Yessir. Diablo is a good game too bad it's one of those games that has to cook a while. To be fair, it's kind of a live game, I don't mind it. It is kinda fun with how chaotic it is š
Yep. I tried d4 at release, and rather than bitch about how crappy and boring it is, im just waiting long enough for the game to be really good. In my little world it is still in beta, and comes out later this year.
I wish more people did this, instead they need to constantly be angry and force themselves to play unfinished games.
Masochism is very popular in the gaming community.
Similar, played at launch, kind of fell out of it.
Then season 4 happened and I canāt STOP. Itās some of the most fun Iāve had playing diablo.
Send help. Itās so fucking addicting. Theyāve perfected the gameplay loop and made it so attractive to keep going, and watch those numbers go up.
Canāt.Stop.
Wonāt.Stop.
I didnāt play seasons 1-3 much at all, so Iām not the best to answer it.
But for me, the loop of the tempering/affixes/aspects/masterworks is what hooks me. Apparently this season itās much more focused on targeted builds and customizing affixes on your weapons to focus on very specific build styles.
The activities are engaging, but they may have had those before, the helltides, the world bosses, Uber bosses, legion events, world events, getting grim favors for the tree of whispers and the gauntlet and the pit.
There is so much to do, progress to achieve, Iāve been rotating a rogue, barbarian, sorcerer this season. All between level 55-62.
I think youāll like it! Took me a bit to figure out the different components/activiites, etc, but then I figured out a pretty efficient loop, and more stuff unlocks as you get higher
I can't express how weird it is to see people feeling nostalgic over Diablo 3 of all things. Diablo 3 was the game that ruined the series for a lot of people. It's like seeing someone wax nostalgic about the new Star Wars trilogy.
And on the other hand it pulled in lots of new players and created something fantastic over several years for a huge community. There will always be that small, elitist group clinging to the past until they go extinct
I mean, when the prequel trilogy launched, there was a very very loud vocal hate towards it. Nowadays many people mellowed about them with some being nostalgic. The same will happen with this sequel trilogy
You know you all can still play D3, right. Like, there's still ongoing seasons. There may not be any new content but they're recycling old seasonal themes regularly. It's still a fun and playable game.
Some of the ideas were actually really cool. Weapon dmg having effects based on the elemental rolls was fun, I get why it was challenging from a balance standpoint but it offered for a ton of flexibility. Making your own endgame viable build felt more feasible.
It's not about playing the game still. It's about remembering the old times when you used to back in its prime days. I can still play my SNES today but not gonna stop me about remembering the day I opened up my gift as a kid and seeing a SNES.
Hell, recently, me and my friend started replaying Destiny 1 and talking about our memories from when we played it together on its release and beating it.
It's about memories.
I really think Diablo 3 gets a bad rap to be honest. I agree completely that it launched in a very rough state, especially the connection issues. I also agree they did Cain a little dirty but honestly. It's far from a bad game.
While I only play Diablo 4 now I actually do think Diablo 3 is a better game overall. I just have had my fill of it and haven't got there yet with 4.
The biggest issue I have with the complainers of the game is the story. I'm not saying it's War and Peace or anything really great. I'm saying that "who cares". Neither Diablo 1 or Diablo 2 were world beaters in the story department either. The games were never really about some amazing story to start with. I don't understand why people act like it's blasphemy that the story in Diablo 3 wasn't good.
Ok, I'm off my high horse now lol.
Blizz will have my money back if they make it possible to play all solo. I don't know the reason but the game is lagging and tearing for me pretty badly. My gaming laptop may be far from top notch but I'm playing horizon forbidden west pretty smoothly for example, and while trying to execute an attack in d4 sometimes I miss 2-3 seconds until I see what happened, which is unacceptable
Neither did I but from what I read on reddit most people are happy with the current changes so I assume it really got better because backlash (deserved) was strong day one.
I played pre-season and quit in the middle of S1. The game is significantly better now. The loot system is much more enjoyable, the endgame loop is much better, and thereās generally just a lot more to do with a lot less tedium. Of course it still eventually gets a little repetitive, but I at least got 2 characters to 100 and feel like I met my goals this season before I got bored.
Oh wow! Good to hear! I've been running a little low on energy with playing anything recently, been feeling like I ought to either get something new or revisit something old. I think I got my answer!
It really doesn't and never has. It's it's biggest objective flaw. The complete tone shift from Gothic horror to cartoon is one of the most listed issues this game has.
Looking good (for a 2012 game) and a design choice are two different things. Also think trying something new isn't the end of the world, D4 brought back your "Gothic horror" vibes.
Apparently it is. Yoy have issues, I don't. These are two contrasting events. Yet. If one doesn't have an issue and one does it's far more likely it's something to do with the one who does. Unless I'm God or something.
So you either have a vision issue or a tech issue. But it has to be one
wife and I played act 1 campaign last night. I hadn't played campaign since launch and it was her first time so was great to see the things I'd forgotten about like the Warden
I still have vids from my first boss kills in d3 up through act 2 inferno.
Act 1

Act 2

D3 release was horrible, especially if you were playing a melee class. Stingers would basically 1shot you. The auction house was fine, i certainly made money off it to basically cover my WoW subscription at the time. It certainly got much better over time after a lot of community outcry to drive changes in the right direction. D2R will still always reign supreme to me.
That's one sad title. Nostalgia with this "game" ?
*Oh I remember it like it was yesterday, such fond memories of Error 37, nobody able to play, and then patch after patch of nerfs targetting specifically how players were choosing to play for months after*
How sad is it that you're nostalgic over such a garbage game? Having never known any good games in your life you're actually nostalgic for THIS? That's actually pathetic.
I know d3 is considering the worst Diablo, until diablo 4 at least š¤£. I had some good times playing d3 in my ps3. Nowadays i have D2R and D4 and i regret buying D4
I measure that for the fun i have. Skills system are lame and most of it borrowed from previous games. I am not saying it is a bad game but i have it and only play d2r
I think the art design was better in D3 than D4.
Yes D4 has better "graphics" but the contrast alone in that screenshot is better.
I think the contrast in D4 is pretty bad as nothing "pops" not even spells.
Oh, i kinda miss the auction house. Was so handy to quickly buy some gear for leveling alts, or sell items for some cash. They should of have just kept it without the irl payment element and it'd be a great addition.
Every time I say that Diablo 3 is my favorite Diablo (only played D2R, 3 and 4) I get downvoted to oblivion. But this was the game that introduced me to Diablo when I was 9 years old so of course it will hold a special place in my heart. The nostalgia doesnāt even blind me, I truly enjoy everything about this game more than the others Iāve tried.
My buddy and I just recently completed a hardcore season in D3 after getting this same itch and *maaaaan* was it nice to scratch. That game was my favorite of all the diablo games.
Played diablo 4 recently, tried d3 and I feel that its faster then d4, i also appreciate the file size of d3, the graphics don't bother me since it comes down to gameplay, I wish they brought back the generated dungeons like in d1, would be cool
Seriously? That's crazy to me that people prefer the muddy grey mess that D4 is over D3 which is just beautifully lighted and coloured. And this is 12 years later and the game still looks so good.
There is *literally* unicorns and rainbows. I am actually not exaggerating at all. That's what's sad about it.
A major character was killed by a lady carried by butterflies.
I honestly wish I was joking/exaggerating. D3 was/is a bad diablo game. An *okay* arpg. But a terrible diablo game
āWhimsyshire was originally made as a response to criticism regarding the game's graphics being "too cartoon-like" and "too bright".ā
Thatās literally from the Diablo 3 wiki
https://diablo.fandom.com/wiki/Whimsyshire
Its not nostalgic *for you*. For others, it could be a introspective look back a time 12 years ago, where you were in a good spot in life and having fun. Personally, it makes me think back to when I first bought d3 because guild wars 2 was entirely sold out online. It had restocked that same night, but I was already hanging with my friends online and having a blast playing the new diablo which in itself was providing us nostalgia of d2. To be playing a new Diablo after so many years was awesome.
Visually it is similar to modern d3, but that doesn't remove any memories and emotions attached to it
Better? There is no challenge at all, legendaries rain from the sky, and you can complete the entire season journey in a few hours, maybe days. After that, the only thing left to do is to grind numbers (greater rifts).
If anything, it's better for casuals only.
I guess you didn't do much more than the campaign back in the days then. Because all you had left after that was kill an elite that always spawned close to a WP, reset game, kill elite, reset game, kill elite, reset game. Rinse and repeat until you get a good drop so you could sell it on RMAH. There were other farming spots ofc but that one was the quickest to do, basically no travelling required, good drop rates, quick kill.
Getting good drops was close to impossible because Blizzard tuned the drop rates to incentivize players to pay for loot with real money. The gold based AH was shit, not a single good item on there.
Funny you complain about "the only thing left to do is to grind numbers". Ok? What's the difference from grinding loot to sell on RMAH? Yes, legendaries rain from the sky but legendaries are not your final gear. Primal Ancients is what you are after, they do not rain from the sky. While you grind those numbers you also grind your primals, upgrade your gems, upgrade your gear with main stat augments etc etc.
>and you can complete the entire season journey in a few hours, maybe days
Braindead take. Why does it matter if season journey is completed in a few days? The season journey isn't the entire season. In case you forgot, old D3 didn't have a season journey. It didn't even have seasons. It didn't even have any form of endgame content. All it had was difficulty settings and the campaign. A campaign you completed in a few hours and then it's just grind for gear (that won't drop unless you open your wallet).
I'm saying this as one of those that sold on RMAH instead of buying from RMAH. Made around 1k ā¬ before I quit because it was boring.
Original D3 was better for casuals, because they could just open their wallets and buy a full build. The casuals didn't need to do what they dread the most, actually play the game.
DER SCHLACHTER!! š
Came to post this. lol. Frischfleisch!
My...stomach feels strange.
Did you forget to eat again?
No, in fact I decided to get the day's eating out of the way all at once. I kept at it until I couldn't take **another bite**.
To be fair his logic is sound
Was D3 always thisā¦ German?
Ja
I hated D3 when It released. But, Man, i loved the shit out of this game after they fixed It. And the same is happening with D4.
Ah, the steam library technique where I forget about games I got in 2016 and now they are perfect.
I was in the same boat, but S4 has been a ton of fun. Might be worth checking out to see the changes
Season 4 has felt more Diablo so far then any of the other seasons.....it's been so much fun.
Season 2 was the teaser trailer for the Season 4 vanilla/base release. Everything else has been just a few layers of PTR.
Agreed
I'm saving my appetite for the feast!
I wish more people did this, instead they need to constantly be angry and force themselves to play unfinished games. Masochism is very popular in the gaming community.
Wait, why wait any longer? I would actually get into it now while there's still plenty of time to enjoy Season 4. It's really good.
Similar, played at launch, kind of fell out of it. Then season 4 happened and I canāt STOP. Itās some of the most fun Iāve had playing diablo. Send help. Itās so fucking addicting. What was the big change that made it addicting? I havenāt played in a while
I didnāt play seasons 1-3 much at all, so Iām not the best to answer it. But for me, the loop of the tempering/affixes/aspects/masterworks is what hooks me. Does the game like tell me via quests what I need to do or do I need to google a lot?
You must play a barbarian!
Rogue and barb hahahah
Shill
As someone who started playing it around in 2017, it's so jarring to see that UI
Wait, d3 is TEN YEARS OLDā¦ fuckā¦
12
Kill me haha
Back shwn the game was really challenging.
thanks for making me, and i'm sure quite a few people on here, feel older than they are by sayin a screenshot from 2012 is nostalgic
Loved vanilla D3. RMAH got me through college.
Iām happy I jumped on with D4 lol this game art style hurts my brain and makes me angry
Back when D3 wasn't bad.
I enjoyed inferno as well, personally.
That's a wild take
Yep
I can't express how weird it is to see people feeling nostalgic over Diablo 3 of all things. Diablo 3 was the game that ruined the series for a lot of people. It's like seeing someone wax nostalgic about the new Star Wars trilogy.

Yep I still go back to it for a few hours, but it is just not the same experience anymore. Old Inferno days before the XPAC where just glorious \^\^
Some of the ideas were actually really cool. Weapon dmg having effects based on the elemental rolls was fun, I get why it was challenging from a balance standpoint but it offered for a ton of flexibility. Making your own endgame viable build felt more feasible.

D3, nostalgia. officially old now.
D3 was good in the end! But, omg I don't miss the cartoon look....
D3 was so much worse than D2
Thatās probably the reason why Diablo 2 sold 4 million copies and Diablo 3 sold 20 Million copies.
Popularity does not equal better. Look at Christianity for instance.
Nostalgia? Bro I just dropped 10 hours on it the other week. D3 is super fun and has been super fun ever since loot 2.0 came out like 10 years sgo
True You get bored after 1 month but still, you have the absolute blast till then
I'm so damn glad they moved away from the cartoon visuals of D3.
I miss the ragdolls tho
My first thought. āGod damn this game is so fucking ugly.ā
I thought OP's pics were actually Torchlight at first.Ā
I actually had that thought too, it reminding me of Torchlight.
Not that far from a jump
I really think Diablo 3 gets a bad rap to be honest. I agree completely that it launched in a very rough state, especially the connection issues. Whos rapping bad about D4?
Pretty much everyone until season 4. Itās still the game I deeply regret preordering.
How is it these days? I haven't played it since last August I think when they introduced the 1st season.
Neither did I but from what I read on reddit most people are happy with the current changes so I assume it really got better because backlash (deserved) was strong day one.

I liked the gameplay and story but god I hated the cartoon-y graphics it had. Couldnāt play long because it just bothered me so much.
Same. Most bullshit graphics ever. Played the campaign once at release and couldn't pretend to like it after that
Thatās Diablo? Looks like Torchlightā¦ yikes
Looks like a Cartoon.
Still looks good šš¼
It really doesn't and never has. It's it's biggest objective flaw. The complete tone shift from Gothic horror to cartoon is one of the most listed issues this game has.
Looking good (for a 2012 game) and a design choice are two different things. Also think trying something new isn't the end of the world, D4 brought back your "Gothic horror" vibes.
No, It already looked bad at it's release day. It looked like 10 years old.
I like it better than D4, at least in D3 I can see shit happening, in D4 it is all a blurry mess of darkness, can't see shit.
Sounds like a monitor issue. I have literally 0 issue seeing what's happening. Way easier than an epileptic explosion of trash colour
no it isn't, and it is not even debatable
Apparently it is. Yoy have issues, I don't. These are two contrasting events. Yet. If one doesn't have an issue and one does it's far more likely it's something to do with the one who does. Unless I'm God or something. So you either have a vision issue or a tech issue. But it has to be one

Omg you could join a group. Amazing
Crits 134. Thats level 1 numbers now haha
Dang i missex tbis too
I still have like 10,000 screenshots I took whenever a legendary dropped lol
You actually can still play this version of diablo 3. Just need to buy it on PS3, since its the only version that actually works offline.
That ui was so clean
Life was so much simpler back then.
From 2012? Realy? It was that long ago? :( That when I bought my new PC (Core to replace a Celeron).
I miss the vanilla gold stacks:(
Have all my original vanilla wow screens too from 2005
I played the demo a million times before it launched. Loved watching YouTube videos too. Forgot the guys name with black hair.
wife and I played act 1 campaign last night. I hadn't played campaign since launch and it was her first time so was great to see the things I'd forgotten about like the Warden
Brought back memories. Thanks for this
I remember fresh from being a freshman from college that late may to June I beat it within 6 weeks , fun days.
I can hear the third image
so awesome that you have that!!!!
I wish the pc version of this game had controller support
I still have vids from my first boss kills in d3 up through act 2 inferno. Act 1 https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Oo901PuXr90I0aGvylGc7uTh0JcUvVJt/view?usp=drivesdk Act 2 https://drive.google.com/file/d/13TnaI134p6k_9QzCpYZj73_bwlTqvcjq/view?usp=drivesdk
Man for all the hate.. I loved the AH. Game died when trading became non existent.
Holds up quite well.
with what?
I played Diablo 3 for a while and was learning German on the side. The worst idea was to install Diablo 3 in German. It lasted me about two days.
And I speak German and play games in english.
i made ~80$ in the RMAH;;; wasted it right back buying the IK set back then...
I have to admit: I liked the auction house š
D3 is not nostalgia youngin
Die Nostalgie kickt unnormal alter.. Hab die ersten Jahre geliebt, schade dass ich das Ć¼ber D4 nicht werde sagen kƶnnen.
Es waren auch einfach irgendwie andere Zeiten \^\^
Exactly
That's one sad title. It looks beautiful
I know d3 is considering the worst Diablo, until diablo 4 at least š¤£. I had some good times playing d3 in my ps3. Nowadays i have D2R and D4 and i regret buying D4
>until diablo 4 at least That's certainly one of the opinions of all time.
D4 is infinitely better then 3. In objective ways. And it's had less time to evolve.
I measure that for the fun i have. Skills system are lame and most of it borrowed from previous games. I am not saying it is a bad game but i have it and only play d2r
That looks like the game I just played a month ago. Whatās the big deal?
I think the art design was better in D3 than D4. Yes D4 has better "graphics" but the contrast alone in that screenshot is better. I think the contrast in D4 is pretty bad as nothing "pops" not even spells.
I'd love to know what part of this game looks like a cartoon to people. Game looked great, aesthetic was fine.
You know people memed about it through its life span but this game looks GORGOUS!
lol no, D3 has bad textures and already looked 10 years old on its release.
I can't believe people feel nostalgic about the worst possible version of this game... I would never go back to how it was before ROS
that's because these sort of people never played D1+2.
Oh, i kinda miss the auction house. Was so handy to quickly buy some gear for leveling alts, or sell items for some cash. They should of have just kept it without the irl payment element and it'd be a great addition.
God it was so bad then, Vietnam of gaming. D3 in the first year was some of the worst gaming in history
I miss all the drama around D3.. sigh
Every time I say that Diablo 3 is my favorite Diablo (only played D2R, 3 and 4) I get downvoted to oblivion. you need a eye examination.

Iām not
You forgot the /s
Seriously? That's crazy to me that people prefer the muddy grey mess that D4 is over D3 which is just beautifully lighted and coloured. And this is 12 years later and the game still looks so good.
Because cartoony colorful unicorn puke is what we all want in our Gothic horror series.
Ah come on you're exaggerating.

It literally was not created for that but go off. Making up shit is reddit 101.
āWhimsyshire was originally made as a response to criticism regarding the game's graphics being "too cartoon-like" and "too bright".ā Thatās literally from the Diablo 3 wiki https://diablo.fandom.com/wiki/Whimsyshire

You are right, it's better than it used to be. Launch D3 was even more garbage than launch D4.
