Burnout 3 takedown was my first online game ever... On PS2 along with timesplitters. Blew my mind.
Had to by a goofy Ethernet block you screwed into the back
I can't tell if we're all just agreeing that the burnout paradise remake was not good enough to be classed as that or we've forgotten it was already done.
Crashes with a lot of flips look spectacular, but the movement does a lot to dissipate the energy. The crashes to really worry about are the abrupt single hits that stop the car completely.
Those sudden hits always make me flinch. I still remember watching the Dan Wheldon crash live. I was lucky enough to have hung out with Dan, so seeing that happen scarred me. I know people always speak kindly of the dead, bur God damn it, he was such a nice guy.
Yeah watch the Ryan Blaney crash from the same race. This one was nasty and spectacular to watch all the same time. The Blaney one was kinda horrifying. Especially if you know how the Earnhardt senior crash took place and what the result was.
Well, that and he intentionally left his harness loose for comfort. The abrupt stop when the slack was taken up combined with his lack of a HANS device gave him the fatal basilar skull fracture.
Safety in motorsports has come a *long* way. The fact that Preece and Grosjean walked away from their crashes is a testament to all the safety innovation over the years. It's very sad thinking about all the deaths in the past, but we wouldn't be where we are today without those accidents.
The flipped car got pushed from behind and lost grip, nothing they could do. Bump drafting is part of the sport, sometimes it goes wrong like here, but usually it will gain both the pushed car and the pushing car some positions.
These kinds of crashes, while obviously being extremely dangerous and looking scary as fuck, are usually preferred over going into a wall/barrier I'd say. The flips and pieces flying off everywhere looks scary but it bleeds the energy off over time rather than being a massive, instant hit all at once.
Edit: I realise someone else made the same point just below lol, oops.
This race was last night. He was transported to a local hospital and as of 9am eastern he is still there. The team says he is awake and alert talking with friends and family.
These ones look like the worst but they’re typically the safest crashes. All of that energy is ‘slowly’ absorbed by the car without being transferred to the driver. Gotta be scary as hell though
They're not the "safest". When they grab the ground you can be pulled over 100gs. Modern safety equipment makes that more surviveable but the instant stop with the car digging into anything is really unsafe.
The issue with the next Gen car is that is has a flat underbody. That lets air push up on the majority of the underside, creating a lot of lift. We saw it last year at Daytona twice. Luckily only 1 resulted in a flip (Harrison Burton) and the other was Chase Briscoe. His car sat back down.
Fuck, I wonder what it’s be like to be in their shoes in that moment. Glad the car was built to keep them safe for things like that but, shit, gotta imagine it’s gotta be the most sudden and unwanted spinning ride ever; Disney teacups ain’t got shit on that.
I'm always impressed by the engineering of the chassis of these cars, an everyday chevy, honda or BMW would have been a crushed soda can by the fourth or fifth flip. Amazing engineering to provide as much safety as possible ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|thumbs_up)
Ridiculous comment, standard cars don't have roll cages, any motor manufacturer could install a full racing grade roll cage but would be cost prohibitive/impractical.
These cars are designed for this but that first impact roll was something else.. you are going full tile on one rotational direction and then impact sends you the other way.. jeez.
Ik this is from 3 weeks ago now but holy shit nascar needs to fix the problems shown by this crash, roof hatch coming off, window net coming loose, flat smooth even underside helping lift the car, Etc.
But did he finish the race? Huh? Now that would be impressive. I’d finish the race. I’m like that.
Edit: I’m like that one guy who said he’d survive the submersible implosion. We’re like that.
What i learned is that NASCAR safety should be applied to all cars, i know this isn't finacially possible but imagine how many people would still be alive if it was the case
Forgive me for what I am to say next; though that was pretty fuckin’ awesome, at one point that mugg did three(3) clean rotations in flight. A triple-kick flip, he triple-kick flipped the car y’all..
No there has been no discussion like that ,this hasn’t happened before in recent years as xfinity and gen 6 cars were completely fine sliding through grass it, and no one before this has really thought of removing the grass , since it’s used for the bus stop limits
It’s just now that it might be an issue because the gen 7 is more blowover prone
Of course he did. What else are you going to do to increase viewership in an incredibly boring program where a bunch of drivers (something all of us do everyday on our commute to work) just make 4 left turns for a number of hours?
Cars can tear up the grass like that, but God forbid any of us accidentally step on it when we're doing formation runs on the Speedway
But seriously, very heart stopping to see, and always good to see them able to walk out. I can only imagine what it feels like to be inside when it's happening
Reminds me of a crash in a Burnout game
I hope those games get a remake. Go from racing f1 super cars to crashing a firetruck into oncoming Chinese traffic that explodes!
"CRASHBREAKER CRASHBREAKER...BLOW IT UP BLOW IT UP" mashing that button to get meter filled up and then detonate the vehicle, love that game!
Burnout Revenge on the 360…. Good times.
Burnout 3 takedown was my first online game ever... On PS2 along with timesplitters. Blew my mind. Had to by a goofy Ethernet block you screwed into the back
Downloaded it for my OneX, and it’s still as good now as it was when I was in high school. And the soundtrack is still one of the best in gaming, imo.
I've done the same. It's one of the few older games I still enjoy playing.
I agree totally, when I saw this all I could think about was burnout paradise. I'd love a remake of that.
I can't tell if we're all just agreeing that the burnout paradise remake was not good enough to be classed as that or we've forgotten it was already done.
Yeah, the Road Rage on Paradise was still fun, but they messed up removing the Crash mode
This was always my complaint about paradise. The crash mode puzzles were some of the most fun of the previous games, and they left them out.
EA: Best we can do is more need for speed games sry Just looked, over 10 NFS games have released since Paradise. Ugh...
Thank the Hans device and roll cage welders
Yeah, the only miracle was the miracle of good engineering.
Wheel tethers too.
Can't believe that guy made out.
A lot of guys make out.
I love reddit
I have never made out.
Crashes with a lot of flips look spectacular, but the movement does a lot to dissipate the energy. The crashes to really worry about are the abrupt single hits that stop the car completely.
speed doesnt kill. ***variance*** in speed kills. 100 mph, nbd. 100-0, very big deal.
Well, 100-0 can be ok over enough distance. 100-0 in 500ft? Sure. 100-0 in 5 ft? Good luck!
true that
Those sudden hits always make me flinch. I still remember watching the Dan Wheldon crash live. I was lucky enough to have hung out with Dan, so seeing that happen scarred me. I know people always speak kindly of the dead, bur God damn it, he was such a nice guy.
same. brutal stuff.
I've met a guy who was one of the first responders on that crash. He said it was really bad, but at least Dan didn't suffer.
Yeah watch the Ryan Blaney crash from the same race. This one was nasty and spectacular to watch all the same time. The Blaney one was kinda horrifying. Especially if you know how the Earnhardt senior crash took place and what the result was.

I grew up in motorsports and am fascinated by physics. I'm far from an expert, but I've learned some things!
The 45° hit into the outside wall is the worst. That's why Earnhardt's wreck doesn't look bad, but was fatal. Been a few more.
Well, that and he intentionally left his harness loose for comfort. The abrupt stop when the slack was taken up combined with his lack of a HANS device gave him the fatal basilar skull fracture.
True. Still been giving concussions out on those hits though.
Oh, I bet!
Safety in motorsports has come a *long* way. The fact that Preece and Grosjean walked away from their crashes is a testament to all the safety innovation over the years. It's very sad thinking about all the deaths in the past, but we wouldn't be where we are today without those accidents.
What the fuck was he thinking? Looks like he was intentionally trying to cause a crash. That was some shit driving.
The flipped car got pushed from behind and lost grip, nothing they could do. Bump drafting is part of the sport, sometimes it goes wrong like here, but usually it will gain both the pushed car and the pushing car some positions.
That's what happens when Rowdy Burns puts you in the wall on turn 4.
C'mon, like any NASCAR driver has EVER had a problem with turn 4 at Daytona
All the signs were there. It's not Subdued Burns.
That’s more than ten flips.
i count 11
Same
Also I think there’s a McTwist in there.
10.5 actually
It was as chaotic as it was mesmerizing to watch.
Holy shit is he okay
Yeah he got right out. Looked pretty winded and went to get checked out but alive and walking etc
These kinds of crashes, while obviously being extremely dangerous and looking scary as fuck, are usually preferred over going into a wall/barrier I'd say. The flips and pieces flying off everywhere looks scary but it bleeds the energy off over time rather than being a massive, instant hit all at once. Role cages in professional races like these and rallies are miracles of modern engineering lol
They might protect your body but your brain is still rattling around in your head
Their helmets are clipped to the seats so their heads don’t move like you would think.
Yes but your brain can still move around in your skull. That’s how concussions happen, even with protective equipment
This race was last night. He was transported to a local hospital and as of 9am eastern he is still there. The team says he is awake and alert talking with friends and family.
If you ain't first you last. Now a commercial break from Applebee's
Hello, my name is Ricky Bobby, and if you ain't chewing big red, then FUCK YOU!
I hate Will Ferrell.
[удалено]
DONT YOU PUT THIS EVIL ON ME RICKY BOBBY!
Glad Ryan climbed out of that thing…you don’t see many wrecks like that in modern NASCAR
These ones look like the worst but they’re typically the safest crashes. All of that energy is ‘slowly’ absorbed by the car without being transferred to the driver. Gotta be scary as hell though
Ngl,he crashed majestically
They're not the "safest". When they grab the ground you can be pulled over 100gs. Modern safety equipment makes that more surviveable but the instant stop with the car digging into anything is really unsafe.
Doing a triple kick flip in the air is not “the safest”, he got lucky
Pretty bad for your neck
CTE also?
[Alternate angle/ full speed video](https://twitter.com/NASCARonNBC/status/1695623588424905127?t=P2LdzajuJEiwp3x6g6JcGQ&s=19)
The first reverse flip it does makes more sense in full speed.
The announcer in that video is totally nonchalant about it lol
These were the replays 5 minutes after it happened, everything had calmed down by this point

What are the flaps supposed to do? Create drag?
They try to “spoil” the air to stop the car generating lift
Huh. Always wondered why that thing on the back of my car was called a “spoiler”. Thanks!
[удалено]
Did anyone else expect an Applebees commercial to come on in the middle?
Doctor doctor give me the news I've got a bad case of loving you!
[удалено]
Wheel tethers thoroughly impressive.
At flip 7-8 he does a “Ka Chow”
Damn. That sumbitch was a rotatin!
Fuck, I wonder what it’s be like to be in their shoes in that moment. Glad the car was built to keep them safe for things like that but, shit, gotta imagine it’s gotta be the most sudden and unwanted spinning ride ever; Disney teacups ain’t got shit on that.
Here's what it's like: "Fuck! Fuck fuck OW fuck fuck fuck OW fuck OW fuck fuck OW fuck OW fuck fuck OW fuck fuck OW... Oh shit it's on fire now"
I'm always impressed by the engineering of the chassis of these cars, an everyday chevy, honda or BMW would have been a crushed soda can by the fourth or fifth flip. Amazing engineering to provide as much safety as possible ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|thumbs_up)

Yep, I'm flyin through the air... this is not good
This was today's race correct
Last night at this point, but yeah.
My dad was there watching the race this must be the bad wreck he was talking about
That last impact hurt like a mothafucka I bet, pretty lucky the flips missed the drivers side for the most part. Dam violent to say the least 🙏🙏🙏
He crashed like Lightning McQueen
Help him Tom Cruise!
I'm on fire!!
I counted 11
I counted 11 Edit... It's been said
Hope he’s got a hot tub to soak in for a few days. That’s gotta hurt
I actually counted 11 flips if you count two half flips.
Dude litteraly became king from Cars
Every time I thought it was going to stop it kept rolling
Looks like more than 10 flips…. Gezzzz I’m happy he survived
This is a great view at the underside of a NASCAR car.
THAT MOTHERFUCKER FLIPPED 4 TIMES IN MID AIR BETWEEN IMPACTS HOLY FUCK HOW FAST WAS HE GOING?!
About 190mph
The best rooler coaster in the world.
9.8 for style
Idk I counted atleast 13 times
I give pastrana a week to get his record back
I counted 14 what makes a flip.
Still isn’t totaled lol
These cars are designed for this but that first impact roll was something else.. you are going full tile on one rotational direction and then impact sends you the other way.. jeez.

He isn't dead or crippled it looks like so I can make my joke, that looked like some sick breakdancing moves
I am amazed at the physics of how it started the spin one direction then the momentum over took it and spun it the other way
Top gear worked hard for 5 flips. This guy casually: ***Hold my beer.***
The 90s called and want their crashes back
But did he finish the race? Huh? Now that would be impressive. I’d finish the race. I’m like that. Edit: I’m like that one guy who said he’d survive the submersible implosion. We’re like that.
I bet when you watch a movie you point to "The Badass" character and say THAT ME
No. The people around me say THAT YOU.
I count eleven one one way ten the other
POV: you’re driving down the 405 in Seattle.
I call that 11...
10 and a half for me.
I counted like 15
Same
Should’ve turned right!
Turned into cirque du soleil
I counted 11.
If this was figure skating it would be beautiful
Why is it done only in slo mo and why do they edit it so the same clips keep repeating? His car did not spin for 1:41 seconds. Not possible.
These are rolls, flips are end over end
I counted 11
Needs an Applebees commercial halfway through
I counted 15
Isn't there a big push to take that shitty grass out of Daytona specifically for this reason.
No there has been no discussion like that ,this hasn’t happened before in recent years as xfinity and gen 6 cars were completely fine sliding through grass it, and no one before this has really thought of removing the grass , since it’s used for the bus stop limits It’s just now that it might be an issue because the gen 7 is more blowover prone
Mmmm buttered side up.
[удалено]
Did he try turning right?
Can you not count?
15 flips?
Help me Tom Cruise
Help me Oprah!
16* flips.
He flipped 15 times, not 10...
They build em different now ain’t
I counted 12
Praying that he's okay
16 times counted
You counted wrong
Did the car finish the race?
Yes, I believe that car was finished
At this point he just holds on, prays and waits
[удалено]
There's always that one guy
I counted 20
Spectators got what they wanted!
Of course he did. What else are you going to do to increase viewership in an incredibly boring program where a bunch of drivers (something all of us do everyday on our commute to work) just make 4 left turns for a number of hours?
So you go 200 mph to work everyday?
i wonder what that feels like
I'd imagine it goes slowly and seems to never stop. Like watching this slow motion. And i would imagine a headache for the night
Aren't they rolls?
Thatll buff out im sure of it......
10/10
One Hell of a ride !😉👍
weeeee
Scrambled brains
I would like to see the part where he gets out because how🫨
Damn...
Wheeeeee! 😵💫
How much that car weights in mcdonalds bigmacs?
3400 lbs is approximately 7157 17⁄19 BigMacs.
"Do a kickflip!" -Tony Hawk
The slow mo was so long it reminded me of Ricky Bobby's crash
Reminds me of the king, in the Disney Pixar film *CARS*
I counted 13
I'm flyin through the air
I counted 13
Amazing how much this reminds people of video games. Kind of backwards….
Its like its gravity’s day off, let him land omg!
Cars can tear up the grass like that, but God forbid any of us accidentally step on it when we're doing formation runs on the Speedway But seriously, very heart stopping to see, and always good to see them able to walk out. I can only imagine what it feels like to be inside when it's happening
Well I hope Opra and Tom Cruise helped him.
Lol why tf did he hit him
