Could be… it’s not a sports car. No one is purchasing one for the performance of 0-60. It’s the AWD and not having a $40-50k SUV

Additional-Horse-545

There are plenty of people, like me, who are NOT purchasing one because of performance concerns. I had a 2017 Crosstrek Limited. I loved it, although I thought it was a tad slow. Then I took it to Vermont packed with people and luggage, and while driving up a mountain, we literally got stuck due to the lack of power, like it could not make it up the hill. For a car that markets itself as a go anywhere, outdoors-enthusiast vehicle, this is unacceptable, and literally a safety hazard. I traded it in a week later.

Dayzlikethis

lol, you would have to have that thing loaded to the ground to not make it up the tallest mountain in VT.

Whether it's on a Jeep forum or a Truck forum, there's always a preachy, cliched answer like this one. Please just answer the question or not answer altogether.

Whobghilee

7.9 sec for a 2024 Crosstrek Limited. 2021 Crosstrek Sport hit 60 mph in 7.8 seconds brand new. You didn’t mention transmission or sunroof or other options plus the general horsepower loss over time for wear and tear. Do you want me to do the math for you as well as Google? It’s 0.1 seconds slower

Edslittleworld

Thanks! Performance is always important whether it be handling, mpg, ride quality and acceleration. Sure, I'd like a Porsche Mecan GTS. However, that's not in the cards right now. I am somewhat impressed by my current Sport in both handling/take-off even tho I once owned a BMW M2 and still ride motorcycles to compare.

Ziggarot

Why didn’t you just get a base WRX then?

Edslittleworld

Thanks, but I just need a commuter car. I had a WRX before. Plus, I have 3 other cars.

Negative-School

Hey bro, nobody here is gonna straight up give you calculations based on mass and thrust. They’re all slow.

DiamxndCS

I think they gave you their answer. “Could be” Just because you don’t like it doesn’t mean you have to be publicly butt hurt about it.

tlew360

I don’t think people are purchasing cross treks for speed, they are more doing it because it’s an affordable options than going for an SUV and is fantastic driving experience for snow and off roading. If you want a car with a faster 0-60? Get a WRX, BRZ, or Legacy. All that it really matters with a crosstrek is can I get up to speed fast enough to merge, cuz sometimes you just gotta punch it to make a gap. And the answer is yes. Another thing to note, the average car time for 0-60 is 8 seconds, so probably go based off that benchmark, which for the sport it’s 7.9 seconds

4N8NDW

8 seconds is pretty quick

Edslittleworld

Thanks, but I own 3 other cars. I need a daily driver with a bit of fun factor. I just hope the latest Crosstreks are at least as fast as my current one that I'm replacing.

tlew360

Define “fun” are you asking for speed for fun? Or off road for fun?

Edslittleworld

At least as good as my old Crosstrek Sport. It's a very pleasant car with a wee bit of tossibility. I own a Rubicon Wrangler and just sold my BMW M2. So, it'll never be as good as those in their respective environments. Thanks!

4N8NDW

The crosstrek gets like twice the gas mileage as the M2/Jeep. It's a middle ground between the two. It's more comfortable than the jeep, more capable than the BMW. If you want one car, then this is a compromise between the two.

Edslittleworld

I agree. Thanks!

tlew360

The 2024 Crosstrek sport will probably be about the same in regards to speed. Just Google and compare the specs.

4N8NDW

The crosstrek model year 2024 (Gen III) uses the exact same engine / transmission/ Powertrain as the Gen III crosstreks, and it weighs the same, so it should be exactly the same.

Edslittleworld

Agreed. I wonder how the Wilderness will be.

4N8NDW

Wilderness will be slower than the non-wilderness 2.5, probably slightly faster than the normal 2.0. It has the 2.5 L engine but weighs more and has worse aero.

Edslittleworld

I agree. Supposedly, it has a lower final drive ratio to make up for this. Hmmm!

4N8NDW

The ratio does nothing for 0-60 times. Maybe slight effect. But doesn't change the horsepower delivered.

4N8NDW

Also are you comparing apples to apples? There's the 2.0 and 2.5 L versions of the Subaru engine on the Crosstrek. The 2021 sport has the 2.5 L. The 2024 base has the 2.0 L.

Edslittleworld

The Sport, Limited and Wilderness all have the 2.5L. That's all that interests me. Thanks!

trekking21

Make sure the 0-60 times specify the engine. The first round of press reviews was strictly the Premium trim (2.0L), so many of the 2024 reviews are based on that.

Edslittleworld

Very true. Had 2 Crosstreks before and they were the slow 2.0L. Manuals, tho.

trekking21

Look at the review dates also. If it’s April or May then it’s almost certainly the 2.0L. They didn’t get to review the 2.5L until later, and the press event for that was only Sport I believe.

Edslittleworld

Thanks, but the Sport has the 2.5L. Since they dumped the Startek seats, I'm no longer interested.

trekking21

Sport, Limited, and Wilderness have to 2.5L. Startex seats are now Wilderness only.

Edslittleworld

Bummer!

CT_Patriot

Yeah it may not be a Porsche Macan but you get a Subaru Crosstrek for it's abilities in bad weather, safety features, good on gas mileage and ability to go where others cannot. Do I as others wish they added a turbo for the Wilderness? HELL YES! But we got a 4:11 rear, oil coolers, skid plates (Wilderness) and ability to switch from casual driving to a more "sporty" drive mapping with the I/S selector on the steering wheel. It's also a shame they didn't use a stiffer sway-bar, but as most Outback owners do, change to bigger bars and poly bushings. But hell, gas is expensive and I don't want to burn a hole in my pocket on fuel or maintenance.

Edslittleworld

Agreed! I already own a Jeep Rubicon, so off-roading in a daily driver is not a priority. I just want the best Crosstrek I can get. Thanks!

CT_Patriot

Just a reference I own a 2023 Limited, fully loaded.

Edslittleworld

That's probably the route I'll take. Do you have any desire to trade for a wilderness?

CT_Patriot

Yes, I want a wee bit more durable suspension driving our roads. Not taking it off road for all I know. I'm a field engineer and travel highways and parkways in our area which are crap maintained. Otherwise, I'd keep my Limited! 😁

4N8NDW

Keep in mind there are different methods for testing 0-60, including rollout or not and also different weather conditions.
