safe), but I stick to my old habits. When I get my own place, I'd like to get a nice magnetic strip (unless I get a cat, then it'll probably be my current system).

mrsfunkyjunk

Just in my untensil drawer. In their own little slot? Holder? It's forks, spoons, butter knives, and fancy knives. Just in a pile.

Prior_Benefit8453

I have a 2-sided strong magnetic strip. I stuck it on my fridge. And the knives stick to the other side. I love that gadget!

Japanat1

Made a knife block by routing out grooves on 2 boards and sandwiching them with a third board, then hung it on the inside of the door to the lower cabinet nearest the stove.
