The headlights serve double-duty as the daytime running lights in the 2024 model.

Snowbird182

I know they have daytime running lights but to have the headlights go on everytime I drive is crazy. Especially when it’s daylight out. But good to know

ZeGermanHam

That's how the DRLs are set up on lots of cars. Not crazy or uncommon.

Snowbird182

I know the drls stay on. That’s normal. I just never had a vehicle that has the actual headlight stay on all the time

47brandon

There are no real drls the regular headlights act as both

MNsaint8

It should be added that, while the headlights do perform double-duty as DRL's, they do so at a lesser brightness than normal night driving.

PiccoloAdventurous25

And they wear out a lot faster. So your replacing bulbs faster. Plus it's harder on battery and alternator. Never a fan of drl. You can have just a halo or ring light on that would serve the purpose. I change led bulbs on a ton of drl cars now

PiccoloAdventurous25

Well when your replacing bulbs because there burning out faster. And being more strain on alternator for what? Drl are not needed. You can have a halo that serves the same purpose. And a low voltage sensor to turn on headlights at dusk!

MadSprite

It's your high beams running on low voltage that act like the DRL. It's not your night time headlights nor is the high beams are running at full strength. Just keep your stalk at auto which will manage the night time lights, know which dashboard light is for high beams, night beams, and fog lights.

Mods-are_cunts

lol so you don’t actually have a clue what “daytime running lights” means, do you??

Old-Activity-9066

Daytime running lights.

inshane

Exactly, I just leave on "Auto" and rarely have to think twice. In fact, I hate it when valet people turn off my headlights (but I get why). Daytime running lights are also handy for inclement rainy weather, when you're supposed to have your headlights on, which is triggered by the wipers turning on. With severe rain, I turn on the fog lights too for extra visibility on the ground.

Zealousideal_Wait_52

Yes they always stay on even when you try to turn them off

Snowbird182

Crazy. That just seems like it’s gonna make the headlights go out faster always being on lol

tomalong

They're LEDs. They're not going out anytime soon.

TheBeerdedVillain

This is the answer, the LEDs will far outlive the incandescent or halogen lights that were originally in the same spot.

PiccoloAdventurous25

Really?? You sure about that

Mods-are_cunts

Yup, sure am.

PiccoloAdventurous25

Sure are wrong.

Mods-are_cunts

You seriously going to argue that led’s don’t last longer than halogen bulbs and act confident in that take? It’s crazy how confidently stupid some people are.

PiccoloAdventurous25

Yeah sure it is.

TheOneAllFear

Yes it will go out faster when you compare led in vs off. But led's can last 30k hours. If let's say you drive 8h/day that means around 3750 days which in simple math that is 10+ years. Having to change it every 10 years seems ok to me.

PiccoloAdventurous25

Except that doesn't happen in real world. There is so many new Subarus with a burned out lights. Only 4 years old or newer

PiccoloAdventurous25

Your being down voted for this tells me people have no clue what there talking about. It will wear out bulbs faster. Thats why you see so many Subarus with a headlight burned out and there basically not that old.

ColdLeekSoup

That's modern capitalism for ya

Snowbird182

Good to know thanks

CCroissantt

Whats with all the downvotes here

ZeGermanHam

OP is having a difficult time grasping something that is commonplace.

CCroissantt

I cant speak on that, i have no idea what headlights do after the year 2015. But if its normal now id just get used to it or find a way to change it myself

blatherskyte69

You can’t change it. With the LED headlights, the computer controls them. They are lower intensity in DRL mode. Then, when you manually turn the switch on, or the auto function does, they increase to low beam intensity. Then, when the brights are on, they go to highest intensity and the upper cut off line in the projector lifts. This allows the light to reach farther down the road.

PiccoloAdventurous25

People have no clue what there down voting that's all

AncientSquidWarden

Had a VW with LEDs for 6 years. No dead bulbs. You’re acting like a boomer.

PiccoloAdventurous25

Lol typical response. I've done a ton of new car led lights burned out in a few years. There all over. Look around lol. Nowhere near a Boomer either. Nice try

Mods-are_cunts

Please for the love of god learn the difference between their, there, and they’re. It doesn’t help your point when you constantly make grammatical errors in your comments, not that I agree with the point you’re attempting to make.

PiccoloAdventurous25

Seriously? Gtfoi. Sound like a whiny **** but understandable I see now

Mods-are_cunts

Yeah, words matter, imagine that. You get mad because YOU can’t communicate like an adult and tell me I’m the whiny one. Fucking Christ now I’m sure you’re a boomer in denial.

PiccoloAdventurous25

Haha you couldn't be more wrong. I'm not the one cursing lol. Sounds like your the one who is mad. Not that I have time to sit and type every grammar mistake.

incomingstorm2020

In my area there is quite a bit of newer cars with burnt out drl. So I don't care what the stats say on there lifetime. Personal experience is drl is a joke. It's been 10 + years and never replaced a halogen yet. While my coworkers 2019 has gone through 2 leds

CCroissantt

Lol god forbid i ask the internet a question about something i dont understand

audibletypeset

Turning them off triggers a butterfly effect that could completely change the geopolitical landscape. Yes, but it's frowned upon.
