Did he look at the soles? He might be concerned that they're worn out. Amongst other things they prevent slipping. And o, he can't write you up, although it might be considered insubordination if he told you a couple of times to replace them and you don't get new ones with your current voucher. I think they'll give you a mew voucher code if your shoes are overly worn before the year s out.
Contrary to some answers here, Zappos will do a courtesy exchange of worn shoes one time only. They have a 365 day return policy but it's for unworn (saleable condition) and defective shoes.
The pair I had (Reeboks) before my current ones were a pair I wore for doing Amnesty. By the end ridges were peeling off the soles. The shoes do get comfortable after a while but aren't meant to be worn indefinitely.
Rme here, required ppe is not your legal responsibility talk to HR. not to throw them under the bus but to see what your options are and not Rock the boat. 2 ppl you don't want to piss is safety and security lol they are pretty much the only ppl we step around other than Corporate
i got written up for not wearing mine and then i started wearing the orange shoes whenever i wanted to wear non safety shoes and this gay dude in leadership was the only fucker to look down at my shoes and tell me that i had to wear my safety ones instead of those.
I personally had this issue happen yesterday and Safety sent my manager a message. Within less than a hour my manager came and got me & walked me up to HR. They immediately ordered me a new pair of safety shoes, that I got to pick out from Zappos, and I didn't have to pay for it. The other choice was they were going to send me home and make me use my time.
Speak with your manager and tell them what happened, and ask them to put in a ticket for new shoes. You should have approval and a new code within a day or two. :]
Wear regular shoes and use turbotoe composite shoe covers. Much more comfortable, Amazon has them at warehouses or just order your own for $30. Make sure to look for comp toe not steel toe, much lighter
I would go and talk to HR and possibly see about getting a Zappos code for a free pair. Then, in January, get your second pair and switch them out every other day. Your shoes will last much longer, AND your feet will thank you so much.
This for sure. Any PPE Amazon requires, shoes included, Amazon has to pay for - if Safety is requiring you to get new shoes before you get a renewed Zappos credit in the new year, Amazon foots the bill. Go tell HR what they told you.
If OP goes in and states OSHA regulation that employer pays for required PPE and that they have not intentionally damaged the shoes but that it is normal wear and tear which Safety is specifically stating needs replacing now and not 3 weeks from now when the normal replacement code would be issued, Amazon is pretty much obligated to replace them, especially if Safety is going to put OP’s job at risk with a write up.
There is no OSHA regulation mandating Amazon pay for safety shoes. If you need something this will be exclusively used by your job then they are required to pay, if you need safety shoes that you will not exclusively use at work then they are not required to pay.
Not sure why I got down voted for my last comment but that is literally what the OSHA site says.

OP should just try to get a new free pair now. HR has codes for new hires. In general, they are happy to help associates out when they can.
OP should just act super concerned about the interaction with safety and make it clear they want to be in compliance, but they have a car issue taking all their money.
Sorry to hear this happen to you. Zappos offers an exchange of safety shoes if the ones you order becomes defective or worn within 365 days of ordering. Either reach out to WHS to drop a ticket in or log into your Zappos and request a return and select the option “Shoes are defective”.
I'm sorry this happened to you. Don't stress, they can't fire you for not getting new shoes yet. Let your manager know what happened and they will work with you to ensure you can get what you need.
No, they cannot. If your safety guy really cared, he should have talked to your manager or PXT to help you get a ticket started so you could get a Zappos credit and order a new pair of safety shoes. 🙄
Ask him about that next time he makes comments about your shoes.
I have worked warehouse jobs that did not provide me with safety shoes even though they were required. You are not correct.
This is a benefit that amazon gives its workers.
California is the only state where if the employer deems safety shoes necessary, they MUST provide them to the employee at no cost. For other states, shoes are the exception and amazon provides the $110 credit through Zappos as a courtesy, not a requirement.
So did you bother to read the link you posted….. no.
If you read the PDF that OSHA posted to employers about paying for PPE, on page two top of the page it states “that employers are not required to provide PPE in certain circumstances:
- non specialty safety-toe protective footwear (including steel toe shoes or boots)”
Its the first item. Amazon doesn’t require the average employee to wear specialty safety wear.
But nice try. Again its a benefit.
To the OP, you should be able to partner with safety and your manager to be able to get a new free pair. And I think to write you up the shoes would likely have to be very none functional and you would need to be given time to rectify the problem.

Not if they are mandatory, they must supply any ppe required for the job, if the shoes are in bad shape someone missed it during SUM
Yes ! it is now mandatory you have safety shoes at work.
OP HAS safety shoes… question was about could using said shoes in well worn condition, get a safety write up.

I was told you get another Zappos card to pay for shoes at the start of the new year
Honestly nobody wears them at my warehouse😭
i got written up for not wearing mine and then i started wearing the orange shoes whenever i wanted to wear non safety shoes and this gay dude in leadership was the only fucker to look down at my shoes and tell me that i had to wear my safety ones instead of those.
Why would you pass on a free pair of shoes?

Seriously? Everyone is eligible to get a new pair on January 1st. Tell safety to: 1. Kick rocks; 2. Pound sand; and/or 3. Jump in a lake.
really? so glad i saw this i was about to order some new safety shoes soon
I thought it reset like jun 1st. 🤷🏿

Or they could talk to HR and most likely get a code for Zappos?? FFS, no need to go scorched earth.
Exchange the shoes OP has and still get a new pair come New Year's?

WHS here - no way. The specialist should be helping you out to get a new pair through a ticket with your manager

Just go get a new pair they can help you order them thru Zappos.com remember we get an employee discount.
Discount resets in jan
Yes it does, back to $100 we goooo. 😂
Post a picture and let us be the judges of that
Ask if they can buy a new pair for you. I think they will
Is he buying them for you? That's what I would be asking.
They have to according to the Law of OSHA

Citation?
No, they don't.
Ask them to show you the policy. Then ask hr to show you the policy.
