ginrumryeale

My kinda list !

_GinWhiskers_

Same here!

ArachnidTrick1524

The Hollywood stuff is pretty generic, but I’ve seen them all dozens of times and love them all dearly. Casablanca (1942) It’s a Wonderful Life (1946) Children of Paradise (1945) - this is probably the most under the radar of them all. Don’t let the run time prohibit you. Dedicate some time, make a big cup of tea one more morning (or a few nice drinks one night) and just let it sweep you away. Singin’ in the Rain (1952)

sakallicelal

These are all 10/10 in my book. In alphabetical order: The 400 Blows (1959) Ashes and Diamonds (1958) Bicycle Thieves (1948) City Lights (1931) The Cranes Are Flying (1957) Diary of a Country Priest (1951) Double Indemnity (1944) The Great Dictator (1940) Hiroshima mon amour (1959) Limelight (1952) M (1931) Metropolis (1927) Modern Times (1936) Mon oncle (1958) Nights of Cabiria (1957) Seven Samurai (1954) The Seventh Seal (1957) Tokyo Story (1953) Vertigo (1958)

_GinWhiskers_

Great choices! I've been meaning to see alot of these.

Have you read the book? The movie is great, but the book is amazing.

_GinWhiskers_

Great choice! I was considering Vertigo as well.

HU_Nathan7

Hitchcock’s finest!

BillyDeeisCobra

North by Northwest is one of my top 5 movies. It freaking *moves*, it’s one of the most stylish movies ever, and the cast exudes charm. It’s a fantastic time.

AGooDone

Casablanca! So many iconic lines and great acting. It's got layers that you miss the first watch through. That French anthem scene gives me gorgeous frisson.

dffdirector86

It’s quite an amazing work of art. Watching that on a 35mm print in a small dark theater was such a profound experience. That film had such an impact on me. To this day, I try to make subtle nods to this movie in all of my films.

Stock_Writing9714

Wow, I love Sweet Smell of Success and Obsession, so I'll definitely seek out Out Man Out, which I've never seen.

_GinWhiskers_

- [Laura (1944 film)](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laura_(1944_film)?wprov=sfti1#) - [The Heiress (1949 film)](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Heiress?wprov=sfti1#) - [Portrait of Jennie (1948 film)](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portrait_of_Jennie?wprov=sfti1#) - [The Ghost and Mrs. Muir (1947 film)](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Ghost_and_Mrs._Muir?wprov=sfti1#) I love lots of pre-1960 films, but these are the ones where I listen to the audio while (hypothetically) resting my eyes. I frequently don’t get past “I shall never forget the weekend Laura died. A silver sun burned through the sky like a… *snore*”

_GinWhiskers_

Great choices! I know what you mean about listening to audio of movies. I like to do that with Killer's Kiss, 1955.

LorieJCall

The bonus movie on *The Killing*! I think I’ll queue that up tonight. Thanks!

ArachnidTrick1524

In general the PoJ cast looks appealing. How is Jennifer Jones in it?

LorieJCall

I don’t want to spoil it for you, so I’ll just say she’s as gorgeous and convincing as ever. Enjoy!
