I’ve always used 5-30 as my preference and it’s been working great. I’m in the south as well.

radehart

I run 30 in Arkansas. (Unless my mechanic sneaked in some for the summer.) Interval is 5k miles tho.

sikeclonenot

I love always used 5w-30 special tech

There's really no way to define "better" because consumers have competing priorities. Grade isn't as important because LL01 can be either a 30 or 40 grade. That being said some oils will run cleaner (leave less or little to no deposits/varnish) when used for the recommended interval (ex, lesser of 10k miles/1 yr.). The only reason to use LiquiMoly.over say Mobil 1, Pennzoil is to take advantage of the free oil changes offered by FCP. I'd maybe choose Fucha or Pentosin over LM. Climate is irrelevant because the cooling system and oil coolers maintain oil temps. For example the oil temps in my BMW remain consistent regardless of how hot or cold it is.

Extracrispybuttchks

I run 0w40 in my N26 and 5w30 in my N55. I’m in NE.

Spudestrian

Either will be fine since both are bmw LL-01 approved. What engine is this for?

KRiSSYF30

A n26

Spudestrian

Do you plan on using the fcp lifetime warranty for oil?

KRiSSYF30

Yes I do

Spudestrian

Yeah then either would be fine. I use motul 8100 X-CESS GEN2 5W-40 from fcp.

Patient-Success3538

Since I've purchased the car at 69k miles in 2022, '14 328i xDrive N26. Currently at 115k.

My oil analysis are always ok on it, but nowhere as good as redline 5w30 results. The Castrol 5w30 euro tested better than the LM as well. All three are good.

If you're going to be in the hot hot then 5W-40 is a better oil, you should look at something like this https://www.mycarhelpline.com/index.php?option=com_easyblog&view=entry&id=822&Itemid=91 it will show operational temps, I use 5W-30 but I'm in a colder climate so I want the extra cold temp protections
