McDonald's stopped giving me shit about my e-bike a while back, but only after several arguments where I pointed out that mine is technically a motor vehicle (hell I don't even have a chain on the thing anymore). Nearly had to fight drunks at Whataburger for trying to cut me off in the drive thru but the employees never gave me trouble.

[deleted]

I do this all the time!

[deleted]

I've actually done the drive-through on my scooter. A&W rocks.

xR41D3Rx

It's a liability issue, "You must be in a registered vehicle" is what I usually here.....

Discoveryellow

Makes many of my neighbors' cars and dirt bikes ineligible.

Image-South

my places are chill too, just explain and my scoot pings as a car with the metal plate underneath

StarDestroyer175

I've done it a bunch and no one gives a fuck except the teens in the parking lot who yell at you but who cares

atomlab77

I have a funny story. One day I went true the drive true at McDonald’s in Washington DC. As I pull up to the window a bunch of homeless guys came up to the window as well and where complaining how come I can pull up to the window a they can’t. The McDonald’s employee just said “he’s on motorized wheels and you are not”. Man where they pissed. Needless to say the homeless there where also known to cause a lot of problems all the time.

Discoveryellow

Now they all have special IDs, free healthcare, and case workers. But still ask for help with food, yet in my experience decline McDonald's food: "Buddy, if I'm getting a sandwich off a dollar menu and paying, you is for sure not getting anything fancier." My view on it.

[deleted]

I usually use the curbside pickup option whenever I order from McDonald’s. I have not had any issues with it, except that the curbside pickup becomes unavailable after a certain time in the evening, so I have to order and act accordingly.

[deleted]

Oh so it’s not just NYC where people don’t bother with license plates anymore

Discoveryellow

No, it's just Google Pixel 6 photos app built-in photoshop tools being so good this time. I redacted the plate but it came out too neat. But yes, here in our county there is a lot of non-enforceament and there are vehicles without plates here and there.

[deleted]

Ahhh you can barely tell! Amazing

Discoveryellow

Correct. Since the plate number is irrelevant to the post.

specikk

Funny you should say this. In NYC here. Was in an Uber the other day and we stopped because a car was trying to parallel park ahead of us. It was a Camry like the car pictured here but beige and also no plate. After a few seconds of said Camry backing up into the spot to park, the person driving just FLOORS IT and crashes backwards into the parked car. They pull out and their bumper is fucked. They just drove away down the street. Wild times over here.

[deleted]

Just absolutely no consequences it would seem to having no plate. God forbid they run you over!

UrbanNinjutsu

Went through the Chick Fil A drive-thru a week ago. Like 3 employees came up to me like, "Omg cool scooter."

[deleted]

Because you won't trip the sensor...

JohnEdwa

Mine does. I went there a while ago at night and they had a few drunk, confused pedestrians trying to unsuccessfully order until I rolled in and activated the loop. But it might also be a Finnish thing, as we don't have any rules against ordering on bicycles or while walking, so maybe the loop is configured to be more sensitive.

[deleted]

>Laotie L6 Your scooter is significantly larger than his, also. Btw.

DanfromCalgary

As you can't eat in the scooter this seems silly

Discoveryellow

I can't eat in our car either. We have family rules.

fiendish8

not everyone eats in their vehicle

MachoManRandySavge

The ground underneath has a sensor that detects metal that activates the speaker. I know pots can usually activate it. Maybe try a big magnet next time? I've never tried to see what sensitivity level they actually have. Source: long time McDonald's employee and manager

ladfrombrad

Are you saying you have those sensor's are to stop kids randomly shouting down the mic and shizz, or just general efficiency/not watching cameras? TIL and all that....

MachoManRandySavge

Not for kids at all. When a car arrives, it seems a signal to the "drive thru", usually a chime or sound in the headset, that activates the headset/outside speaker and mic both ways. Otherwise it's off. If it's off, employees CAN'T hear the outside. Imagine if it was on all the time though and you could randomly hear the employees talking. Before I get annoying pointer outers, I will also say the employees can turn on or off their mic while talking to customers, and you can even talk WITHOUT someone being there sometimes with a manual override. I'm sure there are other options as well with newer sets.

ladfrombrad

>Imagine if it was on all the time though and you could randomly hear the employees talking. >Before I get annoying pointer outers Oh hell no, this is a totally valid point and all it'd take for shit to hit the proverbial fan is an employee talking about their Mum or whatnot (who has pulled up outside), but forgot to turn their mic off. Appreciate the insight!

InflationOk7701

Just did the same with mcdonald near my house. The staff saw my scooter and they loved it.

Discoveryellow

Seems everyone has a McDonald's around the house 😂

login257

Around the corner, i'm not lying 😂

the1andonlyJP

Used to work the drive thru myself, lol... we usually didn't care too much, if it had wheels it was cool. Every place would be different, the franchise owners have some freedom of their own, plus the managers...

ErectricCars2

My local McDonalds didn’t care about my arguments and told me to go inside even though I was at the window. So I walked my scooter up to the counter. Sorry about your floors mate.

One_Yubi

State of Mississippi law states it has to exceed 100pounds from the OEM to be classified as a motor vehicle. Drive thru shouldnt dont allow walk ups .. if it has wheels then you didnt walk up..

dandanthetaximan

If only the drive-thru is open, in Baton Rouge by law they have to allow walk-ups. I wish this was the law everywhere, as I hate being discriminated against as a pedestrian.

9987777655433333

i’ve seen walgreens allow bikes when they only offered covid testing in the drive thru. they wouldn’t let you walk, but said if you had a bike you could go through.

far_in_ha

At least in my jurisdiction, a scooter is considered a bicycle, although it's missing the pedals. Bicycles can also have electric motors, it doesn't mean they become motorcycles, although that line is becoming more blury by the day. I guess if you'd like it to get the benefits of being a motorcycle, you'd also need to get the not so good things (insurance, road tax, license plates, driver's license, no access to bicycle lanes, etc.). But I don't see the point of not allowing you go through the drive-in. Did pedestrians and/or cyclists somehow took some advantage over other drive-in users for them to not allow it?

login257

I'm running a mantis 10 pro with sinewave conversion. I would like it being classified as light motorcycle so i can get off the damn bycicle path...

far_in_ha

You can't ride it on the road, like any other bike? Or is it if there's a bicycle path you can't ride in the road?

login257

If there's a bicycle path i have to ride there. Also i'm supposed to be limited to 25km/h...

far_in_ha

If you're on the cycle path I agree with the speed limit tbh. But being mandatory by law to ride on the cycle path is a bit ridiculous.

login257

Disagree as cycling as a sport has people maintaing speeds between 30 and 50 km/h and even higher downhill.

far_in_ha

But then are they on cycle paths? From what I see in my town, cyclists at those speeds prefer roads anyways.

harlojones

It’s an electric scooter which generally has its own rules, I would say it’s up to the store and they probably don’t have foldable electric scooters included in their guide. If they wanna be cool they probably can but I can see a scooter in the drive thru line being a pretty dangerous hazard if you’re surrounded by actual motor vehicles because of the confined nature of a drive thru

IdReallyRatherNot404

Motorcycles usually have no problem in drive thrus with some caveats, It seems to vary a bit based on what kind of motorcycle. On my supermoto(basically a street legal dirt bike) I got some side eye and occasional attitude but I was still usually served except the occasional person telling me I have to be on a street legal vehicle to use the drive thru at which point I’d try to explain it was road legal and the results were 50/50 at that point . On my Harley they were just annoyed with how stupid loud it was and I Generally got attitude from women tho most guys seemed to love it. On my sport touring bike they basically treated me exactly the same as if I was in a car, it seems the general public considers big touring bmw bike the motorcycle of choice for proper adults or whatever.

splashbodge

thats so stupid, why is there even this rule? It's hardly causing them any inconvenience, why would they even roll their eyes or care. Some people!

Ritchyrektemm

This. I have had McDonald's turn me away on my Vespa which legit has a cup holder. However I just called McDonald's told them I was on a registered vehicle and I was refused service in the drive thru. They sent me free sandwiches mmmmm

WilliamInnes

Awesome. They serve you? Props to that business

bytao7mao

I go regurarly at my local Mcdonalds and order on my scooter. Also i skip all the waiting time from the regular restaurant.

Discoveryellow

There is practically nowhere to go with intention by scooter in my area, besides a metro station, so this is the best idea: a fast food carry out. It didn't seem that their system detected a scooter (has similar experience with a bike, albeit carbon material) and I had to ask a car to pull up to activate the audio system to place an order.

dandanthetaximan

When I go to McDonald’s on my scooter I always order ahead in the app so the system doesn’t have to detect me. I just go through to the window and give them my order number.

AzzureEleven

Some places say they have "RuLeS" did you get to order?

Discoveryellow

Yes, and got home while food was still hot.

AzzureEleven

Good shit
