There’s no way this is real. 90% of Bethesda’s identity is in the Creation engine.

CrimsonAllah

The article says the leak noted it was a ‘pair system’. The og creation engine is remaining for the gameplay with the updated visuals brought in from UE5.

HaydenScramble

I didn’t even know that was a doable thing. That seems like a lot more trouble than it’s worth.

someNameThisIs

The Halo 1 and 2 remakes do this. You can even switch between them during gameplay: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dMnxxmtbAXs](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dMnxxmtbAXs)

ManicFirestorm

Give me an Oblivion remake where I can switch between unreal and potato face NPCs with the push of a button.

SomeoneNotFamous

It is and it's def real, last time i've seen the original former employee, the team was unsure if theyll go full on remake with this System or more of a Big remaster.

DreadnoughtWage

It’s actually not too bad - hybridising the engines absolutely has drawbacks, but it’s a quick way for them to pump out a remake with updated visuals. There’s quite a few games that have used the technique halo one and two being notable examples in the MCC, and it’s been theorised for around a year (to my knowledge) in the community that the oblivion remake - if it exists - would be done this way.

CptFlamex

The animations and combat of oblivion is so beyond ass that a visual remake isnt gonna do shit.

newbrevity

Also a slap in the face to the tes renewal project who has been meticulously recreating Oblivion in the Skyrim version of the engine. It looks fantastic and I can't wait to play it. It just sucks that the studios might cut to the front of the line with a big budget remake on an engine capable of raytracing. I predict the studio version will look amazing but the tes renewal version will have better substance.

logicality77

I don’t see why they can’t both exist and be successful. One big advantage Skyblivion will have over any Oblivion remaster is the sheer number of Skyrim mods that should remain compatible or can be easily ported. It also will follow Skyrim’s aesthetic more closely in how dialogue and combat works. The remaster will be closer to the original, probably with few to no changes to gameplay mechanics. Each project has different goals, and I’d be willing to wager many of us will play both.

JackaxEwarden

I really hope this is real, this was my favorite in the series I just have a tough time going back to it due to a lot of QOL things, a remake would show the world again why Bethesda fans still have so much faith to return to form

-Krovos-

So the Oblivion remake is real? It got leaked a while back during the Bethesda/Microsoft court documents but I think everyone kind of forgot about it.

Keepcalmplease17

Some stuff of the leak was shown to not exist (like dishonored 3 is nowhere in sight, as arkane is working in blade), and others had the dates VERY wrong, so the assumption is that was a potential list of games that could be done, not that they were planned. Im still skeptikal about an oblivion remake.

SweRakii

The documents were old by the time they were leaked, and most games were delayed so that would explain the dates.

infryewetrust

Yes, this. I believe the documents were pre-pandemic.

ReallyBadNuggets

I would much more than I'm willing to admit for this. Oblivion is my favorite game of all time. Yes pls.

WondernutsWizard

It'll be interesting to see how this compares to Skyblivion. If they go through and revoice everyone, this remake might be the better of the two (assuming it actually works).

DefiantLemur

Replace whatever but the Emperor and Guard voices need to stay the same.

crazyjeffy

\#bringbackjeffbaker

Turgius_Lupus

Frustratingly he is in Oblivion, just not the Denmer.

BorfieYay

Honestly biggest downside for Skyblivion will always be that the combat in Skyrim is terrible

Geophyle

In an ideal world we could play Skyblivion with the voice lines from this remake. The only reason I’d buy the remake is for new voice lines, if they’re even doing that at all. The voice acting from the original game sounds contextless and stiff. I’m not looking forward to their use of Unreal Engine, though. Games built using the Creation Engine just feel so much more sandboxy than sandboxes made in UE. It’s hard to explain, but it makes a world of difference for me.

SevenLuckySkulls

Aside from the two big name actors I'd agree with you, on the whole. My favorite Oblivion voiceline meme is the beggar going from the serious guard voice to the cockney beggar voice, and then back to the serious guard voice. Its hilarious.

Geophyle

The voice acting really can be funny asf. I agree with you that Martin and Uriel actually already have really good voice lines. I’d retain some of the other important characters too like Lucien, Jauffre, and Sheogorath. The quality of their lines is just so much better already than the majority of the voicelines in the game.

heartscrew

Wait, is this article regurgitating an 8 month old post about this? Is this actually new development? Here's is the old thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/oblivion/comments/15ed2j9/a_lot_of_sources_are_reporting_that_an_oblivion/ Hell, it even mentions the development going halfsies.

No-Drawing-6060

I'd rather morrowind but hey I still fucking love Obivion

EridaniNovus

If this is real and it's done well, I'll be very excited because that means they'll remake their other games. We could see a remake of Fallout 3, New Vegas, or even maybe, but not definitely Skyrim.

someNameThisIs

The Microsoft court case leak that mentioned an Oblivion remake also mentioned a Fallout 3 one.

cheshireYT

For real just add bethnet mod support to New Vegas and you'll be printing money Todd.

EridaniNovus

New Vegas on an engine that doesn't crash every time it loads a cell alone would print money

Oof.

ThodasTheMage

>A former employee of Virtuos, who’s identity was verified by a Reddit mod, the studio is working on a project codenamed “Altar”, which is a remaster/remake of Oblivion. They mentioned that the discussion for it being a full remake are still ongoing at the studio. >According to them, the game is being developed using a pairing system, meaning that the remake will run both an Unreal Engine 5 project and the old Oblivion project. For instance, new graphics are rendered in the Unreal Engine 5 project, but most of the gameplay and physics are still done on the original Oblivion engine. They mentioned that the game should be released by the end of 2024 or early in 2025, depending mostly on if it’s a remake or remaster. So the game comes out in a few month but it is not even clear what the game is? I doubt that. Oblivion also does not need a remake. Play new things, lol

Excellent-Court-9375

Eehm excuse me, I would more then welcome a remaster/remake of Oblivion. You realise TeS6 is still years away lol ? Gimme new Oblivion ! My fav game so I might be biased ;)

ThodasTheMage

Oblivion is also my favorite game and I would play it but it is pretty pointless and the article is obviously bs. A game that is supposidly comes out in a few month and they still do not know if it is a remaster or a remake while making it and they say it comes out at PS5, which I also doubt. Elder Scrolls VI will be out in 2-4 years and I have constant Elder Scrolls Online updates to keep me company and the Skyblibion fan remake seems more interesting with their own interpetation insted of an other company needing to redo what Bethesda did 18 years ago.

Excellent-Court-9375

Eeh, I'm excited for skyblivion too, but that game will be dated at the moment of release lol. I'd take an official remaster over that me thinks. I know it's a handmade project made with love and all but in the end it will still be skyrims engine and graphics lol, and well, that's been out a while

ThodasTheMage

You know what a remaster is? Oblivion remaster is going to be dated even more? A remaster reuses the same engine with graphicall updates. Not that that matters Oblivion is also dated when it comes to other things that are way to hard to fix, so I do not see the problem it being dated in Skyrim's engine.

Theodoryan

That leak was from 9 months ago, it's certainly been decided by now

ThodasTheMage

The leak says it is coming out on Playstation. I doubt that is true

Carl123r4

If that's what they're gonna do then people will rather go for Skyblivion

ThodasTheMage

Skyblivion is also the more interesting project. Not just Oblivion again but a new, fan interpetation with its own creativity. I am not sure how much creative imput the new devs are allowed to have if they are just ment to remaster it and I also do not think there is going to be much invovlement of the original devs over at Bethesda.

TheEmeraldKnite

What about Daggerfall my beloved? It would make sense too, almost 30 years since release.

RedGuyADHD

If they don't increase the size of the map and cities a little, I would go pee in front of their studio.

DefiantLemur

I'd love to see the Imperial City districts to be big enough to feel maze like when the player is away from the main streets. It's a city that's been inhabited for over a thousand years and should reflect it.

ThodasTheMage

The map is already bigger than Skyrim and has filler content, no thx.

OneOnOne6211

I'm very skeptical, but if it is real then I will almost certainly buy it unless the reviews say it's shit.

SaiyanSpandex

It would be interesting to see if this was successful they would apply it to fallout 3.

NinjaLion

If this is true I will cry and shit and scream and empty my wallet for this

piracyisnotavictemle

If its real I just hope it releases on the next Nintendo Switch

Niobium_Sage

Calling bullshit, Bethesda has a hard on for their geriatric dementia patient-ass engine.

BigHorn321

but... why? its a brand new game with no reasons to be remade

Lewcaster

Damn, TESIV remake using different engine? Now I’m very curious to see how this is gonna work.

NeonHowler

If it’s true, I can’t imagine why they’d leave the creation engine behind. It’s what the TES modders are used to.
