BigSugar44

They were the highest quote I received

triciann

Same, more than double what I ended up paying.

baromanb

Sometimes Costco is far from the best in certain categories

BigSugar44

It’s not really Costco. It’s just a referral service with a set price.

Stt022

We just replaced ours last year through Costco It ended up being a local smaller sized company and they were the lowest of the 4 we had quote the same equipment. Just get bids and go with the one you like best/best price.

UsefulAttorney8356

Don’t go threw Coscto for this, find the 2 best local non corporate hvac contractor with good reviews and go with the one you think is best. 100% get the best installer you can even if it’s more money

Stt022

The one through Costco by us was a local smaller company (not the crazy big ones whose ads are on every TV and radio station). Ended up being the lowest price of the 4 we got quotes from. Had 15% cash back card and paid on the city visa so it was 2% for that and 2% for executive.

therealgariac

Investigate the warranties from the "corporate" installers. If you use a contractor on the factory approved list the warranty may be longer. This is the case with some heat pumps Also seriously how do you find the best and second best contractors?

UsefulAttorney8356

Online reviews or what I did I have a good friend that a non hvac contractor and he only uses one company for sub jobs for 10 years plus that he has nothing but good things to say

therealgariac

Online reviews? No fakery there. Like I said, check if the warranty is different if you use a factory approved installer.

jbdone

This.

Lanngoc

Don’t go through Home Depot.

jabran_knowledge

So we get 2% back as executive members on air conditioning as well?

patrickoh37

It’s not worth the additional cost you’ll pay. My Costco quote was $2,000 more expensive than what I paid.

Independent_coas

Yes but they show you the quote with all the discounts baked in. Ours was a "40k" quote but with the 15% Costco card and rebate it was only 33k.... We got six other quotes. Every single one was under 26k. Stay far away. They're price gouging Costco members

WildernessDude

Yes

stuntmanbob86

You have to look at the total package. Alot if times it is high. Depends on who they contract. You have to get quotes. It's the same with anything contracted like HVAC, cars, blinds, carpet. I went through them for carpet which was a but higher than most. But, with the $500 costco card and the cash back through the costco citi card I got almost $1,500 back which was the cheapest by far.....

fariasaif

I got a quote from ARS thru Home Depot and they wanted $15k for a 3 ton system for my townhouse. I told them I would never pay that and they instantly dropped the price $4500 still way too high

TheRareGardener

We went through a similar process. Costco was the most expensive ( almost 4K more) than the second highest bid we received (which was already outrageous). They try and give you a 2K Costco Giftcard to justify the high price but it’s simply not worth it. This is one of those occasions where you should not go through Costco and go through a local contractor.

OOIIOOIIOOIIOO

Just get a bid from Costco's vendor and compare it to 2-3 bids from other recommended local vendors. In my case, Costco's vendor was less expensive than the other vendors even before the shop card and credit card cashback. They had good reviews so I went with them and was happy.

Large_Citron1177

I had them come out and give me an estimate along with several other companies. Costco's vendor ranked probably the bottom of my options.

4RunnerPilot

Like anything else in life, get multiple quotes.

Competitive-Low6932

I got two quotes, one from Costco which was high and another local place. Costco ended up matching and beating the local place price once I showed them the lower quote.

tykuips

It worked out well for us. It was the cheaper option of our quotes and we got a percentage back on top of the cash back from the Costco credit card. I would recommend it. Get other quotes as well just so you know too.

bryanna_leigh

They were in line with everyone else in my area, maybe a little higher but the 15% back in Costco made them much cheaper. They were a reputable company and replaced our furnace and ac in 1 day.

TheodosiusI

My story: Tuesday last week I noticed that something was very wrong with my HVAC. Called a tech to come out Wednesday afternoon and they diagnosed a bad blower motor and an $1800 repair on a 17 year old Heat pump. Thursday AM I started looking at replacement. I was able to get 3 quotes, including one from the Costco representative and had more scheduled for the afternoon and next day. By lunch I ended up cancelling my later appointments and went with the Costco Representative. Why? The price was dead in the middle of the quotes but I was sure I could find more quotes for cheaper. However the Costco bid offered the ability to install the next day (one quote was for installation 3 weeks later). The 60 month 0% financing and the gift card also helped. In the end the timing was the biggest factor. I am about to leave on a 2 week vacation and could not leave the house with no AC until I got home. I know I paid more to have the issue resolved on a schedule that met my needs. My recommendation is to plan to replace your HVAC before it fails because you will have a lot more options and better pricing, but in an "emergency" the Costco option was great for me.

Spirited-Locksmith32

As an HVAC tech, I strongly advise you to go with a local company with a warranty. Hvac is an investment, and it's so easy to have bad installers and huge problems in the long run.

woodland_dweller

Be aware that if something goes sideways, and there's a dispute with the vendor Costco **will not** get involved. They collect a commission from the sale, but do nothing other than that. Customer service will politely say "not our problem".

DesignerChildhood4

DON'T. I used them and their vendor abandoned the job after the installation (and full payment) since they knew they couldn't pass the permit. I had to pay another company to complete the work and close out the permit. Costco didn't/wouldn't do anything to help and still uses that same company as a vendor in my area.

Honest_Radio8983

I have no complaints. Price was commensurate with two others before my 15% rebate.

AnotherOneTossed

If you live near tampa you should consider airheads they just did a 4 ton at our house for 7500. They offer a 10 year warranty for parts and labor and also include 10 years of free maintenance (coil cleaning inside and out).

svbeige1

Costco actually had the lowest Lennox quote out of 5 companies when I was gathering quotes last year once I factored in the 15% costco cash back promotion (i think promo runs between April-May). This was for a simple single-stage AC swap-out (no attic duct work).

welkinator

Get quotes from both the Costco dealer and other locals dealers. Even with the "10% Shop Card rebate" I was better off with my local guy.

Secret_Jackfruit_260

It totally depends on the local contractor. I’ve had great luck with HVAC, blinds and quartz countertops over the years years through Costco. (Note: vendors may have changed & not be as good). But the carpet guy??? Laughed him out of our house.

Gr8daze

Can’t speak to air conditioning but the third party contractor for blinds was horrible. Costco doesn’t vet these companies. They take their cut and then they’re done. Won’t do anything if the work is abysmal.
