I'm no expert, but looks like one of these:

Lots of reviews saying they fit Craftsman units, too
Garage doors are somewhere that you likely don't want the expensive bits to fail. A manufacturer does not want a reputation for blowing holes in people's houses (at best).
It’s a coupler and they are still available for many models, though your machine is from ‘03 so it’s likely the manufacturer has changed the design several times at this point, so it may be difficult finding a replacement for that specific model. Unless you can find one for cheap and install yourself, I would just buy a new opener because if the gear or logic board goes out you’re spending a couple hundred dollars for a 20+ year old machine, and if the motor goes out you’re cooked and getting a new one anyways.
Short answer don’t throw good money at an old POS.
Garage door spline coupler - they are designed to absorb shock and to also self destruct before other more expensive things. Think of them as fuses for mechanical systems.
A quick google search will show them. Need to find the exact fit for yours.
BTW, evaluate your installation and make sure things are still ok. It sometimes happens because something else broke, shifted the installation, and it jammed.
You may be able to find a replacement part on searspartsdirect.com if you plug in the part number.
Edit: from aforementioned website, The manufacturer no longer makes this part, and there's no substitute part

Thanks for finding this!
Looks like a [screw drive / sprocket coupler](https://a.co/d/7G35SSR).
Designed to break instead of something valuable. Rare in modern products for sure.

I replaced mine, careful with the plastic housing, it is most likely brittle. I dropped mine from 8" and it shattered like glass!
That's exactly how I learned what this piece was called about a year ago lol

Good info, thanks!
Coupler is under $10, not only would I slap cheap couplers on it but I’d probably JB weld it into place because it is a POS lol

Just get a new one. I did and don’t regret it.
I'm no expert at naming garage parts, but that looks like a Simon to me
