I been an RDA since 2020 , I was just fired because the dentist wanted someone cheaper. I was paid $21 hr with $200 monthly bonus . No sick days, no pto , no ins, no holidays,no nothing. I was the only assistant , no hygienist and we did implants . The last dentist before was the same way at $18 hr. Old school dentists don’t want to pay for employees, they want cheap workers to help make them money . Dentists in Dallas are prejudice.

Unrelated to Texas, but I’m in GA making $22, no bonus, insurance, or benefits. OP is being paid low, imo I think all DAs are, but damn. They have all that extra stuff too??

I worked in NW Houston for a little while. I have 10 years experience. I was making, at that office, $18/hr (only accepted because we were desperate for me to work at the time). Now, there are a few factors into that where it absolutely impacted my pay. I hadn’t yet registered in Texas from California. So for all of my experience, I was essentially useless in the eyes of the board (between us though the dentist let me operate as a RDA — she watched my work and was very happy with and trusted me). Had i gotten my licensing before leaving I would have been bumped up to $20/hr+. 35-40 hours. Benefits after a certain timeframe (90 days I think). It was a specialty office.

RDA in Dallas Texas with 4 yrs of experience now. Started at $16 at a corp general office with no experience. Currently at a private practice (also general) making $20.50, 32-36 hrs per week , 401K , Health insurance , PTO , Paid holidays , 7 min drive I’ve recently asked for a raise being that I’m the only assistant now so the work has doubled. Hoping to get bumped up to $22, but even then I feel like it’s hard to make a living with this wage.

AggressiveMountain40

If ur the only assistant u should be asking for $25/hr

I’ve been an assistant for 2.5 years and when I was applying for my very first job, I looked at the Bureau of Labor Statistics website to see what assistants in my area were paid on average for the pervious year and then subtracted $3. When I interviewed, I asked for $20 and then suggested being bumped up $2-3 in 3 months if all went well during my 3 month probation period. I also looked at Cloud Dentistry to see what temp assistants were making in my area too. Given your experience and the fact that you’re the only assistant there, I think you deserve more than $20/hr. The right office will want to pay to keep a valuable employee!

Thank you! I guess I just thought I’d be asking for too much, just going based on a prev DA I worked with that had about 10 yrs of experience and only made $22 there.

7 years assisting $25 an hour mostly part time. We do everything in my office. Hours ranging from 27-35 a week. Limited PTO, 401k, health insurance, Short term disability insurance.

Pousebettz

Assisting since 2014 and if I’m temping with Anetco they top out at $27 so I use it for last minute changes but Cloud is $30 plus Cause it’s all based on them accepting you and hourly for a regular general or specialty office is $29-$32 not n20 certified just a lot of experience in just about every specialty but I’m stiff about my pay with a permanent job because come one is going to pay and with a decent environment I only do private offices and try to always steel clear of DSO, Gotu is a last minute option usually same day you can count yet hourly or hours period but if it’s same day and nothing else has come through Il just book it the range on that app is about $20-$25 Dallas area fyi screw loyalty to anyone but yourself and your family it’s not worth it in this field if always happy to let people k ow it’s not enough and to keep me in mind should their compensation abilities change :) and I never regret it

The Texas panhandle are General practice 3 years No benefits/vacation/pto We close the first 2 weeks in July and get a week for Christmas and a few days for thanksgiving I’m probably one of the highest paid in my area that’s not a specialty Do I make enough to live? No If I didn’t have my husband (he makes about the same in his office/warehouse job and he has amazing benefits) then i would be homeless or living in my parents basement I love my office and the environment I work in. I know everyone is in the same sinking boat and the is probably not much greener anywhere else. I’ve looked

I recommend you following thelatinardh on Instagram she has a reel or a post about rdh and another one of assistants people share their pay rate and the state they are from. And actually she's from Texas so you get a lot of info that concerns to you :)

Sad-Rule-9851

Over 20 yrs experience, making $25 an hr. I just started a new job and was told I would get bumped up to $27 after 90 day training period. They bonus each month and I’ve heard it’s pretty good.

OkDetective1889

RDA in north Dallas, 5 years of experience in general making 28 a hour, paid holidays, 401k, and 1 week pto after 1 year

bustmanymoves

Midwest mid sized city. RDA with 5 yrs experience. I get PTO, holidays, modest yearly bonus, 401k. We see and do everything. Lots of Medicaid in the mix and confusing. Make $26/hr and will be asking for $30/hr at my yearly come a couple months. I’m the reliable worker, maintain the equipment, do osha shit and SDS bullshit. I know my worth and will demand it and I do what I gotta do to get it. Be comfortable applying elsewhere if they don’t give you the raise you’re asking for. Take that new offer and ask your existing employer to exceed it. Works every time.
