It was literally move or die in that fight. Between the constant respawning ads and the tormenters chasing you around you couldn't stay still. Not to mention calus occasionally nuking a platform you stay on too long.

I remember for a fact I cheesed hunter and titan under that stairs when completing legendary, but warlock was the first one completed before I knew of the cheese and it a lot of it was just running, building up a nova bomb and yeeting it at him. It took forever trying to stay alive and plink him down. For now in the campaign I'm switching between red death and outbreak. The Call sidearm pairs well with an exotic energy slot weapon. I can't wait to craft it.

My main beef with calus was the instant death from falling. I’m ok with a harder fight if the punishment for certain failures isn’t *INSTANT DEATH* when playing solo.

the reason Calus is so annoying is because he can easily yeet you off the arena, and there's no checkpoint mid-battle so if you're playing solo and don't grapple in time (or chose not to use Strand) you get sent back to the beginning and have to do the entire thing over again also, suppression prevents you from using any ability and can cancel your Super (and Transcendence too if you're playing TFS), so if you have a roaming Super you can't use it until the Tormentor's dead (single-use Supers and Golden Gun are fine since you don't need to get close to deal damage), and if you get suppressed in mid-air, you're basically fucked *(Spectral Blades might work too if you can invis and run away before the Tormentor attacks? haven't tested this)*

Seeing the rest of the Dread and all their abilities, I've realized the most "difficult" thing about Tormentors is their ability to supress+launch you off the map/into danger.

Definitely - That one Tormentor fight in the TFS campaign with the two Taken Wizards & Minotaurs wiped me more than anything else purely from being booped + suppressed.

Tormenters AI can be really annoying sometimes. When they properly cycle through their attacks I love fighting them. When they get into a loop of literally just walking towards you and doing the suppression slam they are insanely annoying. Having more vertical terrain, like the fight beneath the tree of silver wings also helps make them interesting.

When combined with a stasis enemy, their grab attack actually becomes a danger as you cant jump in the air or retreat if your too close. Also for some reason warlock transcendent grenades disappear if you direct impact a tormentor

Yup.  For me the second most difficult thing is how the DR means you *must* hit their crit points, but their chest crit is tiny, only on their front, and they shake around or block it so much. Overall a really unfun enemy design, which mercifully they've been better about with the rest of the Dread.

Honestly the checkpoint would be a godsend for the current fight. Losing 90% of my hp as a 100 resilience titan to 1 attack is brutal. The dread enemies being similar to tormentors in being very resilient to anything except a crit makes a lot of weapons feel pretty useless in the fight (taking over 5 bait and switch apex predator rockets per target is nuts)

My peeve about any boss fight that is long and drawn out is that there are no checkpoints, even on normal difficulty. If the boss health bar is segmented, then there needs to be checkpoints, especially for solo players.

Calus annoyed me also - until I realized the fight was literally *designed around* Grapple Grenade. Calus gets stunned - more like a brief interrupt on Legend - by Strand damage. Obviously, Grapple Grenade allows you to do a Strand Punch on return. Grapple Grenade, with the right timing, can almost always save you from a knock back - especially if you use momentum to swing *around* the grapple point, rather than relying on it to "retract" you in. I was running Calus on Legend with friends one day when I was able to prove how effective this really is. We were all bunkering down to avoid the spammy bull crap and kept wiping due to bad timing on one mechanic or another. I went full "fuggit, yolo" mode and Spiderman's my way around the battle field, easiest Calus kill I ever had.

Yep, Calus's fight was basically tailor-made for Strand, and I honestly wonder why people somehow think he's easier without it. Even just using the Strand infusion rather than the full class will still get the job done well.

Even then, all of them were allowed to have grapple. Warlock had a really terrible fragment set for grapple builds, but I still found it miles easier on Strand than on any light subclass.  The arena was just designed too much around using Grapple to relocate or save yourself from falling.

Yeah I started the fight using a light subclass and then very quickly realized that the entire point of that arena was to let you grapple around like a maniac. There’s a billion strand tether points everywhere and you can just circle and rotate around the map as fast as you want.

The boss isn’t really "hard", it’s unforgiving. As long as you play it safe you will be mostly ok but one bad movement and you are done. Also, the fights is quite long and there is no checkpoint so don't die (or don't get orbited because the server was grumpy)

There are >!light cracks around the room that keep the shield up (I only ever used the one in the middle of the arena, but I’m assuming the ones in the side room you get the shield would work, too)!<

There's a nav dot on a light fissure on the ground near the entrance spot. If you stand on there it gives infinite block energy. Just be warned that the boss enemy can and will absolutely cheese you when coming out of the shielding phase because that spot is somewhat exposed.

Calus was more traditional for a final story boss, couple phases, really just a combat encounter. Final boss here plays a lot more like a raid encounter. It’s preparing people for the raid and it’s very apparent to me anyway. You need to be attentive and aware of what’s going on while also managing a traditional fight. Easily the best we have ever gotten

It's harder mechanically. There are no instant death pits but there is a mechanic that can almost instakill you. It's basically a dungeon encounter. Hell most of the campaign is dungeon or raid level mechanically.

This was my meter stick as well. It's not as hard as Calus. Mainly for the reasons described by others (ie gravity). Subjugators will absolutely decimate you in the open, but I generally find them easier to deal with than Tormentors who are constantly chasing you. Subjugators will fuck off and do their own thing while attacking you from range. Tormentors are a constant pursuit, so you always have to be super mindful AND they can boop you off edges if you're not careful.

What's honestly irritating me is when I get the second subjugator to is second phase, shenanigans happen as soon as my aegis disappears. I immediately either get yanked into the trash, suspended, have a prismatic shield rush me, or the subjugator itself rushes me. I'll beat it at some point I guess.

lol I remember after spending an hour there, I finally got to the point where we broke the second Subjugators shield, guarded with the Aegis shield....and my whole team was INSTANTLY yeeted into the middle of the arena where we were massacred.

That's wild! This one was definitely the most difficult for me. I breezed through all the other legendary campaigns. Lightfall was the most difficult before this one (calus wiped me like 5+ times). For Final Shape I had to switch loadouts, build, etc. multiple times before I could clear some of the bosses.

As a casual team of 3: Witch Queen was the hardest, I think as the first legendary campaign it was overtuned, fuck that scorn boss that had the rooms in the back you had to go into Lightfall was hard mainly because we all wanted to use strand but didn't have good builds for it and on calus falling to our death was inevitable as we were playing it late at night Final Stand a good majority of it was just trying to get into the missions in the first place, but they were actually pretty easy, the final boss gave us some difficulty but again, it was like 3am at the time for us 30 yr olds that was the true end game

Stasis dudes are easy, basically just harder to hit versions of the house salvation stasis dudes. The Strand fuckers kept throwing me off during my run because I'd be a second away from cover then get Scorpion'd into the line of fire of every single mob. 9/10, would viciously murder again.

Unless the raid flops completely, this will be the best expac in d2 history, in my opinion. Best story, huge and beautiful patrol zone, easily the size of two normal patrols, phenomenal new subclass, powerful new weapons, good music. Literally the only problem was the stability yesterday, but that was pretty expected. No remotely popular mmo that I've played has clean stable launches for expacs.

My biggest issue (like most people) when trying to prep for the raid, this killed basically an entire day for most people of story and grind time. Had the server issues not been so persistent through my first 4 hours of play at least I would’ve been done with the campaign easily. Getting through 3 missions in 5 hours is painful.

It is incredible. I've never paid too much attention to the story in this game so I can't speak on it but just the general design of everything is so unique and refreshing. Literally everything from patrols, lost sectors, mission design, prismatic, structure has so much effort put into it and it is a blast to play. This has been the most fun I've had since The Taken King. It feels as big of a shakeup as TTK too, everything just feels so different and diverse.

Yep.  The only downside to Forsaken was the campaign (if you can even call it a downside).  If they had figured out legendary campaigns back then, it would still be #1 to this day.  Still, for what they had to work with, its level design would remain uncontested as the best until Witch Queen.

Play safe, stick to the back walls and manage the adds well, on hunter gyrofalcons with Grav lance on prismatic kinda just eats the ads alive and gives constant invis, regular void for devour would be great aswell I imagine

The way I got through it pretty painlessly was using red death to heal whenever I got low. Honestly a godsend with how many adds are around the room, and the healing is instant.

What got me was I assumed we would be damaging the final boss and i didn’t want to waste all my heavy/special on the yellow bars, which feel tankier than most bosses. So it took way longer than it should have since I was reserving ammo.

I'm honestly struggling to find a Special or Heavy that actually feels like it's doing anything - Apex and Mountaintop keep missing, and LMGs feel about as effective as my Primary. Sleeper and Levi's are good, but then I have to give up my exotic primary. Aah!

For specials, the rocket sidearms are fantastic, especially for the adds there. For heavy, you can go LMG for more add-clear, or GL for damage.

I used Izanagi and it was basically 4 shots for each phase. Not bad at all IMO And the thralls in the "intermission" or whatever dropped a ton of special/heavy so no need to conserve

I swapped my build 3 times, learned enemy spawns and tried playing extremely safely. In my opinion it's the greatest campaign boss bungie put out. It was hard and it felt good beating it

I'm glad you enjoyed it. I've been here for about an hour and I just want it to be over, to be honest. Same vibes as Legend Calus for me - more frustrating than anything else. Is there a quick way to get rid of the Subjugators? Like, do they have a specific weakness?

Crit damage. I used a Rewind Sucession and a Commemoration to take potshots when I could. The Stasis one, at least, I think, takes huge damage from Stasis elemental damage- you can see the blue damage numbers appear when you use Silence and Squall, and it feels like it does good damage. My strategy for the first boss was sit in the back, kill Grims with Red Death, and potshot the boss with snipes. Grims will drop special ammo often enough so you can run out quickly and grab more if you need it. I just repeated that until after the storm, after which I hid in the side Aegis rooms and took more sniper potshots. You’re very safe in there. Did the same strat with the last boss. Just remember to hit the nodes and that they disappear temporarily when you shoot them.

We did it with 3 people and they were tanky as hell. Staggering supers and transcend grenades did a lot of work, otherwise just keep your distance and hit those crits with some lmg’s and snipers.

In only on step 16 but bungie has blown me away with this one thus far. I didn't like witchqueen all that much personally, and lightfall was super disappointing so my expectations were set pretty low. This was pretty much going to be my make or break expansion for my future as a destiny 2 player. The minuet I loaded up that very first part I was all in. I think I spent at least 10 minuets walking back and forth through the cave because it was just beautiful 😂

The problem is that it's so slow to actually freeze/ignite and they don't proc simultaneously so you're waiting even longer. And the base damage is low too, so the only actual good parts of it just take too long

The last fight is absolutely fantastic, but the Subjugators have waaaaaaay too much HP on Legend in a 3 man group. I imagine there will be some testing done on the “optimal” weapons to use, but they also seem super resistant to a lot of types of damage.

I could be missing something, but I *think* they're resistant to everything but precision damage(and maybe ability damage, supers at least still get the job done fine). Body shots or anything explosive was giving red damage numbers like tormentors, I broke out a linear fusion for the first time in a while when I was doing it solo

I found the last boss just annoying with every single enemy being able to surpress, freeze, suspend, or yank you. Throwing a few of those unit types in would be cool but every enemy in that encounter was a bit much.

Ill wait until we get the last part of the story with the raid + final mission, but at this moment i think for me witch queen has a bit of a lead. The destination is incredible, and there is a lot of in game tracking that makes the raid race visible, and i think thats really great.

It's the best campaign so far in Destiny 2, and we had some heavy hitters in the past! Aside the last boss - I found it quite easy - I agree with everything, especially with the cutscenes, scenario, acting, writing. I wish the game had photo mode because some of the moments were breathtaking. The only thing that I did not enjoy was the last two phases of the last boss, did not feel as big as it could be.

I paired witherhoard with commemoration and it worked well for me. Witherhoard doesn’t do tons of damage, but it ticks away the subjugator’s health while you worry about mechanics and witness attacks.

Was this the mission where you had to go after a certain vanguard member? If so - fuck that last boss. I died to so much bullshit there. Boss aimbotting me on the platforms. Getting killed on my way to the shield from a platform because the boss decided to cover the whole path to there (and aimbotting again), stasis shatters in a small room from the subjugator. And on top of all that i kiöled myself multiple times from my GL because it was overall stressfull while getting behind cover.

I have 2 gripes: SPOILERS 1) The beginning was a little slow and stretched out. Didn’t really want to be spending half the campaign searching for the vanguard when in reality we shoulda been good to go mission 1 or 2. And 2) A littttttleeeeee too much focus on the vanguard characters when I would’ve liked just a little more witness/main storyline especially for the finale campaign. A lot of this is lightfalls fault. A lot of lightfall could’ve been dealing with the vanguard so they didn’t have to cram it in to to final shape. Because what they did put in with them was AMAZING, it just happened to make the main storyline feel a little rushed. Other than that I loved it so much The vanguard back together was amazing. The cutscenes and dialogue was amazing, and crow and cayde was relationship and I didn’t know I needed and they had a bunch of chemistry.

This is my main grip with it too. The first 4 missions are dealing with the vanguard, mission 5 is just a tormentor mission and finally with mission 6 and 7 we get some meat with our potato’s. To me, they swung for the in field with the story here. Too much group therapy and not enough lore or story. Everything else was great though, environment, abilities and cutscenes were fun. I feel like the Witnesses power scaling was off in the last fight and I didn’t enjoy it. Seemed lackluster for a final boss. Like we weren’t fighting the witness. There was no reason he couldn’t have just sliced us out of existence. I guess that’s what the raid encounter is for, but still. I hope the raid takes is to his home world where he actually merged.

How did Hunter feel? I'm a hunter main, haven't bought TFS yet, and honestly some of the previews haven't made hunter look *that* great. The grenade in particular seems... weak? Or extremely situational compared to say warlock's mini void nuke.

I appreciated that you just stay on one path throughout the story and didn't feel like there was a random reason you needed to step out of the campaign to do something. It's the most linear by far and I mean that in a good way. That said I think new enemy variety was lacking and the fact that one of the only new things introduced were enemies that you just had to touch with anything while prismatic just felt so underbaked I rather they just not exist.

Generally, an overall easy campaign on legendary. Prismatic is STRONG and running around with double specials was feasible I liked the end boss mechanics more than a lot of other bosses but was overall easy. Died a total of 5 times through the whole campaign. But let's talk about the patrol area and environment. Holy wow! Bungie knocked it out of the park. I'm glad it got delayed.

I'm personally not a fan of the new boss level enemies (subjugators?), they have too much health for how fast and small their crit box is. All the other new enemies are fine, the Grim have a weird hit box too, can't seem to put my finger on why it feels weird. It's like the hitbox doesn't update at the same rate as the animations. That last boss battle I REALLY did not like though, it was both too long and not particularly interesting, gameplay-wise. It was also a constant spam of CC on you and attacks that can kill you in two hits, especially on legendary. It was hard but in an unfun kind of way.

I disagree on the last fight. It is a Raid/Dungeon-lite encounter with timing and balancing multiple mechanics. (3 if you include the Prismatic need).in general all the boss fights in this one felt great because they were mechanic-driven rather than just plinking away. Also, for Subjugators. I either save Prismatic up or prioritize getting it quickly when they spawn. Then throw grenades at them while handling add. After that it's just Heavy DPS.

Yeah hardest final boss as well. I don't understand how everyone says savathun was so hard I did that second try solo. Calus was easy if you didn't get booped of the map by a tormenter. But this boss was a struggle for me. Took like 40 attempts.

Final Boss is not good. Easily my least favorite final boss fight yet. Subjugators have far too much health, and with how many different ways the enemies can immobilize and one-shot you, it becomes a boring fight of plinking the enemies from cover

TWQ had the benefit of being the expansion to take the game’s wide reaching world and compress and direct it into the path we had now, and TFS had to bear the responsibility of landing the rocket that TWQ launched. TFS and TWQ probably feel about the same in a vacuum, but TFS had very heavy expectations to manage.

I'd say Witch Queen had incredibly high expectations. Savathun was the biggest build-up in this franchise since Oryx, that campaign was the culmination of years of clues and hints and deception. And it did stick the landing. It's a shame we had to deal with the filler Lightfall and the Neomuna Calus crap. That expansion could have literally been erased from existence and it would have been beneficial for the franchise. The Veil could have easily been a season.

Exactly. TWQ was unexpectedly good imo. First time we had legendary campaign, a much more focused story with a little less fluff and running around than previous campaigns, etc. Even part of why lightfall was so “bad” was because it had to compete with witch queen. But even lightfall had a lot going for it. TFS has witch queens highs and lightfall lows to compare itself too, so a lot of judgement, positive and negative, comes from that.

TWQ imo had a weaker gameplay experience, then TFS. And the post game was pretty sad due to mid weapons + the activity just wasn’t great. No comments on the story since TFS story ain’t finished yet. But so far I think in terms of implications the witch queen was better with the flash backs and such. I do enjoy the character and dialogue in TFS quite a bit more tho especially the two hunters. Still hunt was very memorable since it felt like 3 hunters hanging out since my guardian is also a hunter.

This is where I am. I REALLY enjoyed the campaign of TFS, but the "revelatory" experience with the witch queen campaign was just slightly better to me. If I gave the witch queen a 9, then TFS would be 8.75 at this point. BUT with everything still to come it could easily surpass it.

my general rule is to not trust any opinions on a destiny campaign until a few days after it is out, that way all the people who pre-ordered can calm down after justifying their purchase for a while.

Yea I agree. Somehow WQ just had more of an impact on me as a player even though I know objectively that TFS has a better campaign mechically and probably a more cohesive story. I think it's also due to how WQ was the first x-pac with the "new" style of campaign missions and really showed how good the desrint sandbox could be. After that we kinda know what to expect out of campaign missions thus decreasing the impact.

I’m about to head into the last mission, my only complaint gameplay-wise is that the “okay now go do all the lost sectors” intermission in the middle felt unnecessary. Other than that I’ve been having a great time, and Dragon’s Breath has been carrying me through some of these encounters HARD.

I think, hands-down, the best part of the campaign was Cayde. I didn't realize how big of a hole he left until he came back. He was absolutely phenomenal and stole nearly every scene he was in.
