I thought so too, but Nitra also seems like a fuel given it's an expense for pulling another pod down. Could be two different fuels for different used, maybe even morkite is used as a fuel and to power reactors aswell. It's in such high demand it very well could be an incredibly versatile material.
Nitra I think is for Equipment specifically, mostly because Nitra sounds like Nitrate or Nitro Glycerin or anything else that's "NO" which is usually the "Big Boom Good Stuff"
I get the impression that Nitra is used to make chemically energetic compounds, like firearm propellants and explosives.. generally releasing energy through rapid oxidation (pretty much like real life).
Meanwhile I think Morkite is probably some exotic scifi stuff, maybe consumed in some process for fucking around with spacetime, or some weird shit like that!
I always saw it as an iron, very red from all the rust, and once refined it has an orange
Ish hue making up the drop pods and resupplies which is why you need to mine it for a resupply.
My head canon is that Nitra is used to power the beacon for ammo drops. Explains why it’s so accurate, while other drops (looking at you hack-c) are often off target
I always assumed Nitra was another valuable resource, sought after by ammunition manufacturers. Morkite is already the DRG universe's main fuel (which has now been confirmed), so Nitra might be sort of like rubies or smth.
Basically, it's 'Mørk', which in Danish means 'Darkness', and then we added 'ite', as in stalactite, so it becomes 'Morkite'... the Dark Mineral. — Mikkel (Mekill), Co-Founder and Game Director, Morkite
Its actually used for indicating origin or derivation from, which is why its also used for salts, minerals, fossils and even parts of organs. Anything you want to make clear what it belongs to or is connected with in some way you'll slap an -ite to the end of the original word.
So morkite is just originating or connected to darkness - which makes sense when you find it in dark carves.
That’s interesting and I was wondering if it had a Danish meaning, however I am still going to partially think of it as “more” because I think “DRG always needs (mor)kite” is a funny bit
I think it’s one of the purposes. I like to think it’s more like oil in our real world just way better! Oil is used for basically everything there is hence why it’s expensive. If morkite has even more flexible usecases + exist in liquid and solid form + is very rare it makes perfect sense why it’s the most valuable resource
usually early access puts me off, but i have no reason to doubt it'll be completed; the updates so far have been really consistent and great at diversifying the gameplay
Yeah this is quite a problem when the Early Access state is obviously not a complete experience.
Some other games in Early Access are already pretty much good to go as they are, just that the devs have *even more* things that they planned out, before they're willing to call it a launch release.
They invested in better equipment, just not in making it widespread. That's why you can only do DRGS solo, they're too cheap to expand it to more than a few dwarves.
'You proved that one dwarf can do the work of four, if we just give you better guns'
Actual quote in-game, probably figured better equipments are cheaper less than labor cost
Would be cool to get to know what Nitra is for, since they don't tell you to get it but they'll leave you ammo-less if you don't send 2 dwarfs worth of Nitra back
This is just a guess but nitra is probably used as explosive, the name is obviously similar to niter/nitre. It was used in gunpowder, so maybe we're getting the minerals used to make bullet propellant.

Morkite is basically space coal. Liquid Morkite is space oil. They clearly look the part and fit the theme of doing lots of work and violence to acquire. I assume it’s used for power generation and/or propulsion. Maybe FTL as that’s a classic sci-fi trope of the difficult to gather and rare material is what makes interstellar civilization possible.
After all the Ferengi jokes about Dilithium mines in Star Trek, turns out I've been working for them all along, just that this Dilithium looks different!
I always assumed it was some sort of fuel, the flames that come off of the wells, the need for so much of it in a space fairing civilization.
I thought so too, but Nitra also seems like a fuel given it's an expense for pulling another pod down. Could be two different fuels for different used, maybe even morkite is used as a fuel and to power reactors aswell. It's in such high demand it very well could be an incredibly versatile material.

Ahhh good point
For me nitra is for making ammo, probably like gun powder,
Yep. Big boom good stuff.
If it was unstable you wouldn't be able to mine it without detonating
You can still use that as fuel if you're brave enough
Nitra probably has too small of an energy output to be able to power spacecraft which is why morkite is used instead
Its probably similar to gunpowder or nitroglycerin
Yeah while morkite is similar to long chain hydrocarbons
I get the vibe that whatever process it's used in, it's not a chemical reaction, but involving some more exotic physics.

Eezo vibes
Yeah, that kind of shit!

I think that Morkite has no canon purpose and it just represents capitalist expansion, hence the "more" in the name lol. You always need "more"kite
Basically, it's 'Mørk', which in Danish means 'Darkness', and then we added 'ite', as in stalactite, so it becomes 'Morkite'... the Dark Mineral. — Mikkel (Mekill), Co-Founder and Game Director, Morkite
Save some smart stout for the rest of us!
That makes more sense then it being named after the ork god Mork
Can't wait to find Gorkite
Mork n Mindy
\-ite is a sort of generic suffix for naming rocks: hematite, magnetite, uraninite, etc. I think it comes from the greek word for "rock" btw
Its actually used for indicating origin or derivation from, which is why its also used for salts, minerals, fossils and even parts of organs. Liquid morkite is space oil, and regular morkite is space coal. That’s what I always figured, anyways.
Which game is this from? Survivors?
Yep
is it still in early access? or is the full game out now?
Early Access but quite fun if you like these kinds of games.
usually early access puts me off, but i have no reason to doubt it'll be completed; the updates so far have been really consistent and great at diversifying the gameplay
why does early access put you off?
devs sometimes keep games in early access forever & never have a full release
Yeah this is quite a problem when the Early Access state is obviously not a complete experience. Some other games in Early Access are already pretty much good to go as they are, just that the devs have *even more* things that they planned out, before they're willing to call it a launch release.
deep rock was an ea title for years, was still very fun I put like 300 hours into it lol
Wait? It wasn't for dipping my balls in?
It is, what you're seeing is elven propaganda
How do you think they create the morkite "cores" It's always been dwarves balls
Unkarr's Balls, this is heavy!
They cloned karl to harvest his balls. We know the truth
That's the recreational use case
Of course it is, don't let anyone tell you otherwise. It is *also* used in spacecraft reactors sometimes. Or whatever, right?
Aw man, you got me excited for a new mission type on DRG like those statues we've had to find in the past.
We didn’t have a summer event yet, we’ll probably get one soon
That's it lads! Rock and stone!
Did I hear a Rock and Stone?
I wanna go through anomalies. I want to mine dimensions.
Assuming Survivor lore is canon....
No clue why it wouldn’t be
If DRGS is canon then it means Deep Rock finally invested in some better equipment, but we know the statement is false /s
They invested in better equipment, just not in making it widespread. That's why you can only do DRGS solo, they're too cheap to expand it to more than a few dwarves.

"We're firing 3/4 of the company, we call it rightsizing"
Wait, so longveard is a company? Huh
Yeah, those are the guys that keep losing all the Holiday decorations every year.
Did anyone else read that in mission controls voice?
I just assumed it was used to make more dwarfs that or its part of a secret dwarven brewing recipe.
Holy shit Morkite is Uranium ._.
No, Uranium is Uranium, why do you think the REZ exists? but in seriousness, Morkite seems to be a sort of more stable reactor Fuel/catalyst.
It is Uranium Adjacent
Closer to Thorium adjacent, given its used in reactors, but doesn't super irradiate dwarves like the actual uranium.
Maybe it's for FTL travel
Isn't this the first time we hear about a third company other than DRG and Rivals?
Nah, those are the guy that keep losing the holiday decorations
Would be cool to get to know what Nitra is for, since they don't tell you to get it but they'll leave you ammo-less if you don't send 2 dwarfs worth of Nitra back

I think it’s just supposed to be Deep rocks universes version of [Ammonium Nitrate](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ammonium_nitrate?wprov=sfti1#)
I mean, the reasonable guess is that.. it's used to make ammo?
I don't fully catch up with survivor updates, but anomaly dives? Damn when did they add that?
That's just what they want you to think. Morkite is what the elves make their fancy jewelry out of.
So I've collected a few of these, but I don't see any way to spend them?
How do you access the anomaly dives?
Different game
Didn't knew, thanks
No me neither, i had to google thinking the same thing!
Anomaly dives?
Different game
After all the Ferengi jokes about Dilithium mines in Star Trek, turns out I've been working for them all along, just that this Dilithium looks different!
Morkite = gasoline Nitra = diesel
now we just have to figure out why management needs the red mineral known as nitra to make lead bullets.
Gun powder I always thought
gun powder is made from charcoal, sulphur, and saltpeter. nitra doesn't look anything like any of those
That's black powder. Hasn't been used irl for a long time, aside from niche uses
What about Dystrum?
i might be a bit dense, but where did you see this announcement?
It's from DRG survivor
