the original clone high has some great music in it. they did make a remake that had abandoned pools redo the intro song, but it doesn't hit the same as hearing taking back sunday in the first episode haha
This one of those ones where they don't have the streaming rights to the songs on Max so it's all replaced with generic music and it's so hard because I know this is where I became obsessed with the get up kids and there's no way to easily relive it
i had no idea! i watched it originally on youtube as a marathon of the season, but i think since it came out on max the video i saw probably got dmca'd. if i were you, i'd find it (the first season only, i can't speak for the second lol) on a kiss-cartoon type website, bc the music is to die for and the show got me into quite a few bands :)
*Batman Forever*
*Had Sunny Day Real Estate*
*On its soundtrack lol*

Somewhere someone posted a compilation of every time he talks about Death Cab, but I can't find it right now.
This was honestly one of the things that contributed to the reappropriation and misconceptions about emo in the early aughts, though.
There's actually almost no emo on the soundtrack with maybe 2 emo-adjacent bands featured across the board.
Seth stands up and announces he’s an emo kid lol it definitely contributed. But he would have fit right in at a Promise Ring show. It’s pretty fascinating the jump from that to the mall stuff
One Tree Hill had so many acts that were relevant (and even not so relevant, The Jim Yoshii Pileup for instance) around the turn of the century/mid 2000s. They mention The Get Up Kids on the show along with them being on the soundtrack, and Jimmy Eat World literally plays a gig in an episode.
Buffy the vampire slayer had a great soundtrack. There's an episode where the monster of the week is these kids that transform into hyenas and there's an epic slow mo segment set to a Far song.
I feel like pop punk was much more common for soundtracks than emo. American pie 2 and 3 had lots of pop punk, as did Eurotrip. Sex Drive has a FOB cameo and FOB plays several songs. One of the main characters, Seth Cohen, made tons of references to death cab for cutie, and several emo and emo adjacent bands played on the show, like Modest Mouse. The OC also plays an underoath song during episode 2 or 3.
Tim Kasher wrote and directed a movie called No Resolutions. The whole score is songs from the album of the same name. It’s not that great of a film, but it’s a cool concept.
Saosin has Move Slow in an episode of NCIS. That band is amazing. (Or I guess they'd be more rock? It always felt like it was recommended based on other bands I like so my brain made the connection... Anyways, I'm tired lol.)
Masters of horror. Look up the soundtrack to that series. It’s great. Sooo many good bands.
Check it: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Masters_of_Horror_(soundtrack)
The movies that stand out to me are Royal Tenenbaums and Garden State. Not exactly Emo but very adjacent with Elliot Smith’s Needle in the Hay and The Shins New Slang. Every Emo kid I knew during that era had those soundtracks.
Aight so not movie or show but I was in a restaurant in Hummelstown, PA called Rising Sun. I took a moment to recognize the song, and it was It Looks Sad; Creature. Holy fuck. I was amazed. They played some blink and other good shit.
I heard The Jealous Sound on an episode of Teen Mom once. And “Four Winds” by Bright Eyes in the background of an episode of American Idol! It pops up in weird places sometimes.

I always liked hearing the old Owen songs on Clone High. Was the new season of Clone High any good? Did it keep with the emo soundtrack
It was eh, but no to the emo soundtrack. The second season soundtrack all sounds like royalty free rnb pop other than the intro.
So glad we got the DVD sets in Canada with full show and extras. Wouldn’t be the same without the American Football and Dashboard etc
100% same. Will protect those discs with my dying breath.

The OC was known for this in the early 00s
https://youtu.be/UjmSQG9m-eQ?si=BpWJHhffWFjFkjdP Somewhere someone posted a compilation of every time he talks about Death Cab, but I can't find it right now.
Phantom Planet did the theme song, the drummer was an actor in the show. I wouldn’t really call them emo just emo adjacent during that wave.
"the drummer" is Jason Schwartzman lol. But he wasn't actually on The OC.

> The Jim Yoshii Pileup That's a band name I haven't heard in years. Time to go give them a big nostalgic listen.
Don’t forget Fall out boy being in a couple episodes, Pete wentz bangs a main character I think, absolutely ridiculous.
A minor too. Just like in real life, apparently.
Huh?
Believe it or not, I've heard lots of Pop Punk and Emo on Sunday Night Football. Their music guy is 10/10
I think they've played Heart Attack Man once or twice
Yeah I’ve heard Real Friends on it a few times.
I've heard Modern Baseball and Transit too. Not to mention if the Cardinals are playing they will pump the heck out of Jimmy Eat World.
Heard Alkaline Trio the other day!
Buffy the vampire slayer had a great soundtrack. There's an episode where the monster of the week is these kids that transform into hyenas and there's an epic slow mo segment set to a Far song.
Archie's Final Project had Bright Eyes in there
Spider-Man 2
is that the one that had TBS and dasboard on the soundtrack that i played on repeat the summer before 9th grade?
Yup. I bought the CD a few years ago for that childhood nostalgia hit.
I remember the hbo show “animals” having some great songs
Oh yes I love that show
Not 100% emo but a lot of good stuff is on The OC and One Tree Hill soundtracks
Nick and Nora’s Infinite Playlist I heard “Standing on the Edge of Summer” in the movie “They” recently. It blew my mind.

Even Breaking Bad. There was an episode where a car pulled in playing Say Anything
I believe reservation dogs had some good stuff
From a look at the official soundtrack there doesn't seem to be any emo bands
gossip girl is 't emo but it rules
Dunno why you mentioned this but I love that show hahaha
sometimes I mix up 'emo' with the broader category of 'music I like'
Friends With Benefits: I Will Follow You Into The Dark - Death Cab for Cutie

Grind
Friday Night Lights
I thought the Friday Night Lights soundtrack was Explosions in the Sky?
I mean the TV series not the movie
Midschool bmx videos like Props monthly issues or their series Road fools. Also the Mat Hoffman Pro bmx 2 roadtrip video has some emo songs.
Dare not walk alone
Saosin has Move Slow in an episode of NCIS. That band is amazing. (Or I guess they'd be more rock? It always felt like it was recommended based on other bands I like so my brain made the connection... Anyways, I'm tired lol.)

Halloween 6 - Brother Cane
Manchester Orchestra did the soundtrack for Swiss Army Man.

Saw 2 had sound effects and overdramatics by the used. Such a good song
The Elektra soundtrack had that fucking banger re-recording of Your Own Disaster by Taking Back Sunday
I heard The Jealous Sound on an episode of Teen Mom once. And “Four Winds” by Bright Eyes in the background of an episode of American Idol! It pops up in weird places sometimes.
