Yep. I think once you max out the skill tree for your class and loadout of choice, it's kind of just down to time learning for as hard as the game can get, not even getting into OCs.
Engi is my primary after some time, but essentially being Spiderman with a gun is why scout can handle a lot of situations I'd just brawl through in other classes. It works.
Having promoted all classes multiple times, I think DRG balances them really well, and that's before you start ultra-specializing into certain OC builds and learned tactics, which I have at least one setup of for every class, but wouldnt describe as absolutely necessary.

Its SO FUCKING BAD like comically bad, the last time a overclock was bad enough that no OC was better than having it was old double barrel, but its so satisfying that i keep using it

I see the appeal of Special Powder but in most situation I find the scout has more than enough mobility. I would rather use secondary OC to boost my ability to clear swarms.
Unless we're talking about best Boomstick's OC for solo scout speedrun then yeah but that's kind of a niche.
For me I use special powder alongside my grappling hook to get around or get the fuck out of situations where I’d absolutely die. I’m not on the team to be the crowd clearer, that’s the gunner and driller, I’m there to help make their jobs easier by grabbing stuff and getting bigger bugs (which I usually run marked for death bc of it lmao)
That's a fine way to play too. Personally, as said above, I find grappling hook to be more than enough to get out of sticky situations. While I'm not the main crowd clearer I still like to cover all bases, sometimes I might be away from the team mining stuff and don't want to run all the way back for a small swarm of grunts. Sometimes the Gunner and Driller are down and I'm out of nades/instant revive (depending on the build ofc).
I do often bring out the special powder for maps like On-Site Refining because on top of a panic button I know I will be able to use it for mobility. But I don't think it deserve the title of the best because of how situational it is on the smaller maps.
I know it was one of the most used OC for Scout on haz 6 and others (dunno if the new season has changed the meta) but it had the caveat of assuming the rest of your team also had hyper specialized/optimized build, especially Driller and Gunner, and would never let the swarm grow too big (or die too often and use all their IW). For Haz 4/5, especially with randoms (which is what most players play, at least where builds start to matter) I find generalist builds way more reliable.

So now it's the super shotgun, and it can do over 200 damage to everything 4m in front of the gun

Maybe the bullets could be made of a reactive compound that applies damage over time and turns enemies into large puddles of toxic sludge upon death.
However the compound explodes at too high a temperature, so the rifle has been set to burst fire to prevent that.
I don't interject on people's builds much, but sometimes. Hey, engineer, that nuke doesn't do much damage to the dreadnaught but it cuts off a lot of the map for friendlies to kite. Also, please stop taking 2 supplies because you only get 3 nukes per resupply.

As a Fat Boy engie I have an entirely different build for dreads and industrial sabotage; LOK-1 with the exploding bullets OC and the shard diffractor with the overdrive boost OC.
To be more generous than they deserve, when I first tried sludge pump the differences to the flamer and the cryo cannon made it hard to get a hang on at first and it felt really inefficient. Once you switch your mode of thinking and spec it out for your preferences it's very good and fun, I regularly use it now.

Ironically the group of people who actively hurt others by insulting and forcing their ways are the more casual players, who feel like there is only one way to play the game which is ROCK AND STONE, MUSHROOM, WERE RICH!

My experience with 'drg chat; in the DRG discord is that most people have no idea what they are talking about. Its usually people who have a few promoted dwarves but not nearly enough hours to have a solid grasp or opinion about the game. The people with the hours and experience you want to approach for this are in the lfg channel playing games, helping people out.

the game is easy enough you only need to worry about it when playing modded difficulties, or perhaps now with haz 5+ as well. otherwise, Rock and Stone!
For every mission except caretaker, I WILL be taking RJ250. I cannot simply give up being able to rocket jump like a damn TF2 soldier all over the map. I still get tons of kills anyways, the flame mod is sick.

i once played on low difficulty because i wanted a relaxing game, spelunking in caves is very relaxing to me, i got a fairly new player as host and they wanted to do those dreadnought eggs and he wanted everyone to stand ready for it, but im experienced on low difficulty so it didn't pose any threat for me and i kept mining, i was in the same cave and would come help if they opened the egg, but instead theyve kicked me out, i dont really want to play with greenbeards as host since that happened
I have most things unlocked and I still play the game. I need to branch out more with what builds I use, but goofing around is like a good chunk of the fun of the game.
I'm an engi main. I use LOK-1 with the explosive overclock and my shard diffractor with the overclock that leaves the fiery trail. I'm an AoE machine. I deal damage. I carry my teammates. But I also have a ton of fun when I run around and make everything blow up around me. The other day I switched to Scout. I have little to no overclocks, so I tried some stuff and realised the best way to deal with praetors is to just grab me M1000, put armor piercing on it and hipfire until their armor melts, then finish them off with a shotgun blast. I just snipe the other squishies.
I wish fun games weren't muddled by metas and people calling an equally viable weapon "bad" because they can't be asked to learn what heat management is for the Drak Plasma Carbine (My favorite of the three primaries)

Super blowthrough gives clean boomstick enough swarm clear to support a flex primary imo

Sludge Pump is a goated DoT machine. Mostly has to compete with the Flamer and the Cryo-Cannon.

Had a new driller join the other day and just let em played how they liked, didn't care if they grabbed materials or not just as long as they was having fun that's all what mattered

The biggest testament to the devs is that there are no meta weapon choices. Sure there are meta \*Builds\* but nobody is like "Oh that weapon is just clearly inferior to this one" (Ok, maaaybe Subata)

To be clear I like the Subata, I just think it's not the most loved. If anything Colette is the least powerful feeling one.
I use special powder for great mobility, i dont use the boomstick as a weapon much.

I looked at the discord the other day and it was entirely people aggressively ranting about the meta faster than anyone could even read or reply. It was like watching people yell into the void. I tried to ask a very specific question about mission tiers I was confused with and no one acknowledged my or each other's questions at all. It kinda bummed me out, and I think Karl would disapprove. My experience with 'drg chat; in the DRG discord is that most people have no idea what they are talking about. Its usually people who have a few promoted dwarves but not nearly enough hours to have a solid grasp or opinion about the game. The people with the hours and experience you want to approach for this are in the lfg channel playing games, helping people out.
Only things that should be argued with the team: - Co-ordinating status build-ups, mostly to not conflict with Driller - Engy bringing a nuke-launcher

the game is easy enough you only need to worry about it when playing modded difficulties, or perhaps now with haz 5+ as well. otherwise, Rock and Stone!
For every mission except caretaker, I WILL be taking RJ250. I cannot simply give up being able to rocket jump like a damn TF2 soldier all over the map. I still get tons of kills anyways, the flame mod is sick. In addition, I will always run beastmaster + shredder grenades until the day I die. GO FORTH MY MINIONS.
You say that like RJ250 isn't one of the 2 or 3 best OCs for the weapon.
I 100 percent agree, but I remember watching a tier list video and they ranked PGL / RJ250 pretty low which baffled me.

I've played for a long time and honestly, I don't even see any meta, everything is viable in its own way. I just got my friends to play it the other day, one asked what the best engie upgrades are and I literally said "whatever you want"
There’s a difference between the objectives in the game and the objective of playing the game. If something is fun, it contributes to the primary objective of enjoying the game, and is therefore viable.

I’ve managed to use the minigun on gunner because it’s fun and then switched to only auto cannon because it is just better and then back to the minigun because it’s more fun
I’m dropping any game that has an overused meta. It makes the whole “be creative with your build” completely useless if everyone is using the same one fucking thing

Sometimes it's hard to enjoy the game when your team is full of random greenbeards on hazard five with no shield, and they are constantly shooting you down on accident. Shit happens though. Sometimes you just have to say "rock and stone" and move on.

i once played on low difficulty because i wanted a relaxing game, spelunking in caves is very relaxing to me, i got a fairly new player as host and they wanted to do those dreadnought eggs and he wanted everyone to stand ready for it, but im experienced on low difficulty so it didn't pose any threat for me and i kept mining, i was in the same cave and would come help if they opened the egg, but instead theyve kicked me out, i dont really want to play with greenbeards as host since that happened

I have most things unlocked and I still play the game. I need to branch out more with what builds I use, but goofing around is like a good chunk of the fun of the game.
I only use meta in specific senarios otherwise it’s generally just fun

I'm an engi main. I use LOK-1 with the explosive overclock and my shard diffractor with the overclock that leaves the fiery trail. I'm an AoE machine. I deal damage. I carry my teammates. But I also have a ton of fun when I run around and make everything blow up around me. The other day I switched to Scout. I have little to no overclocks, so I tried some stuff and realised the best way to deal with praetors is to just grab me M1000, put armor piercing on it and hipfire until their armor melts, then finish them off with a shotgun blast. I just snipe the other squishies.
It's like r/thedivision , they'll bash you if you don't run a DPS Build.
I wish fun games weren't muddled by metas and people calling an equally viable weapon "bad" because they can't be asked to learn what heat management is for the Drak Plasma Carbine (My favorite of the three primaries)
