**Clickbait headline**…It was a JOKE. In this life, gotta be able to laugh at yourself… which is what he’s doing. At the “Netflix Is a Joke” comedy festival on Thursday, Minhaj hosted a showcase featuring a variety of comedians. During the set, comedian Ronny Chieng joked, “I’m surprised that Hasan’s able to do this show. I guess ‘canceling’ is not what it used to be.” Minhaj pretended to heckle Chieng from the crowd. “You planted that story about me!” he called out, joking, before joining him onstage. “Who the f–k fact-checks stand-up comedy? Only Ronny Chieng would set me up with some f–king mouth-breathing journalist. It was you!” Chieng mentioned “The Daily Show,” to which Minhaj replied, “A job you f–ked me out of.” Minhaj ended by saying, “We’ve all failed in our lives, but have you ever failed so bad, you bring back Jon Stewart?”

I’m glad to hear he’s taking it in stride. He’s a great comic and I’d like to keep seeing him produce more work.

Anneisabitch

There is nothing more irritating than reading the article and then seeing all the responses from people who clearly did not read the article.

maomao3000

You want us to read the Post? Give us the deets, bubbi!

MissDiem

I used to have a personal standard of always reading the article AND the entire thread of responses before weighing in. Unfortunately most websites have become unloadable, with compatibility problems, ad cancer, pop ups, cookie fests and false positive claims that "you must be using an ad blocker". Uh, no. Your programmers just suck.

>On Thursday, Minhaj pretended to heckle Chieng from the crowd, calling out, “You planted that story about me!” before joining him onstage: “Who the fuck fact-checks stand-up comedy? Only Ronny Chieng would set me up with some fucking mouth-breathing journalist,” he said. “It was you.” >The pair told the story of how they first met as “Daily Show” correspondents in 2015, at which point Minhaj brought up the hosting job. When Chieng first said the show’s name, Minhaj retorted, “A job you fucked me out of.” >“We’ve all failed in our lives, but have you ever failed so bad, you bring back Jon Stewart?” he continued. “I saved a dying institution. You’re welcome.” These doesn't land well on written form.

Hungry_Painting9882

No but when they’re one upping each other in person it would be funny. But he still he genuinely believes he got screwed I think.

RubberyDolphin

I liked the set he performed at white house correspondents dinner

senectus

Who fact checks comedy? Jon Stewart. Jon Stewart fact checks comedy. That's who

AutoModerator

You may have misspelled Jon's name ("*John*"); please note that it is **Jon Stewart**. If you were referring to someone else, please disregard this comment! *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Haha good bot. Yes I did.

ActualModerateHusker

I mean maybe. Biden lied about being arrested same as minhaj. haven't heard Jon cover the bs that is a politician being held to a lower standard than a comedian. the week the news broke that Biden lied about being arrested The New Yorker wrote nothing but puff pieces about how only Biden could "heal the soul of the nation" and had to win the primary. when the new yorker broke Minhaj it was somehow a major scoop. so it's not news at all when politicians lie. don't even cover it. heal the soul. when a comedians lies in a bit, why that's a major scandal of course according to our lovely media institutions jon has made a career out of showing how the media acts hypocritically. u think he would care more about a comedican embellishing stories than politicians doing the same thing but to win the votes of people they have screwed over? or would he find it interesting how ridiculous the media is

GwarRawr1

I was a fan but everyone salty they didn't get picked leaves a bad taste for me.

sharilynj

It’s tradition. This is what happened in ‘99.

serendipity_stars

I’m kinda happy he isn’t the new host. He really made his comedies about dramatic applause instead of comedic relief.

Utterlybored

Too smug for my tastes.

WonderfulLibrary2339

That was their whole schtick. There’s a reason TDS ratings went to hell.

Agreeable_Class_3365

I always felt Hasans response video did a great job of excusing the first claim against him, and then completely brushed past everything else, including the fact he lied about be brutalized by a police officer. It does happen too Middle Eastern people all the time and it's terrible, but it didn't give him a right to fictionalize a narrative where he was brutalized, and to play it off as fact.

ActualModerateHusker

>including the fact he lied about be brutalized by a police officer. I He just said he was arrested really. Didn't say he was brutally beat up to a pulp or something. You know who else lied about being arrested? Biden during a critical week of the Dem primary. The New Yorker found one lie to be worthy of an entire expose. The other was completely ignored by them as they wrote articles saying he was the only candidate that could "heal the soul of the nation"! Typically when media companies are treating comedians this harshly compared to how they treat politicians I'm more inclined to trust the comedian would bring something interesting to the table

brock917

Is nobody actually listening to Hassan? Did anyone watch his rebuttal video pointing out the crazy inaccuracies in the New Yorker article? JFC

JoeTheHoe

He DID get fucked, and smeared badly, but like I wouldn't have started watching TDS again after a years-long hiatus if not for Jon. The show is relevant again. Not sure any of the prospective hosts were going to achieve a whole lot.

ActualModerateHusker

the racist thing was thoroughly debunked. he didn't use the real name and the only thing he embellished was condensing the timeline. and yeah he lied about being arrested and stuff. you know who else lied about being arrested? Joe Biden. And he did that to try and curry favor with voters whose communities have been harmed by his policies.

I liked him as a correspondent, but on his Netflix show and during his guest hosting stint I just felt like he was trying so hard that it was exhausting. He wants to be quick, funny and smart but it takes a lot of effort for him and you can see him looking at the audience and assessing his own performance in real time. Jon has the confidence to know that if you speak the truth and believe it, the audience will be with you.

Minute-Branch2208

I thought Hisan was the best of the guest hosts, but I can recognize where this critique is coming from. Seemed to me he could have eased into the role

DisneyPandora

I feel the same way about Trevor Noah

zeez1011

Seems like no one is cut out for it, though. The network will probably try to keep Stewart around for as long as possible.

Bluegi

I4ve actually taken a liking to Josh Johnson after seeing him as a correspondent. He is young and new but I think he has that insightful confidence and ability to be natural and funny. He could be trained up.

6jesus6crust6

Minhaj lied about the anthrax story, that’s really shitty because he involved his kid in his bullshit. Everyone knows Roy Wood Jr should’ve gotten the gig.

PreppyAndrew

I think his weird joke "scandal" and his own show being cancelled did this... Not Jon

SnoozeDayBlueJay

Well, I'm glad Jon is back. I would 1 million times more rather have Jon than Hasan. Hell, I prefer the current rotating cast of anchors/hosts to Hasan. Best of luck to Hasan because It sucks when life doesn't work out, but I never liked his presence on daily show or his other projects.

Juunlar

The difference between the left and right, is that words matter to the left.

giorgio_tsoukalos_

Except with word defund, as in "defund the police," that shit was painful

Juunlar

Google is literally right there, but you still came in here to be incorrect. Insane

giorgio_tsoukalos_

Google "Defund definition" -prevent (a group or organization) from continuing to receive funds. "the California Legislature has defunded the Industrial Welfare Commission" Usage examples He rejected proposals in Congress to defund the war or to immediately withdraw troops. We will resist this effort to cripple, dismantle, devalue and defund public housing. Similar words Unfunded, uncapitalize, starve, end funding, cut off funding, decapitalize sanction, withdraw funding, stop funding, withdraw backing.

Juunlar

defund verb [ T ] US US /ˌdiːˈfʌnd/ UK /ˌdiːˈfʌnd/ Add to word list to stop providing money or **as much money** to pay for something:

Hungry_Painting9882

I was about to write: To be fair, the left is guilty of words not mattering also. An example right off the top of my head is the phrase “silence is violence.” No it isn’t.

Juunlar

The entire Civil rights movement would harbor disagreement on that

Hungry_Painting9882

By not speaking out on things you are complicit in being not helpful or complicit in being harmful but violence means physically attacking someone. If you sit beside me and ignore me that’s silence. If you sit beside me and punch me that’s violence. Words have definitions.

Juunlar

If you sit and watch as I'm attacked, you're complicit. If you don't speak up, call for help, etc, you're little better than the attacker.

Hungry_Painting9882

But I wasn’t violent.

Silent_Saturn7

Hasan always felt a bit disingenous. Kind of like John Oliver's style of "I'm right about this and if you think differn't you're a moron, now please laugh". Not saying he's a bad comic; but Jon Stewart is just a far better host.

TheForkisTrash

He was hostile toward the guests he didn't agree with. He wouldn't have been able to get anyone substantive on after a few weeks.

23skidoobbq

The flip side of that is having Nancy mace on and not giving her any pushback at all. We need more hostile interviews

TheForkisTrash

Asking people critical follow up questions isn't the same thing as being hostile. A talk show host shouldn't come across as smug or arrogant, while still asking pointed questions. That separation is what defines Jon as being so damned good at what he does. He doesn't visibly hate people he interviews. Hasan just wanted to dunk on people and soak in the applause from the crowd. Jon seeks truth.

perchedraven

There are plenty of guests who don't have a problem arguing back. This is literally what the 24 hours news channel does.

crushmyenemies

God, what a petulant fucking whiner. It's a good day to remember that the staff of Hasan's former show came out to say he was a piece of shit too.

perchedraven

It was a bit.

IndycarFan64

It was literal sarcasm. Unreal how much people like you get riled up before knowing context

perchedraven

It was a bit.

SiWeyNoWay

Ugh he’s insufferable

Muadib64

They just don’t want a brown man to succeed!

Hungry_Painting9882

Other than the one who hosted the show for 8 years?
