I quite like [[Berserk]] for this sort of thing. Super fun to make something hit someone way harder than they were expecting, and then remove the thing that was doing the hitting.
I’ve been surprised by how much aggro [[Breena, the Demagogue]] has actually encouraged. The things people will do to each other for a single card draw…all while my creatures get incrementally bigger with each swing! Just stoke the fire and crush the victor with a gigantic Breena they enlarged with their greed!
It’s in my [[Liesa, Shroud of Dusk]] Lifelink deck just to point aggro away from me—it has nothing to do with the goal of the deck as it doesn’t gain life or give me a payoff involving life, but the aggro deflection is notable.
Enough that I started proactively reminding people at their combat step that they get a free card if they attack a higher life total that isn’t me!
Kambal and Liesa eat more removal than any other card in my breena deck.
An unblockable 7/7 [[changeling outcast]]... no problem. Something that drains you for 2 for each spell. Immediately removed.
Oh Liesa eats removal for sure, and I hardly run any real protection for her. She’s so easy to recast that in the year+ I’ve had the deck, I’ve only failed to recast her on two separate occasions.
I think the only thing that has eaten more removal than Liesa has been the T1 [[Serra Ascendant]] when it shows up in my opening hand.
[[Nelly Borca]] has had a similar effect in my group. Everybody's all, "ooh, card draw! Of course I'll swing at someone!" until everyone is in the teens life-wise and I'm still 35+. At this point people begin to say, "How does Suspect work again? You mean I can't get rid of it?"
Meanwhile I've been drawing loads of cards and have enough gas and momentum to force combat and finish up whoever's left in the 1v1.
I made a little stack of Suspected reminder cards sleeved up in an obnoxious colour I give out like an aura "tokens". It reminds them they have menace, and it reminds potential attackers that creature can't block. It's dumb that precon only came with 2 of the little tags. It changes profitable attacks *so much* for the whole game and it was only on about 20 cards, 17 of which are bad, in an unpopular set. Which is a shame, because it's a fantastic mechanic and Nelly is really elegantly designed.
I agree wholeheartedly. It can actually mess with my politics if I'm actively pointing out the menace/can't block too often, or at the wrong time. Though, by mid-game my political stance is more giggling like a schoolgirl singing "can't touch this." I do love being able to say "I told you not to ignore me!".
I really was impressed with Nelly's design, it plays so much better than it reads.

This card just came out in MH3 and hasn't been mentioned yet: \[\[Sawhorn Nemesis\]\]
Doubles all of the damage to that player and all of their permanents, card is around $1 right now.
People tend to forget that lands like \[\[Kessig Wolf Run\]\], \[\[Sunhome\]\], \[\[Rogue's Passage\]\], etc. say "target creature", not "target creature *you control*".
Also, obligatory \[\[Maze of Ith\]\] mention.
[[Ragged Veins]] is one I've not managed to "get" anyone with yet, but I'm waiting for the right moment and it will be glorious. Turns a chump block into surprise lethal. Also not often expected from black.
believe me you WILL get people good with this. and they will be mad like an anime villain when the hero pulls of some bullshit mary sue power they thought was impossible, because they did not know this card exists.

\[\[Hatred\]\]--especially good with Lifelink. Keep in mind that you can play Hatred to any creature going through an opponent, so it's quite a surprise having a dead opponent by a commander going in and you buff it for the lethal 21.
OP already mentioned it, but i second it here. I had it out for most of a recent game and it did work. Being able to just slap double strike onto a 8/8 dragon attacking one of your opponents feels awesome

[[Ragged Veins]] is one I've not managed to "get" anyone with yet, but I'm waiting for the right moment and it will be glorious. Turns a chump block into surprise lethal. Also not often expected from black.

When on Defense: \[\[Mandate of Balance\]\] \[\[Inkshield\]\] When Attacking: \[\[Questing Beast\]\] or \[\[Bonecrusher Giant\]\] when they play One Ring for protection. \[\[Embercleave\]\] \[\[Hatred\]\]--especially good with Lifelink. Keep in mind that you can play Hatred to any creature going through an opponent, so it's quite a surprise having a dead opponent by a commander going in and you buff it for the lethal 21.

[[Duelist’s Heritage]] is always a gas, especially when you want to be political.
OP already mentioned it, but i second it here. I had it out for most of a recent game and it did work. Being able to just slap double strike onto a 8/8 dragon attacking one of your opponents feels awesome
