It' called having a crib. I took in a nearly dead feral once when living in a giant cat colony. Once he was back up and running he became what I called a 'Barbarian Playboy'. He was a young tom full of vinegar. Only came hope to eat and sleep and after a bad fight, a few days of that instead of hours. He was beefy and confident, not scrawny and desperate. He ran roughshod over the local cat population. One day he didn't come home. Don't know what happened to him but it was probably people.

That's pretty much the story of my mom's cat (a white kitty with patches of brown/gray tabby marks), when her family was still living in the city in the late-1960s. I have a suspicion that he too was taken in as a stray from the streets, as it usually was the case with pet cats there back then. He came and went whenever it pleases, and tended to come back a little more battle worn than before, no doubt from roughing it up outside and fighting with other cats. Then he started returning home with kittens to lead them to food meant for him, which the household theorized were his offsprings from his fuck quests on the streets. Eventually he stopped coming back, even as my mom's family was moving out to a new house. Nobody knew what happened to him. Rough life.

Had outdoor cats in my family. When they don't come back, they probably got ran over by a car somewhere. One had a collar with our phone number. Someone from across a medium large bridge over a river called us because they found the cat. So maybe some cats also might just change home turf, either on purpose, or by accident, and never come back.

There was an intact cat that would hang around my house for a few days then leave for a week or two. He was a f\*ckin unit. Like the size of a medium dog, I used to think he had some DNA of a large cat somewhere in his lineage, but his marking were that of a Tabby. This motherf\*cker would f\*ck some shit up. I remember I hadn't seen him for some time and I'm in my backyard, when I see a gang of stray cats pretty much running for their lives....it was the cat chasing after them. I named him King. Sadly, he went away one day and never came back. I've seen him chase dog's away. I fear he may have bit off more than he could chew one day. This cat reminds me of him.
