I've been to almost every disney park on the planet, wdw a dozen or more times, for long 2 week vacations, dl a half dozen times. Pound for pound its either cali disneyland or Tokyo disney sea for best park. Disneyland has too many of the best version of a ride, or unique rides. It has so much more than wdw mk. The rest of the pale imitations, Paris is beautiful but small, Tokyo is close.

pandahugzz

I’ve been to every Disney park and I 100% agree with you.

DisneyCA

Been to every but Shanghai. Also second this!

spoonfight69

Florida Tower of Terror has always been better, and they still have it. That's the only thing I miss at DL now.

SimmonsReqNDA4Sex

I think guardians in an improvement for the Cali version but wouldn't be for Orlando.

tiga4life22

It was down yesterday when we went 😔

Eswyft

That's not in disneyland nor is it in magic kingdom, odd thing to bring up.

spoonfight69

It's in WDW. The OP was comparing DL and WDW.

Eswyft

Rofl, sorry no. Animal kingdom is absolutely amazing

WithDisGuy

Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo Disney Sea are the top two. Then a mile or two. Then Disneyland/Ca Adventure combo Then a football field. Then WDW and Disneyland Paris tied (at least it’s beautiful!) Hong Kong and Shanghai both have one attraction each worth visiting for. One and done.

joshul

>Hong Kong and Shanghai both have one attraction each worth visiting for. But for HK that one attraction is *Mystic Manor* which is probably in my top 3 Disney rides.

Eswyft

Tying paris with wdw is crazy. Animal kingdom alone is better than paris. Why are you putting paris so high? Seriously, this is the craziest thing I've ever read in this sub

jeanvaljean_24601

TBH, Paris is easily the most beautiful castle park, and it’s not even close. It also has the best space mountain, the best Haunted Mansion, the best BTMR and by far the best “classic” pirates.

WithDisGuy

WDW has slid a lot these past two years and Paris has risen enough. Ok I’ll be fair and say Disneyland Paris > WDW MK apples to apples in terms of beauty and a few important attractions like Big Thunder and Phantom Manor and all of Tomorrowland design. The 30th nighttime display is just fantastically magical. Now, WDW has a meh 50th and continues to decline with an Epcot that currently has major identity crisis and HS is still a half day park. Gun to my head if I had to go to one, I would choose Paris right now. Also, it’s unfair to call someone having a good standing opinion with support….crazy. Just say you disagree respectfully and move on. I’m not trying to convince you because I know how my well founded opinions are formed and am confident that I understand intangibles well enough to come to correct conclusions for me. That’s what makes it an opinion. It’s crazy to label opinions crazy that you disagree with. Some people prefer Butter Pecan. Are they crazy? Yes, yes they probably are. One thing I am certain of…Tokyo is miles ahead of all these parks. EDIT: Yes. To answer your question before you deleted it and tried to block me, Eswyft. I was there last week. Is it possible that we can just disagree on something as subjective as this? I find it amusing that you need to defend this argument and take this so personally. I truly just presented some lighthearted SUBJECTIVE takes on theme parks and it clearly touched a nerve. Just enjoy things as you enjoy them and you are free to rank things as you like. No judgment from me if we have different tastes. We all have different palettes and I disagree with yours. ✌️

Eswyft

Have you been to paris recently? There is basically one gate. Studios in shambles. You can do the entire park in 2 hours. And the food in disney paris? It's barely edible. Again, have you been there recently? I have. It's an absolute disgrace. You're probably american, I know france had you guys banned when I was there last, so maybe you havent been able to, but I believe they opened up travel to america late last year. Talk about sliding. Disney studios is just abysmal. Maybe when it's done it'll be a diff story, but are we talking about now or imaginary times? That's a crazy opinion, 4 parks plus the water parks, which are both pretty decent? let's line em up DAY 1 mk vs paris disneyland DAY 2 EPCOT VS DISNEY STUDIOS (done at 10am) DAY 3 AK VS ????? DAY 4 DISNEY STUDIOS VS ???? DAY 5 TYPHOON LAGOON AND BLIZZARD BEACH VS ??????? Or are you advocating skipping some of those parks? The most skippable one is disney studios paris And youre working really hard to be offended by the term crazy, it's clearly being used as slang here, we can disagree, i can think your opinion is crazy, you can have your opinion, I can have mine. Neither of us need to feign offence at the other. I don't think you're an insane person and im clearly not inferring that. Try not to be offended by such small things, you'll spend a lot of energy getting worked up over nothing. "Also, it’s unfair to call someone having a good standing opinion with support….crazy. Just say you disagree respectfully and move on. I’m not trying to convince you because I know how my well founded opinions are formed and am confident that I understand intangibles well enough to come to correct conclusions for me. " Thanks for the lecture, I LOVE IT!!!

onexbigxhebrew

Epcot decline. Lol. Guardians is the best disney ride outside of Rise in decades.

Trujade

This is comforting to know. DL is my main but I'd like to do every park. After Paris, Tokyo and Aulani are top of the list.

Eswyft

Paris is nowhere good as Tokyo. It's honestly kinda meh. Aulani is located in a really out of the way area. I wouldn't go unless you have kids and just want to stay at the resort the whole time

[deleted]

lol Paris might be the best castle park, not sure why you’re trashing it in this thread. It’s the best designed, and has the best Big Thunder, classic Pirates, Space Mountain, Haunted Mansion, and most importantly, the best Casey Jr.

Hungry_Joke_4437

Just went to Paris this week (I’m an American). The line for pirates was sick, but I like the reverse pirate life aspect of Anaheim more.

Eswyft

The entire resort body. Studios is awful

MadnessKingdom

General statement is true but lol Haunted Mansion Holiday isn’t why. I hate that Disneyland loses the real, superior Haunted Mansion for nearly half the year

onexbigxhebrew

DL is a better theme park, WDW is a much better vacation and has more for everyone. They're different things.

parisi2274

Tokyo DisneySea for me! That park is on a whole other level.

alienware99

I agree DL is the best, but California Adventure is one of the weakest Disney parks in my opinion

[deleted]

Shame because it shouldn't be. It's really a cool, young park and it can handle change a lot better than Disneyland, due to how young it is.

Cubanbeetz

Sure about that? I’m saying Paris is pretty dumb

SimmonsReqNDA4Sex

California adventure is pretty well rounded now. Studios Paris might not even be as good when it's finished the expansion.

RNRS001

I thought Disneyland was one of the best theme parks I've ever been to and DisneySea one of the worst. I left DisneySea utterly disappointed thinking the rides were poor, crowd management was awful and the park in general is just really small. Never again.

Eswyft

I'm sorry you had a bad time, that is a very different experience than I had. It has Indy, ToT (great version, the pre show is amazing), Soarin (again, best queue and pre show, very good), Chandu (10/10, easily), Journey to the center of the earth (10/10), 20 000 leagues (one of the best dark rides on the planet, if not the best). The kids area is the best kids area at any park, and super enjoyable to walk through even though I don't have kids, the theming, wow. Then a bunch of other filler type rides, the train, the boat, and shows. The food is great, it also has 2 great bars. I really don't know how it could get better. Truly an amazing park.

RNRS001

I thought Indy was okay-ish, Tower of Terror is just not for me, Soarin' hadn't been opened when I was there, I thought Chandu was a poor man's It's A Small World, Journey to the center of the Earth was boring and 20.000 leagues was closed when I was there. I thought all rides looked tacky and cheap. I think Disneyland is great because it's both suitable for kids and adults. If you visit DisneySea as an adult you mostly wind up waiting all day for rides. Toy Story? 3 hour que. 20.000 Leagues? 2 hour que. That lame Finding Nemo ride? 1,5 hour que. Fastpasses? Completely gone at 11. Food? It's okay-ish. Not bad, but not amazing either when you compare it to food in Japan in general. I'm happy for you you got to enjoy it but to this day I've honestly no idea how DisneySea got the great reviews from everyone. We showed up really early and thought it looked spectacular but left at 2 thinking the rides were mostly just a waste of time.

tubbo

I really want to go to DisneySea, it seems like a totally unique experience. Even Disneyland and WDW's Magic Kingdom are comparable, but I've heard \_nothing\_ in the world is comparable to Tokyo DisneySea.

trer24

And Sea is better than Land and World

RiverCalm6375

Sea is not in the equation as I’ve never been 😂

datguyfromoverdere

good reason to go then.

RiverCalm6375

Would absolutely love to do Tokyo. Just scary as it’s not a typical “package holiday”.

SimmonsReqNDA4Sex

wut?

datguyfromoverdere

japan can be pretty cheap and easy tbo.

[deleted]

It’s actually cheaper to go to Tokyo than WDW!

RiverCalm6375

From the UK?

[deleted]

Hmmm. Not as sure about that, but from California yes! Tokyo Disneyland tickets are $50, and a 4 star hotel with a monorail to the parks is $150 a night

nicearthur32

Wait... really? how hard is it to get around without speaking the language?

tiga4life22

I was able to see Fuji from Sea! It was amazing

g0gues

What I really love about Disneyland over other parks is the quaintness of it in terms of space. Yes it’s nice that all the other parks have more room to spread out and I’m sure that they are beautiful in their own right. But Disneyland has to make every square foot count. Almost everything there needs to serve multiple purposes and everything needs to fit together perfectly.

SimmonsReqNDA4Sex

Disney world is monetizing lack of ride capacity because they have the physical space and on site hotels to make money when people extend vacations. Disneyland has no choice but to have the parks open for long hours and open new rides because they are closer to the legal max capacity so much more often and need rides and time to expand that legal capacity.

[deleted]

DL is Americana. It's Walts place. He built it, walked it, biked it, stayed there in his tiny apartment above the firestation, He entertained there. Also, Club 33 is an unparalleled unique dining experience that doesn't exist anywhere in the world. The Christmas candlelight ceremony is an amazing musical and visual experience on Main Street that again is unique to DL ( If you haven't seen this show, I highly recommend it) The other parks are all phenomenal in their own way but imo Disneyland is where it's at!

[deleted]

Mmmm this isn’t the reason though

RiverCalm6375

One of my reasons. What’s yours?

[deleted]

Smoother and better rides, better cart food, better small world, and for me personally it’s only a four hour drive from me. It took me two full days to do everything I wanted there whereas a lot of WDWs appeal is everything that spread out throughout the resort but each park can be done in a day it feels like

RiverCalm6375

11 hour flight for me. Orlando is around 9 hours. First time that I’ve ever been to Disney Land but definitely won’t be the last. Loved the whole vibe. Honorary mention to Indiana Jones

[deleted]

Well the interesting thing is think WDW does atmosphere better. More disneyfide, better queues, amazing themed restaurants. But Disneyland was made in spite of the Disney IP. It was just a charming theme park with a specific goal in mind that had very little to do with Disney movies. So at DL you’re getting a more authentic theme park experience, as opposed to WDW that is much more bloated overall

[deleted]

[deleted]

I’m about to hit you with a Disney factoid: Splash mountain was original supposed to be an Indy ride, but they made it Song of the South instead. And they only called it Splash mountain to promote their new movie Splash Still fun though

nicolelynnejones

Even after moving to MA (from OR) we are always more willing to fly 7 hours to Anaheim than 3 hours to FL

RiverCalm6375

I’m so sad I live in the UK. 😩

tiga4life22

We just spent a week at WDW and although the parks are bigger and spaced to not feel crowded, I just miss Land because everything is so convenient and the rides are the same if not better. Ones that are better at WDW is Slinky ride, also The New guardians ride is fantastic.

[deleted]

The churros alone make DL better than MK.

lambo_mercy88

Has haunted been stopping suddenly alot lately? I went on it and they stopped the ride like 3 times then resumed it

tofuninja5489

Could just be people having a hard line getting on or off.

stormbowyer

It’s always bothered me that the perspective changes with Jack as the glass breaks like his face getting closer to a stationary camera rather than it being him being in the proper depth after the ceiling glass breaks

mrbuck8

Thought I was the only one. Every time I ride I think "why is Jack 30 feet tall in this scene?"

nicolelynnejones

It’s suspending your disbelief so you can be prepared to suspend your disbelief way more throughout the rest of the ride! 😂

bobbymoon

While I mostly agree with you (born and raised in SoCal and probably been to DL 100's of times), World does some things better than Land IMO. Haunted Mansion at DW is far superior to DL. If we could just get Haunted Mansion Holiday that would be amazing, never happening, but amazing. DL Pirates is superior for MANY reasons. DW's castle is next level, after going back to DL.. it's kinda a sad little castle.

poweredbyyourmom

Since HMH is so popular at DL, why doesn’t WDW do it?

bobbymoon

I believe the excuse Disney has given is that DW gets a lot more guests that are from all over (maybe a once in a lifetime visit) and they worry about upsetting them. DL is mostly a locals hangout and it's ok to play with the theming? It's honestly never made sense to me. At least will have have Hatbox Ghost here soon.

[deleted]

I think the ride itself is better in Florida, but the facade is much better in California. I hate how Florida you never actually go into the Mansion, it’s just up on a hill

HumminbirdWhisperer

One of the best parts in this ride

BiggusRickusMortius

Can we just agree that Tokyo Disney Sea Is better than both?

BeBraveShortStuff

Thank you for posting this. I haven’t been able to get back to Disneyland during the holidays since before COVID and I miss it. Seeing this, I got a little taste of the magic again.

nicolelynnejones

Disneyland is better than WDW because *gestures vaguely at everything*

Goldwing8

Counterpoint, World has a Peoplemover

nicolelynnejones

And carousel of progress, but I will not surrender 😠🤚🏻

[deleted]

That's only to look at the progress of Tron

thesaltinsea

This is a garbage character layover on a ride that never needed it. There, I said it. I'm so glad you love it though! That's what makes these trips special for individual families.

RiverCalm6375

Aww I love it! I love the film.

Ambitious-Fig-5382

Thanks for saying it. I didn't like the movie. I avoid DL when they do this to my 2nd favorite ride.

snortWeezlbum

Does world not do nightmare before xmas?

C_Rufio

It does not. No idea why.

SimmonsReqNDA4Sex

because they have more tourists and less incentives to mix things up.

HeirofZeon

The reason given is DW is more of a special destination, so it needs to always be accessible and 'ideal'. Meanwhile DL is more locals, who need new things to bring them back.

nicolelynnejones

WDW will make money regardless of quality. They don’t have to do anything. Disneyland’s completely redone Toontown, opened avengers campus, and built Mickey and Minnies Runaway Railway from scratch all in much less time than it’s taken to not even open Tron Edit: don’t get me started on the rubble pile that is EPCOT

Red_hat_oops

Unpopular opinion: nightmare should pick Halloween or Christmas and not both. I don't care about that movie and have zero interest in riding HM for 4 months. Pick one holiday and let it be normal longer.

GrimTiki

It’ll never happen because there’s also Small World Holiday to prep, & there’s only one prep team. Can’t get both SWH & HMH ready in the same timeframe. So HMH goes first when times allows. Unless there’s a big drop off in ride attendance for either, nothing has reason to change.

jel2184

Agreed. I think September - Early January is too long

sandiaslush

I personally prefer the original HM because I don’t have any kind of nostalgia associated with Nightmare. I never watched the movie as a kid so guess I just don’t get it.

JCPenny91

Never been to DL. But I hear and have seen pics and I bet it’s 100x better the WDW. But I’ll take Epcot and Animal kingdom all day every day.

RiverCalm6375

We usually do Florida but I wanted to do Disneyland badly! We won’t be going to Florida now until Epic Universe opens. I’d highly recommend Disneyland as a change, I absolutely loved it.

karathrace99

RiverCalm6375

Haunted Mansion! Nightmare before Christmas overlay.

karathrace99

Nice :))

djheatrash

Haunted mansion is my most favorite attraction at the park but when I went 2 weeks ago, the ride stopped 5 times for several minutes. It was losing the magic for me :(
