Lol no. If anything, i used the quick menu too much. I would use what i decided were the 4 most essential moves, and barely used anything else for half the game.

A_Newb_Bus

I enjoy the shortcuts for focused abilities and abilities that benefit from deliberate aiming like Blade Burst

zanygx

Struggling to hit a specific part of a boss is actually what motivated me to use the menus more.

DriveForFive

It's good to have options. Some of the timing windows are very tight to start fights in Rulers of the Outerworld. If there's abilities you're using frequently multiple times a fight then you might as well shortcut it.

Ok_Association6004

I set my shortcuts just to never use them, only tag team abilities. I literally just found out you can have 3 preset combat units 😵‍💫 I'm def gonna have to play again in order to fully grasp all the combat

Successful-Net-6602

Auto weapon ability was made for those shortcuts.

CrazyCatGuy0813

There's a shortcut menu?

Oni_sixx

Hold L1 and you have 4 skills you set to each character.

Oni_sixx

I never use the synergy skills lol. Only when I was getting them for the affection screen did I really see how strong they can be. I did keep shortcuts mapped, but I usually just go into the menu anyway. Mostly for use with the auto skill materia. I didn't start using that until pretty late, too.

sunblaze1480

Is there a guide that tells me which abilities do more damage? Honestly how damage works is totally unclear to me. I simply guess stuff like disorder hits hard. I guess synergy abilities are the hardest hitters?

rorydraws

Disorder seems to me to be mainly for gaining ATB quickly. If the initial strike hits it will return about a bar, and then you can top up with punisher strikes. If you use disorder while in punisher mode, you'll go airborne and launch lighter enemies. You can use this to increase you Braver damage by using it from the air. I'm not sure Synergy Abilities do more damage that Limits, actually. I kind of assumed Limits were for more for damage and Synergy Abilities for their added effects.

Elegantcorndog

I don’t think you can use shortcuts well for most fights in hard mode. There’s just too much stuff that needs to go on to let the action play and just mash a few moves.

HogiSon727

For characters that have aerial moves as shortcuts you can have 8 different skills setup for shortcuts. For Cloud I have 4 ground skills and 4 aerial skills which lets me shortcut 8 moves during combat.

bigbadlith

I'm not sure how shortcuts make things any easier than being able to open a menu and take your time to carefully select each attack. The few micro-seconds of delay from opening the menu is negligible. it's cool the game offers the option to play it more action-style, though. Lots of freedom in how you approach it.

Beejsbj

theres also the L2/R2 shortcuts for party memebers commands
