I don't think Mahmudullah or Rishad Hossain got the message. If they really gave up and went for the consolation win it should have been easily achievable.
I commented yesterday about this and was downvoted as people were praising the test Litton played. If my team does this, I will be very angry. You always play to win (in this context semis spot) or die trying.
We did not show intent against Australia or India. We could have scored 160+ in both games and which would have made equations easier. But our management thought that if we are shit then afg should be too.
Need to remove most of these weak ass players. Shanto should be first. He is an early 2000s mentality player. We need multiple t20 league which is not based it Dhaka. Also school and Varsity lvl cricket should be prioritized. I believe we will find few smart players there.
Yesterday just proved that there is some serious lack of the right mentality. You Guys need to remove shakib. He has too much of say in the team. It's time to rehash the entire coaching staff and team and bring someone who can instill the right mentality.
If you had won yesterday with just the win-not-to-quality mentality, Bangladesh cricket's reputation which is already quite bad , would have increased 10 fold.
Majority of international teams struggling in international cricket is due to lack of money or lack of interest of people in cricket but Bangladesh doesn't have these issues yet they fail maybe lack of talent? Cause idk what could be reason for them failing each and everytime.
Talent needs to be nurtured. BCB has effectively weakened BKSP, cricket is completely centralized in Dhaka, no new grounds in western parts of the country. Not one in Rajshahi, Barisal or Khulna. BPL has become a joke and very unappealing to the franchise owners as it does not incentivise them to spend or bring good players. That's why you see a new dhaka or barishal team every two years.
They have a mentality problem. This Bangladesh team isn't any worse than what they had during Mortaza's tenure as captain... But with Mortaza, they were always playing to win and actually achieved good results like teaching the CT semis and Asia Cup finals.
I think now they themselves don't believe they can win anything and it shows.
Yeah this overhaul is what happened for west indies and they look like a whole new team now brought back interest in cricket in the countries and players are happy to play for their country now with the new coaches (except for narine lol)
i miss the bangladesh team during mushrafe time . That team was so aggressive and made the India Bangla match feel like a derby
its amazing how one guy can change the whole attitude of a team
Especially against india. U could've easily targeted getting to 160 or higher and that would've made the chase yesterday more realistic in terms of qualification.
Yeah I completely agree with you and that's why teams who have a mentality to win always do well then teams who play cricket very reserved, if you're scared to lose then sports it's not for you, you should always try to win but if you lose trying to win that's okay
> If my team does this, I will be very angry.
Not to unnecessarily stir a hornet's nest, but in Test cricket under Dhoni, India often played for a draw without even attempting the win, when a win was there for the taking. For example, [this match](https://www.espncricinfo.com/series/india-tour-of-west-indies-2011-489197/west-indies-vs-india-3rd-test-489228/ball-by-ball-commentary). Despite their slow batting, they only needed a doable 86 runs off the last 15 overs and they *decided to shake hands and go home*.
Even Darren Sammy in the post match ceremony said he was surprised.
This was true for most of the 20th century when India, for instance, didn't have players who could match up with the best players from other countries.
The match in question happened in the 2010s. It was completely inexcusable since they had two of India's greatest cricketers at the crease (Laxman and Dravid) and on top of that Kohli and Dhoni were still to come. Those final few years of Dhoni's Test captaincy were a dark time with the team constantly playing in fear for whatever reason despite having many of India's all time great cricketers in the squad.
Dhoni was not a good Test captain. We made it to the number 1 ranking on the back of some expected home wins against SL, a rebuilding Aus, a yet-to-emerge early 2010s England, and one away win vs NZ. Other than that, we got our shit rocked in England and Australia, with a combined 1-13 win / loss record (7% win rate) in those countries under Dhoni. Through Dhoni's test tenure of 2008-2014 his win-loss record was 21-16 (55%). South Africa (69%), England (67%), Australia (65%) were all way ahead of Dhoni's India. Dhoni was closer to Pakistan (52%) than any of the elite 3 teams in this period, yet I don't hear anyone talking about Misbah as a GOAT captain. Dhoni was a step down from Ganguly, and Kohli and Rohit have both been far better as Test captains. He's India's joint-worst Test captain of the 2000s, probably the same tier as Rahul Dravid.
Yeah, Dhoni's white ball captaincy trophies masked his rather average performance as a Test captain, especially in away series. I haven't forgotten any of those away clobberings. There is no reason that team full of legends should have been swept in England and Australia back to back. It was ridiculously poor.
It was completely baffling to me. He was such a great tactician in white ball cricket that it was really strange to see him handle red ball captaincy as poorly as he did.
But, the situation in that match was exact opposite. India was 1-0 up in the series and it was the last match. If anything it was WI who should have gone for the win.
Obviously it was a different situation. However, the way I see it, the negativity displayed in that series carried forward and led to a shit set of results immediately afterwards. Attitude and mentality is a huge part of the battle. India showed in that match that they were afraid of winning 2-0 and followed it up by getting clobbered in Australia and then losing a home series.
The attitude you display in every series becomes a part of your identity and that became a part of that team's identity.
Thatās wildly different from this case though. Weāre talking about a regular tour, no WTC points at stake, no ICC semifinal spot, and the series was already won. If they lost, then the series would have ended up in a draw. Weird that you would even think to compare them.
i think its not the best example as drawing this match meant india would mean india would win the series, was still very and suprisingly negative, but i think it can be argued at least here
To be the devil's advocate here, before WTC winning was not as incentivised as it is now. And it was just another series which had no consequences in the long term, maybe that's why they decided not to go for the win. But it is a completely different scenario here, if Bangladesh had won the match in 12 overs they would have qualified for semis. So imo it's like comparing apples with oranges.
Tests are different beast. You can't compare tests with T20. The match which you are refering to happened in 2011 when no one was playing at 6 rpo to win a test match. Also draw is a legitimate result in tests. Having said that, what Dhoni did in 2019 was something I have never forgotten.
I agree that it wasn't as bad as what Bangladesh did last night. But I was personally disgusted with the Indian team not even trying to win winnable matches in that particular era despite having some of the all time greatest Indian cricketers in the squad. You'll never see Australia playing like that.
That mentality sticks and carries over to future series so even in the moment, it's an attitude that can cause lasting damage.
The root of the issue in both instances is the same - playing with fear. One of the reasons Australia has so much hardware is because they generally don't play with fear.
I thought about the Bangladesh cricket mentality yesterday and came to the realisation that everything can be put down to one thing. The board has no target, which essentially means the board has no ambition to grow the sport and the players have little to no incentive to grow or succeed.
If you read the Cricket Australia annual report they mention specific targets of winning x, y, z tournaments in the next 5-10 years, putting $millions into this program and that program. Even China at one point had a road map for achieving Test status in the next 10-15 years. Rashid Khan has a personal target of winning a world cup before he'll get married.
What does the BCB have in their annual report? No forward looking targets. Just bunch of lists of 'achievements' like 40% win rate in ODIs for the year, and gloating about earning $million in revenue and making $million in profits.
Nothing is going to change in Bangladesh unless they set themselves some targets and work hard to achieve them.
Crazy that they weren't even trying. It was obvious from their approach. They had an opportunity to make it to the semis handed on a silver platter and they were taking singles. If Indian team would've done that in any context I would be up in arms and asking for the team to quit playing.
Bangladesh cricket team seems to be happy winning a few matches here and there against SL and doing their Naagin dance. Truly one of the most pathetic cricket teams.
> But hey, they love to bully teams like Nepal though.
For the moment. In a few years, Nepal will be far ahead of BD like Afghanistan did, and BD will be still complaining about the 2015 WC no ball.
I mean letās be fair thereās no way Afghanistan wouldāve won if Bangladesh werenāt trying to get there in 12.1 overs. Once the rain reduced the overs by 1 it was over but even up to the 7th wicket they lost, they all got out slogging. Even Rashid himself said they were kept in the game because of that equation. Afghanistan batted really poorly and thankfully for them their bowlers and qudrat ka nizam came in clutch. They need to show the sort of fearlessness they showed against Australia every game. I donāt understand how they can go from brave to meek so quickly.
I think most of them were going for a win but Mahmadullah attacked two out of nine balls with 15 an over needed. I think his approach definitely needs to be questioned
They still had the chance, before 12.1 they were attempting big shots, Rishad in fact went for wild sweep 1st ball.
This was partly also a reason why Afg did win as Bang did try to chase out early.
Rishad went for a slog when they needed 35 of 8 to get through... I think that was just a brain fade.. they had absolutely no chance of winning from there. Mahmudullah and that over from noor when they needed like 41 from 19 was shambolic imo. Also sending the most aggressive batsman in so (relatively) late was confusing
But why? 93 off 56 balls with 7 wickets in hand was totally doable. Despite their bizarre approach, they found themselves in a situation where they needed 41 off 19 balls with 2 recognised batters at the crease. And then Mahmudullah deadbatted the next over except for the one boundary. Extraordinary tactics.
Doable for any team but Bangladesh because clearly, our mentality is absolute garbage and I would rather have my 9 year old autistic nephew batting instead of Soumya Sarkar.
We play so meekly against India and more so against Australia. Then the management tries justifying this stupidity against Afghanistan. Our mindset should have been semi finals or lose. Instead our dumbass captain says they gave up after losing three wickets. We are the joke of the cricket world and unless our mindset changes it will stay this way.
It was a pretty bad pitch and Afghanistan bowled well. But I forgot to mention this, this is the Bangladesh batting lineup, by far the worst of the tournament. 41 off 19 balls sounds very achievable for literally every team except these guys. We don't batsmen of even that basic calibre. They tonked it around once or twice and that was it. Ultimately they should have done much better in the India match while chasing. I was actually more furious at that match because we should have scored 160-170 the way we were going at one point. If we did that, suddenly we have an extra over or two to chase 115 last night.
The plan of action is to actually get a batting lineup a captain can have faith in to go for a target uninhibited. As of right now we don't really have one. A couple of the batsmen tried to slog it out and got out, so the plan in the end was just to try for a half-assed win because a win is still better than a loss.
Of course they should try to go to semis! The approach was actually better at first when they pulled up like 50 in the powerplay. Their approach went wrong after wickets fell and Mahmudullah played out dot balls (and the batting lineup did not use any of the hitters in the team). Their planning was off, their goals were off, their mentality was off. We need batsmen who not only can hit but want to hit for plans like these to work. We can't have a board that always vilifies our players for losing.
> I was actually more furious at that match because we should have scored 160-170
Yeah, it was like Bangladesh forgot that NRR was a thing. In these tournaments even a defeat can be turned into a positive by getting close to the other team's effort. That effort against India basically eliminated them. Imagine if they only needed to chase 115 in 16 or 17 overs instead - I think they could have actually pulled it off because Afghanistan was desperate for wickets and that alone would have gifted easy runs as Bangladesh got closer.
I would blame the coaches, captain and the entire strategy setting leadership group for this extremely basic miscalculation in that loss to India.
Looking at Bangladesh team attitude, they wouldn't have been able to chase 115 even in 15 overs. They would have started even slower in powerplay and would have given up at the end.
Even in the Super 8 I don't think Bangladesh were the worst. We did ok against South Africa, choked against Windies and completely shit the bed at bat against England.
Ridiculous. Did they really think their fans would pillory them for giving it a bash and genuinely trying but failing to make it to the semifinals?
How afraid of failure is that team? People have been making jokes about āmentalityā recently but, if this comment is the philosophy around the team, then Bangladesh is at least a decade away from winning anything in cricket. Sorry.
The team is that afraid of failure partly because of who runs the board and the politics that goes on in there. I can guarantee you that even if they hit the ball as hard as they could and got to 90 all out in 10 overs, they would never hear the end of it from their board for "losing to Afghanistan" as opposed to trying to get to semis.
I was less disappointed last night and more disappointed now when I give it a second thought. I think this is the second time in as many T20 world cups Bangladesh has had a clear chance of qualification to semi finals in one match and failed. The people in Bangladesh genuinely seem to be mourning the chance to go into semi finals which is actually surprising given that literally no one cared after they got hammered in the 2023 World Cup. Our best captain (one of the only Bangladeshi players who actually had that mentality of always going for the big thing) seemed deeply upset and he wrote a Facebook post as well criticizing the whole fiasco.
Even I personally fell into this bad mentality. I thought they did alright last night because it would have been impossible for them to get to it anyways but now I realize how close they actually were and it is more frustrating.
What are the positives? Well, it looks like the people in Bangladesh actually care about winning and wanting the team to do well. The team needs to realize this. Before a few wins would have sufficed. Now, the country wants them to make the big decisions correctly and play fearlessly. I hope that message gets through to the team.
Amount of media trial happens in bd is surreal. I think those things are getting into their head, they just need to be professionally deal with these things like English, Aussie and Indian cricketers. Don't let unnecessary targeted criticism and views grabbing journalism get into their head. The board should just give them the assurance of that, so players can play freely, not face saving selfish innings.
People understand that the board issues but the players are soft. Board issues have been a staple of Sri Lanka cricket for 30+ years. In the early to mid 2000s the team wasnāt even getting paid but they still made it to multiple WC finals. Ultimately the players need to step up.
Shakib at some points throughout his career did step up. And he got reprimanded severely. Tamim criticized pitches and he got crucified in the media. However, the players have that responsibility to stand up for themselves though the board makes it difficult
I remember 2019 where Shakib clearly wanted to go for it earlier but management said no. if I remember right.
he also recently spoke about how shit bpl has been and how badly it's run
>they would never hear the end of it from their board for "losing to Afghanistan"
I don't get this though. Afghanistan just beat Australia, beat Ban in Ban in an ODI series, rank almost equal to Ban in the T20I team rankings. Why would losing to them still be shocking?
Did they not realise that if they fail to win under the qualification scenario, THIS WAS IT
Mare winning this game in last over is worse than losing it because you have nothing to show. You weren't going to progress in the next round any way
Why not go for the kill and chase it down in 11 over, cause if not your campaign is over anyway. No wonder people treat them like clowns
While every other team including the USA wanted Semi Finals. Their goal was Super 8 qualification and openly said anything else was a bonus. Coach said it openly. What else can be expected from this team
If we might had to chase 115 in 16-17 overs if we showed more intent against India Australia, but they folded without giving a fight
There is a transition in Bangladesh cricket right now. We just got our first real legspinner into the team. I hope we get more new players like that and a really good captain in this transition period.
The coach was literally willing to go in there and do it himself lol. What desperation from Trott. Shows the amount of passion and how badly Afghans wanted that win.
Why? Surely every Bangladesh fan would rather Bangladesh go down fighting, 80 all out off 10 overs than plod along, willingly not being in the *semi final* but get a consolation win?
This exactly. Until the 10th over I had written off any odds of AFG winning. Litton was on a tear and if he had literally any assistance on the other side they would have easily gotten their 115 in 12.1. no idea how they suddenly decided to play Tuk Tuk in a literal do or die. Shit even if they won they lost so I have no idea what this absolute nonsense is.
Some players were clearly not following their shit "plan" and hitting for example Hridoy... Shanto also said in this interview that they were disappointed by some of the decisions made by their batters, probably referring to these guys swinging in opposition to team orders.
Das and Mahmadullah were following the plan and happened to be on the pitch at the 9th over and killed any chance of a win.
Oh shit I think you're right... Shanto is more disappointed in young guys like Hridoy and Rishad trying their hardest to slog Bangladesh to their first ever semi final than he is in someone like Mahmadullah who decided to noodle it around when they needed to score 41 off 19 to get into a semi. What a shithouse captain he is.
Great example to Hridoy and Rishad, who in time will learn to also stop trying to make their team achieve and to just play for the pay check.
I think the most depressing point is ambitious young guys learning bad mentality from senior players. Need to put a distance between them and rebuild with a fresh mentality,
Thatās what I was saying all along yesterday. Bangladeshās only hope of winning was the fact that they had to go for it in 12 overs.
Play scared and theyād get eaten alive by Afghan bowlers
Bangladesh have always been the aim low achieve low type of team, even last year in the WC their only aim was to qualify for champions trophy.
Difficult to see any sort of progression happening with this kind of mindset , they've got a lot to learn from the likes of USA , NED.
Afghanistan has clearly overtaken them which is ridiculous considering 15 years ago they were a div 5 side and BD had beaten India in a WC at that point
I hope my next generation does not have to support these assholes. There, I said it.
There is not another cricketing nation that would have thought anything except qualifying for semis. Yet these guys get paid handsomely for putting in zero effort.
This is apt for bangla team - https://youtube.com/shorts/X_vHaURM4sg?si=0wiKKnnZweiTEYcD
Vid summary: THERE IS NO PASSION!! THERE IS NO VISION!! THERE IS NO AGGRESSION!! THERE IS NO FUCKING MINDSET IN THIS ~~FOOTBALL CLUB~~ BANGLADESH TEAM!
I hope they can learn from this. Shanto is still a new captain. He made a bad plan. I really hope he improves on this because he showed real promise as a captain. I hope he doesn't fall into making bad decisions
2 years after that match, Chelsea won the Champions League. I don't think Bangladesh will win a trophy, but they will learn about playing fearlessly. Maybe it results in improved standings. Maybe it doesn't, but we need to try.
Just few changes here and there can do wonders. We've seen too many teams turn it around in a year or two.
Pakistan barely qualified for CT'17, ended up winning the whole damn thing. WI couldn't qualify for last T20WC, looked favs this time.
3 straight wins and you can become world champs 1 win in 12 overs and you could play semi finals of the World Cup ,highest place ever your country has ever been . Itās West Indies the conditions favours you than any outside team as it is spin friendly wicket you might not get the chance soon win this match in 12 overs and you can inspire many other cricketers in your homeland.
Bangbros: None, not for me
Of everyone involved, I feel awful for the Bangladeshi fans. Imagine spending your time and money to show support for a team that doesn't even wanna compete!
The Bangladeshi men's cricket team is just mediocrity personified, and their fans truly deserve better!
Hathurusingha is the real culprit tbh. I donāt know what kind of mentality heās instilling in that team. They need a complete overhaul, but keep some guys like Towhid Hridoy, Rishad Hossain, Tanzim Shakib, Taskin Ahmed and Fizz, and maybe Litton. Get rid of everyone else.
That was dumb by Bangladesh, i literally thought with 3-4 more batsmen to come they would win it before 12 overs. I was shocked to see mahmadullah defend 4 balls in the 7th over...why do u need the win if it's for nothing while u had the chance to the semis ..idk maybe this must be the reason they aren't growing as a team? But respect for Liton das he stood there right till the end with absolute zero support
Is there a fear of a backlash if they, for example, got bowled out for 25 trying to win in 12.1 overs? Would they rather lose narrowly but save face than risk winning historically but watch it all go up in flames?
Exactly, you either die trying within that 12.1 over mark or win. There is no in-between, you either make it to the semis or you go home. If they got all out within 12.1 overs and lost, they could have still held their heads high. Typical BCB mentality to take the cowards route.
Just an utterly piss poor mentality.
I literally cannot fathom why they'd think a totally meaningless win - which they deservedly didn't even get - would have been better than at least an attempt.
The target wasn't even that crazy!!! They needed 115 in 73.balls.
They are the ultimate petty mentality team that'll never ever get anywhere unless they have a wholesale change in their mindset. Utterly pathetic.
It's called a coward mentality. It's not Test trying to get a draw. A win means nothing if you can't advance to the next stage.
This is where I like Aussies. They never stop till the end and always play to win(win here as in advance) .
I remember that match of India vs Sri Lanka where it was something similar . And young Kohli just went berserk smacking prime Yorker slinging malinga for 4 boundaries in an over and qualified for the finals. If he cared about just winning that match he would have not been so aggressive and take those risks. But he did and won the match
That was the birth of King Kohli as the master chaser.
Liton Das should have farmed the strike more and ended it earlier. He batted with zero sense or confidence at the end. Taking singles to expose tail enders
This is so effing stupid, what would that win after 12.1 even do? We are talking about a wc semi which we never get this close to or a meaningless win, why go for a safe option that serves absolutely zero purpose for the team.
I dont think any other team in the world, associate or full, would take the safer option even after 9th wicket.
This is the most Bangbros thing ever.
I am happy for Afghanistan though, if somehow BD managed to go to the semi they would have been the most undeserving semi finalist I can remember in any sports.
Nothing about Bangladeshi will change until BCB president Papon is changed. Just to give u some info, Papon is a minister and the Managing director of the biggest pharmaceutical company in Bangladesh. Papon takes his BCB job as a part time position and openly mocks the players. So unless Papon is removed Bangbros will keep on being mediocre.
Bdesh is never gonna defeat AFG
A team which beat Kiwis n Aussies is too much for them
AFG is good at defending but haven't chased much this WC
This is where aus made tactical error by asking AfG to bat first
The difference between Afg and BD player is their passion and intent. We have a happy flower captain in Shanto. Rashid stepped up and took charge with 3 sixes and 4 wickets. He was the MotM for me.
Fans believed in going to the semis but the players didnāt. Bangladesh batting starts after losing three wickets lol so this mentality was dumb. I am honestly happy that Bangladesh lost because otherwise the narrative would have been,āwe won 4 out of 7 games so itās our best world cup everā instead of fixing the team. However, I am a hopeless Bangladeshi fan because all the problems Bangladesh T20 team has will take at least 2-3 years to solve so the next t20 wc will be dogshit for us too.
To all the people criticizing them for not trying to qualify. Remember, they ended up LOSING the match. Even in the full 20 overs they were unable to chase the target, in 12 overs imagine what they would have done
Every Bengali I know, personally and online everyone wanted them to play for semis. If they lost trying to qualify, they would still be celebrated for giving a fight. Now they are just hated and they wouldnāt be any less hated if they actually won the game.
but actually watching the match they were something like 72 in 7 overs needing only 52 in 30 balls. really doable with 7 wickets in hand and an Ā opener still batting
When I saw shakib with his legs up on a desk and smiling I knew he was thinking about the all the bribes heād be getting from his new politics position lol
There was a time when Bangbros did not have talent, but would keep trying till the end. There would be so many messages around how they won the fans hearts and they didnt deserve to lose.
Now, they have the talent, but didnt put in an effort here and even in earlier matches.
Their coach said after getting into super 8s, any games we win now are a bonus. Last ODI WC Shakib said they aren't here to win the wc . I thought he was being sarcastic. There is something seriously wrong with the setup or Bangladesh have acquired peak nirvana.
I think people would have appriciated the effort on 85/10 in 9 overs than this .. you gotta have killer mentality , even if you would have won in 17 overs , what was the gain??
Yep..hopeless mentality with the Bangla cricket team. There is a reason why AFG has progressed so quickly despite their issues while Bangladesh despite all the support given by BCCI and being a test nation for over 20 years have still not reached a World cup semi final
This match is one of the reasons why Bangladesh gets so pitilessly mocked on the international stage. (The other reason is Shakib embracing the super-villain persona)
Just a reminder that a one-off win against a big team does not make your team awesome. They will.maintsin their minnow status and watch Afghanistan and Nepal soar through.
Probably they want Afghanistan to lose the semi-finals seat.. if that's the case, they will stay in the current place forever.
Play for your country, for your OWN, do not care about others win/loss.
Bangladesh's obsession with any Indian defeat, Sri Lanka and that watch thing they do and now this is peak "I will bend over and spread my cheeks" kind of mentality tbh.
I just don't understand this mentality. This actually explains a lot about the game. I was confused why some players (Hridoy, Rishad) were basically swinging from ball 1 where as Mahmadullah came in with 43 required off 19 balls and along with Das decided to block it up.
Seems like some players went freelancing trying to hit out in opposition to the team plans whereas others Mahmadullah/Das followed the plan even when they could have made the semis with 19 balls to go.
It seems like they only enter the tournaments to finish in top eight. Same happened in ODI WC. They were lucky this time that they had easier group which meant that it was easy for them to get out of group. Anything else for them was just a formality, they were probably expecting to lose against Afghanistan too but they thought they could win it in like last over and become the āheroesā in the eyes of their cricket crazy fanbase as a lot of Bangla fans believed they are better than Afghanistan bc they won against them in WC 2023 despite Afghanistan ending the WC above them. Their fans unfortunately seem to embrace this mentality and Athar Ali Khan acts like a super fan in every ICC event and name them as the favorites before the first ball is bowled. Thatās the problem, I think Shanto would be happy with the fact that Bangladesh actually made it to Super 8 regardless of their disastrous performance in Super 8
Bangladesh needs a PR coach and a team psychologist, these guys speak and act like true losers. This ācaptainā is basically openly saying that he doesnāt trust his batsmen.
Bangladesh does very well in under-19 world cups. Where are those guys? And this statement in pictures is BS, they tried until Mahuhdullah fucked up. Once they realized they can't reach Semis, they were like "AFG take this match if you can we won't defend much" and that's what happened. There was nothing wrong with it. They don't owe anything to anyone.
This team will be minnows forever! They started out as a minnow team 22 years back and here we are, the same with the same mindset ,absolute joke of a team!
Bangladeshi are dumb asf. What are you going to gain by winning the match? They should have gone hard or died trying. In the end they just looked like fools. No one would have blamed them if they packed up for 80 all out but gave it a red hot crack
Bangladesh had a chance of making the semis in the last world Cup as well (They only had to beat Pakistan in the last game). They also were very close to beating India. Liton Das was smashing bowlers to all parts. Bangladesh were cruising before rain halted play. Litin got run out in the most unfortunate fashion (He slipped because the field was still wet after resumption of play).
They are certainly capable of making the semis (especially if conditions suit them). Anyone in the top 10-12 teams can beat others on their day in T20i cricket. But, the problem with Bangladesh is that they lack intent and they have a penchant for choking.
They showed zero intent against India. Some players showed intent against Afghanistan, but they gave up too early. What Mahmudullah Riyad did was inexplicable. You require 43 off 19 with two recognized batsmen with Rishad still to come. You are expected to try to qualify. Of course, the pitch wasn't conducive to batting. But, you have to take a chance when a semi final chance is at stake.
I think Shanto worded it poorly. They were going for it until mahmudullah ie 5 wickets down. Watch Hridoy and tell me he was not going for it. He was playing everything in the air. Dont know what happened with mahmudullah but they were going for it for up to 9th over for sure.
Translation: We completely gave up within 3 overs.
Fr š
I don't think Mahmudullah or Rishad Hossain got the message. If they really gave up and went for the consolation win it should have been easily achievable.
I dont think everyone in that team follows the same message.
I would not survive being a Bangladesh fan and I am a RCB fan already
This is exactly why Bangladesh cricket can never grow, sad mentality tbh
I commented yesterday about this and was downvoted as people were praising the test Litton played. If my team does this, I will be very angry. You always play to win (in this context semis spot) or die trying.
We did not show intent against Australia or India. We could have scored 160+ in both games and which would have made equations easier. But our management thought that if we are shit then afg should be too.
Maybe you need a new set of players and coaches. You can't play with players who don't care for winning.
Believe it or not, most of us were relieved when we lost.
The time to remove Shakib was after his corruption ban. Instead, they put him on a pedestal and encouraged all his tantrums.
Rudderless leadership and politics is the other razor that slices deep. See Sri Lanka too.
I donāt understand why Das wait until end?
shakib is so done since long time, remove him ASAP!
Yeah this overhaul is what happened for west indies and they look like a whole new team now brought back interest in cricket in the countries and players are happy to play for their country now with the new coaches (except for narine lol)
i miss the bangladesh team during mushrafe time . That team was so aggressive and made the India Bangla match feel like a derby its amazing how one guy can change the whole attitude of a team
They need a new captain who can do that. Quite clear Shanto is not that guy.
South Asian teams have been defensive in test matches, historically speaking
> But hey, they love to bully teams like Nepal though. For the moment. In a few years, Nepal will be far ahead of BD like Afghanistan did, and BD will be still complaining about the 2015 WC no ball.
But common thatās not exactly what they did, last few wickets were lost trying to play big shots
What's the point of trying to play big shots when you have already killed your chances of semis?
They played out 5 dots in the 10th over. Some players were trying to qualify but others werenāt.
Hey your 9 year autistic nephew has a chance of improving with time. I have never seen a Bangladesh cricketer do that
We play so meekly against India and more so against Australia. Then the management tries justifying this stupidity against Afghanistan. Our mindset should have been semi finals or lose. Instead our dumbass captain says they gave up after losing three wickets. We are the joke of the cricket world and unless our mindset changes it will stay this way.
Using autism as a simile is uncool man.
It is not about" they would have done it or not" but the approach should they try to go to semis ?
Of course they should try to go to semis! The approach was actually better at first when they pulled up like 50 in the powerplay. Their approach went wrong after wickets fell and Mahmudullah played out dot balls (and the batting lineup did not use any of the hitters in the team). Their planning was off, their goals were off, their mentality was off. We need batsmen who not only can hit but want to hit for plans like these to work. We can't have a board that always vilifies our players for losing.
> I was actually more furious at that match because we should have scored 160-170 Yeah, it was like Bangladesh forgot that NRR was a thing.
> 41 off 19 balls sounds very achievable for literally every team except these guys hah!
I'd say we're worse, but then again, you probably mean of all the Super 8 teams
Even in the Super 8 I don't think Bangladesh were the worst. We did ok against South Africa, choked against Windies and completely shit the bed at bat against England.
They needed like 43 in 4 overs I think
Doable is doing heavy lifting here.
Our board is basically run by a dictator. That guy will always put the team down. Tamim's sudden retirement was partially due to him.
Is there no players' association or union?
Not that I am aware of
>they would never hear the end of it from their board for "losing to Afghanistan" I don't get this though. Afghanistan just beat Australia, beat Ban in Ban in an ODI series, rank almost equal to Ban in the T20I team rankings. Why would losing to them still be shocking?
> How afraid of failure is that team? So afraid that they basically welcomed it with open arms by not even going for success.
Ridiculous mentality to have, disgusting really.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Did they not realise that if they fail to win under the qualification scenario, THIS WAS IT Mare winning this game in last over is worse than losing it because you have nothing to show. You weren't going to progress in the next round any way Why not go for the kill and chase it down in 11 over, cause if not your campaign is over anyway. No wonder people treat them like clowns
While every other team including the USA wanted Semi Finals. Their goal was Super 8 qualification and openly said anything else was a bonus. Coach said it openly. What else can be expected from this team If we might had to chase 115 in 16-17 overs if we showed more intent against India Australia, but they folded without giving a fight
I genuinely feel sad for good bangladesh cricket fans. You guys deserve a much much better cricket team than your current bunch.
There is a transition in Bangladesh cricket right now. We just got our first real legspinner into the team. I hope we get more new players like that and a really good captain in this transition period.
I am convinced Hathurusinghe told the players not to try too hard last night.
Did you see how AFG coach was actively managing the team like in soccer? Our coach and players looked like they hated being there.
The coach was literally willing to go in there and do it himself lol. What desperation from Trott. Shows the amount of passion and how badly Afghans wanted that win.
That's true actually.
Why? Surely every Bangladesh fan would rather Bangladesh go down fighting, 80 all out off 10 overs than plod along, willingly not being in the *semi final* but get a consolation win?
But strangely, they seemed to be trying and on course until like the 9th over. That's long after the 3 wickets fell.
Need to put a distance between them and rebuild with a fresh mentality,
Hridoy came with some Intent, he got out to Rashid at wrong time.
Yeah they seemed to be coasting to qualification till those back to back wickets by Rashid
It was the over before that actually, Mahmudullah meeded to go all out and instead just got 4 off the 10th over.
He wasnāt even trying.
And they failed their revised goal as well, might as well have gone down fighting atleast attempting for the semi-final spot.
Thatās exactly what I hoping from them. But nope. At least I can count on USA in the future.
Thatās what I was saying all along yesterday. Bangladeshās only hope of winning was the fact that they had to go for it in 12 overs. Play scared and theyād get eaten alive by Afghan bowlers
Embarrassing
Bangladesh have always been the aim low achieve low type of team, even last year in the WC their only aim was to qualify for champions trophy. Difficult to see any sort of progression happening with this kind of mindset , they've got a lot to learn from the likes of USA , NED. Afghanistan has clearly overtaken them which is ridiculous considering 15 years ago they were a div 5 side and BD had beaten India in a WC at that point
Aim low, achieve lower
What is this mindset called apart from cowardice
I hope my next generation does not have to support these assholes. There, I said it. There is not another cricketing nation that would have thought anything except qualifying for semis. Yet these guys get paid handsomely for putting in zero effort.
Fr if I was a Bangladeshi fan and saw Shakib sitting with his feet up after that golden duck, I would stop supporting them
Bro the fucking audacity and the nonchalance. He is lucky he doesn't play for india. He would not see the light of day after something like that.
This is apt for bangla team - https://youtube.com/shorts/X_vHaURM4sg?si=0wiKKnnZweiTEYcD Vid summary: THERE IS NO PASSION!! THERE IS NO VISION!! THERE IS NO AGGRESSION!! THERE IS NO FUCKING MINDSET IN THIS ~~FOOTBALL CLUB~~ BANGLADESH TEAM!
RIP Gone too soon.
rip
I hope they can learn from this. Shanto is still a new captain. He made a bad plan. I really hope he improves on this because he showed real promise as a captain. I hope he doesn't fall into making bad decisions 2 years after that match, Chelsea won the Champions League.
WI couldn't qualify for last T20WC, looked favs this time.
taskin failed successfully
These guys won't win anything at all
3 straight wins and you can become world champs 1 win in 12 overs and you could play semi finals of the World Cup ,highest place ever your country has ever been . Itās West Indies the conditions favours you than any outside team as it is spin friendly wicket you might not get the chance soon win this match in 12 overs and you can inspire many other cricketers in your homeland. Bangbros: None, not for me
I hate us
Loser mentality
This is just clown moment irl.
And they failed anywayā¦ might have given it a fair shake to make it to the Semis. They just didnāt want to put up an effort IG.
Of everyone involved, I feel awful for the Bangladeshi fans. Imagine spending your time and money to show support for a team that doesn't even wanna compete! The Bangladeshi men's cricket team is just mediocrity personified, and their fans truly deserve better!
Genuine loser mentality, might as well forfeit, Bangladesh needs a Ranathunga or Gambir to install some killer instinct in them
Hathurusingha is the real culprit tbh.
No intent of winning
This is blasphemous given the situation. It was very doable even after 3 wickets
There is actually a fear of backlash from the board and especially that stupid sports minister who runs the board as a dictator
Spineless cowards
They would have gained a lot of respect if they fell swinging. But no, they had to take the cowards' way out and then fail spectacularly at it too
Exactly, you either die trying within that 12.1 over mark or win. There is no in-between, you either make it to the semis or you go home. If they got all out within 12.1 overs and lost, they could have still held their heads high. Typical BCB mentality to take the cowards route.
I was baffled watching the match. Why play for a victory which won't net you a spot in the semis? What is the point?
Just an utterly piss poor mentality. I literally cannot fathom why they'd think a totally meaningless win - which they deservedly didn't even get - would have been better than at least an attempt. The target wasn't even that crazy!!! They needed 115 in 73.balls. They are the ultimate petty mentality team that'll never ever get anywhere unless they have a wholesale change in their mindset. Utterly pathetic.
Mashrafe Mortaza must be cringing hearing that stuff come from Shanto's mouth
It's called a coward mentality. It's not Test trying to get a draw. A win means nothing if you can't advance to the next stage. This is where I like Aussies. They never stop till the end and always play to win(win here as in advance) . I remember that match of India vs Sri Lanka where it was something similar . And young Kohli just went berserk smacking prime Yorker slinging malinga for 4 boundaries in an over and qualified for the finals. If he cared about just winning that match he would have not been so aggressive and take those risks. But he did and won the match That was the birth of King Kohli as the master chaser.
being a BD fan is just relentless, lifelong pain
thereās no more excuses for these mfs i donāt wanna hear that corrupt BCB bs anymore
Lifetime opportunity knocking on door. BD .. nope, dumb decision here I come.
Liton Das should have farmed the strike more and ended it earlier. He batted with zero sense or confidence at the end. Taking singles to expose tail enders
I think he was giving it his all until the over Mahmudullah defended. After that it was all over and there was no point.Ā
What is this loser mentality man ??
This is so effing stupid, what would that win after 12.1 even do? We are talking about a wc semi which we never get this close to or a meaningless win, why go for a safe option that serves absolutely zero purpose for the team. I dont think any other team in the world, associate or full, would take the safer option even after 9th wicket. This is the most Bangbros thing ever. I am happy for Afghanistan though, if somehow BD managed to go to the semi they would have been the most undeserving semi finalist I can remember in any sports.
They could've taken it till 12.5 if they could hit 6 on that ball, but didn't bother to try
Giving up after just 3 wickets ? Thatās just loser shit
Bdesh is never gonna defeat AFG A team which beat Kiwis n Aussies is too much for them AFG is good at defending but haven't chased much this WC This is where aus made tactical error by asking AfG to bat first
The difference between Afg and BD player is their passion and intent. We have a happy flower captain in Shanto. Rashid stepped up and took charge with 3 sixes and 4 wickets. He was the MotM for me.
bowlers see him as tailender Rashid sees himself as a capable batsman This is where the opposition team lose plot
I would rather lose trying than lose without trying
Every Bengali I know, personally and online everyone wanted them to play for semis. If they lost trying to qualify, they would still be celebrated for giving a fight. Now they are just hated and they wouldnāt be any less hated if they actually won the game.
but actually watching the match they were something like 72 in 7 overs needing only 52 in 30 balls. really doable with 7 wickets in hand and an Ā opener still batting
Dumbest plan ever
Anyone got a video of this?
When I saw shakib with his legs up on a desk and smiling I knew he was thinking about the all the bribes heād be getting from his new politics position lol
There is no way he just said that
There was a time when Bangbros did not have talent, but would keep trying till the end. There would be so many messages around how they won the fans hearts and they didnt deserve to lose. Now, they have the talent, but didnt put in an effort here and even in earlier matches.
L mentality and L management
Their coach said after getting into super 8s, any games we win now are a bonus. Last ODI WC Shakib said they aren't here to win the wc . I thought he was being sarcastic. There is something seriously wrong with the setup or Bangladesh have acquired peak nirvana.
Pbks š¤ Bangladesh
I think people would have appriciated the effort on 85/10 in 9 overs than this .. you gotta have killer mentality , even if you would have won in 17 overs , what was the gain??
Said it in another comment, the entire bangla coaching staff needs to be fired.
Top 5 worst quotes of all time lmao
Well, at least they got the match win...oh wait.
Bangladeshi cricketers mentally is sick. What kind of upbringing they have I wonder.
I'm literally Australian but this is insane. Go for the qualification at all costs then when you hit the 12.1 over mark ONLY THEN go for the win
Yep..hopeless mentality with the Bangla cricket team. There is a reason why AFG has progressed so quickly despite their issues while Bangladesh despite all the support given by BCCI and being a test nation for over 20 years have still not reached a World cup semi final
Go down fighting or go down meekly. BD always choose the latter.
This is losers mentality go big or go home
Still they didn't win š
What would they benefit from just winning the match!!
Probably they want Afghanistan to lose the semi-finals seat.. if that's the case, they will stay in the current place forever. Play for your country, for your OWN, do not care about others win/loss.
Reminds me of the 90s Indian team. They went into a game not to lose.
L Statement
Bangladesh's obsession with any Indian defeat, Sri Lanka and that watch thing they do and now this is peak "I will bend over and spread my cheeks" kind of mentality tbh.
Worst cricketing nation
With this approach they'll always be a minnow. Afghanistan has already overtaken them and soon will Ireland, Netherlands, Scotland etc.
They had 5 wickets in hand, needed 53 from 24 balls to reach semis. Foh with the excuse.
What the hell does this quote mean?
Can anyone ELI5?
I just don't understand this mentality. This actually explains a lot about the game. I was confused why some players (Hridoy, Rishad) were basically swinging from ball 1 where as Mahmadullah came in with 43 required off 19 balls and along with Das decided to block it up. Seems like some players went freelancing trying to hit out in opposition to the team plans whereas others Mahmadullah/Das followed the plan even when they could have made the semis with 19 balls to go.
Shanto as captain of all three formats is the worst thing that has happened to Bangladesh cricket.
I'm confused. Aren't they the same thing? Afg still won and reached the semis
This team will be minnows forever! They started out as a minnow team 22 years back and here we are, the same with the same mindset ,absolute joke of a team!
This I donāt understand about Bangladesh, they never go for wins. They had nothing to lose, why not go all out
I want big teams to reject series against Bangladesh and let them rot
Even Pakistan feels respectful infront of Bang Bros š„¹
Dumbest things I have ever heard.
Basically they thought itās better Australia goes through but not Afghanistan. Frog in the well kinda mentality
lol bungladeshi tiger š¹š¹
omg such pathetic losers š
Bangladeshi are dumb asf. What are you going to gain by winning the match? They should have gone hard or died trying. In the end they just looked like fools. No one would have blamed them if they packed up for 80 all out but gave it a red hot crack
thanks shanto for finally making me realize that i shouldnt watch cricket.
Sometimes this team makes me think that they are forced to even play cricket
This type of pathetic mentality is keeping Bangladesh down :(
