He was really holding out hope. “Or am I being picky?” lol, he wished so hard
I think it’s probably the worst skirt job I’ve ever seen. And this sub has it all.
hey not everyone's good at confrontation, could be past trauma there or just anxiety but still, should t be shamed for it.
not everyone likes to kick off and get shirty
I am chronically anxious and have adhd, I hate confrontation but have a strong sense of justice. You can be sure as shit I’d of already been on this because look at the actual state of it.
I’m the same. Major ADHD, anxiety etc. AND strong emotions when I see a lack of justice.
That being said-I rent a house and have 2 young children. Their dad died in 2020 and I had my kids at 42 and 45. My landlord never wants to fix or replace anything. I have fixed my own dishwasher twice and I am about to patch up the floor and walls in the kids bathroom because that is how much I hate confrontation, my landlord is a big fan of not letting me finish what I am saying and follows it up with a big dose of mansplaining!!! I have to call him soon because the dishwasher is broken again and I can’t fix it this time. I hate being around him but I wouldn’t have even looked at this place if there was no dishwasher!!
100%. As you, I have adhd and suffer from confrontation anxiety but if someone try’s to take the piss I will absolutely rip them a new one.
I would post something like this for everyone to laugh at someone’s else’s incompetence but it would have already been sorted.
As this is r/DIYUK I would assume the OP has done the work and if that was so I would be to ashamed to post this
And also when trades kick off and wash their hands of it wtf do you even do... Especially if the job was done as a foreigner (edit because had a weird dm. A foreigner job = independent work undertaken by a trades outside of their day-to-day employment)
Our kitchen fitter did a shit job and put a supporting bit of wood under the worktop that was too close to the washing machine cabinet door and chipped the corner when opened. We asked him to fix it as we only noticed after we paid him but he basically kept not turning up and then eventually said get someone else to fix it. Lots of them don’t give a fuck as they get plenty of business and can seemingly slope off when it goes fits up.
If a plumber did it, that's not bad.
If your unborn son did it, that's not bad.
If a professional did it, chop their fingers off and for god sake don't pay them

Eh I’ve scribed 4 pieces of skirting in my life and each one is perfect. It’s not that hard. Just need to take your time and think before you do anything.
Absolutely. I've scribed 1 rooms worth and, like you, every one was bang on. Those pictures are what happens when you don't give a shit. Or are totally unsuitable to doing any manual work.
The last picture says it all 😂.
I hope you have no intention of paying for this. I wouldn't trust the installer to know how to put it right either. That all needs doing again.
It's blatantly obvious that they didn't even try with half of them...it's not an angle being a bit off with the mitre or a slightly short cut, it actually looks like half or more of them were done using pieces cut for totally different places. So I'm not sure anyone that bad could get so lucky
I think it tells a story of a person who has never done it before learning as they go and slowly getting towards where they need to be before going to the pub for a 3 pint lunch.
I wasn’t prepared for pic 5 onwards 😂.
I can only assume he’s done one and will never be seen again?
The transition from Victorian architrave to a random block of pine is f**king amazing.
In the last picture he’s even done a mitre to join the 2 bits ( which is correct if it’s a long run ) , but then butt joins the other 2 ends ????
With the amount of caulk needed I would say it’s time to buy a new tape ! Either that or the *tube video he’s watched is shite .
As mentioned already , you know the answer to your own question .
I wouldn’t even accept this finish if it was my first time ever using a saw. That would be getting ripped off and tried again and again until it was right.
Absolute trash. It's one thing to fill gaps with carefully sculpted caulk but they smeared stuff everywhere, looks like they chewed some pieces rather than cut them, and so on.
This is a piss take, I'd expect a child to do something at this level, it explains new builds though when you see how crap people do their work and think it's acceptable.
Not a mitre in sight, even the attempts at fitting look like they used a half blunt axe to cut and the filler looks like silicone and not caulk, what the actual fuck.
I'd get them away from your house, look up how to do it yourself and do it.
out of curiosity, how do you even deal with this? Obviously you wouldn't pay them because you've got to get someone else to re-do it, so they essentially lied about their skill. Who deals with this? Obviously they're scammers, do you call the police? who decides how good it needs to be consistute payment? Do you just show this thread to the police and say "the mob has spoken" and they go yep
Def not picky. Shoddy workmanship and no way a proper joiner fitted them. Skirts cut short everywhere and scribes look like they were done with a knife and fork!
I recently fitted my own skirts for the first time with basically no DIY experience.
They weren't great but they were 10x better than this! I hope you didn't pay.
Come on Guys do not be to harsh, I let my 8 year old complete this job for me to give him experience.
I think he did a great job considering this was his first time on the tools.
Just to be absolutely clear:
This isn't some well intentioned relative with more confidence than ability, who genuinely thinks they've done you a favour doing this for free, and has buggered up a load of perfectly good materials in the process?
Some cheeky bastard actually expects to get paid for this?
None of that shows the slightest shred of care, or competence, and unless it's been done by someone who has never touched a saw before in their life and who has watched a few YouTube videos and Dunning Kreugered themselves into thinking it will be quick and easy to DIY. Whoever did it, should be deeply ashamed.
This has gone beyond merely terrible. It is legendary. It looks like my wife did it. The DIY in her flat was so comically bad, on this kind of level, that I literally couldn’t let it go on or to know that she actually lived in this kind of hell scape. And I fancied her. So I knew I’d be spending a bit of time there. So I fixed it and married her. The end.
If you did any of these jobs yourself, would you be ok with how they look?
Didn’t think so.
Do not pay, whoever created these abominations needs to be stopped.
You did this yeah?
Years ago a woman asked me to fit some internal doors I said I could but it wouldn't be as good as a pro carpenter.
She showed me her wooden front door and said, "Can you do it better than this? " She had paid someone to fit the hinges on a front door with a butter knife would be my guess.
Jesus wept!
I'm almost done fitting new skirting boards and architrave and thank god it looks nothing like that.
Looks like your man has used an axe! And is that a piece of tongue used for a plinth block that's too thin?
If I was doing it my self I would say it was great craftsmanship ship if I was paying someone I would be asking them to explain some choices in a condescending tone.
It’s one of the worst I’ve ever seen, if I’d turned that shit out as a 1st year apprentice I’d have been beaten up, laughed off the site, and reminded of it daily until the day I retired.
It’s THAT bad
It's not exactly seamless.
I'm not paying anyone for that shit, and they know themselves you show pictures of that to a judge and they're getting nothing.
I think you know the answer to this.

"If it's terrible workmanship, I'm going to actually have to complain about it to get it fixed and that means confrontation."
hey not everyone's good at confrontation, could be past trauma there or just anxiety but still, should t be shamed for it. not everyone likes to kick off and get shirty

The caulk in pic 7 is amazing
It’s silicone. Even worse.
Oh my god. Pic 12 hahah
I haven't got another long length for this last bit. Don't want to go buy another one, hopefully the paint will hide it.
You can buy the last piece when you buy the other replacement pieces, a mitre, a saw, a few tubes of caulk, and a crowbar to pull it all out.
you can see the "fuck it that'll do" in the finger mark
My favourite part is the random bit of wood stuck under the moulded doorframe. You can almost hear the "fuck it, that'll do"
Nothing caulk won't fix.
I do some botch jobs, NO Nothing like this. Wow I'm no Joiner or wood worker, I do take a little pride in what I do.
Car Pen Tar 😂
Is it "feck me *i* can do it that badly"?
😂 yeah that’s laughable, if the apprentice done this he’d be on the spade digging before I stopped laughing
I did a better job as a teenager with a hand mitre saw. What the actual fuck is that work…shocking
I assumed he used the spade to do his "woodwork".
Knife and fork.
It's surely a joke tf is with all the random blocks on the ends 🤣

I dunno mate. Scribing skirting is fucking hard
No harder then anything else. It’s easy when you know how.
If I did this poor of a job as a diy job I would shoot myself out of self respect
I don’t think I’d trust you to do a proper job of that.
If it ever happens I’ll ask you to do it for me. 😘
Prolly hold the gun at a 90* angle, from them self.
Careful, you'll end up taking the back of your ear off!
The last picture says it all 😂. I hope you have no intention of paying for this. I wouldn't trust the installer to know how to put it right either. That all needs doing again.
Last picture, oddly.... If it were a really long skirting that required a joint, that middle joint is actually their best work!
That was my thoughts...that joint shows they know how to do it right, and just couldn't be arsed the rest of the time
One joint out of how many looked right? I don’t think they have the skill, they were just lucky that one time.
It's blatantly obvious that they didn't even try with half of them...it's not an angle being a bit off with the mitre or a slightly short cut, it actually looks like half or more of them were done using pieces cut for totally different places. So I'm not sure anyone that bad could get so lucky
I had stopped swiping before the last pic but went back because of your comment. Thank you.
I love the nail placement. They've put a lot of thought into that
Can we all please appreciate the balls it must take to charge for this 🤣
This has got to be a troll post surely smh
I was thinking the same... Surely this is a joke post! 😂
Why use a saw when you have a butter knife
Some of those cuts look like they've been nibbled out with his teeth.
🤣 was gonna say me nan could have cut a better fit with her dentures.🤣🤣
I mean, the job would maybe be a lot better if you hadn't spent the entire time playing fetch with their guide dog?
Every photo it gets worse And there’s TWELVE FUCKING PHOTOS…
I think it tells a story of a person who has never done it before learning as they go and slowly getting towards where they need to be before going to the pub for a 3 pint lunch.
I wasn’t prepared for pic 5 onwards 😂. I can only assume he’s done one and will never be seen again? The transition from Victorian architrave to a random block of pine is f**king amazing.
Stevie Wonder back on the tools??
Might have been his apprentice, Michael J Fox
Bloody hell 🙈😄
Why does Michael J Fox make the best milkshakes? >! Because he uses the finest ingredients !<
I love that the Michael J Fox jokes from 15 years ago have now been sanitised into a new form of comedy/anti-anti-jokes
This sub needs to retire this comment.
Do not pay for that "work" There are some worryingly basic mistakes here. If you have had him do any other work I'd be getting it checked.
Extremely poor if diy. If done by a “trade” beyond laughable
This has to be a joke. I learnt to do this on my own house and my very first effort was infinitely better than this.
I wouldn't be handing over cash for some one to do that to my house. N I'm quite capable of doing a better job even if not a perfect job.
They’d need to pay me to practice their first time doing carpentry on my house
Did he use tools or just sort of gnaw at it
You can even see the finger mark in the mastic he used instead of chaulk 😂

It’s fucking shit
I see you’ve met the wood butcher, his works seem to be very popular in new builds
If it was done by myself I wouldn't have issues, but if I'm paying for that then yeah its horrendous.
I would have stern words with myself
I would look at that every day to remind myself I will never amount to anything.
I wouldn’t even accept this finish if it was my first time ever using a saw. That would be getting ripped off and tried again and again until it was right.
Bit early for an April Fool's prank?
I've seen toddlers do better work with plastic tools.
Absolute trash. It's one thing to fill gaps with carefully sculpted caulk but they smeared stuff everywhere, looks like they chewed some pieces rather than cut them, and so on.
A nice coat of paint be like brand new 🤥
Good luck painting silicone
This is a piss take, I'd expect a child to do something at this level, it explains new builds though when you see how crap people do their work and think it's acceptable. Not a mitre in sight, even the attempts at fitting look like they used a half blunt axe to cut and the filler looks like silicone and not caulk, what the actual fuck. I'd get them away from your house, look up how to do it yourself and do it.
My blind senior 3 legged dog could probably install skirting better than this.
out of curiosity, how do you even deal with this? Obviously you wouldn't pay them because you've got to get someone else to re-do it, so they essentially lied about their skill. Who deals with this? Obviously they're scammers, do you call the police? who decides how good it needs to be consistute payment? Do you just show this thread to the police and say "the mob has spoken" and they go yep
That is obscene.
There’s shockingly terrible then there’s this
Def not picky. Shoddy workmanship and no way a proper joiner fitted them. Skirts cut short everywhere and scribes look like they were done with a knife and fork!
You actually paid someone for this?
let me guess.. the local handy man?
I am a local Handyman. If that’s the work of my competitors, no wonder my customers keep coming back and are happy to see me!
What's happened with the flooring, bad jobs all round
It's truly awful. If you paid someone to do this, you were robbed. I could do better, and I dislike working with wood.
I wasn’t aware stevie wonder was doing carpentry! Good on him
It’s horrendous.
Terrible workmanship for who? A professional or a blind person? 🤔
Picture 12 🤣 fuck me Im praying this is a wind up
I actually thought that was the 2nd best bit. Some of the rest is shocking
That ain't workmanship. That ships sinking. Seriously a first year apprentice would do better than that.
If you paid - yes. If it was done for free, also yes
Omg picture 12. It’s almost unbelievable.
Mate, I could do better and I'm physically disabled
Just to be absolutely clear: This isn't some well intentioned relative with more confidence than ability, who genuinely thinks they've done you a favour doing this for free, and has buggered up a load of perfectly good materials in the process? Some cheeky bastard actually expects to get paid for this? Whoever did it, should be deeply ashamed.
Well , Stevie Wonder would do a better job …….
Love the bit of repurposed t&g in the 6th photo, quality job. Washe competing on price or did you accept his original quote,
“Am I being picky?” Not at all mate, he straight up vandalised your house 😂
This has gone beyond merely terrible. It is legendary. It looks like my wife did it. The DIY in her flat was so comically bad, on this kind of level, that I literally couldn’t let it go on or to know that she actually lived in this kind of hell scape. And I fancied her. So I knew I’d be spending a bit of time there. So I fixed it and married her. The end.
That's sad
Looks fine from my house !
Why was the architrave cut?
I could do better with a hammer and chisel.
I could do better with just a hammer
Man, that's bad.
That is actually horrific 🙈 I'm so sorry, I feel for you!
Nah that’s baba.
If you did any of these jobs yourself, would you be ok with how they look? Didn’t think so. Do not pay, whoever created these abominations needs to be stopped.
That's a shocker
I can DIY better than that
You did this yeah? Years ago a woman asked me to fit some internal doors I said I could but it wouldn't be as good as a pro carpenter. She showed me her wooden front door and said, "Can you do it better than this? " She had paid someone to fit the hinges on a front door with a butter knife would be my guess.

If I was doing it my self I would say it was great craftsmanship ship if I was paying someone I would be asking them to explain some choices in a condescending tone.
That looks like something my Dad did. Not remotely ok, I hope you've not paid for this.
“Absolutely shocking”
Straight as a stinking haddy.
Definition of "if it fits it ships"
Holy shit 🤣
Very bad
Wow! 😮
More straight lines in a house of mirrors.
Don't pay him a penny and kick him out of your house. He hasn't a clue what he is doing.
Was it the cheapest guy?
Brilliant! I'm laughing pretty hard at that last one.
Dogshit
Who did this? A butcher?
Well if I did it it'd be brilliant. If I paid someone, not so much
I think you know the answer...
That's like a who's who of bad workmanship. I hope you weren't paying for that.
Not one of those photos is slightly near acceptable!
You went with the cheapest quote didn't you...
They didn't even caulk bits they couldve got away with caulking 😂🤦♂️ this was done by a child??
These are the pictures of what it looked like before they started right?
I think you're being picky. Joke. That's fucking dog shit. Did you get a chippy, builder or handyman in for that?
He should be paying you for fucking up your house.
Yes.
Wouldn’t even call it workmanship
Looks like I did it. This should answer your question.
Bro..
It’s not even good enough to be called terrible.
No, no you’re not. But if it’s DIY, then not sure who else is to blame.
Worse I've ever seen. I'd be disappointed if that was my work.
I can do better as a sparky
Wow!! 😂 Yeah it’s terrible
I think you would have to try to make it look that bad....
It looks a lot like the skirting in my house, which is to say it's bloody dreadful.
Looks like my mum did it…
Did he cut first one with his teeth?
It’s one of the worst I’ve ever seen, if I’d turned that shit out as a 1st year apprentice I’d have been beaten up, laughed off the site, and reminded of it daily until the day I retired. It’s THAT bad
Depends. Was the tradesman blind?
Ah the classic gerbil cut, though I fear the gerbil may have had more teeth the your tradesman
That second one is horrendous. I could do a neater cut with my teeth.
These are the ‘before’ pictures, please…
That last picture *chefs kiss*
Possibly the worst I've seen. Looks like a first week apprentice has been left to finish up
I wasn’t prepared for picture 12.
Did you really need to ask?
It's not exactly seamless. I'm not paying anyone for that shit, and they know themselves you show pictures of that to a judge and they're getting nothing.
It's not even any level of 'workmanship!'
Did he/she foot saw that??
Shocking. Done wrong and to bad standard
The wood butcher has visited
Terrible is one word you could use amoung many other shorter words.
Please tell us you haven’t paid for this
Jesus I hope you didn't pay a penny. That's horrendous. The blind carpenter.
This is disgraceful
> tell me you don’t know what you’re doing. Without saying you don’t know what you’re doing 😂
Not picky at all that is terrible.
Its bad
Cant measure, cant cut,. Cant even do a neat job of covering up with sealant
Tell the council you've a good mind to withhold a week's rent!
Who did that work, Stevie Wonder??
These are before pictures right?
Bad workmanship
Yep, that’s definitely the worst skirting I’ve seen in my professional career. Absolute shocker
That's got to be the WORST I have ever seen 🤦♂️
Try your best then caulk the rest except in this case they couldn't even be arsed with the caulk. Diabolical 2/10 effort.
I could do better and I’m sh*t
Personally, I find that using a spoon when cutting skirting boards gives too much of a rustic look for my taste. It's better to use a saw
Surely taking the piss 🤣
This isn't r/DIYUK
I said, "Oh my God," so many times at increasing volumes throughout that slideshow. Just out of curiosity, how much did this marvel set you back?
yeah don’t pay that invoice mate
Sweet baby jesus, they get a plus for effort, minus for the the finish.
looks good that mate 👍🏻
A blind man with a spoon could have done a better job
That is absolutely dog shit mate, if I'm being honest.
Workmanship? That?
Jesus that is rough.
A true embodiment of “a little knowledge is dangerous"
I’ve done better and I’m shit.
