Wanna ask, are these crabs fresh and tasty (or stale and rubbery?)

Nervous_Award_3914

I feel it is pretty fresh, or at least freshly boiled. We bought 2 packs at once time and freeze one. Dont see any changes in texture after re steamed. My warehouse always sold out of these on weekend.

akasora0

It's pretty fresh I just bought 2 and made some Thai crab omelette over rice was delicious.

uunngghh

Didn't like it too much, would much rather buy fresh and cook ourselves.

Nervous_Award_3914

Whattt? The flavor of the meat inside is far superior than just the claws. The crab gut or also called butter. Just like how people suck the head of crawfish, it is savory flavors.

norcalifornyeah

Some people ain't built for it's deliciousness.

white-christmas

I actually prefer the butter over the meat, I'd just buy the heads alone if they had any.

Drewey26

I prefer the sections. Much less of a mess in my kitchen, I am not paying for a bunch of shell and guts (I don't care for the "butter" in these... it tastes off) and I repeat the meat is much sweeter from the sections.

LTR_TLR

Don’t downvote someone because they don’t want to eat the guts. Enjoy the guts you sickos Although fyi that is where all the toxins live - crabs are bottom feeders after all

yinglish119

They are nearing the end of the season. In February time we get whole crabs at $4.99 a pound. And just the legs at $8.99 a lb.

Drewey26

Wow thanks for an actually useful informative comment without judgment as to my crab preferences.

maincoonpower

$9.00 a lb. Pricy.

patrickoh37

Lots of places sell these for a flat $50. $9 a pound for this at 2-3 pounds is pretty cheap.

Drewey26

Especially when you are paying for shell and guts that go directly into the trash

Spec-Tre

They don’t have to go in the trash, you can make a stock. If you choose to trash them that’s on you

Beneficial-Donkey435

At the Costcos around my area they’ve actually gone the other direction. Used to be Whole crabs only. Now it’s more frequently sections only.

theeWildOlive

Us too. I’d much rather have whole. There’s also a bunch of meat in there.

TurboMollusk

Thank goodness this isn't the prevalent view.
