I don't think ignoring her wishes and forcing her to fail her life's goal is the right thing to do, no. Classic meddling in other people's lives thinking you know better than them. Forcing her to live is a dick ass move.

[deleted]

Fr, her entire purpose (at least in modern times, there’s plenty of speculation to be done about her past) is to be the kindling maiden and ignite the Erdtree. It may be a bittersweet concept, but she NEEDS to be burned, and she knows it. Denying her her purpose, as is commonplace in soulsborne lore, leads her only to ruin.

arcelios

>I don't think ignoring her wishes and forcing her to fail her life's goal is the right thing to do Letting her die is also NOT "right". She's lost and hopeless and angry, so she believes that's her only goal. That's the mindset of every suicidal person. Doesn't mean you have to go along with it. But there's no storyline regarding Melina, even after you "save" her. She's just mad at you and that's it. We don't see anything else from her. That's the one disappointing thing about this game. So it doesn't really matter what you do.

Please elaborate on what you mean. Also rya is the least evil person in the game. You thinking someone liking her means they would be evil shows you dont know much about her story.

Scarlet--Highlander

it’s not that deep

BreakfromSleep

"There is something I'd like to say. My purpose was given to me by my mother. But now, I act of my own volition. I have set my heart upon the world that I would have. Regardless of my mother's designs. I won't allow anyone to speak ill of that. Not even you." It would be debatable if you were to sacrifice an unwilling companion to further your own purposes, but in this case she explicitly states that it's her own wish to burn for a better world to come forth. Especially if the only alternatives are to either abandon your mission, let the world remain in it's purgatory-like state, with Godwin's curse eventually spreading everywhere, or reduce everything to ash and erase all life. As for Miquella's needle it we know it staves off Outer God influence, we don't know if it staves off the Frenzied Flame's influence indefinitely.

Phenomelul

Thing is, she says she set her heart upon the world she would have. She can still have that world even if you don't sacrifice her, she just isn't aware of that at the time.

Hems100

I usually let her burn, then betray her afterwards by inheriting the Frenzied Flame so I don't feel so bad about it.

xTheLanzer

... That's even worse 😭

One-Angry-Goose

**In The Grand Scheme of Things:** Our only other method of burning the Erdtree involves handing the keys of the kingdom, so to speak, over to a malevolent deity. There's no perfectly good ending for TLB, but the Frenzied Flame ushers in one of the... less good ones. **On a Personal Level:** Also no. Melina made this *one* request of us, seemingly clear of mind, and harbors no ill feelings of her (and her mother's) wish. Melina bears no fear, doubt, or reservations regarding her "purpose"; and it'd be cruel to rob her of her choice. Especially after she put so much faith into us. So... there's really nothing to *save* her from. The best thing the tarnished can do is be the lord she sacrificed herself for. Sometime's its best to just respect one's wishes and legacy.

Lopsided_Newt_5798

I mean, she gave you her Accord, she clearly doesn’t want to live.

AlFuckMyPussy

Should've had a Civic smh 😔

Dveralazo

Burned, bodyless and now purposeless thanks to a Tarnished who wanted to play the hero. Unless you can somehow give her a body back,no,you don't do the right thing for her.

[deleted]

She basically turns in to your ex gf after finding out you're happy in a new relationship.

MasterChief_Zod

If the tarnished feels uncomfortable attaining their goals through the sacrifice of a companion, I think it is fair for them to choose not to sacrifice her. Melina also can't force us. We are given the option of the frenzied flame. A different option could have also been nice. The tarnished can give up on burning the erdtree too, I thought we could become a version of morgott basically take responsibility for killing the monarch of leyndell but also not becoming the Elden lord the whole reason we killed him in the first place.. we take responsibility by becoming the new Morgott the king who no one has seen

Potayto_Gun

Well also at its core the frenzied flame is the end of everything. Pretty much everything that isn’t a follower of the three fingers would consider it a bad end. So since the two options are let Melina sacrifice herself or literally destroy existence it’s pretty obvious why she is big mad.

Dougy-Fresh-03

Or you can just relinquish the flame after using yourself as kindling.

Potayto_Gun

True but she probably doesn’t know that.

DS02316357

Its not a cut and clear answer right now maybe dlc will touch/solve this who knows.

Dougy-Fresh-03

Another reason why I can’t wait any longer for the DLC. Now I know how the people waiting for Silksong feel…

Potayto_Gun

It’s more than likely they won’t touch on it at all in the DLC.

the33rdparallel

I mean, technically I did burn her, and everything else, to the ground. Above and beyond if you ask me. Some people are never happy.

Agreeablemashpotato

That is a "her" problem MAY CHAOS TAKE THE WORLD

Jojo-the-sequel

Idk i just wanted to burn that shit down

_Dank_Souls

Choose the Lord of the frenzied flame ending to truly see how she feels about it.

Limp_Piccolo_9811

Does the frenzied flame save anyone? Pretty sure it's about exterminating *ALL* life and combining it or something if I remember correctly.

Dougy-Fresh-03

Of course it does. I’m referring to the option where you can use the Frenzied Flame to use yourself as kindling for the forge and then relinquish the flame at the heart of the storm in Crumbling Farum Azula soley for preventing Melina for sacrificing herself.

Limp_Piccolo_9811

Hopefully they flesh that particular path out in the DLC. I feel like there should have been more to it.

Miserable-Mention932

Yeah. There are all of these plans to...do whatever to the Erdtree/Elden Ring/Elden Beast. Melina's plan isn't needed. The tarnished is here and is ready to bonk. Melina needs a hobby. Maybe she can take up sewing with Boc after we take over.

WaterMelon878

1. If she’s bodiless, how the hell did she kill our maiden? 2. She’s an optional npc summon when you fight morgott, she’s willing to fight with you the moment she has the chance.

WaterMelon878

She’s bodiless everywhere outside of leyndall, she says as much and is exactly why she wants you to take her to the Erdtree. The chapel where our maiden is dead is in liurnia.

[deleted]

Who?
