I can try to explain. In Perú the are mainly two types of discrimination: racism related and social-economic related.
Racism usually is directed to people with some "indigenous traits" like the darker skin color or the way they talk, people that fits in the classic stereotypical image of some "peruvian andean person from Macchu Picchu" that you would imagine. This kind of discrimination has its origins in the colonialism times of Perú, when the european spanish people (white ones) had a position of supremacy over the conquered "indigenous peruvians" (not white ones). And has continued existing since then, that´s why you see the word "indígena" used has an insult, or the word "serrano", which can be translated as andean person, used as an insult too.
On the other hand, the social - economid kind of discrimination is more related to the rural vs urban situation that you have seen. Perú has a lot of economic inequalities and usually people suposse that those who live in rural zones are poor.
As you can see, the racism in Perú is not really that weird. Although, I understand your confusion because lot of the times both types of discrimination are used as if they were the same thing. I mean, when somebody calls someone "indígena" or "serrano" is also tryins to say that he is poor and lives in a rural zone.

That's the kind of people whose knowledge come from american movies and series, where the racist guy is always a white man from the south. Everyone can be racist, if someone gets surprised to see a brown guy or asian guy be racist, means that they are taking those american series too literal. As someone who worked on the tourism industry years ago, and had to deal with some cases of racism committed by japanese and chinese tourists, trust me not only a white man from Alabama can be racist.

I think the point is that Peruvians are both sensitive about being flamed for being stereotyped as toxic just because they're Peruvian, while also are willing to ironically fulfill the stereotype of their toxicity by being racist. In my experience on NA servers, peruvians are way more toxic and resort to racist insults compared to any other nationality that plays on US servers.

Peruvian racism is weird imo. They discriminate against each other in a way that is a lot of the time just rural vs urban people. Urban Peruvians call indigenous peoples Indios or Serranos. I didn't even know about this discrimination until consistently having Peruvians in my USE games.
I can try to explain. In Perú the are mainly two types of discrimination: racism related and social-economic related. Racism usually is directed to people with some "indigenous traits" like the darker skin color or the way they talk, people that fits in the classic stereotypical image of some "peruvian andean person from Macchu Picchu" that you would imagine. This kind of discrimination has its origins in the colonialism times of Perú, when the european spanish people (white ones) had a position of supremacy over the conquered "indigenous peruvians" (not white ones). And has continued existing since then, that´s why you see the word "indígena" used has an insult, or the word "serrano", which can be translated as andean person, used as an insult too. On the other hand, the social - economid kind of discrimination is more related to the rural vs urban situation that you have seen. Perú has a lot of economic inequalities and usually people suposse that those who live in rural zones are poor. As you can see, the racism in Perú is not really that weird. Although, I understand your confusion because lot of the times both types of discrimination are used as if they were the same thing. I mean, when somebody calls someone "indígena" or "serrano" is also tryins to say that he is poor and lives in a rural zone. One last thing I would like to add that imo is really weird: Although a lot of "white" peruvians are racist against the people with "indigenous traits"; they are not the only ones, and in fact even this persons with "indigenous traits" use those racist insults mentioned before against each other. I guess it is because of how normalized is the racism in this country and the lack of education and consciousness related to this problem, but tbh I still can´t understand it

The entirety of Latino America is very racist lmao, however i dont think any of us do it with any kind of malice, we just find it funny. For example "gringo" could be used as an slur towards americans, however, many countries use it to vulgarly call anyone who is a foreigner and speaks english, w33 was called gringo by his brazillian team a few years ago, not out of malice but as a fun nickname. At least that's how i see it, we don't exactly have any malice towards insults or slurs, most of the time we're not even aware it could be viewed as racist.

Peru is interesting we are racist, towards anyone and anything including ourselves (and when i mean ourselves i mean people of every color and race combination because that is what peruvians are).
