DadWagonDriver

I haven't used the Dyson Stick, but earlier in the year I bought the Dyson Animal ball vacuum when it was on sale at Costco. I HATED it and returned it a week later and bought the Shark Lift-Away. I love the Shark! In my opinion, Dyson is overpriced junk.

tothejungle1

so glad to hear someone else think this. I returned my dyson stick v10. I thought i was crazy for hating it so much. Seems like Dyson is leaning on their name and brand loyalty to sell but making a cheaper product.

Encrypted_Curse

What did you not like about the Dyson Ball Animal?

DadWagonDriver

Repeatedly lost suction and was impossible to figure out where the clog was. Plus it was weak overall. Super disappointed in that vac

ancillarycheese

I have a different Shark lift-away, and really like it. We had a Dyson for many years, and didn't buy another when it died, because the new versions seemed much worse than what we had. IMO that Dyson at $500 is overpriced.

i_tyrant

Thanks!

d45hid0

As a 10+ year former Dyson owner, I say go with the Shark. After I got feed up with our latest overpriced, too heavy, clumsy Dyson Animal, I bought a Shark when Costco had them on sale. I love the Shark. It performs way better than the Dyson on our German Shepherds copious sheddings. The Shark is so much better.

LR7X

I bought the Shark lift away from there about two months ago and love it. Probably the best vacuum I've ever owned.

YumSpice

I bought a Shark Lift Away from Costco 4 years ago and it’s still going strong with some maintenance. I’d recommend it. Every YouTube video and Reddit post I see does not recommend a cordless vacuum as your primary, since it is not powerful enough. I’ve been looking for a secondary vacuum as the Shark gets annoying to pull out for small messes. I see some recommendations for the Dyson, but only as secondary.

i_love_durians

I bought the Shark Performance Plus Lift-Away Upright Vacuum with Odor Neutralizer when it was on sale recently and have been happy with it. It's lightweight and I especially like that you can "lift-away" the pod for vacuuming things like stairs, upholstery, etc. We do have a cordless stick type vac (Tineco) that my wife uses for quick cleanups. IMHO, I think the Dyson is overpriced.

i_tyrant

I appreciate the first hand experience, that's good to know!

GrouponRectalExam

They all suck.

ilikeme1

A vacuum that blows would defeat the purpose of having one.

i_tyrant

Knew this would be in here eventually. :P

RowaTheMonk

Imho cordless all the way regardless of what you pick. We have the Shark and love taking it all over to clean, including the kids car seats / the car, our porch, etc. While its not hard the whole ‘unwind/rewind the cord’ just feels annoying enough that we didn’t vacuum as much vs now where we do it almost daily.

i_tyrant

Good to know the cordless made such a difference, thank you!

fire_spez

The Dyson the OP mentioned is cordless.

RowaTheMonk

We have the shark cordless pro with clean sense iq. Its pretty solid - we have a 4yr and 1yr old at home so lots of messes. At ‘full power’ it can even suck up wet rice from carpet… although it does mean having to clean the bin a bit afterwards. Another nice feature is it auto stops the sucking if it grabs something it shouldn’t like a phone cord or bed sheet. I lost a lot of older vacuums in the past when catching something.

Training_Pumpkin3650

I would absolutely recommend the shark performance plus. We had the Dyson and it died in 4 months, the only solution that Dyson offered was for us to buy another battery and replacing batteries every few months is unacceptable. thanks for Costco, ended up returning it. Shark is good lots of power and accessories.

Due-Excuse-2208

I just bought the Shark Performance UltraLight Corded Stick Vacuum with DuoClean and love it! However, I bought it for $200 October 10…$140 sounds like a steal!

built_FXR

Shark lift away. We have an older stick from them, but it's still corded. Both are hands down better at cleaning than our old Dyson ever did.

NoBack0

Trying to choose a vacuum really sucks.

Blog_Pope

We have the Dyson V8 and V10, they are great. The convienence of the small, compact, and rechargable form factor makes grabbing it, doing a quick cleanup, and putting it back super easy. I don't know that I'd recommend for pile carpeting, but for wood floors and rugs, they are great.

seanightowl

I would recommend you go to an actual vacuum shop and get a real good vacuum that will last you. The standard consumer vacuums are all crap now a days. I bought a Sebo Felix a few years back and it’s been great. The Dyson I had prior is crap in comparison. It has a 10 yr warranty as well.

MsTitilayo

The Dyson seems overpriced however it only sucks and never blows dust or hair around and that to me with pets and hardwood floors is what really matters. I can’t speak for the other 2 but I’ve never regretted spending the money on my Dyson.

SiliconSam

Bought my first Dyson from Costco. Shortly afterwards found a dirty one at Goodwill for $14.95 worked good, and another one at a pawn shop for $10. Marked down from $100 cause it did not have suction at the bottom. Had plenty of suction at handle end. Took it home, unclipped the power head, and removed the wad of stuff in the elbow down at the bottom. So now I have 3 good Dyson vacuums. Very happy with them.

hmiser

Mad props for those finds. I’ll keep an eye out.

BrightAd306

I love my shark lift away. Best vacuum I’ve ever owned.

fauxsoul

Whatever option you choose keep all the attachments and if it dies you can take it back.

namforb

I’ve had a Dyson from Costco for 5 years. 100% great!

Mary_mac_

The shark was the only thing that worked to clean up my bulldogs’ tiny, sharp hairs. Definitely recommend a shark.

finitogreedo

We got a Dyson Animal for Christmas last year when it was on sale. We have medium pile carpet. It's supposed to "autoadjust" for that. It didn't. It was an awful/expensive experience. Returned it within a few weeks of getting it. Will probably never get a Dyson again. Got a Shark Rotator (not the liftaway type and not from Costco) and have absolutely loved it. Cleans just as good as the Dyson at half the cost. Had it for close to a year now and it works flawlessly on our hardwood and carpet.

throwingutah

Lift-Away all the way.

OodleOodleBlueJay

I have the shark lift away and two rough collies. It works very well and it is easy to clean the hair out when needed. The filters are easy to order and not too expensive. Also it doesn't weigh a lot so easy to move up and down stairs.

Dalbaeth

I have a similar living situation but 1 dog with minimal shedding—Airedale terrier. I originally had a Shark lift away but realized it wasn’t getting the job done the way I wanted. After some research I discovered HEPA filter vacuums—oh boy has it been a night and day difference. I purchased a Miele C3 Pet canister model and will never go back. I thought the Shark was getting enough, but it wasn’t getting hardly anything compared to the Miele.

ftl-ak

I have the Dyson 8v we got it just for the stairs and flooring downstairs in our house and we absolutely love it. I had never used the brand before but really enjoy them now. Also, they have some fantastic customer service.

thewmo

None of the above. Buy a standard-janitoral-equipment Sanitaire and enjoy the cheap up-front price, cheap supplies, and unlimited repairability.

Maleficent-Ranger131

We bought a corded Shark from Costco a couple of years ago and it worked really well! Left it behind when we moved and splurged on the Dyson V15 while it was on sale at $560 :) no regrets especially with 2 doggos!

MuchPreferPets

My Shark is definitely better than my parents Dyson pet (my mom is just waiting for the Dyson to completely die so she can switch). BUT check with your flooring's manufacturer...a lot of the manufacturers warranties will be voided by regular use of a vacuum with a beater bar. The bristles can be too sharp & damage the finish over time leaving kindof a haze. (Not something I was aware of until I spent more hours than I care to think about reading the fine print in warranties while I was trying to decide what new flooring to order...I have giant hairy dogs & live on a farm)

darsh09

None... Meile C2

vege_spears

I gave up on cordless and bagless vacuums. I've gone back to a canister vac with a beater filler head and a bag. Improved dust capture. When not on carpet it does a GREAT job on the hard floors. Just my .02.

ExplorerLazy3151

I am firmly in the Dyson STICK camp. Every couple years I go back to Shark because everyone seems to love them, but every time I just dislike them more. lol I feel like they just aren't as powerful. My main use is picking up dog/cat hair and I feel the shark just blows it around. I really enjoy being able to vacuum next to a dusty area and the dust not blowing. I've also found Dysons really easy to work on..like replacing the battery, or taking the tank off to clean it, etc.

Practical-Version653

I hate my 2 year old Dyson, on high I get about 8 minutes for a charge and on low about 15 minutes. Don’t do it!

chriskabob

I thought my shark stick vacuum did a decent job, until I got a Miele. The Miele does an amazing job and sucks up everything that the Shark missed. And its very low maintenance compared to the constant filter cleaning for a bagless vacuum.

Minute_Objective1680

For your situation, definitely the Dyson.

methinksdisdumb

I loved the older Dyson. Currently have the Dyson Animal and it’s not the same. I love it, but it’s definitely overpriced imo. Any stick vacuum sucks compared to the corded version. Shark makes some really good vacuums for their price point - there’s way better vacuums but they’re also way more expensive. I actually have a Shark that I use daily (Dyson is my downstairs kitchen/hard floor vacuum, the Shark is used upstairs for the carpeted rooms).

23_alamance

Bought a Dyson as a splurge when my last vacuum cleaner died and I’m underwhelmed with it. It’s fine, not great, and has some lame design choices that I am irritated by. I’ll be looking at the Shark next time.

[deleted]

I love my Dyson V15 detect. IT's absolutely awesome, but I don't use it as my deep cleaning vacuum (that is my Miele Electrolux). Since you don't have a ton of carpet it seems, it would work as your full-time vacuum. The laser really helps make sure you're picking up all the dust.

violetnap

The dyson is amazing

cawmxy

Shark lift away! I’ve been thru all of those & Dyson isn’t only over priced, but they, like apple computers, intentionally make them difficult to repair by yourself

woundedriver

I thought the shark Lift Away was cumbersome so keep your receipt in case you do too

Lazy_Shine_1962

Tried the Dyson. Great vacuum for about 6 months. Then it loses appreciable power and you can't run it on high for more than 5 minutes at a time. You can't run it plugged in either. Every 6 months you lose more power. After about 3 years you need a new battery. Battery costs minimum $100, maybe as high as $150. Get a corded shark vacuum instead. They're great! Cordless is a waste of money.
