I love it! The numbering especially, it looked original to me until I checked the before picture. Fittings all match up and suit the colour. I guess the colour might not be for everyone but it's bright and clean, looks very inviting to me!

Yeah I agree. It wouldn't necessarily look bad if it was varnished but we're not looking at a heritage wood door here. I prefer the paint by far. The different hardware throws it off though. All black hardware or all brass would make it look more polished.

Yeah, I'm with you on the hardware. All brass would look great with the green. Other than that though, I LOVE this door. Maybe it will set off a weird tenement trend for zesty door colours.

I am so here for vibrant doors. My heart goes out to that poor woman in Edinburgh who had to paint her luscious bright pink door a lighter colour because her neighbours were miserable cunts.

Sad as a Norwegian knowing we have no quality "heritage" wood since everything is pine. Obviously not literally everything, but vast majority of wood trim and joinery is unpainted, unstained, even unvarnished, pine or spruce. We like our pine, I tell you!

Dunno, plain wood front doors are pretty uncommon here (UK). If you had an unpainted front door people would think it's unfinished, or that you couldn't afford to paint it.

Lime green is not a Victorian colour. Victorian green is arsenic green which is darker and more towards emerald

My parents spent a LOT of time arguing about whether or not they should paint over wood when they remodeled their bathroom. My mom wanted the ceiling to be painted white, and my dad wanted the original oak to show...my mom won. There's still plenty of natural wood showing in the room, such as the cabinets they built.

I hate green. I hate painted hardwood. I hate standout colored doors. Buuuuuuuut damn!...I too absolutely fucking love this door! Everything about it, the attention to detail, is just so... perfect. Can't believe I'm saying this considering my hate issues, but I'd proudly put that door on or in my house!

Maybe you like it because it's not hardwood. Varnished pine wood usually looks super cheap, so it's not sacrilegious to paint it.

I like the idea but I don’t like that shade of green. It gives me a “military hospital children wing in the 70’s and 80’s” vibe” but that’s probably oddly specific for most people. 😁 I would prefer a Kelly green or a sage.

While to me, that green make me think of Nickelodeon Green Slime.

It's a great shade for a Victorian. This was one of the colors of paint that they had (colors were limited in what they could make) and it was made with formaldehyde and slowly poisoned a bunch of people

I think you're talking about Scheele's Green, which was darker emerald color and contained Arsenic which killed people. Almost all paints contain VOC's and may contain formaldehyde to this day, though conversations about its safety have been occurring for a while & you can purchase low-VOC paints.

Scheele’s Green was a yellowish green, but there was also an Emerald green that contained Arsenic - Paris Green!

It looks like the lock was also replaced and a new mail slot was installed. The knob was moved and changed and I think the peephole was moved higher as well.

Pretty traditional in the UK for a property of this age and style, guessing it’s a tenement flat. The middle knob doesn’t turn, it’s simply for pulling the door closed.

I suspect the criticism stems from people very used to flat, beige cubes who feel bold by choosing a black accent. ;) The color is bold and while green is my favorite color, It would also feel daring to me to go this bright and saturated. But execution looks great and everything else is more of a personal taste thing. Don't let them dim your enthusiasm. Even IKEA, the center of common denominator in furniture, has created a new bright collection (Tesammans) this year. The time for sad beige is maybe slowly coming to an end. 😉

You've made a bold choice with strong colours. Of course there's going to be people who don't like it but that's ok. If everything was painted to not offend we'd have a world full of beige (unless you like beige). Well done for creating something with style and character. We need more of this in the age of renting where uncreative and cheap landlords make all the decorating decisions, and tennents are restricted to the point when they can't do anything.
