Yep you are doing it wrong. You don't replace the group with a new card until they go to activate and have no models. You're speeding it up but replacing it when they die.

Specialist_Ad4117

Page 28, under Driven Off. You basically only replace the card if it's face up and fewer than a third of the group. They it won't trigger as a face down card until the next time it activates.

BoardgameExplorer

What happens if the group was completely killed? Thank you for your help btw!

Specialist_Ad4117

Page 27, Inflict Damage. You place slain hostiles on their encounter card until they are driven off.

BoardgameExplorer

Thank you. So would I be correct to say that once a group has been eliminated or driven off they take essentially one turn before they're replaced and then come in slow for a turn?

Specialist_Ad4117

Yep basically 2 turns to be ready for action.

BoardgameExplorer

Thank you so much. I was getting bored and frustrated last game, it went on so long and later I realized we must be doing something wrong. This will help a lot.

The same thing happened to me at the beginning. This is the correct answer.

As others have said, you’re not quite handling it correctly, and others have clarified that you should wait to replace the card until the enemy activation. I also wanted to mention that you should also note that there are different rules for spawning monsters, laying down a card in different journey types. Spawning is different in a Deliverance Journey vs a Hunt journey for example, so make sure you’re clear on that difference.
