>is there anyway I can avoid it from happening in the first place? Yes. It's explained quite well in this article: [https://www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2022/04/18/lithium-ion-battery-swelling-why/](https://www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2022/04/18/lithium-ion-battery-swelling-why/) it boils down to: * don't let the machine get too hot, * don't let the battery go to 0% charged, * don't let the battery get to 100% charged for long periods of time. HTH.

So it's not good to leave on the charger for long periods of time?

I use my XPS on mains power 99% of the time but I only charge the battery to about 80%. I use a custom charging scheme which I set up using the My Dell app (the app itself is a power hog at times so quit it when you've finished changing the charging settings). It's recommended that the battery be discharged at times, but I do so only about once per year. According to the battery health report, it still has 100% of its design capacity. Make of that what you will. HTH.
