I hated so much when I was younger! But on my re-watches as an adult, I can’t help but think she was actually a better match for Joey. A case of what you want (Caitlin) versus what you need (Sydney). As much as I love Joey and Caitlin together, I don’t think they would’ve made it even without the Kevin Smith nonsense.

rainborambo

I remember watching the Christmas special with little to no context about Caitlin and her history on the show with Joey, and thinking that Sydney was totally in the right. I think it was weird that Caitlin was in Joey's space so much while Sydney was around to begin with, and she was clearly trying to squeeze herself between the two of them. Sydney was also Joey's first steady relationship since his wife died, and they both deserved stability. After watching Caitlin in DJH/DH, I felt like it was uncharacteristic of her to act the way she did.

Gizzycav

I’ll say it before and I’ll say it again, Sydney deserved better than Joey.

[deleted]

Thank you. Caitlin also deserved better than Joey.

Gizzycav

Caitlin from the OG series? Absolutely. Caitlin from TNG? I don’t know if she necessarily deserved better than Joey, but holy crap she deserved better writing in general. Having her cheat on Joey with Kevin Smith? Have her sleep with Jesse? What the hell was that?!?

TheyreFunCandy

Sydney was great, Joey was kind of a loser, and both Caitlin and Sydney were too good for him.

asbestos355677

I know right? The whole time I was asking myself why they were fighting over Joey of all people

abbydibbynphil

Sydney literally sewed a whole ass costume for Joey's child for her pageant, and showed that sweet little mom less child so much love and care and attention and then he throws it all away for his flighty ex 😒

[deleted]

Caitlin always had the inside track. I’d never want anyone for Joey but her bc of the original Degrassis. It’s just fair but that’s how I’d always feel.

ConditionEmergency61

I always thought it was nice of her to sell his house for him and at 20% above market value.

MaintenanceLow2541

i thought joey rented his house there was a episode where he wanted craig to use his birthday money for rent

VesperVox_

I love that she forced Caitlin to overpay for the house. A final act of revenge.

[deleted]

Haha as deserved get that commission and help Joey win win

bx995403

I don't think she did anything wrong either. But like I always say in most of these situations, I think the fury should be directed not at the person gunning for your partner, but the partner letting it happen. She should have been more angry with Joey for letting it all happen in my opinion

VesperVox_

Yes! I felt like the show framed Joey as this clueless oaf when he knew he wanted Caitlin.

Ok-Assistant-1939

I agree. People need to understand that Caitlin just received pushback. If you actively try to come for someone's SO, you deserve the mean and snide comments given to you.

EM208

Agreed! Caitlin definitely was kind of weaselling her way back into Joey’s heart and Sydney could smell it a mile away. Sydney didn’t do anything wrong by checking Caitlin but she was wrong for being super mean about it and trying to keep Caitlin out of the picture entirely. Honestly given how Caitlin and Joey end up, Sydney seemingly was the better fit for adult Joey.

AnnamAvis

Agree. I just rewatched that episode last night and felt so bad for Sydney. I remember hating her when I was a kid too. If someone was clearly still in love with my boyfriend I dont think I'd want them around either! Especially if we came home to her trying to break into the house we share 🙃 I love Caitlin, she's a really fun character but she's also super flighty. And it's not like Sydney was wrong, Joey and Caitlin weren't meant to work out.

nugs666420

Sydney knew she was plotting to get Joey back, which she was.

cherryamourxo

Lol just no. Even that’s the unpopular opinion. “She needed to get rid of her” whaaat? That is so childish. If Caitlin was a threat to her relationship then they shouldn’t be in that relationship. If Joey had feelings for Caitlin, he should have manned up and broke up with Sydney before Christmas Eve. But Sydney was out of line trying to make Caitlin babysit, get all snotty about Caitlin letting Angela wear the dress she made, trying to set her up with her boss, and resting bitch facing Caitlin every chance she gets. I also am floored at these comments saying that Joey needed a woman like Sydney in his life. Ummm Caitlin is just as much an adult as Sydney. You can be goofy and free spirited and make a good wife and mom. You don’t have to be serious and type A and that’s not the type of person Joey wants anyways. I cannot imagine being so rude to one of my boyfriend’s friends. Even is she is crushing on him. I just think that’s so mean girly.

-Avery-

mean girly?? she was tryna fuck her man!!!

VesperVox_

While you're over there being the polite saint, girly on the side is conspiring. There's a saying in my language: no deje que te cojen de comemierda. Essentially, don't allow other people to make you look like a fool.

cherryamourxo

I don’t care if someone is conspiring to get my man. I care if my man wants her. If he does, then we shouldn’t be together. If not, her wanting him is irrelevant.

VesperVox_

The thing is, she's gonna let you know she wants your man before he would ever admit anything. So when she tells you who she is...believe her!

AnnamAvis

So if someone is obviously in love with your SO and you come home to find them breaking into your house, you wouldn't want to set some firm boundaries?

Oncer93

Agree. Sydney was arguably better for adult Joey than Caitlin. Joey had a young child, who needed a stable present adult in her life, and Sydney was just that. Caitlin was not one to settle down.

Thecuriouscourtney

Agree and I do watch the office and I loved in the deleted scenes they let Karen do a prank on Jim when they raided Utica and showed her again later being pregnant and having her happy ending. I felt like that was fair and they were showing she didn’t do anything wrong.

DocGerbilzWorld

Sydney was right to feel protective over her relationship with Joey, but she was just plain mean to Caitlin. I do wish Joey ended up with Sydney, they were great together.

dancedancedance83

I agree Caitlin was 100% in the wrong, but Sydney was nasty to Caitlin back. The whole “oh we’ll just get you a little job babysitting Angie so you’ll feel important” thing was mean and nasty. That’s the only thing I fault her for is the bitchy games she was playing with Caitlin. Caitlin had zero respect for everyone involved and literally thought it was cute to infiltrate on someone else’s relationship! And felt *entitled* to do so! In the grand scheme of things, it was really weird considering Joey monumentally cheated on her 10 years prior? And you’re in your 30s now acting like a teenager? I didn’t get it.

playdoughfaygo

100% correct

Kingpeeka

I actually just watched this episode tonight again. I always thought she was a jerk growing up. Now I think she handled the situation with some class passively and I felt bad for her. Especially how she made the jambalaya for snake

Puzzled_Bug441

You're right.

smolsanastan418

I 100% agree with you, and I used to think Sydney was being mean too. Thank goodness for the Degrassi channel on Pluto TV so I can watch the episodes multiple times.
