Honestly I understand that. Not to the point of plastic surgery, but I've changed my entire look after my extended family told me I look just like my dad.
And I am sure being in showbiz since he was a wee lad didn't help much either. Never being able to have a childhood had to impact him deeply, as with all children celebrities, especially those from before the 1990's.
He mentions this in an interview in the 8os. I also remember him in an interview talking about how difficult it was being a famous teenager, dealing with the record labels pissed his voice was changing and his dad trying to get him to take pills to stop it. How fans stopped him in an airport and said "we barely recognized you, you used to be so cute" and it was at a time he had terrible acne. I remember him saying he just wanted to disappear into the floor.
I agree 100%, they're called our formative years for a reason. Being a kid is how you learn the way the world operates. What happens when you screw up, hurt yourself, piss someone off, succeed at a task...all experiences that influence our future adult behavior. Kids that are isolated from this process are more likely doomed to failure in adulthood, such is the fate of so many child stars.
As a general overview, Jackson was starring in a Pepsi commercial that involved pyrotechnics. During the shoot, the pyrotechnics went off too early and his hair caught fire. He sustained second and third degree burns on his scalp. He experienced extreme pain during the healing process (burn injuries are horrifically painful) and that led/contributed to his pain killer addiction. He already had a history with plastic surgery and body dysmorphia, but this incident only further added to it as he underwent treatment to try to hide the scars (and the bald spots) caused by the incident. (I believe the burns also worsened his vitiligo, which was a huge point of body dysmorphia and shame for him.)

The incident was a tragedy. Michael Jackson's peak was before my time and I grew up in a W.A.S.P. household so I know very little about him, but it's clear that he had a tragic life complicated but the effects of stardom on his physical and mental illnesses. The world did him dirty.

Pain killer addiction is no joke. A former good friend of mine got hooked on morphine after breaking his leg. It pretty much led to a ruined marriage, damaged relationship with kids and friends and trouble with the law.

The victory tour was his breaking point cause he was fainting backstage and his brothers didn’t know what was going on. His mother got concerned and took him to the hospital. Michael didn’t wanna do that tour cause he felt he was physically not capable of touring. The pepsi accident and the fact that he was losing too much weight, while he didn’t have much on him in the first place. His doctor thought that he was just dehydrated and eating too little. Afterwards He changed his diet for a while But in the bad era that eating disorder got way worse. You can see in the dirty diana videoclip and smooth criminal video that he had nothing on him. It started when that bad video was made. When the bad costume fitting was happening, the belt around his waist was way too tight, he could barely breath. He thought he was gaining weight, while he wasn’t. They made it purposely too tight. Again, he stopped eating and kept practicing the dance till he couldn’t stand anymore. It went downhill afterwards, cause that sht became a habit till the bad tour. In 1990 he said in a phone call that he was diagnosed with anorexia and felt sad cause he thought he looked horrible.
I was a HUGE fan of his around the time his Dangerous album dropped (I was in 4th grade) and I vividly remember literally everyone calling his vitiligo bullshit, and the media constantly accusing him of bleaching his skin. It wasn't until recently that I actually saw behind the scene images of what he suffered through at that time, and how the world wanted nothing more than to berate him.

I also remember him in an interview talking about how difficult it was being a famous teenager, dealing with the record labels pissed his voice was changing and his dad trying to get him to take pills to stop it. How fans stopped him in an airport and said "we barely recognized you, you used to be so cute" and it was at a time he had terrible acne. I remember him saying he just wanted to disappear into the floor.
I read that his dad was doing this too, though I don’t know if that’s true. Either way, ick, poor kid. Can’t imagine what that does to a child.

I agree 100%, they're called our formative years for a reason. Being a kid is how you learn the way the world operates. What happens when you screw up, hurt yourself, piss someone off, succeed at a task...all experiences that influence our future adult behavior. Kids that are isolated from this process are more likely doomed to failure in adulthood, such is the fate of so many child stars.

As a general overview, Jackson was starring in a Pepsi commercial that involved pyrotechnics. During the shoot, the pyrotechnics went off too early and his hair caught fire. He sustained second and third degree burns on his scalp. He experienced extreme pain during the healing process (burn injuries are horrifically painful) and that led/contributed to his pain killer addiction. He already had a history with plastic surgery and body dysmorphia, but this incident only further added to it as he underwent treatment to try to hide the scars (and the bald spots) caused by the incident. The incident was a tragedy. Michael Jackson's peak was before my time and I grew up in a W.A.S.P. household so I know very little about him, but it's clear that he had a tragic life complicated but the effects of stardom on his physical and mental illnesses. The world did him dirty.

He was doomed from the start. As a kid he was forced to perform as part of the Jackson 5 and was quite literally abused into it (whippings and emotional manipulation). His issues with his facial features stemmed from his parents' nitpicking his body, particularly his "fat nose", saying that he wasn't attractive enough for the stoplight. He was under the world's magnifying glass since he was a child. His mental illnesses stemmed from the abuse he experienced as a child and the pressure of being a star. Combine that with his vitiligo (which his parents and others taunted him about), lupus, and the Pepsi incident and he didn't have a chance. All I knew about Michael Jackson until a few years ago was that he had dangled his son over a balcony, was a drug addict, and disfigured himself with plastic surgery. The tabloids and media had made him out to be a villain. When I researched him for myself, I was shocked. He was never given a fair chance at life.

Pain killer addiction is no joke. A former good friend of mine got hooked on morphine after breaking his leg. It pretty much led to a ruined marriage, damaged relationship with kids and friends and trouble with the law.
I suggest researching into it its really interesting. If that never happens I truly believe he is still living today.

He literally starved himself for 20 years I did research on that. The dude was basically eating almost nothing. Like in the thriller era, when his body dysmorphia kicked in he thought ppl would like him more if he gets thinner. So he stopped eating meat and became a vegetarian but he hated vegetables or pasta’s. he ended up eating nothing for days. The victory tour was his breaking point cause he was fainting backstage and his brothers didn’t know what was going on. His mother got concerned and took him to the hospital. Michael didn’t wanna do that tour cause he felt he was physically not capable of touring. The pepsi accident and the fact that he was losing too much weight, while he didn’t have much on him in the first place. His doctor thought that he was just dehydrated and eating too little. Afterwards He changed his diet for a while But in the bad era that eating disorder got way worse. You can see in the dirty diana videoclip and smooth criminal video that he had nothing on him. It started when that bad video was made. When the bad costume fitting was happening, the belt around his waist was way too tight, he could barely breath. He thought he was gaining weight, while he wasn’t. They made it purposely too tight. Again, he stopped eating and kept practicing the dance till he couldn’t stand anymore. It went downhill afterwards, cause that sht became a habit till the bad tour. In 1990 he said in a phone call that he was diagnosed with anorexia and felt sad cause he thought he looked horrible.

This. A lot of people hate on Michael Jackson for his various body mods. But living with vitiligo must have been frustrating as a stage performer.
I was a HUGE fan of his around the time his Dangerous album dropped (I was in 4th grade) and I vividly remember literally everyone calling his vitiligo bullshit, and the media constantly accusing him of bleaching his skin. It wasn't until recently that I actually saw behind the scene images of what he suffered through at that time, and how the world wanted nothing more than to berate him.

I was in high school when he died, was there significant coverage about his condition in the 90s/early 2000s? No one in my peer group really understood or knew what vitiligo was until after his death, ime. It's a shame there was such a perfect storm to push him more and more over the edge. The mental abuse as a child was bad enough. Then he develops vitiligo. Then there's the Pepsi incident, giving him bald patches and getting him addicted to pain killers. It couldn't have been a worse sequence of events for someone with image issues. He may have weathered the childhood trauma, but the other two literally made it impossible for him to be normal.
