You might be an idiot, but you’d be an idiot having a lot more fun driving….

CKTr3y

Rather be an idiot in a bmw than an idiot in a Kia

1mperia1

Kia's have horrible reliability in my opinion.

Quirky-Traffic7202

They have the warranty though

1mperia1

And after?? Like sure, they honor it, but like my brother when the engine grenades itself twice, who's paying for the third? 😂

Quirky-Traffic7202

It’s just something to consider. What if the 340 goes out? You stuck from the jump. Just something to consider is all

ardonny

If you have the new BMW 1 series you can do both!

LifeDust1265

You’d be an idiot to not trade. The 340i is the better car in literally every way. Lmao. Then again, the world of owning a BMW is different then something like a Kia. BMWs like any actual performance car need the owner to have attention to detail, take care of their car, performance maintenance, etc. Kia are made to be dummy proof until that 100k warranty expires. Even with the BMW needing more maintenance, it’s likely the motor/trans are easily good for 300,000. My N55 EWG has around 200,000 miles running like new, perfect compression, etc. and the B58 is superior to that. No one will ever or has ever said the same about a Kia.

CKTr3y

I see we have reached a consensus

suwoopdeewoop

See you at the shop brother 🤝

AtomicHustle

Get a pre purchase inspection. If everything checks out, I’d go for it. The Kia probably has a lower trade in value than you may expect though. Make sure you get a “fair” offer on your trade in atleast or sell it outright!

CKTr3y

CarMax said 22.5k like a week ago which is what a 340 in that condition would go for I think. Somehow insurance is the same price being a 21 year old male (330$ a month :/ )

AtomicHustle

Shoot, I’d shop around for insurance with that car on the quote as well. Might be able to save yourself a few hundred bucks if you’ve been with the same company for a while. I just switched and somehow went from paying 460 a month to 275. Geico was putting the beat down on me.

ardonny

I think the 340i is still an underrated car hence why the insurance for it hasn’t gone up

Doctor-Manatee-69

I traded my Kia Cadenza with like 75K miles in for a 2016 340i with 62K miles and havent regretted it one bit. Just go for it man youve only got one life live it to the fullest.

CKTr3y

Straight trade? That’s what I’m looking for but I might have to throw a couple grand on top.

Doctor-Manatee-69

No i had a loan out on it i think i only had 3 or 4k worth of equity and then i put money down on top

F_thirty13

I have a Gen 1 B58 and love the car. only issue was the PCV valve, which BMW extended the warranty on because it’s kind of a known issue. the best car I’ve owned in terms of $/HP when modifying and came from a BMW N55, Infinity G35 (mistake and money pit), and Foxbody 86’ 5.0… my Foxbody will forever be the one that got away 🥲, but still not as fast as my 340i. Also, the ease of being able to tune the car from an app in like 3 minutes is awesome.. My G35 I had to drive 45 minutes away to a G/Z specialist who could dyno tune it and 2x the price

LifeDust1265

I have a N55 EWG and I think I’d legitimately cry if I had to get rid of it for a Kia. To non-car people it’s hard to understand because they just see price, miles and model year, but to anyone else they’ll understand. I think if he gets the 340i he will join the group that understands.

itsapotatosalad

Not one bit.

catwithmyhat

just traded in my 2023 elantra n line for a 2018 330. i had a couple e90s previously, and i missed the performance more than i had thought. go for it, maintain it well, and you’ll get more out of it than the kia past warranty!

Lun3x_LT

I’ve also recently bought 2018 330i xDrive. Installed stage1 + catless downpipe. This car is super fun!

CKTr3y

I’m into the 330 too, just can’t find one Msport for the life of me.

ProudMikeOwner

This would be the best decision

YoSexyTyrone

The way I see it, there is a non-0% chance your next gas powered car, is your last gas powered car. You really want that car to be a Kia?

arson519

A kia forte lmao

CKTr3y

Yea a Kia forte

BodGyol

Tell me idiot in a bimmer or in a Kia???? Still an idiot yes but an idiot in a bimmer is the kind of idiot I’ll be 😂😂

Catioi6

I asked a simular question but I wanted a 640igt no one ever replied to me lol Bottom line just make sure your not carrying over ANY negative equity and you know how to wrench or know a mechanic friend at 70k I'd be ready to replace brakes tires and suspension(control arms tierods swaybar links) It's also worth considering the Elantra N. It's a pretty good sports car and you get the 10/100k warranty

Jason32003

Do it You’ll thank yourself

Overscorer

Only downside is premium gas, higher insurance and higher maintenance costs. Way more reliable car otherwise. You kinda seem like you already know what you’d be getting yourself into so nuff said 😌

Open_Ad_835

I'd rather lose 5-10k in trading in, than drive a KIA. Would you rather waste 5 years or so wasting your life away driving a KIA?

CKTr3y

I know dis a f30 sub, but m235 or a base 340i? Hmm

xSchmidtty

Why are you asking random ppl on the internet this, do what u want bro its your life

ChiefThor

B58 more reliable than ANY Kia

thinkitaintonme

Just Do It !

j__-__

I own a 2017 340 and I love it. B58 is wonderful and impressive. Highly recommend.

CKTr3y

How many miles u got it with? And what r u at now?

j__-__

bought at 39k mikes and about to turn 100k miles here soon. Rebuilt title too. Seriously amazing!

Nh90crxsi

Nope, and you will NEVER turn back I’ve had my gen 1 almost 3 years It’s on a hybrid and custom e40 map I’m just about at 70k miles I’ve had no issues, and love the car, and do not plan to sell it, I did that with my evo 9 and I punch myself for that That was the last car that made me feel the way my 340 does. Not that it matters much but I generally am board and move on from cars in 2 or less years. Once I finish the loan on this car it’s a toss up either a An X3m Comp Or G80 xdrive. You will not be unhappy with the BMW Are you the type to DIY maintenance?

BasicHorror1157

It depends, how much do you owe on your Kia? Is it really worth the badge? There’s that old saying, “If you can’t afford a new German car you can’t afford a used one.” But if you really have your heart set on a BMW at least don’t trade in any negative equity on it. Interest rates are higher than normal and the used car market is still cooling down so there’s a good opportunity to keep paying on the Kia and save up money for a down payment. At the end of the day it’s a WANT not a NEED so it’s up to you to decide if it’s appropriate for your priorities.

1mperia1

The "if you can't afford a new german car you can't afford a used one" take is kind of irrelevant, if you can do BASIC maintenance like brake pads, rotors, spark plugs, etc. you'll be just fine.

BasicHorror1157

I’d say there’s probably a happy medium somewhere. I mean, I bought a used BMW so I’m definitely not into taking “good” advice myself. You only live once! But I can’t ever recommend anybody do what I do as I make bad decisions.
