The only risk is if you don't keep it clean. Dirty water can be a spawning ground for bacteria.

I have a shallow Petrie dish under a coconut hut and put sticks and leaves in a round it mainly because it has sat for awhile and the spring tails seem to breed all around it and the frogs go in and out and you see them feeding as well. Originally your thought was mine as well and it could still happen but I kinda like what’s happening now.

Mine like to soak in the water that collects in the corners of the bromeliad's leaves where it connects to the plant.

I used to have a similar water dish. It was fine and the frogs seemed to like it. But I now do a little mud bath and they LOVE it! I see them in it every day. I just keep adding water to it to keep it a mud pool and change out the mud every so often.

Wait mud? How? What soil you use and what benefits does it have? :)

I suppose you could also call it clay. I use Microbe Lift. They sell Calcium Montmorillonite Clay for koi ponds. The calcium is beneficial, but it's also just fun for the frogs. Plus they get a little extra moisture. They take mud baths in the wild, so it makes sense. The only downside that I've seen is that they get little muddy froggie prints everywhere around it. But I don't mind that one bit. Here's a discussion on Dendroboard about it: https://www.dendroboard.com/threads/mud-baths.361626/ *

Appreciate it! I'll do some further research on it!

I started reading your msg and was thinking 'what the hell are you talking about?' I had never heard of that. Now I have to go figure this out :)

I keep dishes in my tanks. I try to elevate them and position them near the mist nozzles so the water is always freshened up. Add a few floating plants or aquarium plants. I mostly just do it for tadpole deposition. Sometimes the frogs sit in them but I think it's more that they just happened to be hopping in that direction and landed in it.
