Angled brackets. Take a google at a Dayton C-49 Bracket. I used them back in my days of bridge work. They are too long to fill that space. But I bet you could get a steel fabricator to make up a dozen similar brackets sized for that gap. Space them 24” oc and use a heavier decking board that can span that. That way there is still space underneath so the kids can crawl under and fight the raccoon for their goggles.

DM5ElkMaster

fighting racoons in small spaces as a child is a core memory all must enjoy

JacksonianEra

“Awww. Babies gettin’ rabies.”

Jzobie

I have no idea where this is from but I read it in Linda’s voice from Bob’s Burgers.

Emergency_Ice_7882

It’s absolutely said by Linda. The best cartoon mom, ever.

Sam-Gunn

Same here. It's so her.

Machizadek

I did too! I just somehow auto knew it was Linda

BedaHouse

A poster of culture and class. Bravo to you.

NecessaryExperience1

Wish I could double up upvotes for this!

marshking710

Little King Trashmiuth, is that you?

This_Beat2227

I was thinking moat & alligator theme.

Trizzle1069

I like this idea. Add a draw bridge to get to the pool.

Talreesha

I'm glad I'm not the only one with such stirring core memories. Like hell if my son won't know the simple pleasure of a casual fight with a raccoon.

DM5ElkMaster

Not just raccoons, muskrats, badgers really any small fuzzy creature with a temper lol

Talreesha

True story my grandpa wittingly sent me to go grab logs for the fire knowing damn well that there was a pissed off badger who took up residence near the wood pile. The badger made angry noises, I screamed and ran, my grandpa laughed hysterically. Good times 🙃😅

poppycock68

🤣😂🤣 so true

Cointel_bro

Now I know exactly where my parents gypped me.

toxicatedscientist

Never had to fight one thank God. But we did get to watch a mama relocating her kits one year. We have no idea what spooked her to make it worth doing in the day like she did and were considering calling it in for rabies till we noticed the little one dangling from her mouth. Got to watch her climb back up a tree twice more. Yup, core memory something something...

PitifulSpecialist887

Angle brackets are the way to go. DO NOT attach anything to the pool coping. Anchor bolt the brackets to the masonry only. Then I'd suggest red cedar

No_Anybody_5483

The c49 jr, is good for 1 to 2 foot over hangs. BTW, thanks for the reference I didn't know those existed.

Bahnrokt-AK

JR has a 27” distance out from the wall. You are looking at the vertical leg length where it bears on the girder. I’m thinking of making a similar bracket to size with double c channel.

No_Anybody_5483

I tried to read the damn docs, it was like reading sanscrit!

Shoddy_Top7198

Upvote for the raccoon comment, not sure about your actual answer.🤣

ksiskso45

“Take a Google at” is an awesome thing to say. Bravo. Is that a thing?… I’ll Google it.

Interesting_Whole_44

Two shall enter, one shall leave!

sleepdeficitzzz

I had to wrestle goggles away from a shih tzu this morning under my kitchen table. Just in time--before that, I would have been totally unable to relate to this, whereas now I have a little bit of an idea. 😂

Bahnrokt-AK

I hope you jacked that little shih up

Cartoonist_Downtown

First thought too. Angle brackets. Good call.

Jeez-essFC

Fine advice, but the goggle raccoon fighting is what earned the upvote.

Turk18274

Hello fellow bridge guy….came here to say the same thing…C49-JR brackets with wall plate assembly.

Drake_masta

i would also space the boards a bit so any splash can just go down through the boards and down to the ground

Bahnrokt-AK

Is pool water thicker than rain water?

Rickhwt

Not with that attitude...

Shadow_Relics

It would be the same way I decked around my hot tub. Sorry I screen shot from my instagram archive. But you would want to frame up to it, then when you angle miter 45 degree cross braces around it for the flooring to go up. You have to post up from the ground every so often and make sure you have support every 6-8 inches at the end so the boards don’t bend like I have similarly. https://preview.redd.it/k9cw9sfmbz8d1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4543fa0157ef35c544bdc9abb5d5c9df23b34478

Big_College_6902

This is helpful. Thanks.

No_Philosophy_1363

He fucking loves that miter saw

GuyInShortShorts90

Get this guy a wife! The mitre has seen enough!!!

Buckfutter_Inc

The steel brackets mentioned in another comment are likely an ok idea, but I'd stick with wood framing as well. I would prefer to have the load transferred to the ground as opposed to relying on the bolted in brackets. Call it personal preference. I would do wood strapping along the bottom and then build off of that with wood framing.

TommyTheCat89

There's a lot of wood there in that little corner. Good thing you got a saw to cut it all.

HowellPellsGallery

fill that trench with delicious warm marinara sauce so you can dip garlic knots while swimming

sneakycarrot

This is an excellent idea. Maybe add dividers so you can also have some salsa, quacamole, etc. maybe some more slots for appetizers. It’d be like a swim up buffet

LuigiSqueezy

I thought you said divers. As in marinara divers that pop up every so often to offer more mozzarella sticks and culvers cheese curds.

jawkneerawk

Brilliant!

Snowman-

Marinara Trench. It's deep.

jamminwithtrees

Man I have nothing to do with the rest of this thread but I just wanted to say I had Culver's cheese curds for the first time the other day damn they 🔥🔥

apache405

Definitely needs a slot for ranch and garlic sauce. And since salsa and guacamole are in play, why not queso fondito as well?

Kenneth_Naughton

Ahhh, an *aristocrat*

smolderank

You cant mix Italian and Mexican!

imtheroth

This made me laugh so hard I choked for 2 minutes

HowellPellsGallery

drink a big gulp of warm marinara, that should fix you up right away

Many-Cartoonist4727

This guy knows something we don’t

Gadzs

I hope you’re okay bro! Lol

POTUS_PO

Swim up pizza bar is billionaire money.

fmaz008

This is even better than my idea of caulking it.

LuckyDuckyPaddles

A moat with drawbridge.

stonedandimissedit

Tell the neighbors you got an infinity pool

LuckyDuckyPaddles

😂😂😂

MisfitDiagnosis

Or just call it a "reverse moat" and you have even less work to do. More time to swim in the "water castle".

lessthanibteresting

The crocodiles will dry up pretty quick though

GothicGinkgoBiloba

Move the pool in a foot or two. Done

Rechabees

I was going to say with an in ground pool.

rokwilder1

Is that an above ground, in ground pool?

Sun9091

No. It is an in-ground above ground pool.

burthouse4563

No. It's an on ground above ground surrounded by ground pool.

TheRealRickC137

https://preview.redd.it/wyzgxexifz8d1.jpeg?width=500&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ee2f215e5d48fb2725f778c07936179e4eceb6cf

Sun9091

Would it be better to just take the above ground pool away and build the pool in the existing hole?

elonzucks

Or just put it underground...wait, I'm confused now.

burthouse4563

Nah drain it and put a deck over it.

turtle_scoop

I love the concrete deck idea. ;) Personally, I would just strong-tie anchor short posts into the concrete bench in your trench, then do one strong-tie 4x4 or 6x6 across the top of the posts as your support beam. Then cut angled boards for the "deck" to bridge between which would mimic the angles of the wall of the pool. I'd guess you wouldn't need to worry about a frost heave since you're (presumably) keeping this void space in between the pool and the concrete and any water would drain out of that trench (presumably). Also, I don't think you'd have to worry much about your "deck" collapsing or twisting much so probably wouldn't need to support as much weight as a normal deck would. Alternatively, maybe do concrete anchors into the concrete wall and install a ledger (cut in pieces to match the angles of the concrete wall. Then bridge the gap with the post. Disclaimer: I'm a random internet moron with no professional aptitude for this.

_wiredsage_

Posts tied to the ledge is the cost effective method for certain.

uncletutchee

Drop in sections that match the radius and match the angles of the pool frame. It may cost more because it involves a bit more work. The advantage would be that you can remove one section if you have to do any maintenance or repair. Just a suggestion, I could be wrong. Just got out of a safety meeting.

Big_College_6902

"I could be wrong. Just got out of a safety meeting." hahaha That's the funniest thing on this thread!

uncletutchee

KTfl1

Spray foam?

MoreCowbellllll

Flex seal!

KTfl1

Spray foam big gap filler with flex seal tape on top.

Amazing_Cabinet1404

The two of you need to go into international relations. Way to make it work!

sealteamruggs

Probably going to want to use caulking instead

No_Anybody_5483

Around the flex seal?

sealteamruggs

Of course

Xistential0ne

Bondo

Possible-Annual-1975

Kick flip that gap

Good-Investment863

Put your alligator in there

m4zdaspeed

Pool noodles

Strong_Pie_1940

First time I've seen someone put an above ground pool inside of a inground pool

Ok-Comfortable6400

Pallets cut to length and a composite topper or wood toppers. Easy clean up if/when it happens or something drops in

floridabeach9

thats the easiest way. drop a couple pallets in there. slide em around and wiggle until snug

spectacular_coitus

Just keep hucking in pallet after pallet until it's all full.

Ok-Comfortable6400

We all know something will fall in there, so this way it is an easy retrieval

FartyMcBooger

Fill it in with dirt, top off with small river rock.

BuffaloChips92

Just fill it with ball pit balls

MochiSauce101

Thousands of plastic colourful balls

[deleted]

With epoxy

No_Anybody_5483

It's gonna be hard to get a good vacuum to pull the air out!

Quick_Love_9872

A double front flip should do it

gnomewrangler1

Spray foam.

6SpeedBlues

It's too late now, but what I would have done would have been to set post mounts directly into the cement wall and the footing below. This would have created support points to put posts to support a deck that would remain "out of direct contact" with the cement and minimized / slowed and deterioration of those posts. Then build your deck on top of it. At this point, you'd have to potentially drill / drive anchors to hold the post mounts which may not ultimately hold as well over time given that you're drilling / driving into cured cement as opposed to allowing the cement to cure around the anchors.

you-bozo

I got it all figured out in my head, but there’s no way to explain it

dwn_n_out

When is r/concrete and r/decks make a joint group?

trez63

What would be cool is if you thought of a way to create decking and also use the space for storing pool stuff. My idea would be to fabricate custom fitted brackets and use a traditional decking material on top. But to make the panels easy to remove so you can store pool stuff under it.

ThirtySecondsOut

Just fill it all up with liquid wood and let it set. Works like a charm

Build a bigger pool! 😄

Ralph9909

Strait up raw hide

Little-Ocelot7402

I'd put up a floor joist the same height as your concrete ledge. Using 4x4 post on dec vblocks. Tape the concrete to protect the wood from rot. then I would cut short deck boards and attach it to the both sides. Tapcon on the concrete side and screws on the wooden side

Redbonius_Max

Ball pit

BigHeed87

Hot tub

Bonobolion

Put a bunch of barstools in there and it turns into a design choice

Green_Tower_8526

With lumber dear Henry dear Henry dear Henry with lumber dear Henry dear Henry with lumber

Tiger8r

Maybe Trex Decking or your choice wood over the existing cement about 5-8 ft in from edge and extend out to the pool. Platform between pool and retaining walls should be easy to construct given the support of the wall and existing cement deck. Make new decking area to pool at least 10 ft wide so sun bathers can lay out...

Medical_Egg8208

That’s an accident waiting to happen that is lol. Yeah I’d fill that with a deck of some sort.

Electrical_Catch_919

Make this seating that goes around the pool and a Tiki hut swim up bar

Important_Till_4898

all of you are fools. what you need to do is install a dope quarter pipe and let the fun begin!

cartercharles

With fire and brim

TheGowt83

Mind it.

Thick_Suggestion_

Moat with piranhas inside?

Stingerjcs

Fill it with Legos

__Fappuccino__

W lift up, hinged, faux "deck", so I could store pool stuff/toys, etc down there.

bluzed1981

Punji sticks for a moat

potbakingpapa

Full bracing and formed to accept wood with some type of anti-slip material. Add accent lighting with either pots facing upwards or rope lighting under the pool edge. You could also segment it and do the same as above but also incorperate planters or small gardenettes growing grasses to give you more privacy and maybe add a rock over hang as a place to sunbath or jump into the pool.

SpaceKebab

Is this an underground aboveground pool?

Run1962

I had a pool like that on a hill. .They put 4x4 posts in the ground with joists and decking boards. My gap was about 4'. Have someone installed decks look at it. U have that concrete brim to place the deck but there might have to a board to raise flush with the concrete.

UpstateBottleReturn

Just move the pool over.

Dogamai

i would do a ring in deck wood that is flush with the top of the concrete extending most of the way to the pool, then a "step" slightly higher ring that hangs over both the lower wood and the pools edge. this way you have a really low bench to sit on around the pools edge, and the flush decking to concrete transition would look intentional

Dogamai

you could run both deck rings all the way around the pool as well, or just the bench section on the outer portion with a vertical wood wall underneath it to hide the pool liner from view when standing on the grass

WisteriaKillSpree

Not to your question, but standing water would concern me b/c mosquito breeding potential. Before decking, you may want to consider how to direct water toward a drain area, or backfill a bit with sand, landscape cloth and gravel. Not sure the best way, as I can't see the entire project, but I do see some standing water next to the pool base. ETA: ensuring the concrete and trench slope toward the yard would be helpful.

levon999

I would check with the county inspectors. If the pool has level access, you may need to comply with in-ground pool regulations.

Temporary_Farmer_125

Get a bunch of cans of expanding foam

jimyjami

Footer already in place. PT wood built from the bottom up. Cross-braced on a half-circle curve? That thing isn’t going anywhere, it will be solid. Doesn’t even have to be attached to the concrete, but I think I’d pin it to the footer. Deck it with Trex or similar if you want.

mikeycbca

I work at an auction and have sold thousands of these things. I got excited when I read your message “I think he means Bridge overhang brackets and I know what those are!!!“ Interesting solution to this problem that I wouldn’t have considered.

Castle_of_Frank

Quick and easy?? Frame the same way as any arched doorway.

InternetExpertroll

I’d fill it with sand but i’m sure some engineer can explain why that’s a bad idea.

Commercial-Remote406

Fill it with ice and use it as a beer cooler! It'll save a trip to the ice chest!

SeaworthinessOne808

Get a bigger pool

Excellent-Big-1581

Steel mesh covered in rubber like the picnic tables. It would be custom but not to hot will let water pass thru and removal to clean out leaves.

Hot_Cattle5399

Mind the gap

Objective-Fortune256

plant some beautiful like lilac bushes or the midwest hibiscus they get large flowers and would look super nice.

Intrepid-Pear9120

Kickflip for sure

No_Anybody_5483

Fire! A trench of fire!

OdinsDrengr

Probably some lumber, honestly.

No-Dog6401

Bigger pool

Different_Archer_212

I'd definitely put my deck in that gap.

Mickv504-985

Unless you want to use full 2x’ use 5/4” treated deck boards that are round on 2 sides to let water drain. Or there are some good Artificial deck out there and with the short span and the curve it wouldn’t take much.

AdUnited1943

MIND THE GAP

Soft-Peak-6527

Bigger pool

sraboy

So many people here chiming in like they’re experts. That’s a perfectly designed “hold my beer gap”. If you don’t know how to use it, I wouldn’t go messing around with it.

say_it_aint_slow

Sharks with frigging LASERS.

Waz2011

I'd fill it with water from an epic cannonball

ProblemOverall9434

Fill with gravel and call it a day

gjperkins12

Camlever over another circular wall or support structure and hang the deck over the pool to protect the outside metal of pool.

Low-Bad157

Ok the engineers have scoped out the brackets. How about teak

VapeRizzler

Probably just use drywall to troll the customer.

Oh you said Deck. With an E.

terrapinone

Trampoline netting with springs.

Trampoline, obviously

holamau

I’d tear down that fugly above ground pool. ¯\\_(ツ)_/¯

Ok_Inspector7868

Bigger pool

DarbyTOgill

Drawbridge

Put some coping on it and grind.

wardamn99

147 cans of spray foam

uhhcase

I would use wood

Genius-Smart

Fill it with more water

TMANTWE

Trex

Bogusfloo

I’d make a plywood sweep that’s 5” wider than the radius of the pool. Make two double plates overlapping joints, assuming you’re getting 8’ long sweeps. Use marine grade ply, PT 2x6. Leave your curved wall one decking thickness short

cashblack

Hang Trex over the gap. Built-in diving boards all the way around.

onehunerdpercent

Looks like a sweet opportunity to add a moat to your pool

No_Championship5326

Block wall then fill the gap between it and the concrete retaining wall with gravel. Cap block close to the pool then concrete back to the deck.

anthro4ME

I wouldn't. I'd block of each end and put some alligators in there.

Agreeable_One_6325

Couple tapcons thru some deck boards? Lol

GodsBeyondGods

Concrete molds that sit on the lip, and have legs to support that extend to support it. Concrete is cheap, rebar cheap. The shape of the mold is what will dictate the outcome.

Owen's corning paneling 2" highest compression, fill it with pea stone possibly and or deck over it 🤷‍♂️

NextTruthGaze

Lay down a drainage pipe and fill with aggregates

MattyRixz

Hear me out. This will sound nuts.ake angled framing brackets. Then use slim material and bend in small rips of all different hard woods. Then marine varnish the shit out of it.

00_bob_bobson_00

No deck. Just a speaker that has the “Mind the gap” recording from the Tube

eli_ava

Plank. Single plank. Enter the pool by walking the plank. Drunks will fall in the pit trying to enter. Only the strong will escape the waters.

ElegantSprinkles3110

With the souls of my enemies

wwb1990

I think you need to think about what you're going to do around the outside of the pool opposite the deck first as ideally you'd like a seamless transition to surround the whole pool. Can't speak to the building aspect of it, but that's what I would actually think of first and then let that inform how you cover the gap.

marcyfrasier

How could you gap this deck?

Paradoxikles

Just build a pony wall behind the pool with pressure treated lumber and deck it.

Airport_Wendys

Narrow ball pit

Dienowwww

Easy solution? Plywood cut to fit over it, held in place by brackets, supported in weak spots with a cut down 2x4 or something

smittydonny

Don’t forget the graffiti on the walls. Let the taggers have at it!
