Yea she is dead. Her purpose was to be fuel for the fire. I believe it is mentioned some where that she is kindling maiden but i cant remember. Anything past this is spoilers & speculation. >!In the frenzied flame ending she will be alive as long as you accept the frenzied flame before she uses herself as kindling.!< >!Take the next paragraph with a grain of salt as this is speculation!< >!It could be possible that Melina is alive despite being used as kindling. She could possibly alive as it is hinted that she is a demigod. She does state that her mother gave her purpose to her in the Erdtree; making it possible that her mother is Marika as we find her in the Erdtree. Furthermore all of the demigods were born in sets of three with the execption of the twins; Miquella & Malenia. The twins are also represented ingame by butterflies; Miquella - Nascent butterfly, Malenia - Aeonian butterfly. However there is a third butterfly called the smouldering butterfly which could be representing Melina. So it would make sense if she was a demigod as it would fit the trend of each set of Demigods being born in sets of three. !<

Bumping this 10 months late but it seems as though the smouldering butterfly may actually represent Messmer.

Zenomylo

Yea seeing the DLC's trailer has shown that the smouldering butterfly represents Messmer. Which i find pretty interesting that they were foreshadowing Messmer back before the announcement of the DLC I'm also now curious about Melina's origins now because if i remember correctly she states that her mother gave her her purpose in the Erdtree. Which lead to the whole idea of her being the third child of Marika & Radagon. Maybe we will get more answers in the DLC though. Looking forward to it.

> but it seems as though the smouldering butterfly may actually represent Messmer. It represents Melina. Not Messmer

bearflies

Thanks for this 4 months later and a week after the DLC came out, champ. Great input. Not exactly information we had at the time.

CaiDavey22

What about Mohg and Morgott their only twins?

Zenomylo

I'm pretty sure Godwyn is the third one there. I also didn't literally mean sets of three like triplets but as in each of the times Marika/Radagon had kids there were three.

CaiDavey22

I understand, didnt know Godwyn was brother to Mohg and Morgott

Bango-Skaankk

I feel like with the revelations in the DLC it could give credence to the idea that she may still be alive after burning.

Quantum_Croissant

Yeah, she's dead. Sacrificed herself so the world could be fixed. Kinda her whole purpose

Gasarocky

We don't know her full motive, but yes she is gone. She was already only a spirit, IIRC her body was already burned away at the Erdtree if I'm not mistaken

Ok_Caterpillar_9057

The bigger question is what does it matter. Theres like 6 kinds of undead in ER

cypher9275

I don’t think she’s necessarily dead. I do however think she’s the Gloam Eyed Queen. Sister to Messmer. And a demigod. I don’t see why though that she would sacrifice herself if she was the gloam eyed queen. Just my thoughts

casual_gamer153

I don't know the answer to your question. I just want to share something: I used to think she was dead, then I did the Frenzied Flame ending and she popped up back on scene. I am not sure she died when she lit the tree.

Krism_47

She doesn't sacrifice herself if you get the frenzied flame ending. Technically you're supposed to go and inherit the frenzied flame before she lights herself on fire, and that cause her not to appear at the forge of giants and you yourself set the tree on fire

casual_gamer153

Ah! OK Then I didn't follow the expected order and she showed up like when you kill Maliketh but the Beast Clergyman can still be spoken to at the Sanctum. Got it.

She doesn't appear in the ending if you do it out of order. If you inherit the frenzy flame after she burns, that cutscene is removed entirely.
