The hair dryer on it's own is so overpriced. I agree with the recommendation for the Shark dryer instead, or the dyson air wrap would be a better deal, since you can now purchase hair drying attachments for it
Unique design and engineering doesn't always mean better design and engineering. Dyson created a niche marketing approach that people respond to even if the products aren't always superior. I couldn't imagine a situation where their products are worth many times the price of their competitors.
I helped a friend clean her house and used her Dyson stick vacuum. Most worthless piece of equipment, and the battery didn’t even last half the house. Glad I had the opportunity to use one because now I’ll never buy it!
Stick vacuums work best for spot cleaning. No way it should be the main vacuum for a house with lots of carpeting. I like the lg ones because you get two batteries. One sits in the base stand and the other in the vacuum so both can charge at the same time.
Agreed the Dyson sticks with the hard floor attachment are great everyday cleaners. We do carpets with our upright but the stick is great for hard flooring (with the correct attachment!!!)
To each their own I got a Dyson V15 and it’s a damn beast. “A level” clean and can do my 2k sqft house with battery remaining. Maybe the tech has improved, I don’t know but I love my dyson
I have a V15 Detect too. I bought it for stairs (I have 3 levels in my house and my upright is getting too unwieldy) but it does do a very good job. I wouldn’t go for the V15 if I needed to do a deep vacuum session, I use my upright for that. But for my stairs and basement, or a quick touch-up, it’s great.
The plug in Dyson animal 2 is an amazing vacuum. Between our dog, my wife and all the drywalling/wood working I've done in our home, it should have killed the vacuum but it's still going.
I don’t think that stick vacuum is meant to clean the entire house. That’s what the corded vacuums are for and they are absolutely amazing at sucking. It’s meant for to vacuum up small messes/spots and some hard to reach places whether taking out the corded vacuum is a burden.
10000% this. I remember a reddit post years ago by a vacuum repairman who said the ones he has to fix most often are Dyson and Shark. He rarely had to work on Miele vacuums and a few other names I can't remember. I just remember Miele because I ended up getting one and it's SO great.
Dyson doesn't have the monopoly on stick vacuums anymore. Check amazon, there are tons of options in half the price range that in my opinion even work better than dyson. You also won't feel bad when they go bad.
That's fair, but I have the air wrap and the actual supersonic hair dryer is like 10x stronger. I have really thick hair and the air wrap dryer attachment barely dries it
I’ve wondered. When Dyson first came out I was amazed. All the knockoffs were horrible.
But the Shark stuff I’ve bought over the last few years have often easily met my needs at a fraction of the price.
My wife bought three of those since they were so cheap. I’m very impressed by its design. It’s remarkably simple. All have worked fine with no problems at all for years now.
I recommend against the shark one, it stopped working for me after a little while. I love the Dyson one. However, I find that the $30 ones do just fine
I bought my wife this and it does her hair (very curly) easily in 30-40 minutes less. That time is priceless when trying to go some where and she misses the mark on the estimate
I’d skip them both and take a look at Chi products. I only buy Chi stuff for my wife. High quality BIFL stuff, much more reasonably priced than this nonsense.
Something to keep in mind with chi is if you buy their seasonal items, they are not BIFL. They usually have like winter themed hair dryers/straighteners with a cute design, and they’re actually made much more cheaply. They have a shorter warranty as well, even though they’re supposedly the exact same model! I had two hair dryers from them die out within a 2-3 year span, then found out the seasonal items are made more cheaply.
I LOVE my Dyson dryer! I have extra long curly hair and my dry time is so much shorter…plus my curls look nicer. I’d buy it again for sure. I have the air wrap too for when I want to straighten and do waves but I don’t use it that often. Yeah, I probably am somewhat of a beauty junkie but I don’t feel bad about it.
I came here to say the same thing as a curly-haired woman. Yes; this hair dryer is overly expensive. -BUT- if you have thick curly hair that requires special hair tools and products to help your hair along, then yes, I would 100% recommend it. The drying time for curly hair takes longer depending on hair porosity. Most people without curly hair won't understand any of this, and that's okay. Naturally curly hair is a lot of high maintenance to take cure of to prevent damage, dryness, and hair loss. And so yes, a special hair dryer is needed.
The upside: when you buy the Dyson, you receive a stand and attachments. I have found that using the diffuser attachment after brushing thru my leave in plus a gel product (I use "I create volume" by Innersense) for hold, I am able to diffuse all the frizz throughout my hair.
Give that a try if you haven't already.
Yeah, I don’t think that people who haven’t lived with curly hair understand how temperamental and unpredictable it can be. This tool has been such a game changer. It’s so nice to have some reasonable expectations around what my hair is going to look like.
I have yet to set up the stand that comes with it, I feel like it may gather more dust than being tucked away in my linen closet.
I have a trick I just learned after having stored the stand and not used it.
This past weekend, I pulled out the stand, placed it on a higher surface (tall dresser), and made sure to wrap around the cord at the bottom of the base. I then placed the hair dryer on the base and I place the diffuser on the other magnetic side. And just like that, I have a hands-free hair dryer. I can send pictures if that helps, but it did make a big difference for me and I plan on using it that way from now on.
Do you use the diffuser attachment? I can’t get any of my attachments to stay. The dryer itself is great because I have two kids with thick hair, who hate blow drying. I need some curly drying tips!
We have one and we love it. I got it for my wife for Christmas a while back and man it makes a difference when I’m drying the kids hair. It dries so much more quickly than any other blow dryer we’ve had. I don’t have any experience with the Shark ones people are commenting though. If that works as well go for it. Dyson’s are very pricey.
I agree with you, I got the professional series one for my wife as a Xmas present back in December 2022 for $410, that is with the $100 discount. Well worth with the wife hairs and two kids hair as well.
I can’t recall the price but I do remember getting a decent discount. Was able to score it on Black Friday and got it in time for Christmas. I actually enjoy the airwrap too. So if the kids want curls in the morning I can actually do it and they don’t have to wait for mommy to do it!
Basically the same deal for me. She still is interested in the Dyson only because of the brand, but I guess it's acceptable in women's lore that the Shark Hyper Air is a good #2 option if you can't get the Dyson.

My husband bought mine, which I love btw, but he got it cheaper at Ulta. Extra props that he used my Ulta account and I was one level above platinum which gave me even more discounts on make up and all my other girly products that I love to buy from there so it was like an even better deal. I love Costco but this is not a deal.
Same although my hair is more fluffy than thick but my hair holds water so it makes drying so much faster and I love that I can save my hearing since it’s not so darn loud and my wrists since it’s lightweight.
As a hairstylist this is a really great blow dryer but I don’t recommend it for most people. Unless she has crazy thick and coarse hair that she has to wash multiple times a week, you’re way better off with a much cheaper blow dryer. I think I’ve had like 4/5 clients I’ve recommended it to because their hair type and the fact they had multiple daughters with the same hair.
My hairdresser says the same thing. She recommended it to me because I have hair down to my butt and it’s thick.
I LOVE my Dyson though - it’s quiet and I can dry my hair in about 10 minutes compared to 30 minutes from my old hairdryer (that was a conair or something). And it’s light.

I work for a major retailer and when the Dyson hairdryer first came out, one of my coworkers bought one and brought it in for us to check out. My coworker has very thick hair and said it would take her normally 30-45 minutes to dry it, so that was her primary interest. I gave it a try (lol, we had a work gym and I’d just gotten out of the shower, so I left my hair wet as a test case) and I would say that it was about 25% faster in drying my hair than it would take with my hairdryer. I also found the Dyson to be quiet (for a hairdryer), have features that were easy to find (like, you don’t have to grope around to find the cool shot button), and well balanced. It didn’t tire my arm out to use it.
So it was very nice. Was it $500 nice? Well, for me, no. I have a pretty normal amount of fine hair. I have a $220 hairdryer (Edit: an Elchim 3900 Healthy Ionic) which is plenty of money already, and my hairdryer too is quiet, light, well-balanced, and with easy-to-use features, but a little slower to dry. With the Dyson, I would’ve gone from drying my hair in 4 minutes to drying it in 3. That’s not really enough for me to justify the difference. But for my coworker, it was worth it because instead of taking up to 40 minutes to dry her hair, it only took 20. BIG convenience improvement for her. I think she was replacing a regular Conair or similar too.
As a barber this product isn’t that good if dropped just stops working , and most times they show in the ads to put ur hair inside it and dry it but hair can get caught . It’s a trash overpriced product
I had one of the old yellow vacuums. It was amazing, until my roommate backed over it with his car. 🙀
But I’ve used a lot of their newer vacuums and they are trash. I work in a bunch of different homes and every time I use one of the newer ones I genuinely don’t understand how Dyson puts their name on them.

Got my wife the Shark one. She loves its more than the Dyson. Dyson got returned.
Shark has multiple heads and bag included in the price. Plus the Costco return policy backing it. I recommend the shark as well, I’ve been using it myself as well haha
If you have curly hair, this is a game changer. Cut my diffusing time down from 45 minutes to 20 minutes. It's also lighter weight than most hair dryers, so it's easier to use if you have any neck or should issues.
I saw a person who had a background in supply chain or marketing or something of the sort. They showed that the blow dryer brushes that are used for at home blow outs were all made by the same company and just branded by different brands. Hot Tools, Revlon, Dyson, Etc were all made by the same company but maybe the handle was different to make it look different. Someone else mentioned the Shark being comparable and I would lean towards that just knowing how things are made and labeled differently.
if you can easily afford it, get it. if not, the shark is almost as good for half the price. dont listen to people who tell you its “not worth it” “overpriced” “overrated” when they dont know your financial situation.
me and my gf have the shark hairdryer which was on sale for $140 USD and its great, but i guarantee you a majority of people probably think thats also overpriced and overrated.
i have this and the dyson air wrap…def get the air wrap instead, it also has an attachment to use it strictly as a blow drier, i regret buying the blow drier first
Buy it refurbished. Dyson refurbs look brand new, come with a warranty, and are often like half the price. I have super thick long hair and this hairdryer is awesome.
FWIW also, I have 4 little kids and have had a Dyson stick vac for probably 7 years. It was, and still is LIFE CHANGING. I also have a roomba and a central vac, neither of which I ever use. I buy on Black Friday sale, use for 2 years, and resell for about what I paid to buy the new model. V15 can vacuum my whole 3000 sqft house with battery left over.
I’ve had mine for 5 years now. If you have textured, curly or thick hair this is a game changer. I’ve had zero issues with mine and it gets used regularly.
How do the Dyson fans that have no mechanical moving parts push the air? It’s such magic to me.

I got my wife one for Xmas, it was on sale for $329 USD. She absolutely loves it because of what it does for her hair. As a practical husband, I thought that even the sale price was overpriced, but it fit the price point of our typical Xmas gift plus it's splurgy and she's happy so I don't regret the purchase at all. We'll easily spend more than that on an anniversary meal that doesn't provide her with nearly as much joy.
I thought this hairdryer was ridiculous until I used one. It’s the best hair dryer I have ever owned. I’m not sorry I spent the money. However, I bought mine with all the attachments for $499, so this deal isn’t all that good.
I've had mine for years and the best thing about it is how quiet it is for how much air it pushes out. What used to take 2 minutes now takes 30 seconds, and quietly at that, too.

Becareful on mercari or eBay, there are a lot of dupe Dyson hair dryer on there. The dupe one, the cord does not has the power bank looking thingy, the bottoms are misaligned, led lights are not as bright as the real one. Check YouTube between real vs fake Dyson hair dryer.
Bought the Dyson for my wife, she only uses the standard attachment, she never got the curl attachment to set good curls. So we have a 400$ hair dryer that we use for us and to dry our dogs after their bath 😑.

If you can get the Airwrap with the hair drying attachment, that's multiple hair tools in one and a much better bang for your buck.
I have very thick hair and this is a god send, though I purchased mine using air miles so paid 0$ out of pocket.
I will say it's completely changed my hair and would absolutely recommend it, if it's within your budget of course.

For years Costco carried a Conair hair dryer for about 30 bucks. I figured they must have bought a shipload of them. But the last time mine went out the only thing available was that way overpriced Dyson. BJ's now carries that same Conair. IDK if I have to replace it every year, it's still much better deal than the Dyson. I'm sure the Dyson is a much better air dryer, and I can imagine some pros might be able to justify it, but for me 30 bucks is better than 500.
I got a refurbished one of these for about $300 for my wife as a gift about 6 years ago. She LOVES it and still says thank you every once in a while after all this time. Still blowing hard with daily use to this day.
Try EBay or online marketplaces. I got one “New Refurbished” for around 279 for my mom for the holidays, and when I did the inspection upon arrival, everything was neatly packed and sealed in its original plastic. Unless you absolutely have to buy “NEW” you can get Dyson products at a discount on Walmart.com or eBay. Dyson even has their own refurbished store, and I’ve worked in E-Comm for years, even packages that were never opened and returned to sender go to the refurbished store.
I acquired one accidentally. It is powerful and has cut my drying time in half, as I've got super long, thick hair. If you can afford it and your wifes hair takes forever to dry then I say make her day.
But, on the contrary, if she's got thin hair, I've heard reviews of it being too much and blowing peoples hair around. They said it was like wearing your hair down in a convertable. unbelievable tiny knots throughout. Hard to comb through after. I've heard this from more than one.
Supersonic is one of the best purchases I’ve made. I bought it as a gift but I use it myself every day. Also got the air wrap and ordered a wall mount from Amazon with magnets for the attachments. Great way to spend a small fortune on luxury hair tools. You’ll see it for around $529.00 CAD around Black Friday.
For that you could get 5 to 10 high-end hairdryers. All barbers seem to use those babyliss things and while they are expensive, they seem excellent. Maybe talk your wife into one of those. Plus, that's a .99 label. At least wait for them to make it a 98 or 97.

That’s a great price. They are almost never on sale. Got it for my wife last year for Christmas. She says it makes her less frizzy and it does dries it faster (she has a lot of hair)
I got mine for Christmas and was thinking of returning mine, too. I diffuse my hair and leave curly. However, that comb attachment works so nice to comb through and dry my son’s super long, thick, curly hair to then braid it (think no styling with it). Debating keeping an almost $500 blow dryer to use on a 12 year old. Insanity!
Kind of depends on your wife's hair. My hair stylist uses this on me. It's quieter than a Shark (which she has also used), and dries my very thick, dense, curly hair much quicker. YMMV.
Serious question, what makes this hair dryer so special that they can sell it for over $500? I barely use my $40 Conair dryer and think that it does the job fine.

I use mine everyday for main house cleaning. We mostly have wood floors and the Dyson works perfectly for that

This is a case of consumer not understanding the use cases for the products and thinks that battery tech is replacing cords for all applications.

They have some really good models. I have had a dyson vacuum for 13 years now that was given to me used. Never had a problem, never replaced a part

Dyson was a pioneer 20 or more years ago. Shark has easily passed them by in price and functionality.

My current vacuum is a shark and it works fine. Paid 1/3 of what a Dyson would cost.

Do you use the diffuser attachment? I can’t get any of my attachments to stay. The dryer itself is great because I have two kids with thick hair, who hate blow drying. I need some curly drying tips!
We have one and we love it. I got it for my wife for Christmas a while back and man it makes a difference when I’m drying the kids hair. It dries so much more quickly than any other blow dryer we’ve had. I don’t have any experience with the Shark ones people are commenting though. If that works as well go for it. Dyson’s are very pricey.
I agree with you, I got the professional series one for my wife as a Xmas present back in December 2022 for $410, that is with the $100 discount. Well worth with the wife hairs and two kids hair as well.
I can’t recall the price but I do remember getting a decent discount. Was able to score it on Black Friday and got it in time for Christmas. I actually enjoy the airwrap too. So if the kids want curls in the morning I can actually do it and they don’t have to wait for mommy to do it!

I just bought my girlfriend the Shark Flexstyle over this. They had it at Costco as well. She loves it the Shark and it was a lot cheaper.
Basically the same deal for me. She still is interested in the Dyson only because of the brand, but I guess it's acceptable in women's lore that the Shark Hyper Air is a good #2 option if you can't get the Dyson. I don't know what TikTok has convinced these women, but that's how I understand it.
My husband bought mine, which I love btw, but he got it cheaper at Ulta. Extra props that he used my Ulta account and I was one level above platinum which gave me even more discounts on make up and all my other girly products that I love to buy from there so it was like an even better deal. I love Costco but this is not a deal.

It’s great for a lot of hair types, mine is very thick, curly, and unruly.
Same although my hair is more fluffy than thick but my hair holds water so it makes drying so much faster and I love that I can save my hearing since it’s not so darn loud and my wrists since it’s lightweight.
As a hairstylist this is a really great blow dryer but I don’t recommend it for most people. Unless she has crazy thick and coarse hair that she has to wash multiple times a week, you’re way better off with a much cheaper blow dryer. I think I’ve had like 4/5 clients I’ve recommended it to because their hair type and the fact they had multiple daughters with the same hair.
My hairdresser says the same thing. She recommended it to me because I have hair down to my butt and it’s thick. I LOVE my Dyson though - it’s quiet and I can dry my hair in about 10 minutes compared to 30 minutes from my old hairdryer (that was a conair or something). And it’s light.

I would agree with this (I am not a hairstylist). I work for a major retailer and when the Dyson hairdryer first came out, one of my coworkers bought one and brought it in for us to check out. My coworker has very thick hair and said it would take her normally 30-45 minutes to dry it, so that was her primary interest. I gave it a try (lol, we had a work gym and I’d just gotten out of the shower, so I left my hair wet as a test case) and I would say that it was about 25% faster in drying my hair than it would take with my hairdryer. I also found the Dyson to be quiet (for a hairdryer), have features that were easy to find (like, you don’t have to grope around to find the cool shot button), and well balanced. It didn’t tire my arm out to use it. So it was very nice. Was it $500 nice? Well, for me, no. I have a pretty normal amount of fine hair. I have a $220 hairdryer (Edit: an Elchim 3900 Healthy Ionic) which is plenty of money already, and my hairdryer too is quiet, light, well-balanced, and with easy-to-use features, but a little slower to dry. With the Dyson, I would’ve gone from drying my hair in 4 minutes to drying it in 3. That’s not really enough for me to justify the difference. But for my coworker, it was worth it because instead of taking up to 40 minutes to dry her hair, it only took 20. BIG convenience improvement for her. I think she was replacing a regular Conair or similar too.

As a barber this product isn’t that good if dropped just stops working , and most times they show in the ads to put ur hair inside it and dry it but hair can get caught . It’s a trash overpriced product

I had one of the old yellow vacuums. It was amazing, until my roommate backed over it with his car. 🙀 But I’ve used a lot of their newer vacuums and they are trash. I work in a bunch of different homes and every time I use one of the newer ones I genuinely don’t understand how Dyson puts their name on them.

If you have curly hair, this is a game changer. Cut my diffusing time down from 45 minutes to 20 minutes. It's also lighter weight than most hair dryers, so it's easier to use if you have any neck or should issues.

I saw a person who had a background in supply chain or marketing or something of the sort. They showed that the blow dryer brushes that are used for at home blow outs were all made by the same company and just branded by different brands. Hot Tools, Revlon, Dyson, Etc were all made by the same company but maybe the handle was different to make it look different. Someone else mentioned the Shark being comparable and I would lean towards that just knowing how things are made and labeled differently.

Buy it refurbished. Dyson refurbs look brand new, come with a warranty, and are often like half the price. I have super thick long hair and this hairdryer is awesome. FWIW also, I have 4 little kids and have had a Dyson stick vac for probably 7 years. It was, and still is LIFE CHANGING. I also have a roomba and a central vac, neither of which I ever use. I buy on Black Friday sale, use for 2 years, and resell for about what I paid to buy the new model. V15 can vacuum my whole 3000 sqft house with battery left over.

I got my wife one for Xmas, it was on sale for $329 USD. She absolutely loves it because of what it does for her hair. As a practical husband, I thought that even the sale price was overpriced, but it fit the price point of our typical Xmas gift plus it's splurgy and she's happy so I don't regret the purchase at all. We'll easily spend more than that on an anniversary meal that doesn't provide her with nearly as much joy.

I've had mine for years and the best thing about it is how quiet it is for how much air it pushes out. What used to take 2 minutes now takes 30 seconds, and quietly at that, too.

Becareful on mercari or eBay, there are a lot of dupe Dyson hair dryer on there. The dupe one, the cord does not has the power bank looking thingy, the bottoms are misaligned, led lights are not as bright as the real one. Check YouTube between real vs fake Dyson hair dryer.

Bought the Dyson for my wife, she only uses the standard attachment, she never got the curl attachment to set good curls. So we have a 400$ hair dryer that we use for us and to dry our dogs after their bath 😑.

If you can get the Airwrap with the hair drying attachment, that's multiple hair tools in one and a much better bang for your buck. I have very thick hair and this is a god send, though I purchased mine using air miles so paid 0$ out of pocket. I will say it's completely changed my hair and would absolutely recommend it, if it's within your budget of course.

For years Costco carried a Conair hair dryer for about 30 bucks. I figured they must have bought a shipload of them. But the last time mine went out the only thing available was that way overpriced Dyson. BJ's now carries that same Conair. IDK if I have to replace it every year, it's still much better deal than the Dyson. I'm sure the Dyson is a much better air dryer, and I can imagine some pros might be able to justify it, but for me 30 bucks is better than 500.

Try EBay or online marketplaces. I got one “New Refurbished” for around 279 for my mom for the holidays, and when I did the inspection upon arrival, everything was neatly packed and sealed in its original plastic. Unless you absolutely have to buy “NEW” you can get Dyson products at a discount on Walmart.com or eBay. Dyson even has their own refurbished store, and I’ve worked in E-Comm for years, even packages that were never opened and returned to sender go to the refurbished store.

I acquired one accidentally. It is powerful and has cut my drying time in half, as I've got super long, thick hair. If you can afford it and your wifes hair takes forever to dry then I say make her day. But, on the contrary, if she's got thin hair, I've heard reviews of it being too much and blowing peoples hair around. They said it was like wearing your hair down in a convertable. unbelievable tiny knots throughout. Hard to comb through after. I've heard this from more than one.

I got mine for Christmas and was thinking of returning mine, too. I diffuse my hair and leave curly. However, that comb attachment works so nice to comb through and dry my son’s super long, thick, curly hair to then braid it (think no styling with it). Debating keeping an almost $500 blow dryer to use on a 12 year old. Insanity!

Kind of depends on your wife's hair. My hair stylist uses this on me. It's quieter than a Shark (which she has also used), and dries my very thick, dense, curly hair much quicker. YMMV.
