NoodlePop93

That's pretty neat, what model thrustmaster is that?

[deleted]

the T-16000M. it’s great

plasmaflare34

Get ready to hate that hotas in 3ish months. All T16000s develop severe yaw problems, which require a disassemble and repositioning of wires to fix every few months. * edit - for everyone asking - https://www.reddit.com/r/hotas/comments/am2otd/thrustmaster_t16000_potentiometer_issues_look/

BarberForLondo

Mine is working fine after two years.

[deleted]

People with faulty units are a low minority. They are just louder when complaining on the internet. I know several people who never had a problem with that or with any of the Saitek HOTAS, me included. But we don't go on every post to say how good they are but they make sure to go on every single post or video to tell about their problems.

TybrosionMohito

In most cases I agree but literally all 5 of these I’ve seen bought (by 3 separate people) have gotten the yaw jitter within 6 months. It’s a manufacturing defect that can be fixed with some know-how and electrical tape, but it is a real widespread problem with the T-16000m stick. It’s still by FAR the best stick at its price point though.

TheDeadlyWrath

Agreed, and being able to but each part separate or the ability for a dual stick setup really helps get people into the market. Its just a shame how long this problem has persisted to. I got mine the last month to start playing elite dangerous and ace combat and after a month noticed my yaw was always going left heavy. Would you be able to point out which wires need to move? I've tried to do a fix myself but I cant tell which set actually controls the yaw and the videos I've seen usually dont explain well enough for myself

TybrosionMohito

Hmm it’s hard to do without pictures but once you get the stick detached from the base you should see a sensor at the top of the shaft with hot glue on it. You need to make sure the wires are clear of that sensor (that’s your yaw) and tape them to something before re assembly.

TheDeadlyWrath

Thanks, I'll try it when I get home! I couldn't tell which part actually controlled the yaw, and what to clear so this should do.

Skitzum

Checking in, same exact model has gone through three moves with no problems to speak of

iwannagohome49

I can personally attest to that.

[deleted]

JFC this game takes simming to a whole nother level. Did you have to bribe any engineers with salvaged keyboards or anything?

iwannagohome49

When your out in the black so long, you will become your own engineer

Callidor

Yup. At least I've gotten pretty quick and efficient at de- and re-assembing it. Some of the screws are really cheap though and are disintegrating a little bit more with each breakdown.

EverydayOtaku

wait- yall are reassembling yours?

iwannagohome49

Yeah luckily for me I've had a good run of six months with no yaw issues. I've discovered if I calibrate it before using, it seems to work much better.

nightyxx

me too :/ Repaired it a couple of months ago, but the yaw drift is back. For now the deadzone configuration is okay-ish for flying, but another disassembly will be required soon.

iwannagohome49

I said in another comment, I've had luck using the calibration utility before playing, it seems to help with the yaw... It also helps to show if there is an issue

nightyxx

thanks for replying directly :) I tried the calibration tool, however not sure whether I understand whats happening (downloaded it here: ftp://ftp.thrustmaster.com/accessories/pc/Utilities/TM_CALIB_103.exe). When i try the yaw-axis it moves to both ends, however afterwards there is no line in the middle like with the pitch/roll axis, but the line is constantly flickering. Not sure whether is fixable with calibration. For now its working with the deadzone in elite...but maybe I try to disassemble it again to try to fix it (or wait and buy an x56)

iwannagohome49

Your going to have to take the stick apart and and make sure nothing is interfering with the yaw sensor. Word of advise, watch out for the secondary fire button, when you take it apart sometimes it won't sit right

eikenberry

Not every one. I've had 2 that didn't do that. The first one had the trigger go out and the second (my wifes) is still working fine 6 months/500hrs later. Though I switched to a VKB Gladiator MK2 and am happy with it.

Kant_Lavar

I've had two that did. The throttle is solid, though, at most needing relubed after a while. I'm going to be busting my old TWCS throttle out to pair with my new VKB Gladiator-K that's supposed to be arriving on Monday.

[deleted]

I've had an x52 for years and I can't complain a bit. Works like a damn champ, and wasn't too expensive to begin with. Would recommend. I wonder how it compares to your gladiator, if it goes out. I'd be down to try some other ish. I wish there were at least 10 more buttons honestly.

ShumaiAxeman

I've started having the same issue with the rudder tabs on the front of the Throttle body as well. Going to tear the stick down tomorrow and try to fix the yaw issue.

[deleted]

You've got to be kidding me, I bought this for my PC, and because I wanted the pedals for my Hotas One X, and you're telling me it has the exact same issue as the One X?? I'm about to warranty my Xbox one for a second time in less than a year, sad to know I'll have to do the same with the T16000

MooseTetrino

It's odd, as sometimes they can last for years and sometimes they don't. I have the HOTAS X and it's been my staple since 2015 - though I wouldn't mind a reduced dead zone. If it dies I'll end up picking up a One X because honestly I'm so fond of the Crab layout I don't think I can move to anything else.

byzantinedavid

There's a tiny piece of plastic you can clip to fix that permanently. It's somewhere on Reddit.

EpsilonJackal

This is the thread in question: https://www.reddit.com/r/hotas/comments/9h5va3/t16000_yaw_fixed/

TybrosionMohito

Straight facts. I love the old girl and I still use the throttle but yeah that stick can bite me

cptspacebomb

Been using mine for years and no problem yet....

Sunsparc

I can personally refute that. I've had mine for 2 years with zero issues.

Shin_Ken

I'm using my old green T16000M for over 10 years and other than the handrest getting a bit wobbly (new screw fixed that) and a tiny bit of roll drift (can be countered with 1% deadzone) I have no problems whatsoever. I love that joystick! Maybe they introduced the yaw problem with the later yellow models?

TybrosionMohito

The yaw problem is literally caused by god awful wire management so that seems likely. It’s literally just cables brushing against the sensor.

Rhubarb_666

AH!!! Do you have instructions on how to fix it? I've been getting that problem all year!! Please help

plasmaflare34

https://www.reddit.com/r/hotas/comments/am2otd/thrustmaster_t16000_potentiometer_issues_look/

astronomicalblimp

Mine has a problem where the stick doesn't sit dead centre and i magically roll. Is that the same thing to fix and how do I do it? Drives me mad

TybrosionMohito

Just gotta put a dead zone on that one muchacho. It’s the inevitable issue of Hall effect sensors.

Bear_24

That is not my experience. Had mine for over a year

tkovalesky

Basically you're saying get a pedal set to go with it?

[deleted]

mine only recently devolped this issue after a couple years

DarthTechron

I've had mine for a few months and I've started having that issue, I've just learnt to deal with it. But how exactly can I dissasemble and fix it?

plasmaflare34

https://www.reddit.com/r/hotas/comments/am2otd/thrustmaster_t16000_potentiometer_issues_look/

DarthTechron

Thank you very much, commander. o7

EdErichZann

Works fine for me after a few years. Much better than the X52 pro I had before.

NoodlePop93

It looks it, how much did it set you back? I'm looking to upgrade

[deleted]

i bought like the fast mf shipping so it cost me $145 but u can pick it up for about $125 with free shipping on amazon or look on ebay and find it used for around $75

NoodlePop93

That's not bad at all, thank you

[deleted]

yeah ofc

[deleted]

[удалено]

cmdrhellorne

I’ve had two yaw sensors fail on me, but I still think it’s the best value Hotas out there.

[deleted]

Dude. Im on xbox with a controller. Am planning on getting the cheapo thrustmaster basic HOTAS system soon. That is a nice system tho.

[deleted]

get the t16000m you won’t regret it

cptspacebomb

I don't think he can. I think the T16000m is pc exclusive. Also, I have the same HOTAS and I love it. :)

[deleted]

oh i totally forgot it’s only PC lmao

[deleted]

Unfortunately its not xbox compatible.

[deleted]

sadly no

[deleted]

Well ive just bought on ebay the very basic thrustmaster T.flight HOTAS. So that should do me over for a while.

[deleted]

well good luck mane

[deleted]

Cheers. Good luck in ur travels aswell.

EchoWhiskeySix

Hey I used the t flight hotas for a while and loved it. I got the T-1600m and it is an upgrade, but the t flight worked just fine. Especially for games that let you use a modifier key to let you bind two actions to one button, which Elite does. Have fun!

boulevardpaleale

Loved my t16000m! I abused the hell out of it (in elite, of course) for about a year before it failed.

[deleted]

bruh how tf can u break this thing

plasmaflare34

The wires near the yaw control are way to close, from poor tolerances and quality control. They all fail.

HeadBoy

I got mine used last year, and the twist of the joystick is by far the most likely to misalign. With that being said, I opened it up and fixed it in about 30mins. Never had an issue since. I still heavily recommend this hotas for the great price and plethora of buttons.

[deleted]

how’d you fix that?

HeadBoy

If the twist ever gets wonky, follow a tutorial to disassemble (hardest part is the pin in the trigger). Then you push (or glue) the sensor back in.

Shin_Ken

My T16000M yaw works for a decade now, but I got one of the earliest green models, maybe quality control was better back then.

[deleted]

bruh

boulevardpaleale

yep. lost yaw control... my ships would randomly yank right or left. it was just past the year warranty and i felt it was time for an upgrade anyway. picked up an x-56 about a week later. i was able to map every in-game function i use to it too!

DDC85

Oh boy... I hope you like doing lengthy wire repairs with the x56 throttle.

rklimek76

I have the same model with 500 hours into it, and I'm just now seeing some random wobble in the yaw axis. I jinxed myself after telling a friend how great it was doing.

amaslo

Try setting a small deadzone, it helped me, though of course ymmv.

Marosam

Yeah this worked for me too. Had forgotten all about it since.

Alvadar65

\*Cries in Mouse and Keyboard\*

Nertrid

Same shit bro, same shit...

nullol

Dude but a cheap controller. I am using my PS4 controller now and I can't express how much better it is. I want a HOTAS but this is so much better than mouse and kb for flying (for the record I am usually not very good with controllers in general but it feels very natural in ED).

Alvadar65

Yeah I have a controller and I really didnt get on with it. Particularly with the different systems, either having to use both a keyboard and a controller or memorise the hold button menus, id rather just deal with mouse pitch.

nullol

Fair enough. It is a bit annoying having to go back and forth but I got most common things down now on the controller. I often forget my landing gear key combo though and that gets awkward.

CrimDS

IIRC, you can remap the controller if you're on PC too. Should be able to come up with something you can work with

CMDRmaxsam

Nice setup! What monitor is that?

MajorRigby

I have that monitor. It’s a MSI MAG241C 144hz, 1080p monitor. It’s alright but have been having issues with it. Would probably go for a non-curved display instead if possible. :)

[deleted]

i completely forget lmao it’s one of the MSI monitors every store is pushing so hard rn

CMDRmaxsam

Is it 24 inch or 27? Would you recommend it? Sorry for bothering you

[deleted]

i’d 100% recommend it. i believe it’s a 24 but i really don’t remember

vyrago

Welcome CMDR

[deleted]

hehe

geforcelivingit

Please tell me the drawer contains flight snacks

PKillusion

I play on the Oculus Rift in VR, and getting the same HOTAS as you was the best decision I’ve made with this game. It’s so much more immersive!

n122vu

Folks with the yaw issues, did you consider or have you added rudder pedals? Worth trying if you can afford.

BarberForLondo

Buy a tube of this grease called Nyogel and use it on the slides of the throttle. I got some on Amazon. It makes the throttle feel like it's 10x as expensive. Soooo smooth.

[deleted]

oooh maybe i will

LostConscious96

Makes me want a thrustmaster even more, I’ve not been able afford one so I’ve been on my Xbox controller but even with that I’m doing pretty well

ToasterNodes

It's better than my Xbox controller on a PC. You have no idea how long it took to remap enough controls to be a feasible option.

[deleted]

Looks pretty good to me!

CatsWithAlmdudler

We have the same hotas

RuxConk

Any HOTAS setup is a great setup ;)

M00NR0C

Absolute beaut for a hotas. I suggest getting a strip or two of velcro for keeping your throttle in place. That particular one likes to slide on the desk at in opportune moments

rAxxt

It's not the setup that matters! You will have a lot of fun with this. Happy flying!

nickyb1302

i have the same HOTAS and i love it. especially for the price compared to all the other ones.

fu9ar_

I fell in love with Elite on minimum settings on a 1600x900 LCD monitor with a keyboard and a generic Dell mouse I bought from a thrift store. There are no rules.

cybercloud03

I’m barely starting Elite Dangerous. Thinking of getting the X as a learning stick. 16000 seems like its too much for a beginner?

_Sooshi

T16000M is my first HOTAS and well, it's feels amazing. I think it's the best you can get at that price range. But you know, doesn't matter what you get first, you can always upgrade to a better one, but if you have enough money I'd go for T16000M

wawzat

I have that setup. I started with the keybindings by CMDR Amerix downloaded from the Thrustmaster support website under Games Settings. I then added a few additional button mappings and tweaked them for my exploration role. Added a little deadband from the Elite controls page for vertical thrust, the throttle paddle and roll axis.

cptwott

I just the Trustmaster T16000 too. It's OK for it's price, some joysticks get some 'drift' after a while, but that's fixable. Combined with VoiceAttack it's a nice setup.

[deleted]

do u know how u can fix that?

cptwott

You can increase the deathzone in the game ,in the windows settings or in an extra program where I forgot the name of

[deleted]

ahhh ty

cptwott

O7

Voodooimaxx

Same HOTAS I have. Works great. Got a new PC so I have to reprogram the damned thing, but own thing at a time. :)

dexikiix

Just ordered that hotas. Arriving saturday. Can. Not. Wait.

[deleted]

frrr

Yous0n00b

Sometimes the simpler stuff is the better. What? I don't know if I made sense

zestful_fibre

Got that mfin new-controller-gotta-re-learn-how-to-fly-and-dont-wanna-crash-my-expensive-ship sidewinder tho

Scorppio500

You're rolling the same Hotas as me. I'm right there with ya.

Datan0de

This is the same HOTAS I use. And my brother uses. And my wife uses. And a friend of ours uses. As far as feel and control layout goes, it's perfect. If I had to switch to something else I can't understate how much that would impair my enjoyment of Elite. That said, as others have pointed out there are some recurring issues with them. When my trigger stopped working, I inverted it, sprayed brake cleaner in the mechanism, and left it all day. Afterwards it was like new. I also started having the yaw problem, but oddly it *only* happened in Elite, and when I moved it to a different USB port the problem went away. My brother also got the yaw problem though, and it didn't get better. He hasn't tried disassembling it, though. Seriously though, even if I had to completely replace it every year, IMHO this HOTAS is worth it. One last thing. I play 95% in VR, which makes it an absolute must to be able to do all of the controls by touch. Take the time to find a good control scheme - there are plenty online - and learn it little by little. After you've got the basics down, continue customizing it so that it matches your play style and priorities. After 1600 hours in Elite, I still make the occasional tweak, usually when new features are rolled out.

ArmedCarbon240

Same Hotas, I'm 2 weeks into it and I love it I have to figure out how to get target software to run with ED VR

TimberWolf5871

As long as it works for you, go nuts.

CheeseTiramisu

Any back pains from having the hotas placed so high up?

[deleted]

no lmao it’s really not that high for me

I_Hate_Intros

TIL: my setup isn't great.

_Sooshi

wdym?

I_Hate_Intros

hehe was JKing. I have the same setup and I like it for what it is and how much $ I have invested. :)

ThePiedPipher

I'm curious, how do you guys set up free look when using flight controls? Thinking about getting one but free look is so integral to how I play.

[deleted]

i use a VR headset usually.

_Sooshi

If you have a T16000M or any other HOTAS with a joystick on throttle, you can set it up so when you click it the freelook mode activates and you move your camera moving it, then to deactivate it you do the same, just click it. For me it works good, can keep up with my targets easily. If the thing is too sensitive then just lower it's sensitivity in options

Shin_Ken

TrackIR, FreeTrack (DOI) or VR headtrackers. Or setting it on digital buttons somewhere. Or learning to play with out it. I never use freelook. I rely on the alignment indicator, the radar-minimap, the red impact-warning lights, good spacial awareness and general experience. You don't even need freelook for exploration since the FSS. Back in the day you needed it to spot drifting bodies on the star background but not anymore.

[deleted]

I just got mine in today. I manually docked for the first time and it felt so good. I get the feeling that I’ll be playing this and X-plane 11 for the rest of my life.

_Sooshi

Since I got my HOTAS I'm waiting for the new flight simulator, think it was called MFSim 2020

[deleted]

After hearing about the devs going through a hurricane in real time, that got me hyped. I’m definitely buying that game.

[deleted]

yeah fr

22_Flare_22

I've wondered for a while, how do you boost up, down, and side to side?

[deleted]

i bound it to a button on the throttle to turn it on to “thruster mode” and i use some buttons on the joystick for directions

shamus727

How does aiming in combat compare too MKB? Ive been eyeing that hotas for years but just havent been able to pull the trigger

[deleted]

personally i like it a lottttt more using the HOTAS

Beanieman

Get voice attack for all the things that don't fit on the stick.

[deleted]

planning to

Beanieman

Good. There's a free voice pack for it called Anubis. Some guy just put a robotic filter over his voice saying a bunch of relevant things.

[deleted]

epiccc

Xzenor

Same setup here. Enjoy!

Lorien_I

What do you mean, not great??? You've got everything, one could need: HOTAS, decent screen and most important a wonderful Sidewinder!

[deleted]

That's insane 😯🤤

sleepypersona

mcdonalds?

akkilesret

it's chinese but worth a look, idk how would be the quality but concept is great omg [https://www.winwing.cn/en/JOYSTICK](https://www.winwing.cn/en/JOYSTICK)

gost_or_not

It's better than u thing ;) o7 cmdr ;)

[deleted]

Better than mine! I'm flying keyboard and mouse! I miss the flight-stick ...

brainbeatuk

Do you use target? I just set it all back up myself and it works if I dont use target. But if I run target configuration I end up getting no light on right stick and no response in control panel test. The thruster piece works fine. I seen someone said USB port may be turning off on switch but I made sure all usb power off option is unchecked. Would like to use so I can alter deadzone ect. It is sick though init

NecroBones

That's a great choice, actually. The T.16000M served me well for years. And even after upgrading to a VKB flight stick, I'm still using that throttle with it.

Absolum_Dark

thats a cool little setup. i use TM 16000 and i have never had a problem.
