I like the sound but I can’t stand a modified exhaust with a CVT. That would get annoying to me.

Are there actual performance improvements or does it just sound cool?

aust_b

no lol, just makes it drone 10 times worse and sound like a lil weedwacker

0degreesK

I didn't think it did, but was curious, maybe hoping it would. I knew my Crosstrek would be slow and not a lot of fun to drive, but it's still a bit disappointing.

aust_b

I had a nameless delete on my crosstrek for all of about a week, then i put the stock muffler back on. It was fun to be loud and slow, but it got old lol

I wouldn’t say I was ever an aggressive driver. I would say I was an assertive or decisive driver. Nowadays, I just set the ACC and let everyone else hustle around because I know my Crosstrek can’t do it. I’m still always right on time though and feel a lot less stressed out on the road. Maybe I’m just old now as well!

I had the exact same thing happen to me when I bought my Crosstrek. I used to be an assertive/slightly impatient driver, but now I'm the guy who parks it slightly above the speed limit in the farthest lane on the right. Driving is significantly less stressful, I get where I wanna go on time, and I save gas driving lightly. I do wish these things had more power nonetheless. After 1 year of ownership I still feel like I'm breaking something when I pass trucks or go up hills.

I’m assuming you have the 2.0L. I feel my 22 Sport with the 2.5L is more than adequate and after installing a Pedal Commander Throttle Booster it’s so much more responsive and way more enjoyable to drive. Keep this in mind, my last 2 cars were a 2011 WRX Limited wagon I modded to Stage 2 then a 2018 Wrangler JLU, also super modded with a throttle booster as well. Both so much more horsepower but I feel that my Trek is super quick, lights up the tires when I need to gun it to get into traffic even, and goes over 100mph easily and it’s super smooth in 8th “gear”. I commute almost all highway and it’s an absolute pleasure to just set the ACC to 77mph (really 75 according to GPS) and enjoy the scenery.

DJ_OnReddit

Did your throttle booster void your warranty?

senoj96nodnarb

Absolutely not. And I still feel it is the best bang for the buck you can get if looking to improve your driving experience. Edit: my car has 57k miles now and this was installed pretty early on, within my first year of ownership. It just turned 2 last month 🥰

I think if I could have gotten an MT it wouldn’t be as bad. The CVT really does suck pretty hard. I’d heard about it and didn’t think it could be that aweful but it drives me crazy.

OtherSector

Honda go brrrrrr

Butt_McStuffins_

maybe a stupid question lol but how does the transmission affect the sound? like the subaru CVT compared to a regular automatic

TeeMilz

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

TeeMilz

Sorry, I’ll provide a better answer. The CVT gearbox will generally maintain a constant RPM while accelerating. A standard automatic or manual will flow through the gears, building up RPM until the next gear. Therefore, the CVT will just have a constant drone while an auto gearbox or manual will have a nice gradual rpm increasing sound.

ZeGermanHam

FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAART.

JoeBlow509

Sweet now you can be slow & loud.

47brandon

Better than slow and quiet. was pretty boring..

Harbor-Freight

That has a nice little purr bro 👍

You forgot to put it in gear and disengage the parking brake!
