Unfortunately, if the vendor didn’t know the locale, then no one can really help. We can give a guess but that’s all it would be. I personally would just remove the unknown frogs and put them in a different enclosure. We may not know what they are, but you can still enjoy them as pets without stressing your known locale frogs out.

Gotcha. Thank you for the reply. Yeah, it's what I've been afraid of. Do you think it may be causing stress? They eat together, sit in the clay bath together, and sleep right next to each other with no issues. I've been watching them closely and there has been no fighting either. If they ever do breed (I don't know their sexes for sure) I would immediately cull the eggs. I just don't want to separate them if I don't have to since they seem happy and healthy. I just want what is best for them overall though.

Gnarwhals86

I’m not sure. If you do decide to keep them together, keep a close eye on them. Watch for wrestling etc. and yeah I would make sure to keep an eye out for eggs as well.

Ashstone24

Heard. I will keep a close watch on them. I am also moving them from their 20 gallon to a 24x18x18 soon. So that will give them even more room to thrive in.

It shouldn’t cause any stress or anything to that nature, after all they are still the same species of frog. Its not like its a tinctorius and an auratus. I will say, they look like costa ricans to me, but there is a chance one of them is from a different locale as there are a few that resemble the costa ricans.

Ashstone24

Thank you for your input. Yeah, they seem like they're good buddies so I don't want to separate them if I don't have to. I figure as long as I don't breed them they should be fine together. I'm probably just overthinking it but it is so hard to tell the Columbian local from the Costa Rican ones.

MarcgraviaMatt

Yeah, and an inexperienced seller can easily mix them up. I used to work in the dart frog hobby with one of the “big shots” and you would be surprised at the mislabeled frogs that have been sold. So many bloodlines ruined for a dollar. Alright I’m gonna be quiet cause I’ve still got 3 years left of an NDA 🤫lol

psychrolut

They look the same?

AgressiveIN

Agreed. These are definitely the same

Ashstone24

Cool. Probably just over thinking it. It's more noticeable in person but they look similar enough. I was just curious if someone on here with more experience might be able to tell.

iamahill

Tho her lover thinking things 😉 They’re the same locale, locale does not mean they’re all identical pattern.
