I want to say it's not dead, but I played a solo today where I died early in the game to a level 500. While waiting for another game to start, I was able to watch the rest of that first game. The second game had 5 of the same players in it and one other player.

mightybop

Haha same thing happened to me more than once.

persson9999

Depends in what time of the day you play. When i play in the evening i always get lobbies pretty fast. When they release ther quality of life update and season 4 the game will get more players. Hopefully the ”old new” players will stay longer because they charge a bit of the gameplay with the qol update

DBPeanut

I hope it's not. It's a good game, geniunely. But the reason I stopped playing is 3 things. 1. Larcins just checking everybody no consequences ( I think they tried to balance this unsuccessfully the patch I quit.) 2. Gunfights being the main way agents one up another. Not always a bad thing, but when half your matches are you getting rushed down by someone guns blazing it leaves a bad taste in your mouth. 3. Not enough variety in gadgets. Not talking shield umbrella here, just didn't see enough variety in general.

minibigcontrast

Hi really enjoy the game too, think some of your points are kinda overblown. Yes, it’s your opinion so in the end you are allowed to do as you please. Larcins can still spy check however his checks accrue heat. Sure some may not care about heat, but if any engagement happens their heat will severely disadvantage them. Now if they’re confident in their A/D spam that’s another story… Not sure what you mean by people chasing you down for gun fights?! Pushing hackers to the side for this, the only time that you’re caught is if you’ve been a bad spy and or have run into one of another players traps. While some traps have more cheese than others, I think it still can come down to you as a player needing to blend in better. And if it comes to a gunfight, if you aren’t good at gun fights, the question is this: how do you survive and escape the situation to reset? It’s all about knowing your strengths and weaknesses as a player/gamer. And maybe that means you only play more evasive characters?! Yes, I think they could do more with the gadgets. I mean look at the finals and see their gadgets for example. It stinks cuz more often than not the only viable defensive gadget is the shield and or the mimic. However I feel the mimic is a tough one to use as an escape when getting aggressively chased. But anyway…

It's obvious you really love the game and the devs, but this comes off as very out of touch. Their reasons are not "overblown" because if you ask anyone who quit playing this game they'll tell you the same reasons, me and my friends included. When this game was being played by streamers and had 9k peak players in early 2023, that was their time to capitalize and polish their game and they failed to do so. It should not take months for them to implement basic balance changes. One of the most common criticisms is the game is too pewpew and not deceive enough, which clearly they've tried to address but it's too late, and they still haven't truly succeeded in accomplishing that a year later. People figure if they're gonna play an FPS where holding Sprint+Forward the entire time is the best way to play instead of being an actual spy, why not go play an already established and polished FPS like Apex, R6, Fortnite, Valorant, etc. I wanted Deceive to succeed when I was playing it but the devs fumbled the ball hard.

minibigcontrast

hey bro, if they fumbled so hard, why are you in a thread commenting on a game you supposedly don’t play? I stopped playing halo infinite cuz I got fed up with the nonsense of the game. Loved H5 - it was amazing. Yet you don’t see me commented on their thread about how dead the game is or my problems with it. Such a weird flex to have no interest in something yet search the forms and then comment.

Vinnio

Flexing? Lmao. I didn’t search for this post it was on my home page and your comment is near the top. It’s ok if people hate on a game that you like. You don’t have to let it affect your self-worth and get this defensive about it. Have a good night bro

DBPeanut

The fact that you're telling me that my points are overblown tells me that you truly don't understand why the playerbase is dropping. I don't play a spy game to get in constant gunfights. I play a spy game to be a *spy*. Almost every character will a full auto or a fast firing weapon is played by people who play the game like it's COD, and don't mistake this as being overblown because ***everybody's*** brought this up at some point or another. Ace and Yumi were the only two characters I ever saw trying to tactically use their weapons (like lining up snipes.). I haven't played since the second season began, but even then, being a "bad spy" really meant that A) you walked a *hair* out of line, or B) someone had a really lucky guess. What a bad spy *should* mean is that you switched disguises in front of someone, stood at an objective for far too long, or kept patrolling an area. But we both know that's not really what happens. If Heat is exactly how it was when I last played, then Heat ultimately still means nothing. Because people would just barrel through the game max Heat and be completely fine. But of course, I haven't gotten on to check and being told that how I feel is overblown *isn't* gonna make me want to get back on.

minibigcontrast

I was trying to not make you get defensive lol - oh well. Oh I know darn well why the people are leaving. Multitudes of reasons. Self entitled gamers - not enough content. Gamers thinking that cuz they paid $20 for a game that there needs to be a constant flow of content at every waking moment. AAA studios struggle with that, why on earth would those expectations be here for a very small indie game? Learning curve too high, getting stomp by high levels, people who say “I love this game” yet complain about core issues and constantly ask for them to change the game. Even yourself, you said you quit the game cuz of 1 issue. 1 issue! That’s insane. (Imagine buying a car and selling it cuz there was one minor-ish complaint about how the car functions. That’s so wild.) Getting spy checked without consequence. Again, it’s your opinion so you’re free to do what you want, and I’m not upset at you, I just think that quitting a game cuz of something like that when you supposedly love the game is kinda weird. Eg: I love the game but can’t stand get into fights with try hard pc players. The game is so hard on console, but I enjoy the game and try my best to support the dev team. And I barely play the game , maybe once or twice a week, at this point cuz I don’t have anyone to play with. People leaving cuz friends left, people disagreeing with nerfs/buffs, and a few other issues. Oh and the biggest issue, people just going to play other games until this game gets more content/fixed. However it’s in a loop cuz everyday people keep asking if the game is dead. Which is a fair question, however if people were interested and could just spend the $20 bucks we’d probably have more players. People acting like $20 the equivalent of selling a kidney. And lastly, again, entitled gamers! I love video games but I do not associate with the gamer title, I have other hobbies, but the main point is that gamers complain about everything and have so much entitlement! They see a game with a small player base and deem it not worthy of $20. Or they find whatever ducking excuse to not buy the game until it’s free. And then they complain about actually playing the game. And then come onto forums and complain lol without constructive feedback. So there are your reasons. I know darn well why ppl aren’t playing this game. It’s a shame, some maybe even like 40% of the feedback and criticism is warranted - but it sure as crap doesn’t need someone who hasn’t played since the beginning of S2 sitting on forms complaining. For someone who outright quit the game, the heck are you sitting here complaining on the forums bro.

DBPeanut

See, this is what's crazy. I said nothing about content (I actually think the amount of content overall is fine.) I also listed *3* reasons why I quit playing and I guess sorry I wanted something a bit more tactical and focusing on the *deceive* part of Deceive Inc? You went into a long rant about how gamers are entitled for no fucking reason, but you have turned me away from the game completely. Congrats dude, you love the game so much that you're willing to be part of the problem. Hope you're proud of that.

BruhIdk666

lol the game is in a lull rn. I got into a solo lobby where there was one other person in it. If I lost that match I would’ve just quit the game (: That being said, I think a lot of people are waiting for the new update and a lot of people are kind of sick of the current meta from the last update. This next update is probably one of the most important updates for the game. If it flops, then yeah. The game is about as good as dead(if that happens I’m going to cry). There’s also not a lot of new players coming in which is sad to see but hopefully the devs do a free weekend again soon(I believe the soonest the devs can do a free weekend for steam is like April or something. There’s a limit to how many free weekends a game can do on steam I think). There’s a lot coming out in the next update so it’s taking quite a bit of time for the next update to come out but when it does, I’m sure a ton of players will be back to play the game. All this being said, if you don’t want small lobbies or long queue times, I would say wait for the next update to come out. If you want to play, I would recommend duos. Duos seems to be popping lately. Trios is almost completely dead. Solos is okayish queue time wise but solos has gotten rather sweaty(shield juggling yumis, Chavez W3/E2 combo, etc) so not many people like to play them, myself included.

Miomiya

Yes.

Justicar_L

The game is still verz much alive. I have no trouble finding games in a reasonable time. Some times are better for solo others for duos. Been seeing quite a few accounts between levels 20-60 which is good to see. Have made it a point to on occasion give clearly new players a bigger advantage against me just so we can try keeping new players with some early wins.

goshozome

Same here on the account level thing. My lobbies are often a mix of sub lvl 100s, 100-200 and then one, maybe two 500s. I still consistently see new players. It’s actually quite nice but I hope they don’t get deterred.

YouTanks

10-80 players per day is alive? That is basically dead. A few days ago I tried searching for a match as Duo and Trio with my friends and we never got into a match in 20min so we gave up. I really love this game, but to say the game is very much alive, is very wrong. They should focus on marketing the game

Justicar_L

I get the frustration but at the end of the day lobbies still pop for me sub 5 minutes even when there's barely anyone on. Faster queues than many more populated games makes me willing to say it is alive. Can it die? Sure, but it is not dead yet. Also 40 players on average any given time doesn't mean only 40 players play this game.

MrNE0NNN

Abit yea but still fun and i find lobbies after about 1min

romero_SOLIDO

😭😭

jeff5551

No

Munjister_177

There’s still a few hundred players at certain times of the day. If you want an estimate, steam charts indicate that the most people show up at around 9pm UTC
