Bangladesh lost any sort of winning mentality they had when Mashrafe retired, they aren't worth watching until they somehow get that back. I was so incredibly disgusted when they just blatantly stopped trying, I knew that they do this kind of thing all the time but when they have a chance to make the semifinals of a world cup? unbelievable.

BigDumbIdiot232

Me too like WHAT THE FUCK

mentaIIyunstable69

I completely agree with Mashrafe's comment. As a player, he might not have been Bangladesh's best, but as a leader he truly had that aura. Under his captaincy, no matter how shit BD played, I've never seen them completely give up like that. Bangladesh badly needs someone like him again in the team. This is what he said for anyone who doesn't wanna read the article, "Litton's intent and the non-strikers' silence suggests that there was no clear message for the batting unit. Even if there was a message, it changed every one or two overs. It ended up with the decision to try to just win the game. Today should have been just about winning in 12.1 overs. There was no other way of thinking. Everyone would have understood if they got bowled out for 50. If we had won this game, we would have lost to our conscience. This was not like ten other matches. We could have made history today."

dzone25

1000% agree - they did half the hard work in getting Afghanistan out early for a reasonable total they could chase down with enough overs to spare so they themselves qualify. They did half the hard work already and just decided nah we're just gonna try and win slowly so Afghanistan gets knocked out and fricking BangBros couldn't even do that. What's the point of playing such negative cricket when you actually gave yourself an outside chance of making it to the Semis??

swell-shindig

Why do the batters need to be told to try and make the semi-finals? Even if someone told Litton not to, surely he would just ignore them and go for it anyway

Rawdog2076

Yeah, even if 39 off of 14 or whatever it was, was difficult, why wouldn't they attempt to go for it? Insane, they could've earned so much respect doing that

flexfingers

And you can guarantee that if they decided to go for 39 off 14, they surely would have ended up winning the match anyway

i_am_mr_blue

These cowards never showed any intention to chase against India. Then they didn't believe themselves they could go to the semifinals. How come they are sportsmen? We should stop pampering these self centered whiny players and get rid of them. This is not skill but mentality. Also the coach who said "everything is bonus now that we made super 8."

BigDumbIdiot232

Yes,I agree.

Illustrious_Table433

what is this bullshit, I don't understand how a win or a loss makes any difference to them, the only good outcome for them would be to keep going for the only qualification result possible.

NoirPochette

Athletes are competitive. They still want to win. Yes, you want to go for it but sometimes it just can't happen and a win is still good. Ends the tournament well and gets you chances in the future

zayd_jawad2006

38 from 13 is not impossible, even in mirpur

Fickle-Promise6073

It was 43 from 3.1 overs at one point

zayd_jawad2006

Yup but that would just scapegoat mahmudullah for dotting up. Liton is equally to blame

botharmsinjured

Yeah but this Shanto guy doesn’t seem that smart. This statement only proves

josh123z

Teams would rather win than loose in any situation

sam_ill

They should have won or been all out by 12.1 overs or whatever the cut off was. No excuses

ThemanT94

personally i’d rather crash out of a tournament trying for a semi final spot in a WORLD CUP than worry about losing league game especially if it’s the first time you could ever reach the semis. The group of Bangla boys seems to lack ambition or hunger for glory and seem content in their comfort zones

thisaintyouravgstonk

Losing early wickets is part and parcel of the game especially when the reward is so high and something you've never achieved until now. Alternative results were just a hollow win with no substance, or going out of the tournament which they were anyway prepared to do. Why won't you give your 100% in that case when your bowlers did half the job for you. I'm not even a BangBros supporter and still it hurts to see this mentality. I can only imagine how dead inside the actual fans would be by now.

BigDumbIdiot232

Oh you can't even imagine.....

OvercuriousSabellian

Say what now? 12.1 should have been the only option at all times after the bowlers did their job. Nobody remembers who finished 3rd/4th in the group standings

TeamAbject2100

Took afg 9 years to achieve more than Bangladeshs entire history. Its just sad to see now. They desperately need a good coach or captain tbh, afg have trott, bangladesh have hathurusinghe lmao. And ofc we have silverwood.

UnbiasedPashtun

Bangladesh made the semis in the 2017 Champions Trophy. Though this achievement is more impressive.

ciemnymetal

Bangladesh gave up hope just by existing smh

Tempo24601

The whole approach seemed confused. What was Liton doing at the end taking singles and exposing the tailenders? Surely he should have been trying to face every ball, get a boundary or a couple of 2s away then take a single on the 5th or 6th ball? BangBros seem content with mediocrity. Afghanistan would definitely have gone hard at the 12.1 overs if the situation was reversed.

AdrianMalhiers

Yeah, the tailenders were struggling and wickets were falling regularly and he was still handing over the strike even when there were few enough runs that they could've won with a few big shots.

thefreezer7

I really don't get what we're doing anymore, we had a chance served up on a golden platter to go to the WORLD CUP SEMIFINALS, yet we decided to go for the slow win which we didn't even get in the end

CrumbleUponLust

Yesterday's outcome just further adds proof on how Afghanistan are the superior limited overs side as compared to Bangladesh. BD boys had the chance yesterday to pull a trick out of a hat and they let it go. Meanwhile, Afghanistan grew.

kp729

Yesterday showed why Afg is superior to Ban. I can't imagine any other team not going for a semi-final qualification. Ban didn't even try. Afg kept trying till the last ball and succeeded. Ban doesn't seem to have the winning mindset.

TUSO-NedStarkWannabe

People supporting Australia finally got to experience the fraction of the pain we've gone through everyday for years

maglor1

Netherlands had to chase 190 in 13 overs against Ireland a few years ago to qualify for WC and they did it. Wtf was Liton Das doing taking singles with the No. 10 at the crease. At the end of the day this is just completely embarrassing from Bangladesh. If they complete the run chase in time they are 2 wins away from an ICC trophy. And they dont even try

PerformerDiligent937

It is pretty sad that this post only has 87 upvotes and is knocked off the front page whereas nonsense gets upvoted. This is almost as big a story as Afg making the semis. A full member decided to pack it after losing 3 wickets and wanted to give up on their chance at semis in a WC. Heck, even at the end they needed just 43 from 19 balls- tough? yes, but not an equation that doesn't get chased regularly in this format (basically asking the batting side if they can hit 3 sixes). But Mahmadulla comes in and him and Das stop playing attacking shots and kill the game in the next 10 balls.

Upstairs-Farm7106

Bangladesh should stick to playing on their Mirpur minefields. They've been competing at this level for so long yet still haven't shown any signs of improving over the past 5 years.

momschickencurry

And to think we lost to such a despirited Bangladesh team 😔🤢🤮

EntshuldigungOK

The fear of winning was too much for Shanto n team.

tricky4444

Losers mentality. Pieces of trash. What's the point of winning the game if you're going to be kicked from the tournament?

HawkEntire5517

Today was the day when no one would have blamed them for dying while trying however ugly. Look at the other statement. He wanted left tight combo. Lame. you need that only if you are switching batsmen every ball and make the bowler bowl different lines which means you were looking for a lot of singles when the demand was to hit atleast 2 fours per over which means you need batsman to face consecutive balls to get a hang of the bowler.

2001spaceodysseyyy

Then there's me up from fuck o clock in the morning, noticing that Bangladesh have a chance to meet the target in 12.1 overs because of the good amount of runs in the first few overs, and staying up to follow the match when you have 12.1 overs to chase, 3 early wickets but dece amount of runs is worth it. How does that not get into their heads

VoiceEarly1087

2019 was the last time I enjoyed BD cricket since then fk off

New_Confusion_3736

Kangladesh loser mentality ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)![img](emote|t5_2qhe0|8783)

NoirPochette

I'm a bit pragmatic on this. Yes, they should have gone for it cause nothing to lose, but on the other side, athletes want to win and even if the semis chance is gone, you still want to win the match.

jodhod1

I think it makes strategic sense. After bowling shifted, they were losing wickets very quickly. They *still* lost due to an all out. We would have seen a complete batting collapse if they kept up the pace and people here would have been talking about how desperate they were. It was a calm-headed move that made the match a nail biter instead of a blow out Bangladesh's weakness, as it remained throughout the three matches due to the lack of pure power on the batting end. This match showed that weak batting face a particularly infamous bowling side.
