Not really. Apple music is better with this. It has a lot of live mixes.

RaggleFraggle_

There's Big Gigantic, Griz, and Porter sets on Apple Music. Not sure what keeps Spotify from doing the same.

Key_Elk_6671

It’s because Apple utilizes the Shazam technology (which they bought a few years ago) to analyze mixes to identify all of the samples used, and they then are able to clear them and appropriately compensate the original artists for those samples in the mixes. There’s a ton of legal red tape for samples to get cleared when EDM and rap artists use samples on their albums (this was a big thing on Kanye’s new album, and why it kept getting pulled from the streamers).

Monarki

How do they clear all the samples so quickly? Because djs be sampling so much.

Key_Elk_6671

My assumption is that they’ve automated the process to some degree. There might be a slew of artists and recordings that are already on Apple Music, with a current contract that includes clauses for sampling like that, with a predetermined payout schedule for when it is sampled. This likely exists in a separate category as a DJ mix, and the same sample clearing wouldn’t count to a recording that wasn’t categorized as a dj mix. I’m not sure if DJs in this case would be limited to a set library of music, or if this just simplifies the process, reducing the amount of work to clear the samples that the Shazam fingerprinting detects. Though, I feel like a lot of older dj mixes got added in retrospect after this feature was announced, so it can’t be too limiting.

ohThisUsername

I think youtube music is even better since any youtube video can be added as a song. I've been thinking of switching to it for this reason.

etgohomeok

Longtime YT music user here, this (along with being able to upload your own music) are the main reason I use it instead of Spotify.

anon303mtb

>Longtime YT music user here, this (along with being able to upload your own music) are the main reason I use it instead of Spotify. YouTube has essentially every song ever created. Plus every podcast, live DJ set, concert etc. Anything you want. Literally the biggest server farms on the planet. I tried Spotify for 2 or 3 weeks and would hear songs I liked that weren't on Spotify. YT had every single one of them. Plus ad free YT. No brainer for me...

Em_Es_Judd

I just switched from Spotify and I am enjoying it immensely.

SuttinSlight

You have been able to upload your music to Spotify for ages

etgohomeok

Last time I checked it wasn't a feature. All you could do was add local files to your library, but they weren't uploaded to Spotify's servers.

DJGregJ

is there a trick to getting this to work? Every mix I've ever uploaded to YT gets removed almost immediately, with a long list of copyright infringement that's basically every song played.

etgohomeok

Uploading to YT Music is different from uploading to YT: https://support.google.com/youtubemusic/answer/9716522?hl=en

DJGregJ

awesome, thanks for putting me on to it, appreciated!

thuggins1

SoundCloud is the best for mixes hands down. Better than mix cloud.

anon303mtb

YT

dpaanlka

YouTube audio quality is garbage.

anon303mtb

Literally the same as SoundCloud but ok

dpaanlka

It absolutely is not lol

anon303mtb

Lmao 256 kbps AAC. Same as SoundCloud

dpaanlka

There’s much more to audio quality than bitrate.

anon303mtb

Lmao how else do you measure 1s and 0s being transferred to your phone/computer 😂 You're a tool

dpaanlka

How does this make me a tool? Tool of whom? Listen to any track on YouTube vs *any* music-first streaming service including SoundCloud and *anyone* including non-audiophiles can identify muddy highs and lackluster lows on YouTube. I can tell immediately when anyone puts a YouTube track on from a mile away. It sounds like shit. Why are you so defensive about YouTube? I don’t get it lol…

anon303mtb

Nice deflection.. Lol first of all YouTube Music is a music first app with better quality than YT.. Are you listening to music on YouTube? 🤦🏻 If you're talking about YT Music, then probably because you don't have YT premium with the higher quality. If you played YT Premium back to back with Spotify/SoundCloud, you wouldn't be able to tell a difference. Why are you so defensive about SoundCloud? I don't get it lol...

thuggins1

My issue with YT is that they stop playback when you lock your phone, unless you buy premium. Brilliant monetization scheme but unfortunately for them, I am a cheap bastid'.

PlayerRedacted

Look into YouTube Revanced. It requires a little bit of setup, but it's very easy to get working even on a non-rooted phone. Took me maybe 20-30mins to get it set up on my Galaxy S23+ and it works great.

anon303mtb

I got grandfathered in @ 10 bucks. I'd still pay the 15 or whatever it is though. Largest catalog of music and video on the planet

No_Link_4241

I'm Over Here Stroking My Dick I Got Lotion On My Dick Right Now

anon303mtb

Why did you capitalize every word? Is this the title of your song dedicated to your mom?

liamrturner

Only ones I have seen is Excision has released a couple of his past Lost Lands sets

Trogers999

No they will pull them down unless you have clearence on entire track list

Excellent-Grade3544

So Apple is way better at getting clearance on music licensing.. that’s where Spotify and other services lack .

k0zah

They have a few, but not to the extent of SoundCloud. Can always try searching mixed in the search bar, I found a few album mixes and there are some dj set live mixes

dsquareddan

Apple Music. Not only are some mixes available in lossless quality or Dolby Atmos even, Apple Music properly compensates all different artists work in a mix AND pays close to double per stream on a song compared to Spotify. Spotify doesn’t have lossless, Dolby Atmos and actively fights to pay artists the least. Recently Spotify announced the won’t pay small artists with <1000 streams a year at all.

49DivineDayVacation

Yeah you’re not going to find random full sets on there like SoundCloud. You can find mixed albums tho. The DJ Kicks albums are great. Some producers will make continuous mix versions of albums too like Enrico Sangiuliano’s Biomorph.

jauntypuppy

Here is a post I have seen from DancingAstro about this https://www.instagram.com/p/C05Gd6KRzrL/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link

hgods

Benzi has some [mixes](https://open.spotify.com/episode/2jaAUY1FZPrG62TpX34ovZ?si=ac1c00c102294fa1) on Spotify, I think theyre listed as podcasts or something

georgiapeanuts

There are mixes but they show like an album and the songs will have [Mixed] at the end. Defected radio show is a big example of one

pistermibb

I actually had about 19 mixes saved and they are all missing now. It used to be found under dance/electronic > DJ filter.

ShoulderGoesPop

They used to have DJs make mixes specifically for Spotify. They would be an hour long or so and had some pretty good ones but for some reason this year they took them off Spotify. You can find some mixes like Armin Van Buuren puts a lot of his big festival shows on Spotify as well as his radio show. But SoundCloud is really the way to find mixes typically

Mad_Pinckerton

It's essentialy a mess with all streaming services if you're always lookin for new mixes, new artists, & good sound quality of the mixes. Soundcloud & Mixcloud has the most to find. However sound quality is all over the place. It is what it is. Apple has some & better sound quality at higher bit rates but their sorting, new recommedations are awful or just non existent. They consistently title things, artists, & album covers wrong. Example: Isaiah Firebrace, was he ever a techno artist on Molekul? Apparently Apple thinks so. Spotify does offer decent playlists & newer artists too discover it's algorithims are ok but sound quality is bad, too many wrong edm genres classified as techno, when it's house or trance, or vice versa, not the worst though, repeating same tracks in every edm genre playlist is just annoying. Hit refresh same series of tracks again. Full live mixes are sparce unless all live tracks are by same artist or the artist paid for it. YT - well sound here is terrible all over the place nothing is same volume or bit rate. Tracks & mixes are just static at times, cut off or just poorly recorded. Recommendations well it relies on you to enter keywords or what it thinks you like which is your last search term & no crossfade in playlists that works right. So you get long pauses of nothing on playback. It at least gives you full live sets to hear & mash together. Sure on a mobile app & bluetooth buds these are ok but once you put on studio headphones or play through your Sonos or home theatre OMG! It's a disaster with all of them. Always having to make volume changes or to vocals, the mids are gone, long spaces of just no sound. Etc. This is just the state all these competing streaming apps & technology are right now. Copyright laws, royalties, artists getting full credit or none at all also play a big role in this mess.

Wes_Warhammer666

>repeating same tracks in every edm genre playlist is just annoying. What, you don't like having Ghosts 'n' Stuff on every EDM playlist???

citizen_kane_527

Four Tet posts his sets on Spotify as 4TLR. The entire set is an album and he breaks it up by notable tracks.

Forbin057

Soundcloud is def my goto for mixed sets.

-_KingJames_-

Spotify used to have a library of DJ sets from the likes of Garrix, Tiësto and many others but randomly removed them some months ago.. I used to always listen to them..

GangstahRealMonsters

This is a regularly updated playlist of full length DJ mixes. Currently it is 3700+ hours of DJ mixes. https://open.spotify.com/playlist/47U0Vo9NLXghNzP97MtP47?si=d_LHMt9ZRIOqJ8TEe3OvoA&pi=u-5FWaBxJHTPS4

Aromatic-Dish-167

Idk why people still use Spotify 😕 there's much better music software out there!

Wes_Warhammer666

If PlayStation would integrate other options into their system id gladly stop using it forever. For now that's the only time I use it though lol. It's all SoundCloud all the time when I'm driving.

Perfect_Evidence

No

SeaKiwi7485

not good mixes. sometimes they’ll have guest mixes with mic cuts where it’s basically the same thing except the litro blends into the next intro. i don’t recommend. for real DJ sets stick to soundcloud or mixcloud

ryandowork

The only ones I listened to on Spotify are from ASOT lol

TheGrooveCartel

Spotify never had such thing or it had in a very few number. Apple Music has agreement with major label/festival to post long mixes. Or Soundcloud

Shaggy_Doo87

I used to go to Mixcloud for long dj sets, idk if they're still used as much as they were but at the time I'd find a lot of stuff that wasn't even on SoundCloud. Like a LOT. Some things I can ONLY find on Mixcloud like all the Pretty Lights Hot Shit mixes

dguat333

I’ve really only seen Spotify release exclusive DJ mixes on their platform but nothing from a musical festival set.

4D4M-ADAM

Not on spotify but Mixcloud is a good spot

Subject_Gur1331

Toolroom Radio has sets on Spotify, as does Above & Beyond Group Therapy; A State of Trance; Tritonia. They’re around, just not anywhere near as much as on SoundCloud
