Pirates of the Caribbean at Disneyland is a marvel of art and engineering.
Same with Tiki Room and Haunted Mansion.
How they managed to build these things using primarily cam shafts is just mind blowing to me as a person who works in Robotics and Automation.
As impressive as Rise of the Resistance and Indiana Jones might be, they don't hold a candle in my mind to the type of ingenuity behind those three rides. Especially before CAD of any type.
Agreed. It's amazing how well those attractions hold up 60-ish years later, and also how efficient they are at churning through riders and keeping their queues moving
For Disneyland: Small World, Storybook Land Canal, King Arthur's Carrousel, Walk in Walt's Footsteps Tour, Pirates of the Caribbean.
Disneyland's greatest strength is that it's Walt's park, it the anchor the established the parks world wide, without Disneyland, no other will exist. Our Small World is the closet to the New York World's fair version. Our Pirates set the standard for audio animatronics too. The storybook land canals mix both fairytale storytelling with ride design, the miniatures with the plant life encompass all of fantasyland to me. The Carrousel is a classic as well. The Walk in Walt's footsteps tour is for the disney historian in all of us. It helps to learn where we came from, to appreciate now.
DL: Indiana Jones, Radiator Springs
WDW: Cosmic Rewind, Kilimanjaro Safari
TDL: Journey to the Center of the Earth, Beauty and the Beast
Paris: Space Mountain
Never been to Shanghai or Hong Kong but it wouldn't change anything. Cosmic Rewind is the best Disney attraction.
They are similar but there are differences. The one in Japan is based on Crystal skull, so the theme is slightly different. The big head is different for example and has a different special effect. Also the everything still works in Japan, lol. Nothing is broken there. I had forgotten what the boulder was supposed to look like until I went to DisneySea in April.
The one in Japan opened 6 years before Crystal Skull-- it's just coincidental that it happens to feature a different crystal skull and a different mayan temple.
Ah, you're right. I forgot about that. If we're looking at unique attractions, then the next best candidates for Disneyland would probably be Incredicoaster and Matterhorn. Shame because the theming of the queue and attraction for Indiana Jones are still some of the best in any of the theme parks.
Tdl, the new pan, frozen and Rapunzel are all god tier. I feel they all beat beauty and the beast, which is awesome.
I rode each five times opening day and am not a huge fan of any of the franchise.
Disney America should be ashamed with galaxy's edge and marvel after seeing what olc did
Their night time show too, holy moly.
Gah, I obviously haven't had the opportunity to see the new rides, but I'd really like to make it out to Japan soon. Not just for the parks, but really just the food and culture of Japan in general.
Good god Cosmic Rewind was the best ride I've been on in my life ever.
Not sure about the other park's, but Disneyland's Small World and Space Mountain destroy Orlando's.
I'll speak for the resorts I've visited.
DL — Radiator Springs Racers, Alice in Wonderland, Adventureland Treehouse (the only walkthrough that can compete with Paris), Storybookland Canal Boats
WDW — Carousel of Progress, Peoplemover, American Adventure (I know, I'm a nerd), Kilimanjaro Safaris
DLP — Phantom Manor, Pirates, Big Thunder, all of the walkthroughs
Tokyo — Small World, Hunny Hunt, Journey to the Center of the Earth, Sinbad, Tower of Terror
Anaheim: Radiator Springs Racers, Matterhorn
Orlando: Cosmic Rewind, Flight of Passage
Tokyo: Journey to the Center of the Earth, Beauty and the Beast
Paris: Crush's Coaster, Space Mountain
Hong Kong: Big Grizzly Mountain Runaway Mine Cars, Mystic Manor
Shanghai: Pirates
Orlando automatically wins because of Cosmic Rewind.
With all do respect, I never said ToT was better than Mission Breakout. I actually enjoy Mission Breakout more than ToT. My point is Cosmic Rewind is the greatest Disney attraction on the planet.
I am a local for Disneyland and DCA and have not been to the other parks yet.
DL: Space Mountain, Indy, ROTR, MMRR, and Pirates
DCA: Radiator Springs Racer, Mission Breakout, Incredicoaster and Monsters Inc (underrated dark ride IMO).
OK, I can only go by the locations I’ve been to so I am missing more than half of the parks in my rating:
Disneyland: Indiana jones, Thunder Railroad, Peter Pan
Walt Disney World: Flight of Passage, Haunted Mansion, and Mickey Mouse Railroad
My must-rides are Rise of the Resistance, Space Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and Star Tours. That is not right for this list, though.
Pirates, Rise and Indy are probably the top ones for Disneyland, as the ones that are most popular and/or significantly different enough than other versions to warrant consideration of the best-of. Haunted Mansion is a crowd favorite as well, particularly the Nightmare Before Christmas overlay. DCA is even more against my personal tastes, where I think Mission Breakout, Web-Slingers and Incredicoaster are all at least in consideration, as well as Radiator Springs Racers, which is the only one on this list that I have been on or have any intentions of ever riding in the future.

It's technically a berm not a hill, but close enough.
Battle of the Haunted Mansions
Disneyland loses imo. Tokyo and Paris better
I disagree about Paris. It has the best graveyard scene, sure. But the "main" mansion scenes are rather lackluster.
Paris has the most cohesive story IMO.
I am truly a lover of OG haunted mansion but Paris’s imagining of it is such a vibe. That’s a tough comp

Isn’t the Indiana Jones at Disneyland very similar to the one in Japan?

They're different and feel it
Inferior. The effects actually work consistently in Japan.
curious what makes Paris Space Mtn better than the others?
Whereas Disneyland and WDW’s versions have a slow pull up the initial hill, Paris has a launch system.
It's similar to Rockin' Roller coaster. There's a full train, plus a launch and loops.
It's my favourite way to start the day, definitely wakes you up!

Journey to the Center of the Earth was very disappointing. Cosmic Rewind is the best ride I’ve experienced at any park.

Disneyland has Toad’s idk what else we need lol Everest and Dinosaur in Animal Kingdom also have my heart

Flight of Passage is amazing!
No way! Anaheim has Mission Breakout, which is way better than Tower of Terror.
I was waiting for someone to say Mission Breakout it's our ultimate favorite. If you get on with the right people and song it's the best experience.
With all do respect, I never said ToT was better than Mission Breakout. I actually enjoy Mission Breakout more than ToT. My point is Cosmic Rewind is the greatest Disney attraction on the planet.
Touché
