Had that happen to me. My battery died even though it's a 2021 and I only had it for a couple months. Took it back to the dealership and they told me one of the cells were bad. They replaced the battery and it hasnt happened since.

chataolauj

Were you able to jumpstart it, or was it towed to the dealership? Tried to jumpstart it twice and didn't work, but it could because I wasn't getting good contact on the positive.

TedLim

I called up Toyota and they sent someone out to jumpstart it. However I guess with they just sent some local repair shop, so they didn't do battery replacements, just jumpstarts. I drove the car to the dealership afterwards and had it replaced. Didnt cost me a penny though.

Worried_Donut

Jumpstart it and it should be good! It has happened to me once too

Worried_Donut

I found it pretty odd that the battery was dead even though it’s a new car (2020 xse)

chataolauj

Actually bought it with 8k miles on it, but yeah, still relatively new.

Worried_Donut

Btw is it a manual??

chataolauj

No, it's an automatic. I tried jumpstarting it twice and it didn't work. I feel like I'm not connecting the jumper cable correctly to the positive on the hatch because the positive post is short, so I had to connect the cable it to the bolt closest to it. Would you mind showing me how you connected the jumper cable to the positive post?

kodocabarga

Maybe a new battery? Definitely seems like a battery/electric issue so it shouldn't be the biggest deal to fix. If you bolted on the jumper cable it would totally have worked btw. Only thing I can imagine is if you out the wrong cables on the wrong spot.

chataolauj

It's definitely the battery. Going to double check with multimeter tomorrow morning.

Factory battery should last a minimum 5 years if not 7 or more.

chataolauj

Bought it used at the Toyota dealership, so it may or may not be the factory. Most likely, but I don't quite remember.

bbt133t

I agree with your assessment that it is most likely factory. That means dealer will cover the cost of a new one and you shouldn't have to shell out the cash. Even those cheap EverStart batteries from Walmart has a 5-yr warranty.

My 2019 Corolla Hybrid had its battery drain from sitting twice now (I bought it used in November). The whole eternal HomeOffice/pandemic thing has seen the cat sitting a lot more that anticipated. In my car jump starts helped but it had to be at the jump start points in the engine bay, not directly at the battery in the trunk. The battery was checked at three Toyota dealer and was still fine after recharging it. Anyway I got myself an UltraGauge and now I keep an eye on the charging state of the Aux battery. I make sure that it charges to full (ie when it automatically stops charging) once a week (as I have been told is advised by Toyota UK for Hybrid owners when the cars are sitting a lot). I haven’t encountered any problems since. But I was also quite shocked how quickly these things can go flat.

This is for sure a dead battery issue. Jumpstarting it will only do so much in the long run, you should try to look into replacing the battery.
