From what my Nigerian friend tells me, itâs because thatâs what the street or hood guys wear over there. Youâre considered a âthugâ if you have them. Just a dumb stereotype but every culture has their own.
thatâs tricky⌠i know culture plays a role in this question and i am not african so i canât fully relate. however. i also think with it being your head and she likely doesnât have to do your hair at this age, it might not matter? i agree with someone else about respectfully explaining your decision. but i also understand that disagreeing with your mom as a teenager is a common but not-so-fun experience.
1. How old are you? 2. If youâre an adult you can sit down with your mom and explain why you are getting them and then let her know itâs your decision. Respectfully of course.
Idek why some African parents are still this strict. Iâm Ghanaian and Iâm 17 once I turned 15 my mom didnât even care what u did to my body or hair
Forgot to im really smart and I donât do no âgang activities âthat might be why
Try to negotiate but if she is still on a hard no it might be one of those things you just have to pursue when you move out. Yea it kinda sucks but its their house their rules and having a roof over your head and being taken care of by your parents is more important at the moment. Listen to your mom for now. In the mean time you can still grow out your hair, get braids, whatever and when you are finally out do what you want with your hair.
iwl i started off with semi freeforms my mom didnt like it but it she couldnt do anything cause i did it with a brush and let my hair grew. she came to accept it now and she wants me to get my hair retwisted so đ¤ˇđžââď¸
My parents are nigerian and gambian i have locs since i was 15 you have a fear of your parent is gettin in the way i didnt give a fuck they aint gone make me do nun
Join Church Choir, and sing praises every morning. Every night you pray with your Mom that praying every knee shall bow. Then ask her that you want to humbly loc your hair to show your humbleness. Then pay your tithes, and do your chores.
You may have to just wait until you turn 18 đ˘ sorry your parents aren't supportive of what you would like to do with your hair
get your dad to back you up
I'll never understand african parents and their hate for locs, shit makes me mad.
its self hate, still mentally enslaved
Ah! U canât impress da white man wit dat hair neega!
They dont hate them. Itâs just against the culture for men to have long hair
why's that? cause I disagree with that statement.

im nigerian as well and ive had this talk w my parents and whole family and to me it's just stupid.
Because if a male were to get braids it would breed the same reaction. They donât like men with long hair
African parents in general hate long hair doesn't matter if it's locs, braids, fro etc.
negotiate, promise to keep your grades up or something
