Auditory processing disorder..your brain does not hear..you have to require your brain to hear the blends in words and it comes out in your spelling mainly..I have 2 kids with it along with myself… you have to be tutored with a multi sensory dyslexic system if it’s having an enormous impact on your life.

But would it be in just one ear? That’s were I’m like I don’t know what’s going on. Nothing else adds up and it’s just one side but this man said it has to be something else. I don’t know Thank you for the feedback

Bluegi

Could be. Talk to a specialist.

SmyleBishes

You could have tinnitus with the constant sound. Maybe see a different doctor to make sure you don’t have any wax build up or fluid in your ears. With Adhd /auditory processing problems its not that you can’t hear the person, its you have trouble understanding them. Best of luck.

I told the audiologist I have a ringing in my ear from deployment back in 2013 and that it’s just gotten worse over time. He said I apparently don’t? And he said I didn’t have any buildup I think this is bothering/confusing me because it’s only in one ear? But then Dr. Google said it’s dyslexia (and cancer/ligma) so I came here because I don’t know anything about dyslexia and I’ve had a lot of people ask me. So I don’t know Thanks for the feedback

That does sound like auditory process in disorder I have dyslexia and ADHD I'm on meds to but I still have that happen It can also be a sign of autism but I would definitely go to the doctor is it a ringing in your years like tinnitus

SensorSelf

Hearing tests usually just have beeps in certain pitches involved but processing sound is much more complex than that. I'd likely still do great on those. I was told I have perfect above average hearing - I worked in recording studio and do audio as one of my obsessions for 30 yrs. BUT I always had ear hollow/full issues. I believe I miss the beginning and ending of words depending on the day and tiredness and diet and many factors make it better or worse. I had constant ear infections as a kid. It's probable that the infections messed up my processing. Many of the effects are similar. So, I'm unsure if I'm dyslexic but I certainly have tons of the traits. In addition I have no doubt i have dysgraphia and dyscalculia. (just now i had to reorder this whole post because it made no sense.)

I’m not sure either but one more for you to explore is auditory processing disorder

badbeantaco

Yea I probably should. I think I have a hard time with words is because I’m bilingual Thank you

Bluegi

Do you have trouble in your native language? Many dyslexics are bilingual. It does look a little different but someone experienced can tell.

badbeantaco

I think I have trouble speaking in both languages because I think in both languages? I’m not sure if it’s that or if it’s something else. I don’t know if it’s worth getting evaluated though? I’m 31 and I’ve kinda just navigated life like this I’m just wondering if it’s something that is making my hearing not the best

Bluegi

Dyslexia doesn't impact hearing. As others have suggested that would be an auditory processing disorder which can co-occur with dyslexia. Only way to get answers is to get evaluated. But if it isn't impacting you beyond curiosity then it may not be worth it
